LOVE THAT HE GOT FIRED!!!! HE DESERVES THE WORST IN LIFE!! 🎉🥳🎉🎉

but my 2cents is this: as a kid who was unpleasantly exposed to A LOT of Bill O’Reilly as a youth, I felt the same way when he got fired! Overjoyed! Immense relief. BUT SOMEONE ELSE ALWAYS COMES IN.

When tucker carlson started, I ended up watching him a lot too because I hadn’t left my parents’ home yet, and at first I was really relieved. He sounded smart, reasonable, he didn’t raise his voice and yell like O’Reilly . And my parents liked him better because of that!! With O’Reilly we could get my mom on board with convincing my dad to turn the news off, because they didn’t like the negative energy he brought out. No one did.

With tucker carlson, he presented himself much more reasonably and calmly,did that quizzical brow thing when he said something, that little, “don’t you think?” look he would give. He seemed much less insidious, much easier to agree with. But FOX NEWS DID NOT GET ANY LESS INSIDIOUS. (I’m more aware of it now than I was as a kid, obviously, especially because I started my degree in communication studies in 2012 and just generally got more aware of other perspectives, (typical “brainwashed by the liberals at college” here!)) AND IN FACT, because the political divide seems more intense than ever before, because SO MANY actual human rights have been stripped back away, and any modicum of decency has truly been thrown out the window, I began to realize that Tucker Carlson was actually way MORE INSIDIOUS than O’Reilly! He is a HUGE factor in the radicalization of “reasonable conservatives,” and I do really place a lot of blame directly on his shoulders. It’s just like. FUCK. Look where we are now!

But he’s just a talking head. Fox News still exists, and probably will continue to do so. And so even though this IS a fun little victory, I just can’t get too excited. I dread what comes next. I feel like that scene in Hercules: now we’ve cut the head off a hydra without knowing that that means 7 more heads. Idk. I’m terrified of what this next set of heads will look like. 😔

so in the spirit of the 4th of July here is a story. the summer before my senior year of high school was back around when childish gambino dropped "This is America." our graduating class in the most conservative ass ex confederate town had a group chat and everyone was going on about god bless america and you know I had to do it. I sent the music video. I immediately got bombarded with messages calling me a bitch but then this one guy challenged me as like the alpha Tucker Carlson stan of the class saying "you realize you wouldn't have freedom of speech in any other country besides America, right?" so of course I was like "holy shit you're kidding right" and he was like "no, I dare you to try and name one. and Canada doesn't count." so I was like actually here's the link to the wiki page listing freedom of speech by country. it didn't matter or anything they all still threatened my life but I thought it was funny.
