are there any groups of reptile/specific species you personally would really like to see show up in a future game? personally speaking, the one that first comes to mind is sandfish skinks, because I think recent games showed that they could do some really fun stuff vis a vis: reflecting their irl movements

[oh, yes, i've got quite a list. i'm sure i'm missing some, because i really do love a great many species and i cannot list them all off the top of my head, but here's the ones i've written down and a few new additions i just came up with:

-the side-blotched lizard (common, i think? i've had a migraine today, forgive me if this is the wrong species). their fascinating rock-paper-scissors mating strategy opens up a possibility for a pokémon species with three morphs for males and two for females (there is overlap between the morphs, i think females are orange and yellow). please, if you look up anything on this list, let it be these. i am so fascinated by this mating strategy. it would make a great fire-water-grass trio.

-the fish-scale gecko. this gecko genus has the hilarious and slightly disturbing defense mechanism of just…getting naked when it’s upset. it drops its scales and turns into what looks like a raw piece of chicken. a signature ability for this pokémon could be one that causes it to change forms when hit by a physical attack in battle. apparently, they get naked very readily, which is kinda funny to me.

-blunthead tree snakes. reason:

-horned lizards. reason:

fuck you i cast eyeball blood.

-bush vipers (genus atheris). look, they’re just really fucking pretty and pokémon doesn’t have enough snakes and i really like these ones so please put them in the game. look them up, but be wary of photoshopped images. for some reason people really like to alter their colors online, which i don't understand because they're beautiful as is.

-moloch. it just looks cool and i like it.

-a proper whiptail lizard or mourning gecko pokémon. like salazzle, but instead of being a weird femdom mind-control fetish pokémon it’s a normal all-female lizard pokémon species.

-basilisk lizard. come on, don’t tell me you’ve never thought the water-walking lizard wouldn’t make a cool water type. inteleon doesn’t count because he sucks and also i think is mostly based on a veiled chameleon. which are a right pain to work with, by the way. they're very fragile and the one at my previous job irl was rather ill-tempered, he didn't trust any of us younger workers, so my boss did most of his care. he was like, "we're never getting another chameleon, this guy's exhausting."

-komodo dragon. out of all the monitor lizards, this is the most impressive to me. their venom, enormous stature, and cute paws have me enraptured, and i think they could make for a good poison-fighting or poison-dark type pokémon.

-snake-necked turtles. reason:

-boomslangs. one of very few rear-fanged snakes with potent enough venom to kill a human, a juvenile boomslang is responsible for one of my favorite pieces of herpetological history: the death of karl p. schmidt. schmidt was a renowned herpetologist who was sent the live juvenile for identification, i think it was. because boomslang venom wasn't as widely known in the west as it is now, and due to the fact that it was a juvenile (some stories also say that his mistake was due to it being a rear-fanged snake, which are almost all harmless), schmidt did not believe that the snake posed a threat. it bit him, and he recorded his symptoms over the next day before he collapsed and died. allegedly, he also refused treatment for his symptoms because it would interfere with his recordings, but i haven't found a source for this. i have, however, read his notes. they are very matter of fact and awfully calm considering they're all basically like "i pissed blood!" rip karl p. schmidt, you died a fucking insane death.

-bitis genus snakes. they're all so beautiful!

-hognose snakes (genus heterodon, to be clear). these cute, sassy snakes are very clear about their boundaries and are best known for their extremely dramatic fake death display (which btw you should never trigger on purpose) and their cute, upturned noses, but did you know they're also slightly venomous? hognoses are another rear-fanged colubrid, though their venom is so mild its existence was debated for a long time. my boss once allowed one to envenomate him after a mistaken feeding bite just to see what would happen (the answer is not much, even after being envenomated five times all that happened was his finger swelled up and was kind of numb). he did note the similarities between himself and schmidt afterwards. the eastern hognose's venom was apparently once thought to be a result of their diet of toxic toads, which they consume in a rather gruesome manner i won't relate here.

-bighead turtles. reason:

-softshell turtles. they're kind of douchebags, especially the spiny softshell, but i really like them!

-titanoboa. fossil pokémon idea. come on.

On Give Up Tomorrow [Paco Larranaga’s Case]

It’s already three in the morning and I just finished watching the now viral documentary of Paco Larranaga, one of the alleged suspects in the Chiong sisters’ rape slay case. The case of the Chiong sisters recently became a speculation on social media after the release of the trailer of its movie adaption entitled “Jacqueline Comes Home” and along with it was the unearthing of the documentary covering the alleged injustice experienced by one of the main suspects, Paco Larranaga.

I watched the documentary with a skeptic mind. Everyone in the comment section of the film’s trailer kept talking about the corruption of the justice system in the Philippines. It was one of the rare times I witnessed people actually “going against” a rape victim’s family. It intrigued me to the bone. Usually people would sympathize with the family. Who wouldn’t? But this was a case of two sisters who were abducted and gang-raped, one thrown into a ravine and the other gone missing. Yet people were actively criticizing and actually condemning the victims’ family, insisting that said case is the epitome of how corrupt our justice system actually is.

I researched on the case of the Chiong sisters first. There were a couple of articles on the internet, all narrating the rape-slay story of said sisters. The crime was actually described to be the worst case in Cebu hence the huge attention not only by the public, but by the former President Estrada as well. It was an interesting case, indeed. I found out Paco Larranaga was exiled to Spain where he is now serving the remainder of his life sentence.

So what was this documentary?

The documentary has been all over my news feed on Facebook. I tried to watch it a couple of times but only got to do so today. I watched it with a skeptic mind. I can’t afford to let the majority’s opinion taint my insight on the case. I was neither for the prosecution nor the defense. I was a mere curious speculator.

I initially thought the documentary alone was actually one-sided and I can’t help but regard it as biased at some point. They did interview the Chiong spouses and even the investigator who claimed Paco was one of the perpetrators. However, I can’t help but note that the documentary focused on Paco’s family so it’s but natural that they include [even intentionally curb] statements that would further the family’s cause. Although admittedly, there was that constant lingering thought of what if’s. What if? What if Paco was indeed framed?

The fact that the case was sensationalized nationwide made me think that it was indeed susceptible to frame ups although this is a mere speculation. It was repeatedly emphasized that the police were rather apprehensive to catch the perpetrators; strengthened further by the fact that even the president himself wanted in on it. I suddenly recalled the cases we discussed in my Constitutional Law II where we focused on the Bill of Rights. One striking case was Nida Blanca’s murder. There was an alleged ultimatum to the police. Thus the thought of the police going out of its way to find a suspect, regardless of who they are as long as there was someone, was not far-fetched. I had a similar feeling in Paco’s case--again, another speculation.

My scale of skepticism gradually tilted in favor of Paco as the documentary went on. Although I still find some parts of it rather problematic, because let’s face it, the media is capable of manipulating facts, that is a given. Remember framing? Anyway, the greatest plot twist was Thelma Chiong, the victims’ mother, herself. I found the documentary quite problematic in some aspects but I found Thelma Chiong even more problematic. I know I’m not in the place to conclude based on a short statement and airtime of Thelma but I seriously can’t help but think there was something up with her. This was further reinforced when I heard about the trial judge’s explanation of his verdict. I’m actually thankful I got to see the documentary after taking up Consti Law II because it exposed me to cases of partial and dismissive judges.

My thoughts are all based on the documentary so it’s apparently susceptible to mistakes but based on the judge’s explanation itself, it is quite apparent he didn’t really look into the case. There was kidnapping but no evidence of the rape so he didn’t give the Chiong 7 a death sentence? In my opinion it was a postscript excuse, the judge’s sentencing the suspects to double life sentence instead of a death penalty. He knew there would be something wrong about him giving a guilty verdict and so to "console” his self, he tried to give a “more subtle” punishment. Plus the fact that he dismissed a lot of procedural issues from the prosecution was really questionable. And the prosecutor’s theory that the photo of Paco with his friends thereby proving his alibi was merely photoshopped on the basis that Paco’s chair was black and the others’ were white and that he was the only one not looking at the camera? My goodness what a lame theory for a prosecutor!

Now on Thelma Chiong’s behavior during one particular interview. It was proven, even broadcasted by the media, that she went to visit the suspect-turned-state-witness Davidson Rusia and gave him cake, clothes, and even money. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, I really did. Naturally, a rape victim’s mother would hold a perpetual grudge against the person who ruined her child’s life. It’s even worse here because that was two of her daughters, it was a gang rape, one of them was thrown into a ravine and the other went missing. But mothers are different. Some would hold a grudge, some would want to kill their child’s rapist, some would earnestly clamor for justice, and some would actually choose to forgive. I wanted to think Thelma was one who chose to forgive and was simply grateful to Rusia because his confession played a huge role [a turning point, in the words of the trial judge] in the conviction of the accused. It was only normal for her to feel such, there was nothing wrong with it. But what I did find rather problematic was how she sensationalized Rusia. She was actually proud that they chose to make Rusia a boy-next-door in his photo in their appeal brief! Again, what. the. actual. fudge. It’s one thing to forgive the person who ruined your child’s life, that is completely understandable, but to sensationalize him? That was just plain irrational. It actually seemed like they merely wanted publicity most especially for Rusia which still perplexes me.

Although in the end, I think we still cannot base our sympathy for Paco Larranaga on the fact that even the Spanish government intervened for the alleged injustice he suffered. They may have found probable reason to conduct all means necessary for Paco’s clemency. But we also have to consider that it is only normal for them to do so because Paco is a Spanish citizen. Remember the Filipinos we fought for in Indonesia? We would really fight to the end for our fellowmen, find every reason to prove that they deserve otherwise. In my opinion it can be a similar case. Still, I can’t help but think about the what ifs. Although again, it’s just one documentary and let us not forget they did focus on Paco’s case so it is possible there was some “framing” done.

All that’s left now are more speculations. The documentary did not clear things up for me, in fact it even raised more questions. I do sympathize for the Chiong family. Regardless of how problematic I found Thelma, it is a fact that their children were raped, the other one even killed. There are theories that the corpse found may not have been Marijoy and that Jacqueline may actually be alive. But they are mere theories. Regardless of, my heart goes out to both the Chiong and Larranaga family.

All that we have are plain theories. There will always be that nagging thought of manipulation from both sides, that cannot be avoided since both would want to clear their names and obtain justice. Still, they are mere theories. I hope we don’t judge based on the documentary and film alone. Let us not choose sides. Let us not carelessly jump to conclusions. I’ve been seeing a lot of criticisms of the Chiong family, all on the basis of the Larranaga documentary alone. There might have been a rape victim, there might have been someone killed, there might have been injustice, there might have been corruption of the justice system. But all of these are just might have beens. I myself was shaken by the documentary, I admit that, still, in the end, I choose not to pick sides.

I know a lot of people will not agree with me on this, they might even say I’m plain indifferent. Well, I am. Because I’m not choosing sides. Although my scale of skepticism did tilt towards the Larranaga’s, I still prefer to remain partial until further evidences surface.

Warning: May be triggering, in particular, if you have/have had an eating disorder.

So I decided that I would do the master cleanse whilst we are on lockdown. I am aiming for 21 days, depending on my health. Lockdown will probably be extended after 3 weeks, but it may be a bit more lax. So I plan to drop 20/30 lbs in the next 2/3 weeks and then I’m going to start the 8 weeks to 30 minutes of running along with at home exercises. Probably 10lbs of the weight will be water weight. So after fasting for 21 days I’ll probably reach my goal of 20 lbs.

I find extreme workouts/diets work best for me, to give me a reset. In high school - year 11- I did it for a week, with one meal a day, to drop my baby weight fast and it reset my eating habits and everything and I was slimmmm until university. Then I gained about 10 lbs but it was still flat stomach, thin thighs so I didn’t mind. I think it was mainly muscle tbh.

Then last summer got a small bbl at the end of last year and I had to gain weight for the surgery. Then after it everyone told me to EAT to keep the fat alive. I ate like there was no tomorrow, because I didn’t want to go back to having no ass. But my fat seems to be strong because it didn’t go anywhere and I gained weight?! I’m used to having skinny legs and right now I have THIGHS!

So now I’m dropping 20/30lbs so that I can have the now attained body but on a smaller scale. I’ll post a picture of me at the moment and how I’m hoping to look after this master cleanse.

After I drop the fat I want to gain at least 10lbs of muscle. I want abs this year!

Current Body: Probably 66kg. I forgot to weigh myself before writing this. Oops. I’m 179cm (5ft 7)

OOC WEEK: Day Three

RAPID FIRE

Tea or coffee? Coffee. I seriously need a cup of coffee every morning or else my day is just bound to go to complete shit. I do like a good cup of tea, but coffee is my lover

Stars or planets? Stars

Sun or moon? Moon

Black or white? Black. Half my wardrobe is black lol I own like three pieces of clothing that are not in the grey scale

The zoo or the aquarium? The zoo. The only times I like aquariums are when they have really exotic stuff. Every aquarium I’ve been in where they’re claimed to have a shark, it’s been these tiny ones and I always get disappointed

Drama or comedy? Drama. There are very few comedies that I actually like, the typical “super funny” comedy movies just make me roll my eyes tbh. I do like some comedy TV shows, but I love a good drama more often than not

Thriller or adventure? Oh, difficult... I love fantasy which I guess kind of falls under the genre adventure. But I love a good thriller too

Short walks to the fridge or long walks on the beach? Hah, fridge. The beach means sand, and I don’t like sand in my shoes or between my toes

Indoors or outdoors? Indoors

Animals or plants? Animals

Time alone or time with others? Depends on the day, really. Some days I just really want to be alone, and other days I have to be around people. I prefer to be alone though

Introvert or extrovert? I’m introverted, but not dramatically so, just... I’m shy

Cats or dogs? Dogs

Dancing or being the wallflower? Wallflower. I’m not a good dancer, first off, I feel more comfortable not being in the middle of a crowd

LONG FORM

Pet peeves: When people start something, and don’t do the last few steps to finish it (a girl at work always starts a task and then doesn’t finish it and it annoys me so much), people interrupting me, people who places things wrong (it messes with my OCD)

Bad habits: I have this intense need to be able to get air between my front teeth, so I’ll put my nail between them and make this inhaling sound to make sure I can get air through them (safe to say I have tooth floss in my purse). I pick and chew at the skin around my fingernails

Favourite scents (your amortentia!): Lavender, vanilla, coffee

Favourite animal: CORGI!!

Favourite colour: Navy blue, or like a greenish dark blue colour

Favourite place to go (local or otherwise) (photos get bonus points): I actually really enjoy going to Ikea, also there is a restaurant in town that make the best Chicken BLT and it’s all homey and lovely, I love it, it’s named Egon

Favourite meme: Oh, the Sam Tarley (from GoT) memes, they always make me laugh. Like this one

Do you have any creative or artistic abilities? I used to spend a LOT of time creating graphics, edits and gifs in Photoshop, I guess that’s pretty artistic? Talk about something that made you happy today, yesterday, this week: I helped a customer yesterday, she wanted some good books to read, and she wanted fantasy books in English, so I showed her all my favourite series and she ended up buying like 20 books, almost emptying our shelves completely lol. And when she left with 5 bags of books, she thanked me so much for all my help and it made me feel really good about myself

Talk about an experience that made you feel proud or confident: Kind of the same as above. I felt really confident at my skills in my job, which felt great! Also, I went to see my sister and my 1 month old nephew yesterday and I feel soooo proud to be an aunt to such a beautiful little boy

Talk about something/someone that makes you feel relaxed: Reading relaxes me a whole lot. There is nothing better than escaping real life by going into a different world entirely. Also knitting, knitting relaxes me a bunch

Talk about something you’re yet to try for the first time but want to: Having a real relationship. I’ve never had a boyfriend or a girlfriend, but I’d like to see how that would be

Who are your role models and why: Emma Watson is a great role model, her work for gender equality is REALLY important and I think she’s doing a great job of it.

Talk about something you want to do this year: I want to travel to somewhere I haven’t been before. I really want to travel to Australia or America, so that is definitely on my list of things I want to do this year
