Imperfect Perfection:

The basics of this au is that in the far past, before the kitsune trio was ever made. Before that thought even popped into Alaric's head, even.

Emperor Alaric, the most perfect, powerful being of the kitsune race ever to be born into existence, fell into conflict with the goddess Amaterasu.

No one knows the exact reason for their feud.

Some say it was because the goddess Amaterasu wanted the god unchained the heaven that could pose a threat to her to be subdued.

Others that that instead of subdued, she wanted him to be taught humility and kindness, to which the kitsune god saw no need for and took it as a slight againt him.

Some other people said it were a contest between the two, yet devolved into a feud.

Case in point, now one knew how it started. But they do know that whatever happened between the two, caused a battle said to shake the very ten realms themselves.

Later becoming a full blown war between the gods of heaven and the kitsunes under the emperors rule.

The battle was, quite honestly. Devastating in the extreme, both for the gods and the kitsunes.

Though far more for the latter than the former.

Kitsune's died in high numbers, with even Alaric himself feeling the strain of going up against the sun goddess herself. The first time they battled he lost his left arm.

The second time they battled he lost his eye.

The third, and final, time they battled. He lost most of his power.

The sun goddess knew if they were to fight again it would just keep going on and on, so she came up with a plan to take away most of the kitsune god's power.

The plan worked, with the once divine and perfect being reduced to nothing but a shell of his former self, a far, far weaker shell.

Even with the taking of his power, he was still strong, strong enough to fight gods, but nowhere near that overwhelming power he previously possessed.

Nowhere near enough to fight Amaterasu any longer.

And so, he admitted defeat.

The mental blow of losing his power hit him hard, one of the aspects that of which made him perfect, his power. Gone. His subjects, reduced to so few in number that it would be accurate to say they were near extinction. Gone.

He was no longer perfect, in his eyes at least.

So he locked himself away, denying the sun goddess' attempts to help him adjust to his state.

Him staying in the pocket dimension where time laid still, and enough light to make up for the drastic weakness he faced from his power loss. Was supposed to stay that way forever.

With him staying in self-isolation and occasionally granting any wish within his power that he got from the prayers of what few kitsune they were left.

Until one day, a lone heavenly dragon, one with pure white scales that glimmered a rainbow in the sun. Wandered the ruins of the kitsune capital, and then intruded upon the domain of what was once the elder god of perfection Alaric.

Both of their lives was changed that day.
