what comes after #GenZ? #GenAlpha! the eldest of this tablet toting generation are starting their teenage years and we're officially becoming fossils 😩😖. in order to help them, we gotta know more about them. i found this article interesting and i wonder how #mixedkids that are Gen-Alpha will be like? my niece, Kourtney, just turned 9 and according to #Google she's a tween! we won't start that til next year thank you. she was raised on #BabyEinstein and it shows! This upcoming generation + social media

First post ever! whooptie. this topic honestly has me thinking about the future.

but I just wanted talk about this upcoming generation. and it makes me think of how different the world is going to be in like 5-10 years. I have a nephew, and two cousins who range from the ages 7-10yrs old. The the 7 and 10 year old play together often. and the 9 year old joins them every so often. i think? (i havent observed too much, but this upcoming week i will be) the 9 year old has mild autism so she obviously is not neurotypical.

but ive noticed that unless we are outside doing an activity, the two boys almost just "parallel play". where they have their phone/ipad, and are playing with it and they're just sitting next to each other.

now i have seen them play together before but i think what im comparing it to is that probably from the age of like 4 to like 12, i was definitely playing with friends/cousins all the time. i remember in the philippines, whenever my cousins and i would get together, we were constantly playing. i remember having such big imagination. and not that this generation doesnt, but i think the media is definitely a big part of their creative flow where as mine wasn't really.

my 9 year old cousin, who has autism, spends a lot of time on her laptop. something interesting is that she speaks mostly english but shes lived in the Philippines all her life. that shit really has me thinking alot.

anyways. thats just something that i've been thinking about. i wonder how electronics and social media will change our future. will it be good? will it be bad? and i also think about how will constant access to social media affect young children - how will it affect their brain? will their brain chemistry be different at all from milennials?

dont get me wrong, my two cousins and nephew have learned so much from youtube, they are very smart individuals, but i think about you know - what about the mindless stuff? and also excessive ass screen time. yeah. this topic definitely gets my thoughts going

Generation Alpha

When looking at trend forecasting and trying to predict the future of a brand and how they can stay relevant, it is no use looking at the current market, you need to look forward to the next generation of consumers. In this case, Generation Alpha.  

Generation Alpha is anyone born between 2011-2025, they are the generation which will be born completely immersed by new and developing technologies. By 2025 these children could be being born into a world in which virtual reality and actual real life are completely intertwined. It’s hard to predict what a generation will desire if not even half of them are born yet but here’s what many are predicting. TEDx speaker Mark McCrindle has predicted the next generation will be “the most formally educated generation ever, the most technology supplied generation ever, and globally the wealthiest generation ever. They will comprise the largest generation of middle-class consumers our world has ever seen.” Social media and digital technology will be second nature to this generation and this could lead to them being the loneliest generation not developing communication skills as well as previous generations as they will feel less connected to the real world.

Generation Alpha are generally born from Millennial parents so it is also important to note their behaviours which will be passed on. Millennials were the generation which has embraced mindful living, clean eating and fitness in order to improve their own lives. They are also often seen as a feeling entitled and having high expectations, so this is likely to be how they raise their children some expect Generation Alphas to be even more ‘spoiled’ that previous generations.

So what can we expect, Generation Alpha is likely to be raised in an environment completely out of touch with reality, with new and improving technologies constantly evolving it will eventually be incorporated into every aspect of our lives. By 2025 will anyone even be using cash? Cashless payments such as Apple Pay are constantly becoming more popular and widely seen, in China even many buskers use a QR code to get donations using WeChat or Alipay. Although 95% of the world payments are still using cash, almost half of Chinas payments in 2017 were through apps, so is this where we are heading?

Also with self-checkout being introduced in many stores to increase speed and ease of shopping, our basic human interactions are being reduced further and further down. Now one prediction I would make is that due to becoming completely out of touch with reality we are going to desire human connection and interaction, shopping will become an experience in which we enjoy touching items, browsing the store and talking to the employees who will be more trained to be knowledgeable on products and even help with suggestions and styling. Online retail will still be prominent but show rooms and brick and mortar stores will still be popular to offer the sensory and interacting experience that we will be lacking.

But this is just my thoughts, what do you think the next 15 years will bring?
