Farewell to Frank Thorne, comics illustrator, who died on Sunday. Thorne’s most famous mainstream work was on Marvel’s Red Sonja, although he also worked for Dell and Gold Key early in his career and contributed significantly to DC’s non-superhero titles (Korak, Tomahawk, Weird War Tales and others). Thorne had a way with the female form, creating sexy and tough heroines in his own series Lann (published by Heavy Metal), Ribit!, and Ghita of Alizarr. Stopping for a day to address the magnificent Red Sonja art of Frank Thorne. I found issue 23 of the Savage Sword of Conan, from 1977 in a box of comics someone put out on the curb. We've been conditioned to value the slick hardness of razor sharp lines in comics , but Frank's pure drawing skill combined with his controlled use of detail is vastly underrated. His Sonja figure is about the best ever designed - athletic , attractive, feminine but not overly exaggerated. E così, il buon Frank Thorne (16 Giugno 1930 - 7 Marzo 2021) ci ha lasciato (nello stesso giorno, a distanza di poche ore, anche la moglie, Marilyn, se ne andava). Un grandissimo disegnatore. Creatore grafico del costume iconico (un bikini striminzito) di Red Sonja. E di tante eroine dantasy-erotiche. Cosplayer ante-litteram (amava vestirsi da mago alle convention dei fumetti, circondato di modelle, la sapeva lunga!). Ho sempre desiderato il volume con le storie di "Ghita di Alizarr" (1979). Sin da quando appresi della sua esistenza nelle pagine dell'"Encicolpedia dei Fumetti" della DeAgostini. Ghita è la sgualdrina-regina di Alizarr, e per quanto sia graficamente identica a Red Sonja, il suo carattere è all'estremo opposto. Red Sonja non sorride quasi mai, mentre Ghita ama divertirsi. Avete capito come (ecco un motivo per cui non condividerò immagini del fumetto all'interno del volume). Comunque, la copia recuperata su E-bay è ben tenuta. Sono stato fortunato. L'edizione è quella italiana, in bianco e nero, della Editrice Nord del 1981. Ben fatta.
