Naive. That’s what Sergio was. Yes, he was brilliant — Andrés would always be the first person to build him up — but he was also aware of his brother’s flaws. And, oh, there were so many. He could get into them if there weren’t more pressing matters, trying to relieve the tension in a roll of his head, eyes closed, jaw tight and flexing his hands trying to find a release for it. People made mistakes, it’s true, but not ones on this large of a scale.

She shouldn't be listening to him. She investigated for one reason, and one reason only -- to find him, and bring him to justice. And, sure, one could say that she's lost her chance. That she's been defeated. But he's kept her alive. And he's talking to her. Desperately. This would be the perfect chance to turn it around on him, and use manipulation to get him to release her: only for her to take him hostage.

Yet, she can't bring herself to do it.

Why?

Because, whether she likes it or not, she's fallen for him. And, as much as she wished it to, nothing has changed that. Not finding out that's been the mastermind of it all along. The guy who spoke to her through a distorted voice, then went on a date an hour later. Not the fact that she's standing there with her hands chained up, either.

... and he has, too. He's had so many chances to kill her. To cut that 'loose thread' off, and keep it from ruining his wonderful plan. He hasn't. He's looked her in the eyes, and affirmed his feelings over and over. Even when she was refusing to listen.

All of which culminated in the kiss: the one that said 'I'm on your side'.

❝ I do. ❞ she whispers, breathlessly, their noses brushing against each other's. She must seem like an idiot, willing to risk everything (her career, her whole life) just for one guy. But something tells her that this time will be worth it. ❝ Sergio, I believe you. ❞ She said, meaningfully. ❝ ... so... so do me the same favour when I say that I want to help you. I'm not against you, anymore. ❞ A whole life dedicating her time to a profession, only to come to the conclusion that maybe they're the bad guys. ❝ I want you to win. And I- ❞ she chuckles, weakly. ❝ ... I want to see their faces when you do. Especially Prieto's. Shit, I can picture it already. ❞

Enjolras tended to go quiet when he was worried. It used to happen with Les Amis. Days before a rally he would completely shut down and try to concentrate as anxiety crept up to consume him. It was a feeling Enjolras hadn't experienced for a very long time until suddenly he found himself weeks away from committing a heist he had somehow stumbled into. So much for keeping a low profile.

He looked up at the Professor, giving the man a weak smile. "I'm fine, I promise. Sorry to worry you." He said quietly, hands fiddling anxiously with the sleeves of his jacket. He took a deep breath before shaking his head. "Actually, do you have any cigarettes?"
