“The New York City college student arrested in Russia for possession of medical marijuana was released from jail after being sentenced to time served and fined more than $200, reports say.

Audrey Lorber, a 19-year-old resident from Staten Island, was found guilty Monday of “attempting to import marijuana purchased in the U.S. into Russia” after she was arrested at Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg with 19 grams of medical marijuana, the New York Post reported citing the Moscow District Court.

Lorber was fined 15,000 rubles ($235), according to a statement released by the press service of St. Petersburg's courts, but was credited for time served, released and exempted from paying the fine.

Lorber will have to stay in Russia for 10 days following her release during which time she, or the government, have the right to appeal the ruling, CBS reported.” (source)

God, my heart goes out to BG. It’s heartbreaking to see her caged like an animal.

And it’s not like Russia hasn’t recently caught white people doing worse than Griner, and let them off with a gentle slap on the wrist.

Remember chirren, Vladimir Putin is as bad as, if not worse, than any American President you might rightfully hate.

And Russia is as racist against Black people as any other predominantly white country (not to mention, Putin has all but outlawed LGBTQ people with harsh anti-gay legislation).

LOL. I might lose bets on many things, and I may still get surprised sometimes, but never ever will I be surprised at, or lose a bet on white people’s inexhaustible capacity, regardless of all historical evidence, to always formulate the thought and utter the words, “this had nothing to do with race.”

At any rate… unless Griner is traded for a Russian arms dealer held in America, they’re planning on sending her to a fucking Russian penal colony for hard labor. For 9 years.

Brittney Griner and other WNBA players wouldn’t even need to play for foreign teams if they were paid more equitably here at home, but that’s a post for another time.

The most important takeaway here, for me anyway, is that nobody anywhere should ever be arrested for hashish oil or cannabis—including here in the United States. My heart also breaks at the thought of all the Black people languishing and rotting away in American prisons. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that Biden and Harris are finally fighting for Griner’s release, but it feels hella hypocritical considering how hard Biden and Harris fought for the mass incarceration of Black and Brown people, for so much of their careers. Yeah, it’s fucked.

And if you’re one of those, “she shoulda just followed the rules” trolls, please know that I genuinely and truly despise you with every fiber of my being.

Alas, there is always hope.
