folinic was the game's first Medic That Can Hurt You!!! respect your ancestors!!! they later refined this concept into incantation medics but the big weakness of incantation medics is that they need to have enemies in range in order to heal allies which isn't the case for folinic, if there's no enemies to hit she just blasts allies instead. she won't be killing strong enemies on her own the way reed can cast explode your dick but she's great at helping thin out large numbers that threaten to overwhelm your blockers. as you can see the uptime on her skill is pretty decent and since it's splash attacks that prioritise enemies she can reach allies that are blocking enemies just outside her range with it or just pull double duty as aoe healer for a bit

s2 is the one people usually think of when they remember folinic exists but her s1 is actually strong as fuck and it scales really hard with masteries too i just haven't gotten around to that yet, it upgrades to two extra tiles of range at m1 and goes all the way to +80% atk for 30sp at m3. it has good uptime it very straightforwardly jacks up her healing and it gives you a lot more leeway with positioning because of the huge range it gives her, criminally underrated skill she's just straight up a strong medic even without her funny meme skill

folinic by default has status resistance and reduced damage from environmental effects for herself and with her module she gets the unique niche of being able to extend that reduced environmental damage to other team members, meaning you have much less healing pressure from things like poison mist and sandstorms just by having her on the field and you can cover even more allies with it through her s1 range extension. i actually have no idea if this also works on tile effects like active originum or nethersea brand i should experiment with that sometime but the status resistance alone already makes her more reliable than her colleagues when there's another fucking ice altar stage or something

folinic is a fucking god in the workshop she can make you 24 tier 2 mats in one sitting she's worth the e2 for this alone honestly

Lillia (Louisa/Folinic's mom) and Astrov have one of the funniest relationships in Arknights to me because like. We don't know that much about Astrov but the impression I get of him is that he's a decently nice guy, quite idealistic, and somewhat naive. Meanwhile there's Lillia, who is a murderous girlboss driven by vengeance who is willing to leave her daughter without any parents for the sake of revenge and says insane shit like "I've told you, Kal'tsit, what I want isn't a fair trial. To make it clear, what I long for is a lynching." I generally care about m/f pairings very little but I do like this one because it's what I consider to be the ideal m/f dynamic: Sort of naive and a bit of a pushover "just some guy" man x absolutely unhinged girlboss woman.

Also Lillia and Kal'tsit were definitely fucking.

what are your thoughts on folinic, considering that she was the protagonist of arknights' first leithanien event? she's such a loaded character i love her so much and it's so sad how underrated she is imo

Alright, keeping in mind that it has Been A Hot Minute since I reread that event and thus may be forgetting specific details...

I do like her, and her story is quite interesting! I do LOVE medics who face conflicts over their duty to heal and how it pertains to harm; Folinic being the first Medic in Arknights to hurt enemies too (the next one being her mentor Kal'tsit) is already conceptually a lot of fun, but to read her records and realize she first considered a full combat class? Like she was willing to be a sniper if need be? Ooof, my girl.

Then you dig into her story, and that of her mother (whose story in Walk in the Dust I actually read before Twilight of Wolumonde). Her mother, burning so deeply with revenge that she left her family behind in order to pursue it. Folinic being so consumed by her anger and trauma - and in ToW, her mission to find Atro's murderer - and how hard that pushes against her role not only as a healer, but a representative of Rhodes Island, itself a pharmaceutical company and bastion for the Infected.

It's noted in her trust file that Folinic doesn't have hobbies. She only has her work, activities for self-improvement, and exhausting herself to sleep...and, under it all, her anger. This anger seeps out even when she doesn't mean to, such as her dialogue as the Doctor's assistant. Yet her end goal is still to help. She wants to protect everyone she cares for, even if she bloodies her hands to do so, because as she says, "No problem, I can handle some psychological burden."

And the more I think about her, the more I have to wonder...

Is there any way for her to ever truly know peace?

I've been playing since the global server launched! (started a couple days after launch but it still counts i think :3)

My favorite character is my dearest Whisperain (story appearance when), and my other faves are W, Lappland, Kal'tsit, my otp Skadi & Specter, + Shining and Nightingale!
