au where juvia is in love with lucy instead of gray (working title)

warning for juvia being an unreliable narrator

Juvia listens as Master Ivan drones on and on. The Master always got so worked up when it came to Fairy Tail and while most of her guildmates could avoid listening to his annoying rants it seemed like no one could escape them these days. A lot of his rants focused on the Master of Fairy Tail but now some of them focused on a girl. Lucy Heartfilia, runaway daughter of railway tycoon Jude Heartfilia. Juvia hardly has any interest in the world of business but the heiress of one of the richest men in the world running away to join a mage's guild is the type of gossip that hooks anyone. It sounds like a plot to a romance novel. The rich heiress running away to be with her mage lover. Juvia wonders if that's what Lucy did. Why else would a girl give up a life of luxury if not for love?

"Have I made myself clear?!" Ivan shouts. Juvia nods, then looks around to the rest of the Element Four (and Black Steel Gajeel, of course). Gajeel looks bored out of his mind, which is typical for when he's not fighting or scheming. Sol and Totomaru look as out of it as Juvia feels. They all must've heard this lecture a million times by now. Even Aria, the most diligent member of their group, looks tired of the same message. "Alright, and remember you must not mess this up! If you do..." Master Ivan's threat lingers in the air before he takes his leave. He always says goodbye with an "or else".

A few moments after the Master exits. Sol approaches her. "Hello Miss Juvia. Shall we take our leave?"

Juvia nods. She wasn't really listening to what the Master said but she assumes she's been assigned a mission with Sol. Sol peers at her for a moment before smirking. "Do you even know what we are supposed to be doing, Miss Juvia?"

"Ever perceptive Sol. No, I don't," she admits.

Sol chuckles. "Don't worry, Miss Juvia. Sol will regale to you the Master's mission for us, without all the cursing of Fairy Tail."

"I appreciate it," she replies. This is friendly, she thinks. She's not close to any of her guildmates, besides Gajeel, maybe, but being on a team makes you closer to someone. So this is friendly, Juvia decides.

As the two Phantom Lord members comb the streets of Magnolia for the Heartfilia heiress, Juvia wonders about the girl. Juvia has never met a rich girl before but in all the romance books the rich girl is usually the love rival of the main character. Someone spoiled, mean, and overall terrible for the love interest. Juvia wonders if the girl is like that.

"Miss Juvia, just ahead is Miss Heartfilia. I'm not sure how close any of her guildmates are so make sure to take her as quickly as possible," Sol says. Juvia nods and watches Sol sink into the floor.

Juvia is gloom incarnate. "Drip, drip, drop," she chants, as she nears the girl. Wherever she goes the rain follows. When she lays her eyes on the girl her first thought is, "She belongs in the sun." Her second thought is, "She's pretty," and her third is, "Oh no, she's pretty."

Juvia pauses. She's unsure how to proceed. The girl looks confused, she's probably wondering where the rain came from. Her hand is on the pouch sitting on her waist. "Hello?" she asks, "Have we met?"

When she speaks Juvia feels a rush of emotion. Just looking at this girl sickens her to the core. This girl probably has boy after boy falling at her feet. She probably hates the rain, and never has to worry about spending the night alone. Sol pops out of the ground. "Miss Juvia, you are aware this is Miss Heartfilia, correct?" he asks.

The girl's eyes widened. "You're from Phantom Lord!" she shouts, judging from the way her hand hasn't left the pouch on her waist she already knew that. She reaches into the pouch and Juvia clenches her teeth. She lifts her hand up and casts a spell. "Water lock!"

The girl is encased in a sphere of water and drops a ring of keys onto the floor. Sol chuckles, "You know you're a high price target. I suppose it makes sense that any father would pay a fortune to see their child again." Juvia knows Sol is just saying it to rile her up and it works. The girl glares at him and then her. Juvia wonders if she also made that face at her father. She wants to ask why she ran away, if it really was for a boy. She wants to know how many boys she has in her life, and she wants to know how the sun feels on her skin, but she doesn't ask anything. When the girl passes out from oxygen deprivation she releases the spell and watches as Sol catches her body. "That was easy," he says. Juvia looks away from him and the girl.

The next time Juvia thinks about that girl she's facing down her guildmate. Gray is handsome, he's exactly her type, in fact. Cold, beautiful, and someone who doesn't mind getting wet. She doesn't want to fight him, even if she did there's no point. None of these Fairy Tail wizards will beat the Master or Gajeel. She tries to exit the fight, but then he's taking off his shirt, and she can barely look at him. She thinks it must be fate. What are the odds she meets an ice wizard this forward?

But then he brings up that girl, Lucy. He says he'll protect her with his life. Is this the guy she ran away for? Is this her lover? Just the thought of the two together makes Juvia's blood pressure rise. This is every romance novel she's ever read. That girl is exactly who she thought she was and Juvia has decided she hates her.

Juvia fights Gray and she loses but just as she thinks her life is over and she's going to fall and splatter on the pavement like a raindrop, he saves her. Her charming prince saves her. Nobody's ever reached out to Juvia before and this single act fills her heart with so much joy that the clouds part, and for the first time in her life she looks at the clear sky. The sun is warm on her skin and she looks at the one who saved her. He says something about the sky but Juvia can't hear him over the ringing in her ears. Juvia smiles, this must be what love is. She's never been more overwhelmed, her last thought before passing out is, "I wonder how that girl looks in the sun."

Juvia wakes up alone with the sun in her face. For the first time, Juvia's not upset that she's alone, not when she has the sun. Juvia has a new direction in life and it's facing Gray... and that girl. Or at least that's how it feels to Juvia. Gray is a clearly popular person, always surrounded by his guildmates but it seems like he seeks that girl out in particular. It's like he can't stay away from her. It drives her mad how often the two will just sit and talk like they're on a... date! or something. So now Juvia knows a whole bunch of things she doesn't care about, like that girl's favorite milkshake, her aspirations as a writer, and how the sun shines on her golden hair.

It's even worse when another one of the guys that girl has wrapped around her finger brings her tickets to a water park. That girl is going to be taking Gray to a water park, where she'll be wearing a swimsuit. Her in a swimsuit, just walking around, maybe she'll even wear a bikini. Gray won't be able to resist her, not that it's Gray's fault. She is clearly purposefully tempting him. Juvia can just cry thinking about it, who would be able to resist her?

So Juvia follows them to the water park and it's just as awful as she expected. It's like that girl didn't even want to give Gray a chance. It's not fair that some people are just gorgeous. Everything gets a little better when the hotel is attacked and Juvia has a chance to save Gray. As she has Gray safe in her body all she can think about is how jealous that girl is going to be. Juvia watches her fret over Gray for a second before revealing her scheme. "Are you jealous?" Juvia asks.

"Not really, no," she responds. Juvia frowns as Gray pulls himself from under her. That... is not at all what she expected, and she's really disappointed. Maybe the reason she's not jealous is because she knows how Gray feels for her. She's so arrogant she doesn't even view Juvia as a threat! Yeah, that's definitely what it is, Juvia tells herself.

It's probably petty what she does next but Juvia can't help it. It's nice to mess with that girl because every moment she's annoyed with Juvia is one less moment she's interacting with Gray. Although it definitely doesn't help that she changes clothes right in front of Gray. Juvia thought she was raised as an heiress but she has no decorum it seems.

She needs to remember she didn't just come here to stalk Gray, she came to prove that she can be useful to Fairy Tail as well. It's like whenever she's around that girl she's all Juvia can think about it. Just another annoying thing about her, Juvia supposes.

It's just her luck that she ends up alone with her. To make matters even worse an enemy appears. That girl, Lucy, shouts over the music that Juvia should handle it, which she agrees to. "Water lock," she casts.

"Wow, so cool! That's to be expected of a member of the Element Four!" Lucy compliments. Juvia doesn't respond but she preens inside. It's nice to be acknowledged, even by your rivals. The man, Vidaldus, absorbs her water lock.

Juvia steps back in shock. "Wha- how did you break through Juvia's spell?" Vidaldus explains how his hair can absorb all water. How is it possible for Juvia to face the only opponent who can counter her?

He says something about succubi and then points at Juvia. This can't be happening. Juvia wishes she had been unconscious at least because the pain was unbearable. Juvia could only watch helplessly as her body said and did things she never would. Even though Juvia saw Lucy as a rival she never wanted to beat her like this. It was wrong, it wasn't befitting of a Fairy Tail mage. "Lucy, Lucy," she calls, even though she wasn't sure anyone could hear her. "Juvia is so sorry. Juvia never wants to hurt her friends, although it might be presumptuous to call you my friend. Juvia has really grown to love Fairy Tail! Even when it's raining outside the guild is always so warm and sunny inside. Juvia wanted to join Fairy Tail but now... Juvia thought she could get along with everyone but she always brings sadness." If Juvia was in control of her body she would cry.

Lucy crashes into the floor. "Juvia!" Lucy shouts, "Fairy Tail will always accept someone who sheds tears for their friend! And thanks to you I have an idea!"

When Juvia's body goes to attack Lucy once more she plunges a gate key into her body. "Open Gate of the Water Bearer, Aquarius!"

In a flash of golden light Aquarius appears and floods the room. Juvia gasps, as she gains control over her body once more. "Juvia!" She hears Lucy call.

"Over here!"

"Juvia!" she shouts, and reaches out her hand.

"Lucy!" Juvia shouts back, reaching for her hand as well. Lucy grabs her hand and Juvia feels alive. She feels like the sun is rushing through her veins. Lucy's magic mixes with hers in the most intimate way possible. The two girls shout as they pull off a Unison Raid.

When the two touch the ground again they both embrace each other. "We did it!" They cry. As Juvia hugs Lucy she can't help but notice, "You're warm. I think this is the first time a girl has never hated me." Even after all I did to you, she wants to say, but can't bring herself too. She doesn't want Lucy to wake up and realize who she's celebrating with.

"Don't go celebrating just yet!"

The two girls squeal and look back to see the water spirit Lucy summoned.

"Never summon me in a freaky place like that again! You hear me?!" the spirit shouts.

"Of course, Aquarius," Lucy squeaks.

The spirit, Aquarius, scoffs. "I'm going on a vacation with my boyfriend for two weeks. Don't call on me. You should get one too y'know. Although for you it's easier said than done," she says before disappearing.

"Wow. It's not like I'm looking for one anyway," Lucy says.

Juvia tries to not let the shock show on her face. With how many boys that are tripping over themselves to date Lucy, Juvia's surprised her spirit would make a comment like that. "Love's important," she manages to say.

Lucy sits down and lies back in the water. The room's no longer flooded but it's still high enough she can semi-float on the water. "Since we took down that creep this Jellal guy isn't gonna have it so easy."

Juvia's surprised Lucy said 'we'. Juvia had assumed Lucy is the type to take all the credit, not that she would be wrong to do so right now. Juvia didn't do anything except get possessed. "It's your victory."

Lucy looks over at her with a smile. "Nah, it was the both of us. I couldn't have done it without you." Juvia blushes at the, in her opinion, undeserved praise. "Also you called me Lucy back there. It made me really happy that we could be friends."

Juvia freezes. Friends...

...friends...

The word is dancing circles around her brain. No one has ever referred to her as a friend before. No one has ever wanted to be. Her first friend. Lucy is her first friend. She's someone's friend. Juvia tears up and then starts to bawl. "My eyes... they're raining!"

Lucy laughs, and it sounds like wind chimes. A sound that get carried by the wind and makes everyone smile when they hear it. "That's a cute way to put it."

Cute... Juvia is cute.

"Come lay back. We should take it easy for now. We just won!"

Juvia lays in the water with Lucy. She looks over at Lucy, who has her eyes closed, and watches her face. Looking at her so closely make Juvia realize why she infuriated her before. Lucy is everything she isn't. Lucy is like spring. She's a sunny day, a meadow full of flowers, she's...

Oh.

Juvia's eyes widened, she has spent a concerning amount of time watching Lucy but this thought has never occured to her before. Lucy being so popular and well liked bothered her. Lucy being liked by Gray even more so. She had thought it was because she liked Gray and Lucy was a rival for Gray's affections but all this time Lucy had never shown that type of interest in him. So why did Lucy make her so upset?

A blush crawls up Juvia's face, the answer seems so obvious now. Juvia isn't in love with Gray. She's in love with Lucy.

Gruvia Week 2024

Day 2: Perserverance.

type: soft/fluff/attempt of Humor, comfort.

characters: Gray Fullbuster/Juvia Lockser, Natsu Dragneel, Lucy Heartfilia, Erza Scarlet, Cana Alberona, Gajeel Redfox, and Jason.

"Juvia! Hurry or we'll watch it without you!" Lucy's voice rang through Gray and Juvia's house as she called for her "friend. And Juvia really wished she ceased to exist in this moment.

Her interview with Jason was released today in the Lacirama TV and it's going to be viewed worldwide, that itself was stressful for Juvia, it doesn't make it any better that Jason did not mention that her footage will be released all across Fiore.

That liar.

"i am coming!" she sighed, her heart accelerating with anxiety.

she brought the tray of food with her, they were just simple snacks she made for Natsu since she knows he'll ask about them in the middle of their watching session, and she doesn't want him to eat everything that's in her fridge.

Once Juvia came in to the living room everyone was hooked into the screen, except for Gray (and Natsu because he sniffed the snacks) who was leaning by the side of their navy blue coach, he was probably worried that she might not be comfortable.

It eased Juvia's heart a bit.

"Cheer up, it's just an interview" He said, as she bent down to put the tray on their small wooden table.

"Right, it is just an interview witnessed by the whole population of Fiore" she replied, anxiously rubbing her hands over each other. she felt Gray's hand rubbing her arm in comfort and leaned closer to her ear.

"do you want me to tell them to leave?" He suggested.

it's ideal to accept his offer since Gray isn't ashamed of calling out people, or to deny anyone's request if it doesn't sit well with her, it made her stomach flutter with awe.But she couldn't just kick her friends out, it doesn't feel right, especially since they are here for the sake of supporting her.

they don't exactly know why Juvia is avoiding the interview. Just thinking about that answer makes her fume with embarrassment, she hopes she'll melt by then.

Juvia looked at him warmly, and shook her head "Thank you Darling, Juvia appreciates it" she gave a tight grab to his hand and he smiled back, although he is unsure about her response.

Cana waved over for her to sit next in between her and Erza :" come over here star girl" she called her over with a smirk in her face, the nickname makes Juvia cringe internally.

"please don't call me that Cana" she sat down, Cana wrapped her arm over her shoulders.

"why do you feel embarrassed anyways? we are you friends, we won't judge you" her red-haired friend said while she drank tea. Juvia knows she is right but this is about Juvia's hidden guilty pleasure and she doesn't want to be laughed at or brought up to the guild.

Juvia just hummed in acknowledgment.

" besides, you've done enough embarrassing things in your life, this is nothing against it" Gajeel added, Juvia was unimpressed with his teasing and wanted to wipe off that smirk from his face.

Natsu only chuckled at that with his mouth full of blue berry biscuits she baked this morning.

"Maybe shut up and let us hear the interview? it's about to start" and comes her lover to the rescue as usual, even though she did not find the joke bothersome, it is nice to know that Gray is protective of her feelings, he doesn't show it most of the time but when he does, it's subtle, and it always catches Juvia off guard.

"Hello everyone! and welcome back to our show of Q and A with our famous mages!!" Natsu groaned as the rowdy voice disturbed his highly sensitive ears.

"why does he have to do that all the time?" he complained, while rubbing his ears gently.

"Someone has to break the news to him" Lucy added from her seat on the love chair, a frown of irritation was visible on her face.

everyone couldn't agree more, he is a good interviewer but too enthusiastic.

"today we are ready to show you our special guest! she is classy , calm like the water! gentle as the sea but also scary as the turbulence of the ocean! She was a former enemy of FairyTail!" everyone complained about the comment he made, it was completely unnecessary to bring up past disputes and mistakes, but for Juvia it wasn't that bad, even if she wants to wipe away her crimes from her past, that was still something part of her.

" an S-class mage who summons the rain around her, everyone, make some noise for....JUVIA LOCKSER OF THE SEA!!!" there was an added footage of clapping heard from the TV, and flashing lights to make her entrance exciting, it is evident that he put a lot of efforts to make it 'cool' like he usually says.

Juvia's face finally appeared on the screen.

"Here's our girl!" Cana commented, her smile brightening up, Juvia blushed slightly from the attention.

the first questions were all introductory, how Juvia was feeling today, what she ate in the morning and what she is wearing ect, then comes the part of Fans Questions that Jason usually calls FanQs, they are letters sent to the Lacirama device using an app that connects socially to everyone in the world, they get to choose the most interesting questions.

"So Juvia, how come you weren't so tired of pursuing Gray Fullbuster? wasn't he avoiding every affection?" Gray cleared his throat awkwardly, although he is trying to play it nonchalant but Juvia can feel that he was guilty about it.

"oh, well Juvia did feel tired sometimes but she didn't fell out of love just because Gray-sama didn't love me the way I l oved him, Juvia was happy just seeing him by my side"

"ohhh what an answer!" Cana said.

"Ugh"

"That's adorable!"

"if I were you, I'd leave him" Natsu claimed, that earned him a slap behind his head from Gray.

"Cool!cool! so cool!" Jason exclaimed, making the camera shake with him:" another question from the fans, how do you keep on loving someone without feeling a burnout?"

Juvia took a moment to reply to the question, she hummed in contemplation :" Juvia thinks is because of Perseverance, Juvia didn't expect Gray-sama to fall in love with me, she just focused on being there with him every moment, if he needed help Juvia will be there, and if he needed space she will give him that"

" you would huh" Gray teased, and Juvia looked away shyly, it wasn't completely a lie but she remembered how persistent she was back then, a simple no from him wouldn't make her leave immediately.

"Cool, cool! and very romantically cool!" Juvia just smiled, averting her eyes from the camera in shyness.

"is this why you were acting embarrassed all day?" Erza asked, her cup of tea already empty.

"no, Juvia will never shy away from showing her love towards Gray-sama" she replied confidently.

And then she remembered the unsettling sensation in her stomach, soon they will realize her hidden hobby that would make the world laugh at her. She clinched her teeth.

"then why do you look like Jason is going to reveal some top secret of yours?" Erza's questions were making Juvia feel more nervous than before, especially when her brown eyes are regrading her as if she is hiding something.

"Um..." she couldn't master up any words to cover up her anxious demeanor.

"And now to the last question from the lovely fans! what is Juvia Lockser's guilty pleasure! I am sure every famous mage has some hidden hobby that makes them feel cool! so cool!"

Juvia's smile froze awkwardly on the screen, as if she was caught red-handed.

"well! Juvia is feeling tired, I should probably take a nap-" as she abruptly got up from the couch startling her friends in the process, two big hands caught her shoulders and pushed her gently and firmly down to her seat.

"sit down" Gajeel demanded, still looking at the TV.

Juvia starting to feel the heat temperature rise up.

"is there any chance Juvia could avoid this question?" she asked with shyness, and a bit guilty, she doesn't like to disappoint her fans.

"No sorry Miss Lockser, it's against the rules of FanService" he responded bluntly, Juvia knew that there was no way out to deny a journalist who has a great amount of zeal and curiosity as Jason's, and she can not make up a lie in front her fans, it makes her feel superficial.

she took a breather and sighed.

"alright, if that's what the fans want" she looked at the camera head on "In Juvia's free time, I make puppet shows alone in my apartment, I have my own puppets that I knitted and ... yes... Juvia enjoys it "

"this won't be aired all over Fiore, right?" she whispered to him and he eagerly shook his head as a yes.

"of course Miss Lockser! rest assured it is just a test for our new show!"

she should have denied agreeing with him that day.

There was silence in Juvia and Gray's salon except for the cool chanting of Jason's as he ended the show, Juvia had her face hidden behind her hands, she couldn't face her friends after her revelation, actually, she doesn't think she could face anyone in Fiore.

" That's what got you anxious the whole day?" Gray asked with a hint of amusement; she looked up at her lover who was smiling at her, and not in a teasing way but actually in wonder.

her friends were all looking at her exceptionally, as if they were waiting for her to mention something.

"what?" she asked dumbly. "Juvia you make puppet shows! that's amazing!" Lucy started, and walked excitedly towards her friend.

"yeah, puppet shows are so fun, I remember watching one when I was so little, I died laughing" Cana added with the same range of enthusiasm.

"wait so.. you don't find this embarrassing?" She asked, her friends complained loudly.

"what's there to be embarrassed about? they are just puppets" Gajeel replied, his gaze

held a little bit of softness as he looked down at her.

"well, they are puppets talking to each other and ...making voices?" she tried to find a reason to make her hobby sound unusual to her friends, but they don't seem to find it that way except for fun and creative.

"Not to mention, they are very hard to make, and it costs a lot for the material" Erza added, her eyes held a sense of pride, it made Juvia feel comforted compared to before.

"I definitely want a puppet show every time I get back from a mission" Natsu claimed. The cookie plate was all empty and no crumbs were seen.

"so why not make us one tomorrow?" He suggested, he tried to grab another cookie and found nothing but air, he grunted in disappointment.

After their friends left their house, it was filled with a good quiet ambiance, the coffee odor was filling it instead, Gray was making two cups and setting a muffin plate (that he kept hidden from Natsu because he ate too much) for their table.

"that was ... completely unexpected! Juvia's puppet show is not ridiculous?" announced the blue-haired mage as she paced around the living room back and forth, to connect the events that happened.

Gray just hummed, she knows that she kept on bringing it up, and even if her lover advised her to sit down while he started making the brunch, she couldn't help the buzzing excitement and the overwhelming sensation.

" Juvia has to make the best puppet show tomorrow! because imagine if she disappoints them?" she turned around to her Gray as he came by with the muffin plate and the two cups of coffee.

"how about you sit down first and then we'll worry about it?"

She finally sat down with the bitter taste of coffee in her mouth, drinking it slowly as she looked at the Lacirama Television showing Juvia's magazine with "PERSEVERANCE" as the headline title.

the magazine opened straight to Juvia's page, showing the passage of her interview that she had with Jason.

"Perseverance was something Juvia held to so she can keep on going, and not only to win Gray-sama's heart but it is also to find true self and to grow into someone I w ant, it wasn't easy of course, but if you obtain this as a trait, Trust me you'll accomplish anything you set your mind to, Juvia promises you that"

comments of fans were displayed under the passage, they were all showing their support and gratitude to what she said. it was heartwarming.

she felt Gray's lips on her cheek, she felt her heart about to explode.

" I'm v er y proud of you" he said softly, looking at her with amazement and love, and all Juvia could do was scream inside a pillow.

her perseverance was worth it.

Strauss siblings headcanons? I like all of them but I mean more focus on their relationship with each other. They have so much history and the potential for their developing (familial) feelings towards each other to be explored is ridiculous: before Mira’s arm was taken over, when they were travelling to find answers, when they were in the guild together learning takeover magic and Mira because S-Class eventually, when Elfman lost control of his full body beast soul and injured Lisanna before she ‘died’/went to Edolas against her will while Mira was overseeing them (it was an S-Class one and she was the only S-Class), when Lisanna was gone (but missing Earthland siblings while acting for her Edolas siblings) and Mira worked in customer service and admin type roles rather than use her magic while Elfman only used his arm as they all grieved, when Lisanna came back and Mira and Elfman were both using magic their magic to its full potential, after the 7 year timeskip (they were all on Tenrou) and then after the one year timeskip. Thanks so much. I love your Lisanna, Elfman and Mirajane appreciation posts.

Elfman is actually a lot stronger than his usual battles tend to imply. The Beast was a serious threat in its day, enough to have S-Class Mirajane so badly on the backfoot that she said herself she was getting beaten pretty badly. However, Elfman is still extremely cautious about how much he taps into his Beast Soul forms due to the experience of being unable to turn back and what happened to Lisanna. On raw power, he's definitely S-Class, but he holds back a lot due to restricting himself very stringently to what he knows is safe to use.

Speaking of Lisanna, the canon scenes imply (because Mashima had no plan when bringing her back) that when Anima took her as she was dying, she just...kind of glowed and turned into light particles, when it was previously implied Lisanna died on the spot and was buried. We're gonna tweak this slightly: Mirajane and Elfman actually buried Edolas Lisanna, who Anima swapped with Earthland Lisanna as they were both dying in unrelated incidents and who is actually the one Mirajane knelt with as she was dying.

All of the Strauss siblings are magnets for attention. Elfman and Lisanna are both a little dense about it and both unsure how to proceed when it's brought to their attention, but they have about the same amount of admirers as Mirajane. Strauss genes, man, they're just really pretty.

There are some secret Beast Souls Elfman's got access to but that's not for here or now. 🤍 I don't give away my fic plots that easily.

The whole family loves animals and I know that's already apparent but listen, there's never gonna be anyone you can trust more with animal care than Elfman and Lisanna. It's at least canon those two outright helped incubate/raise Happy, okay? They regularly volunteer at animal shelters, too, and anytime there's a mission involving animals, they take it.

Elfman is especially good friends with Natsu, Gajeel, and Laxus, while Lisanna is especially close to Wendy. Elfman, because he knows what it's like to share a part of yourself with a powerful entity that affects your body, and Lisanna because she's very serene and really gets Wendy's pacifistic nature, they're both very in touch with the natural world around them.

Lisanna has a natural aversion to Beast Soul and Demon Soul takeovers, she's simply too gentle for them. However, she is remarkably gifted with Take Over in general. She's able to rapidly chain different Take Over forms one after another when this would exhaust a lesser wizard, and can even mix-and-match certain elements of them.

Anyone wanting to date literally any Strauss sibling has to pass at least two checks, one from each remaining sibling. Elfman thinks he's the one who takes it most seriously and is most aggressive about it. He is not.

I feel like not enough appreciation is given to the fact that from day one Fairy Tail handed us the full fledged found family trope we grab onto mere crumbs of in other pieces of fiction. So here is an incomplete list of examples because I was feeling a lot of things on my rewatch [uh also SPOILER ALERT I guess?]

Makarov repeatedly calls them his children to everyone who didn't ask

They also all call him Gramps every. other. sentence.

Cana was waiting to reveal herself to her literal biological father, but even she already had Macao and Wakaba *right there* being her dads something which goes sorely unappreciated as well

And speaking of Gildarts: before he knew about his own literal biological child, he was just like "I will be Natsu's father figure", did Dad Activities with him, and imparted key life lessons

(Plus both he and Makarov are constantly like "stay away from my kids" "I didn't want the kids to see this" " you think a parent would stand by when you hurt their kids" "it's my job to protect the kids" so there's that too)

Mirajane has two of her own blood relatives and still goes around adopting sisters left and right (looking at you Yukino) simply because they exuded little sister energy

Oh and look at Kagura being all "I'd rather you be my sister" because the Fairy Tail family energy is so strong it extends to other guilds (see also: all of Sabertooth)

I mean let's be real even Porylusia - who notably hates people - calls them Makarov's kids (and does so affectionately!)

Lamia Scale had it as a clause in Wendy's membership that she'd go back to Fairy Tail eventually because even with Shelia there, they get that FT is her real home

Do we even need to elaborate on the Alvarez arc? No but seriously the entire premise on the guild's side of things is that Gramps is in danger and they need to protect Mavis and their family. Fiore and the literal end of the world are *canonically* only secondary motivation COME ON

Also I fully had the Bloodman fight spoiled for me and it still hit hella hard because Gajeel is RIGHT THERE admitting he found family with Levy and Lily and Fairy Tail that he never thought he'd have so I don't even know why I'm still compiling evidence at this point (I'm not crying you're crying)

And if that all wasn't enough, barely an episode goes by without mentioning at least once that the guild is their home and their family sooooo . . .

I'm Still Thinking About Juvia After All These Years

[EIGHT] years.

It's been [EIGHT] years since I've posted My Incredibly Unpopular Thoughts on Juvia. This series was the start of me growing more out of my shell in blogging and helping me develop as a writer.

I decided it would be fun to go through the subjects of each post and talk about them, especially in relation to my past post. And what a one to start with.

Over the years, I have changed my opinion over a number of characters and subjects. You'd think that Juvia wouldn't be one of those characters. For all I've said about Juvia and Gruvia especially in recent years, you'd think I'd have similar views on both to when I started making these posts.

And that's not too far off.

Yeah, crazy to think that I'm probably more against the ship than when I wrote the original post. When I wrote that post, I was just on the verge of disliking the ship. Now, I'm absolutely not in favor of the ship.

About the only thing that makes this not as hard for me as it probably should be is the obvious. Gruvia is an inevitability at this point. With every chapter in the sequel, this truth becomes more and more clear to all of us.

Though, as I've said before, this is one of my least favorite things about the sequel. This isn't just about the inevitability of the ship. It feels like Mashima is inventing ways to put Juvia in the story where she doesn't belong. Like we're in the middle of an arc where Sabertooth is here even though they don't belong there... after an arc where Gajeel and Laxus were part of the story even though they didn't belong there. And I feel like we've seen too much of Juvia in this sequel.

If anything has changed in the recent years regarding Juvia, I have a bit of an appreciation of her as a character. Working on two different posts helped in this regard.

The first, incidentally, was yet another attempt to talk about Juvia in the rewrite. (Don't ask, I'll get back on it.) I really struggled to figure out how to write about Juvia without giving a lot of focus on Juvia. Though, in the process, I think I came up with a good way to think of Juvia's arc: coming to better understand love during her time in the guild.

The second might not be one you'd expect. About a year after that post, I made a post defending Izuocha from the claim of being one-sided. In thinking through that post, I said that I wouldn't consider Ochako to be considerably worse than Juvia over Deku. Though, I also said that my view on Juvia became better over the years.

Overall, I appreciate that Juvia's development being centered around Gray isn't technically unique. I've made a number of comparisons in this respect over the years. My favorite character in this series is Natsu and my favorite thing about him is his connection to Igneel. Surely, I can appreciate that aspect in Juvia.

I like a lot of other things about Juvia. Water is one of my favorite magic elements. Juvia's ability to use it is hilariously impressive and probably the best I know. If you took Juvia and plopped her into a different series, where Gray doesn't exist, she'd probably be my favorite character in that series.

You might remember that Navia (the ship with her and Juvia) is my third favorite ship with Natsu in it. Of that trio of top Natsu ships, that's probably the ship that I like both characters the most. I just barely put Nali above it, considering how much I've done with Lisanna over the years. (Can't wait to do revisit that one.)

One last thing to talk about: the death. I can't help myself. (read: I'm literally drafting a post in Tumblr the day I plan to post it for the first time in years just to keep this trend going.)

For those who don't know, the original post came out on August 31st. I made (techincally, I repeated) a prediction then that Juvia was going to die. At the time, it was based on a faulty understanding of Rave and an awkwardly prophetic reading of the chapter the week before. That was chapter 453, which was where Juvia and Gray talk about the future after Lucy mentions death flags.

One year to the day, I made a number of reactions to chapter 499. The chapter where Juvia died. Overall, I was pissed that Gruvia fans compared it to Reina and Musica. In preparing for another post, I'm glad to report that fans have made the case against doing this. But, having actually read Rave in the year, I couldn't believe fans argued this.

And, every year for the next five years, I made a post talking about Juvia dying in one way or another. Not every post was absolutely about the events of Juvia dying. However, I mentioned Juvia dying in a post on August 31st every year of this blog.

Up to last year. To be honest, I don't know why I didn't have an idea for a post that year. That year was a mess, noted by my overall lack of posts. This year is only kind of better. Here's hoping.

In Conclusion:

Mashima's content to not make me like Juvia. I wish that weren't the case.

It's a long doozy xD

It happens. Can't truly blame them as they have their own things going on behind-the-scenes and I do have my moments where I'm like that to them. Same with family members, but that's a different story! xD

Thinking about it now that I'm in a calmer state, I really do want them to live well. Some aren't really bad people, even if I no longer see us getting along. I don't have the energy to hold grudges, nor do I to think about different scenarios of what could have been if things were different. It'd make me miserable and it impacts my productivity, including the ones that are necessary for my livelihood lol. With my asocial personality, it's already expected that I won't have long-term friends, so I really appreciate those who stuck by when they do.

It's very stupid lol. My last fandom before this one was Genshin Impact, and I was on that hoe for at least a year and counting, especially when coping during quarantine was not fun. I don't even get a long hiatus from work as I was "an essential worker". Compared to the YB fandom, I spent a king's ransom to get primogems and the merchandise. I used to play it every waking morning, and late at night. Then one day, I started to feel burnt out from all the grinding and the rewards no longer seem to match the difficulty. The twitter outrage and toxicity over the 1st year anniversary was the breaking point out of my obsession.

I was then on a lookout for new interest, watching ManlyBadassery videos when his gameplay of YB was recommended on my YT thumbnail feed. I gave it a watch, and thought it was an interesting concept, as I think it's the first time to that I got interested into stickman designs. What dragged me into the pit was the fan videos of the gray stickman. I thought it was very ridiculous to see peeps simping over a gray stickman like he was so sexyy, ... until I rejoined Twitter on my hardly-used nsfw account to see the fan art. They really sold me on him xD.

I started drawing him because I couldn't be on that inside jokes and memes others had made when I couldn't play the game at the time. Even if the fandom was no longer the same as it was in the beginning and I did play the game , but didn't match with my expectations (this version had its voice acting taken out), and its other issues, I really couldn't help but still find inspiration to draw for the characters as it did have its positives. It helped me in my toughest times and I want to repay that as I mentioned every now and then. Though don't get it twisted, I'm very much drawing for myself too so I can get the content I want, and life is short. It's been getting harder to get over each one, and since anything can happen, I'm preparing myself either way! People can block me if they don't like me or what I draw! I'm encouraging it, actually-- firm believer of getting along in separate rooms!

Current mood: Achieving a sense of peace within myself. It can't be helped for the way the world works, so I wanna learn to handle the challenges and the people ahead.

Ummm... Hi.

So on Fairy Tail: what are your thoughts on the dragon slayers? Not anything in specific. Can be the ogs and the completely bonkers time travel shenanigans, second gen and how in the world that technology popped up and for how long, whatever you want to share.

Umm...feel free to ask my on my head canons too.

I LOVE thinking about dragon slayers. They're fascinating to me. Specifically the concept of the motion sickness being a dragon slayer thing. Here's how I like to think of it;

The dragon slayers all have some sort of animalistic vibe to them, some less, some more. But the fact that they're essentially dragons in human bodies makes it funky when they come across something that a dragon wouldn't normally interact with, like a moving vehicle. My theory is that their human brains and their dragon bodies get mixed up, their human brains know that vehicles are normal and safe, while their dragon bodies are confused and scared as to why the ground is moving underneath them. The same happens to my dog in the car, but he doesn't know what a car is.

Individual dragon slayers? I have thoughts on them.

Natsu- He's actually my least favorite of the slayers, which is a controversial opinion. Not to say I don't like Natsu, I just like all of the others more than him. My favorite running gag that involves him is the one where he goes all "NINJA," it's really silly. I wish we got to see him playing straight man more, I'm kind of tired of Natsu being the butt of the joke all the time. (i also think lucy can do a bit better but that's a conversation for another day)

Gajeel- I like Gajeel a lot, and I really like his relationship with Levy, it feels the most realistic out of all the Big 4 ships. Gajeel feels the most like a normal person out of all the dragon slayers to me. He's an adult that has his shit together and I find that FASCINATING in the context of the FT series because there's not many characters that check the boxes of "adult" and "consistently has their shit together" when it comes down to it.

Wendy- I honestly have no feelings on Wendy. She's nice, but I don't spend a lot of time thinking about her. One thing I love though is how close she is with Erza. A lot of people make the mother-daughter relationship comparison with them, but to me they seem more like sisters. I would also like to say on the record that Carla is my second favorite Exceed. Don't get why so many people hate Carla.

Laxus- Second favorite slayer. I LOVE Laxus so much. His characterization in 100YQ feels like "Erza and Lucy's older brother" which is something I really appreciate. I wish we got to see him interact with the Thunder Legion in a way that wasn't him "protecting or avenging them" Because the Thunder Legion is STRONG and I wish Laxus talked about his cool strong hot friends more. Also like... we don't get a ton of them interacting as friends. Like, for example, Freed and Bix starting a stupid arguement over nothing and Laxus being confused as to why the hell they're arguing. Or Evergreen having some sort of relationship issues and Laxus being lost as to what to do. That kind of thing. We don't get that enough. Also I just think Laxus is kinda sexy and cool and I Like him a lot. One thing I see a lot in regards to Laxus is how the lacrima was inserted. People think the eye scar is from the lacrima insertion but I just don't agree. When he was fighting Kirin, the lacrima came from his chest. How did it end up there if it was inserted via the eye. I think the dragon slayer just eat the lacrima tbh. It makes more sense because they eat all other forms of magic power. Also a lot less disturbing to think about than "intrusive surgery on a child"

Sting- I've never been like an avid Sting fan, and the more I think about him, the more I'm confused. What defines "light" magic? How do his innate dragon slayer magic ability and the lacrima interact? Do they magnify his power or just make it easier to access? Many questions. I feel like if Sting was given more time in 100YQ he could become one of the stronger slayers. There's light everywhere and if he eats light to gain magic power, that's just like unlimited magic power. Right???? Another thing I find interesting is how he handled Lector's "death." His reaction wasn't as drastic as Future Rogues's reaction to Frosch's death. If anything, the Sabertooth master (i forget his name ooops) had it coming. Everything points to him being abusive and cruel to his guild in the past. I don't blame Sting for snapping. side note. nothing about Sting indicates that he's anything other than bisexual.

Rogue- I never found Rogue to be particularly interesting up until a few weeks ago, when I realized that out of the Twin Dragons, he's actually the weird one. Like I said, Sting didn't have an abhorrent world ending reaction to his exceed "dying." Rogue did. The boy's a ticking time bomb. The moment something goes wrong, BOOM. He's summoning a dragon army to destroy the world. Unstable as all hell. Rogue's a softie at heart though, and I've come to appreciate his bond with Frosch and hold it near and dear.

Cobra- My favorite of the slayers. There's just something about this strange gender ambiguous anti-hero snake person that fascinates me. I didn't think about her much on my first watch though the series in like 2020 but once I started getting back into it this fall I realized "holy shit I LOVE the Snake She/He/They." I already posted about how I identify with Cobra a lot but I'll say it again. Auditory sensory issues? Check. Kind of an outcast? Check. Affinity/overall association with animals? Check. There's more I could add to the list of course, but those are the main things. I really like how his relationship with Kinana was almost like an easter egg, a treat for people who watched the Key to the Starry Heavens arc. Doesn't impact anything at all story wise, but it's a nice little thing that I can hold on to. I have a feeling that Cobra is gonna show up in the next few arcs in 100YQ along with Sting and Rogue, since it's a very dragon-focused series. In an ideal world, they would have some sort of petty banter with Mest. I just think they would be good friends in a "this is my idiot" way. You get to decide who's the idiot.

Chapter 3

Lucy spent some time just crying and trying to calm herself down, cradling the golden key close to her chest.

"Why don't you go downstairs, find Mira, and she can give your guild mark, we can handle the rest of the paperwork at a later time. I think these past few days have been taxing for you." The Master spoke after a few minutes, once her crying subsided.

Lucy nodded offering the man a small strained smile, standing up she made her way to the door before stopping with her hand on the handle and turned around to face the man once more.

"I would appreciate it if my past and last name stayed between us, I'm not ready for anyone to know."

Lucy said a little apprehensive and the old man gave her a firm nod, waving his hand dismissively in the air.

"No need to worry my dear, we don't pry here at Fairy Tail. When and if you are ready to talk about your past, know that we're here for you."

Giving the old man a more genuine smile she thanked him and left the office. Closing the door behind her, Lucy paused for a moment and rested her back on the door.

Taking a few deep breaths to center herself, still reeling from her newfound memories.

Memories of her mother, and the spirits they both loved.

Lucy knew her father was a cruel man, but she never thought he'd be able to surprise her with his behavior.

This should be a lesson not to underestimate him, not that she did in the first place, but this is a whole new ballpark.

'To think he's known about magic this whole time.'

A loud crash echoed through the guild, pulling her from her thoughts.

Focusing her attention, Lucy could hear the bustle of a crowd coming from downstairs, indicating that she was in the office with the Master for a while.

Shoulders back and head held high Lucy made her way back down the stairs.

She couldn't see Wendy, but she did spot Levy sitting at a different table than this morning, she was explaining something to the two men who were sitting at her side, looking thoroughly confused.

One had an orange ponytail and was wearing a purple shirt, that in Lucy's opinion clashed with his hair.

The other was a black-haired man, with one piece of his hair sticking out and curling above his head.

Lucy smiled and waved at Levy as she passed her table, the blue-haired girl smiled at her before going back to her explanation.

Nearing the bar, Lucy could see that the girl that was drinking this morning was now surrounded by two empty barrels, and was currently drinking her third.

'Is she even human?' Lucy thought in disbelief.

Looking around, she could see people scattered along the tables of the guild.

Most were drinking, eating, and talking amongst themselves, having fun, and enjoying each other's company.

While others seemed to be brawling in the back corner of the building, there was a mass of limbs and bodies entwined, magic flashing as blows were exchanged.

There was a raised platform of sorts on the right side, with what looked like a bulletin board, papers pinned to it with a few people gathered around.

She spotted Mirajane behind the bar and went straight to her.

"Hello Mirajane" Lucy greeted the girl, sitting on one of the barstools.

"Oh, Hello Lucy. Call me Mira, please, everyone does. Now tell me did your talk with the master go well? Are you hungry? I can have Lis cook you something if you are." The girl asked Lucy, fretting over the girl.

Lucy was stunned for a moment. Not used to people caring about her and not being employed to do so. She looked at the girl in front of her and gave her a small, almost shy smile.

"The talk went well, thank you for asking. He actually sent me down here to find you so you can give me my guild mark."

Lucy told her, and the smile on Mira's face widened, clapping her hands together in joy the white-haired woman jumped at Lucy's words.

"Oh that's wonderful, I was hoping he would ask you to join. Let me just get the stamp." And before Lucy could say anything Mira was off.

Left to her own devices, Lucy started thinking about what she was supposed to do now that she agreed to join Fairy Tail and learn more about her magic.

Where was she supposed to live? She should go and look for a job, despite her bad luck a couple of days back, she's sure she can find something to at least pay for a down payment for an apartment.

She just hoped she wouldn't need to use her emergency savings.

"Hi, you must be Lucy." A soft voice brought her out of her thoughts, looking up Lucy saw the short-haired girl that was helping Mira behind the bar this morning.

She was looking at Lucy with a smile on her face, and as they made eye contact she continued talking.

"I'm Lisanna, Mira's younger sister. It's nice to meet you" She held out her hand for Lucy to shake.

Taking her hand Lucy smiled back at the girl. "Yes, hi. It's nice to meet you as well. You and Mira look alike."

Lisanna waved off her statement "It's just the hair, our brother Elfman has white hair too, it's a Strauss thing." She said with a shrug and pointed out the tall, muscular white-haired man that was laughing at something happening across the bar.

When she got a better look, Lucy realized it was the same man that Natsu hit with the chair last night.

"Oh yeah, I can see that. It's actually kind of cool, like, I've never seen so many unique hair colours that are natural before." Lucy answered looking back at Lisanna.

"You'll come to see that's a staple of our world. Not all, but a good majority have unique hair colours. I could say you fit in the category as well. I've never seen hair that looks so much like gold before, it's really beautiful." Mira's voice joined the conversation as she walked behind the bar, setting down a large stamp.

Lucy blushed a little at her compliment.

"Thank you." She muttered, feeling shy all of a sudden.

"Oh isn't she just the cutest?" Mira asked Lisanna when she noticed her blush, making Lucy even more red in the face.

"She sure is sis. I'll leave you to it then, I just wanted to say hello, need to get back to the kitchen and finish up some orders. Bye Lucy, welcome to Fairy Tail!" Lisanna said with a giggle, and Lucy waved at the girl as she walked away.

"I have the stamp, now, tell me where would you like your guild mark to be, and what colour?" Mira asked, holding the stamp up, and raising a brow at her.

Lucy looked back at Mira and thought about what colour she would want permanently on her body, and was about to ask the girl if she could change it once it was on if she didn't like it when she heard a loud crash and a familiar voice yell.

"Ya're gonna pay for that ya ice prick."

Turning her head, she spotted him easily.

He was in the back where she earlier saw people fighting, he had flames wrapping around his whole body and was charging at a man with midnight black hair, who seemed to be only his boxers for some reason.

Turning back to look at Mira she was about to ask what the hell that was about.

"Don't worry about them, they fight like that all the time, it's harmless. They're just lucky Erza is out on a job or she would have their heads." Mira told her and Lucy nodded her head.

"It's good to know they won't bring down the building, but I was actually going to ask about the guy in his boxers?" Lucy said making Mira laugh.

"Well, that's debatable. " The other girl muttered to herself "And as for the 'stripper' as Natsu so eloquently calls him, that is Gray.

He uses Ice Magic, he claims that the person who taught him magic made him strip every day to his boxers so he could learn to endure the cold, and the habit stuck." She shrugged her shoulders and then added as if an afterthought.

"If he ever starts stripping near you, do not hesitate to hit him." Mira told her with a devilish smile.

"Huh, I don't know whether that makes sense or not." Lucy replied honestly, looking over her shoulder at the two brawling men.

She could see fire and ice mixing in a blur of attacks and could feel heat followed by gusts of cold when they exchanged blows.

Then she saw a flash of pink in all the chaos.

Lucy looked down in her lap, and traced the back of her left hand, looking back up at Mira she held out the hand to her with a smile.

"Could you make it pink?" She tried to be nonchalant, but Mirajane just gave her a knowing look before nodding her head.

She took Lucy's offered hand and pressed the stamp to the back of it.

There was a slight tingle when the stamp made contact with her skin, it was a different sensation to her own magic, but it made her feel safe, protected, even.

Mira applied pressure for a few seconds before lifting it to reveal a pink fairy with a tail on the back of Lucy's hand.

"I love it!" Lucy said, turning her hand for Mira to see. "It suits you." The older girl answered with a smile.

Lucy was about to ask Mira if she knew where she could find an apartment or any kind of job when a warm arm draped over her shoulder, making her jump slightly.

"Luce, why didn'tya tell me you were done talking to the old man!" Natsu interrupted her inquiry as he appeared next to her.

She relaxed knowing it was Natsu and answered. "I didn't even see you when I got down here, you said you'd wait for me at the bar, so I came to the bar." She shrugged her shoulders, not knowing what to think of the current contact between them.

She didn't mind, Natsu was warm and his presence somehow had an almost calming effect on Lucy.

It's just the way she was raised. It was not 'proper'. But Lucy never cared much for proper, to begin with.

It had been installed in her since she was little, and she ran away so she could just be normal, just be Lucy.

That's what she was to Natsu, so she let him keep his arm over her shoulder. The pink-haired man looked at her with a bashful smile, hand rubbing his neck in a sign of embarrassment.

"Ya took too long and I started to get bored after Mira told me I couldn't eat anymore or there won't be food left for everyone else, so I went to pick a fight with the stripper." He said with a small shrug making Lucy giggle.

He was ridiculous.

"I'm sure it was hard to wait so long." Lucy teased poking his side with her finger. "Sorry, I kept you waiting."

He shrugged it off, turning to Mira, who was mixing a drink for someone as she pretended not to listen in on their conversation.

"Hey Mira, can ya get me some fire whiskey when you can?" The white-haired girl gave him a nod.

He sat down at the bar next to Lucy.

"By the way, look-" Lucy held up the back of her left hand to show him her new guild mark a wide smile on her face "I'm a part of Fairy Tail!"

Natsu looked at her hand, then back at her, and let out a small scoff.

"Of course, you're a part of Fairy Tail, why'd ya think I brought ya here?" He said as if it were obvious, making Lucy feel warm on the inside.

"Where is here, by the way? I have a storage room with all my belongings that I have to clean out by Friday, what day is it anyway?"

Lucy asked she arrived in Hargeon on Sunday morning, and she was not sure how much time she spent unconscious after her attack.

"It's Tuesday ya weirdo. And we're in Magnolia. That's where Fairy Tail is!" Natsu told her and Lucy gaped at him, mouth slightly open.

"Gods I lost two days, and how are we in Magnolia?"

"Well, when I kicked that thing's ass and saw ya bleedin' out I called Mira for a portal and brought ya here." He shrugged casually.

Lucy felt a headache coming, she was reeling from all the information she had received in the past two days, getting ten hears of locked memories back and now she finds out portals are apparently, a thing.

Because why wouldn't they be in a world where a man can light himself on fire? How is that any less weird?

"And don't call me a weirdo!" She said suddenly, hitting him on the back of his head as she remembered that he's called her that twice now.

Natsu rubbed the back of his head, turning to look at her with a slight pout.

"Whatcha do that for Luce, it hurt." He asked

"I told you why, don't call me a weirdo. Or Luigi, for that matter." She muttered the last part, but he seemed to have heard as he let out a slight laugh.

"But you are a weirdo." He shot back, and at her glare decided to change the topic.

"So I can call ya Luce then?" He asked suddenly taking Lucy off guard.

"You can call me Luce." She managed to say in a somewhat neutral tone, trying and partially failing to hide her blush.

"Cool, so what did take you and Gramps so long anyway?" He beamed at her, genuinely curious, moving to take the shot of whiskey in front of him.

"Oh, well, I discovered that my dad was the one that bound my magic, he also, he-" A lump formed in Lucy's throat as she tried to get the words out, eyes watering slightly.

She felt a warm hand envelop one of hers and when she looked up at him, Natsu gave her a reassuring squeeze.

Lucy took a deep breath.

"My mother was a mage. She could summon spirits from a different realm, when I was little I used to steal her keys and try to use them." She let out a small laugh, a few tears cascading down her cheeks.

"It would work sometimes, and other times I would just use up a lot of my magic and stop trying."

She remembered how many times she fainted in hopes of keeping opening one of the gates. And how many times her father yelled at her for it.

Clenching the hand that wasn't holding Natsu's she continued.

"They were my friends. They were my mother's friends." Lucy didn't know why she decided to share a part of her story with Natsu, but it made her feel a bit lighter.

"I thought you didn't know anything about magic before today, or yesterday. Or was it Sunday?"

He asked getting lost in the minutiae and making Lucy let out a giggle, shoulders dropping, she relaxed her posture and noticed their hand were still entwined.

She gave his hand a squeeze bringing his focus back to her.

She offered him a small smile "I didn't know about magic until yesterday. Well, I did, my father just decided that what good is it binding my magic, if I could still remember it exists?"

She felt Natsu's body temperature rise at her words, even the air around them was getting hotter, his eyes were glaring at her, but the anger was not directed toward her.

"Are ya tellin' me that your father did this? What kind of fucked up person does something like that to their kid?" He grits out and Lucy's heart swells once more.

"Hey, it's okay. The Master managed to bring my memories back and even gave me one of my mother's keys. Look, this is Aquarius!" She tried to divert his anger and get him to focus on something else.

The key warmed in her hands when she touched it.

His eyes snapped to the key the moment she pulled it out of her pocket. Fixated on it with a strange look on his face.

"Natsu?" Lucy asked snapping his attention to her. "Are you okay?"

Natsu's eyes shot back to the key in her hand inspecting it, before looking back at Lucy with a smile that wasn't as bright as it usually was.

"Yeah, I'm good. That sounds like cool magic to have, are ya gonna summon it here?" He asked.

"Well, I need water to summon Aquarius, a lake, or a river." Lucy answered, knowing that she could summon the water spirit from a pond, or even a fish bowl or toilet.

But from what she remembered of the water spirit she was mean and scary on a good day. Summoning her for the first time in a place like that would not end well.

'She would try and drown me.' Lucy shuddered at the thought. The key in her hand heated up even more at her thoughts.

"Okay, let's go get your stuff and see what your magic can do!" He said enthusiastically taking her hand and pulling her out of the guild doors before she could even protest.

With a bright flash, they both stumbled out of the door and into an empty street.

Slightly disoriented, Lucy stood straight with Natsu's help, looking around she couldn't see anyone around, it looked like a deserted part of town.

"Uh, where are we exactly?" Lucy asked turning to Natsu, who was dusting himself down.

"This is where I portaled from the other night, we are a few streets from the sea, do ya wanna go check out the key first or get your things ?" He asked her.

"So we're back in Hargeon." Lucy said to herself.

"We can go to the beach first, then we can find something to eat. Sounds good?" Lucy asked and Natsu let out a spew of fire from his mouth

"Yeshh, I'm all fired up now." He took her hand in his and started running in the direction of the beach. Or at least Lucy hoped.

* ********* ********** ********** ********* *

"Are ya gonna do somethin' or are ya gonna stare at it all day?" Natsu's voice broke her staring contest with Aquarius's key, and she turned to look back at him.

They arrived on the beach thirty minutes ago, and ever since Lucy had been standing at the shore, key in hand, frozen.

He was sitting crossed-legged, drawing patterns in the sand.

"Okay, I can do this, you're right."

Bracing herself, Lucy closed her eyes, thinking back to what, and how she felt when summoning her mother's spirits.

She felt her magic flow through her, looking for a way out, she focused on the key in her hand and felt it heat up.

Opening her eyes Lucy saw the key glowing slightly, she put the front in water.

"Open, gate of the water bearer, Aquarius." She exclaimed and felt a drain on her magic as a flash of light brought forward a blue-haired mermaid caring a jug.

She appeared, levitating on a wave of water.

"So cool." Lucy heard Natsu mumble from behind her at the woman's appearance.

"Tch, took you long enough to summon me. I don't have all day for you to make up your mind. I have a hot boyfriend waiting for me you know!" The spirit greeted her and Lucy's heart clenched at the familiar feeling the spirit ignited within her.

She felt tears build up in her eyes.

"I'm sorry, it's just after everything I was a little scared you would be mad at me. How is Scorpio?" Lucy told the spirit, voice cracking a bit.

She could feel warmth at her back and knew Natsu was behind her. He didn't touch her, but his presence brought her comfort.

The spirit's face softened at Lucy's words, shifting the jug in her hands, a splash of water came out and hit Lucy in the face.

"None of it was your fault. You need to get yourself together, build up your strength and learn how to use your magic." Aquarius told her.

Lucy nodded. "I will, I promise. Do, do you know where Mom sent any of the others?" She asked tentatively.

"I know where some of them are, but you will have to figure it out yourself." The woman answered her looking like she wanted to tell, but couldn't.

Lucy started to feel a bit dizzy holding Aquarius's gate open and swayed slightly on her feet. Natsu's hand was around her elbow in an instant, his chest supporting her back.

"Stupid girl. You haven't summoned a spirit in over 10 years and your magic isn't used to the strain yet. Let's make a contract before you pass out, and so I can go and get ready for my date."

* ********* ********** ********** ********* *

After making a contract with Aquarius (She can only summon her three times a week, never on a Saturday. Unless it's an emergency.)

Natsu and Lucy left the beach to go and find something to eat as it was nearing 4 pm at that point.

"I know this great buffet we can go to, it's all you can eat." Natsu told her as they walked down the streets of Hargeon.

Lucy was listening to him rant about the amazing food at the diner and was looking around the shop displays as they passed when she saw an ornate silver key in one of the windows.

"Hey, let's go in here for a second, I wanna look at something."

She said to Natsu as she stopped, he pouted at her, clearly wanting to get to the diner as soon as possible but Lucy had to know if this was a summoning key.

"Look, that key has a constellation on it." She pointed out to him and he looked at the display and shrugged.

"Sure, let's check it out."

Going into the store Lucy could tell it was owned by someone who loved antiques and knew how to care for them.

There were shelves filled with elaborately decorated trinkets, medieval pieces of armor, art, sculptures, and books that looked ancient in their own right

"Good afternoon, welcome to Herondale and Sons, may I assist you in any way?" A blonde-haired young man asked them, coming from behind the counter.

Lucy could feel Natsu's warmth at her back, her shoulder touching his chest.

"Good afternoon, yes I was wondering if I could take a look at the silver key that is in your display?" Lucy asked.

"Certainly, let me get it for you." The man replied politely, moving towards the display and opening it before carefully removing the key from where it is laid out.

Walking back to where they were, he handed the key to Lucy.

"Here you are, let me know if you need anything else."

Lucy took the key from the man with a smile, she felt a tingle when she touched it, not as strong as it was with Aquarius but it confirmed that it was indeed a magic key.

"So, is it the real deal?" Natsu whispered in her ear and Lucy jumped at the sensation of his hot breath on her neck. While not unpleasant, it did catch her off guard.

She managed to hold in a squeak and turned around to hit the back of his head.

"Have you ever heard of personal space? And yes, it is real. So let's go buy it so we can go eat, yeah?"

He was rubbing the back of his, mumbling under his breath but at the mention of food, his head shot up and he beamed at her. "What are we waiting for then?"

* ********* ********** ********** ********* *

After spending an absurd amount of money on the key, they finally made their way to the all-you-can-eat buffet, only to find out Natsu has been banned for life because he cleared the food the last time he was there.

Lucy tried not to laugh at the clearly dejected man, but it was a little funny.

"Come on, screw them, we can find another place to eat, I'll even buy you some dessert." She offered to try to cheer him up.

He turned to her with a wide smile. "I know just the place." And with that, he smiled and pulled her in an unknown direction.

Twenty minutes later, Lucy found herself opposite Natsu, swearing to herself never to eat with the man again.

He ate like it was his last meal and he's been starving for months.

"What's wrong? Don'tcha like the food?" He asked with a mouthful of food and Lucy couldn't help but grimace at the sight.

"No, the food is great. But you eat like an absolute pig, and it's a little unappetizing." She answered honestly making Natsu choke on his food.

Coughing into his hand, he managed to swallow his food and looked back at her.

"Geez, I never thought of that, sorry I was hungry." He looked a bit awkward admitting it and Lucy smiled at him.

"It's okay, just please try to be a little less messy. And don't talk with a full mouth." She said the last part sternly, making him sit up straight and salute her.

"Aye, sir."

Lucy giggled at his actions and started eating.

Natsu let her eat for 2 minutes before he went back to stuffing his face, albeit a little less gross this time around.

As they finished their food they both sat back in the booth.

"That was good food." Natsu said, rubbing his stomach.

"It was. You were right." Lucy told him making him smile. "'Course I was right, I know my food." He puffed out, blowing smoke into her face.

Coughing slightly, Lucy waved her hand in the air trying to get the smoke out of her face.

"Jerk." She muttered, making him laugh at her.

A waiter passed their table, making Lucy remember something she wanted to ask Mira before Natsu interrupted their conversation earlier.

"Hey Natsu, do you know where I could start looking for jobs when we get back to Magnolia?" She asked him.

He turned to look at her like she was crazy.

"I don't have a job, and I don't have any place to live. I can't just stay at the guild and do nothing. I only have so much money saved up."

That was true, before running away she managed to transfer the small amount of her trust fund she was allowed access to when she turned 18.

It was a good amount of money, it helped get her out of Crocus and put a down payment on her first apartment, after that she managed to find jobs and sustain herself and left the money for when shit hits the fan.

She thought that would happen when her father found her, but magical worlds being real works too.

"Why would you need to look for a job? Just work at Fairy Tail." Natsu finally answered her initial question, ignoring the previous rant.

"Oh, I guess I could waitress, or help Mira behind the bar." Lucy said making Natsu groan.

"No that's not what I meant, Levy and Wendy told you how being a guild mage works right?" He asked the last part more quietly.

"Oh you mean like going out and fighting monsters and evil wizards? No, thank you." Lucy told him making him pout at her.

"Oh don't be like that, it'll be fun. I'll even let you pick our first job." He pleaded with her, giving her the full pouty puppy dog face.

Lucy tried, she really did, but he looked so ridiculous and somehow so cute at the same time.

So she just sighed dramatically, the corners of her mouth lifting slightly.

"Fine, fine. I will go on a job with you."

Natsu whooped at her response, making most of the diner look at their booth, Lucy slid down the leather seats, cheeks red.

'Idiot." She thought fondly to herself as she listened to him ramble on about how they were going to kick ass.
