Today's song is "Simple Things" (2011) by The Tryst
Tumblr media
Review:
ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH THE INSTRUMENTALS AND VOCALS IN THIS ONE!!! This is one hundred percent a band that I'm going to return to! And it's only got 15 monthly listerners? Fucking tragic.
I've always been terrible at identifying genres but I think this is reggae? Perhaps some form of ska? Or just general jazz? Either way it's a super enjoyable combination of drums, horns, and guitar! And the singer's delightful voice is just the cherry on top:-D
Extra thoughts:
Not much to say other than I highly recommend this band from the few songs I listened to after Simple Things! But one random thought: the singer's vocals vaguely remind me of The Crane Wive's lead singer's.

so i just used forgotify for the first time, which is this website that lets you listen to random music that has never been listened to on spotify, and I fully expected some shitty songs recorded in a garage by unknown bands or something, thinking it might be fun to discover new music that way but now instead I'm listening to a beautiful concerto for harp and orchestra by a composer from the 18th centruy I'd previously never heard of and I love it so i had to share it!!

working on my most pretentious playlist yet! The criteria for this one is tracks that have less than 10,000 streams on spotify (with a few exceptions if I still think they're obscure enough). Some of these artists were recommended to me by friends and mutuals, some of them I found naturally on my own, and some I discovered through forgotify, a site that finds spotify tracks with 0 plays. it's mostly given me fuckass techno remixes or whatever but i was pretty surprised to find some interesting and decent stuff as well. if you're looking to discover something you would otherwise never hear about I encourage you to explore the artists and albums on this playlist!! I will keep adding to it so please send me your suggestions for other obscure artists!! 😁

I feel like I've stumbled across a musical corpse today.
There's a fun little tool I've been playing with—forgotify. It pulls up songs from Spotify that have no plays or no complete plays. Oftentimes the music is unremarkable but rarely bad, but sometimes, the songs simply do not play. This is one of those cases.
I pull the thread. I click the link to listen to the full song on Spotify.
The entire album is greyed out. No songs available. Clicking on the name of the artist reveals that none of their albums are available to stream. There's a link to buy a physical CD. For now, I keep looking.
I type in the name of the band—generic, and difficult to search—and one of their more specific song titles into YouTube. One relevant hit. A reupload. It sounds nice. There's a link to the band's myspace page.
I pull the thread. The page is bare bones, like all the images and text were purged. The music tab has a list of songs for one album. None of them are playable.
I check the internet archive. No dice.
Back on Spotify, I go to their merch page. They have two albums available for sale. I learn eBay has them as well. The music is not gone, just hard to find.
I couldn't tell you what actually happened to the band to make everything disappear. There is no reliable way to stream the albums.
Without physical media, many of those songs would be lost.
Remember your roots.

btw i found that band with 1 monthly listener using a site called forgotify. it generates spotify tracks that have 0 streams and it's WILD. forgotify also gave me this awesome song 👍
Yeah okay I’m definitely gonna start giving Forgetify a shot! Also BANGER…..
Aaaand I may be joining some of y’all’s lists of least popular artists listened to in a year or so.. I’m not getting all these instruments for no reason.

Today's song is "The Gate" (1993) by The Keltz
Tumblr media
Review:
This is just some very nice and gentle instrumental music:-)) Really relaxing honestly and some great flute work! I think I'd have more to say about this one if I actually knew any music theory but, for now, all I have to add is that this was some good folk(?)
Extra thoughts:
I think this is Celtic folk music?? Judging from the name of the band and the names of the musicians on the blurry album cover at least.

Forgotify picks a random song that has nearly no views from Spotify for you. Great for finding new music!
