Moon Ring - March 2024 I have some idiot reving a dune buggy to thank for this image. Kathy and I could hear someone revving and popping a dune buggy or perhaps a motorcycle so I went outside to see who was doing what. As I went out the door I was looking directly at the moon shining through a light layer of clouds. And there was a ring around the moon. What causes such rings is a subject of much debate among physicists and astronomers, but they are beautiful. I have seen them several times, but this is the first one I have seen that is formed in a layer of visible clouds. MWM

Chapter 10 of Possible-y Utah
Chapter 10 - Lunchtime at BN
(June 9, 2006, 12:45pm)
Kim, Monique, Tara and Ron, with Rufus, entered into the Middleton Bueno Nacho for their usual summer lunch.
Ron was in his usual outfit. Monique was in khaki overalls with both straps hooked, black booties, hoop earrings, and a violet top. Kim was wearing a striped croptop shirt, stud earrings, a gold chain necklace, and her famed Club Banana dark-denim baggy cargo overalls, also with both straps hooked, and sneakers. Tara was in a denim jumpsuit with a gold necklace and pink sneakers on.
"This is it. Our last meal together for the next two weeks!" Kim exclaimed. "So we gotta make this count."
Tara smirked, "You know pretty much what I usually order from Bueno Nacho!"
"Taco salad, light on the meat, Thousand Island dressing!" Kim remembered.
"You got it!" Tara replied, smiling.
"Who's going to order first?" Ron asked.
"Since we usually take turns ordering as a group, I would say that Monique orders first!" Kim suggested.
Monique went to the counter first where Ned was there.
"Welcome to Bueno Nacho, loyal senors and senoras. How may I help you on this muy bueno day?"
"Let's see, two chimmeritos and a small Naco for me..."
Kim then was next.
"A Caesar Fiesta Chicken Salad, light on the Caesar please."
Then came Tara's turn.
"Taco salad for me, light on the meat with Thousand Island Dressing."
And finally, came Ron.
"Two Nacos, grande-size, with extra Diablo sauce and extra cheese! And four medium-sized sodas."
Rufus squeaked, "Si!"
"Okay, that'll be $18.14!" Ned said, telling them of the price.
Monique paid him a fresh $20 and the four teens (and naked mole rat) took to the usual booth where Kim and Ron would normally sit.
"So are you pretty packed, girl, for your SFV?" Monique asked while also throwing in a Monique-speak acronym.
"SFV?" Tara asked.
"Summer family vacation." Monique replied with the translation to the blonde cheerleader.
"At least it's not a Stoppable Family Vacation, Monique." Ron interjected. "Need I remind you of the worst trip I ever went on with my 'rents?"
"Oh no, Ron..." Kim muttered.
"What worse trip would that be?" Tara asked.
"A few years ago..." Ron began, "...my parents borrowed the infamous Stoppable-mobile from Aunt Josephine..."
"The very same aunt who took Ron to Wannaweep..." Kim muttered.
"Wait...what is the Stoppable-mobile?" Tara asked.
"Minivan from the early 90s." Kim uttered.
"Pea-green with fake wood paneling on it...had a few dents in it from an accidents." Ron added.
"You could easily spot it in a parking lot full of cars." Kim said while sipping on her soda.
"But I digress. We went to Kansas to see the World's Largest Ball of Twine when we came to a very bumpy road that led there." Ron explained, "I got carsick earlier in the day..."
"Okay, Ron, we do not need to hear the gorchy deets about that!" Kim exclaimed.
"Ron, hello? We are about eat food, mind you!" Monique groaned.
"Understood, KP and Monique!" Ron replied.
"Ah, here's our food now!" Tara exclaimed, seeing the BN tray on the edge of the counter. She grabbed the tray and headed towards the booth.
(15 minutes later)
"So what do you think Utah would be like?" Tara asked while eating her salad. "I've never been there before."
"I have for a few missions." Kim replied, dipping the taco meat and lettuce into the Caesar, "It's actually quite nice with a lot of natural beauty to it. That's the reason why the 'rents wanted to celebrate 20 years after Dad proposed to Mom."
"But don't you need an RV for that if you and the fam are going to be out for two weeks?" Monique asked.
"Monique's got a point." Ron added, sipping on his extra sugary soda while Rufus was being bathed with nacho cheese.
"I've been to Bryce Canyon with my fam a year ago so you're looking at a good 9-hour drive from here, girl." Monique said, finishing up one of her chimmeritos.
"Yeah. I think I should talk with my dad about the transportation sitch." Kim replied. "The minivan can only seat seven. And we are at the brim with Rufus."
While the four teens were eating, they did not notice an inconspicuous ladybug on the window.

TEXAS
2022 Apr 15 (Fri) – We drove to Palo Duro Canyon.  It is reputed to be a little Grand Canyon.  The scenery was lovely.  Going up the curving mountain roads, heading down to the canyon bottom, hiking some of the trails.  It was all great.  And I learned something new!  In Utah, Nevada, Arizona and Colorado we have seen mountain sides that change in colors as the layers of the earth are exposed.  The layers run horizontally and usually in individual formations.  Texas call those layer formations Spanish Skirts.  This is because the rock layers and angled slopes mimic a colonial Spanish lady’s flowing, striped skirt.  Makes sense.
Tumblr media
After the Canyon, we stopped at WalMart to pick up some DEF for the truck and rugs for the RV.  We’ve been looking for a while ever since Bonnie had an accident and we had to throw out the rug.  We finally found something nice as well as runners for the kitchen and a runner for the bedroom.  Paul doesn’t like the produce at WalMart so we left to find a supermarket somewhere else.  Unfortunately, they were all of a Mexican persuasion – Amigos, Fiesta Foods, etc.  We wound up going back to WalMart.  On the way back to the campground, we stopped to fuel up for tomorrow’s move.
2022 Apr 14 (Thu) – We went to the Jack Sisemore Traveland RV Park.  It was a collection of old camping trailers, cars and motorcycles.  Jack Sisemore was a racer and collected all the items that were on display.  We were able to look inside the old campers and marvel at how things have changed over the years.
Tumblr media
Next stop was at the Texas Air & Space Museum.  They used to have the entire hangar but the company they rent the space from took most of it back and the museum is now squeezed into a corner of the hangar.  There were 2 planes inside that were formerly in the military.  Other artifacts were crammed into the area.  After the docent told us about the collection inside, he took us outside to the tarmac where several other planes were parked.  We were able to climb into a couple of them.  One, you had to climb through the loading hatch and another, you could climb right up the stairs.  One of the aircraft reminded me of the C-130s I used to fly when I was stationed in Iraq.  We found some D-Day bags that we could give to our members during the WWII Reenactment Caravan in June.  We bought all the bags they had – all four.  It would have been nice if they had ten.  Oh, well.  We’ll give them as prizes.
Tumblr media
After the two museums, we went to Tyler’s Barbecue for lunch.  It was listed as #3 of 349 in Amarillo.  It is a well-deserved ranking.  I had ribs and Paul had brisket.  Everything was very good.
2022 Apr 13 (Weds) – Since we only had 120 miles to go today, we left a little later than usual; at 10:15 a.m.  The drive was only 2 hours from Tucumcari, NM to Amarillo, TX.  We went through a time change from Mountain to Central Time.  The campground is old and needs some TLC.  There are 3 rows of RVs, many of them are long-term residents.  The office was closed with notes on the door.  One noted the cost per night.  Another note gave instructions to put a check or cash in an envelope and drop it in the box.  The WiFi password was also posted on the door.  COVID might have caused this initially, but I think someone is now just plain taking advantage of not reporting to the office.
We drove in and chose a pull-through site.  We have full hook-ups, which is nice since we have no sewer at the Elks Lodge.  The entire surface of the campground is packed dirt.  Our site is uneven, and Paul had to use blocks to level the trailer.
Bonnie has diarrhea again.  It was boiled chicken and rice for her tonight. *sigh*  At least there are no goats heads here.

Porky Pet - March 2024 It is not uncommon to see people walking their pets at Fiesta Grande RV Park. I have even seen several cats who walk without struggling on a leash. This was the first time, however, that I saw someone walking a Potbellied Pig. She said that it spends most of the time in her back yard, but occasionally comes into the house. MWM

Pink Cactus Flower This Pink Cactus Flower is also in Fiesta Grande RV Park. It is also some form of Prickly Pear Cactus but all of the flowers– at least all that had begun to bloom– were this cotton candy pink. MWM

Yellow Cactus Flower - March 2023 Prickly Pear Cactus are a rather common yard plant here at Fiesta Grande RV Park. These plants receive just the right amount of water and bloom very well every year. This Yellow Cactus Flower caught my attention for its beauty and for the fact that the same plant was bearing pure yellow flowers as well as an almost orange flower. I’ve seen both colors before, but not on the same cactus. MWM

April 28, 8:00 am Fence Lizard - March 2024 I was coming home from the store and had just gotten out of the car when I spotted this little Fence Lizard. I didn’t have my regular cameras on me, but used my phone for a couple of quick images. The Plateau Fence Lizard is called that because it tends to be found on fence posts, etc. In this case it was on the block and rail fence between my site and the permanent park unit next door. The second image is to give a better perspective of this little lizard’s size. MWM

April 24, 8:00 am Sweet Acacia Tree - March 2024 This beautiful Sweet Acacia Tree (Acacia farnesiana) grows in a deep swail on the Northwest corner of Fiesta Grande RV Park. The swail is behind a row of park models and isn’t visible unless you go down the dead-end road to the maintenance building. I hadn’t noticed the tree earlier because it sort of blended in to everythiung else down there. But then it began to blossom. The yellow, puffy blossoms are really eye catching and there is a slight, sweet frangrance near the tree. Judging from the number of buds visible in the second image, the tree should be blossoming for quite a while. The third image is of the top of one of the branches. Since it is in sunlight, more of the buds have blossomed. MWM

Texas Mountain Laurel - March 2024
I was riding my bicycle at Fiesta Grade RV Park when I saw this tree with beautiful, but weird, purple flowers. I took several images of it and finally found it on the internet. It is a Texas Mountain Laurel (Dermatophyllum secundiflorum), and the weird, flat, waxy flowers are called Grape Bubblegum Flowers. There was a slight smell of grape near the tree, so the name must be more than just appearance. MWM

Rising Moon - October 2023 We spent a few days at Catalina State Park near Tucson, Arizona, while we got things ready to leave the RV at Fiesta Grande and drive back to Iowa in the Jeep. While there, I was able to capture this marvelous image of the moon rising over the Catalina mountains. There are three images of the moon and the mountain and one very zoomed-in image of the full moon. That was, by the way, the view out of the window over my desk in our RV. MWM

Barrel Cactus with Fruit - January 2022 For the next couple of months we will be staying at the Fiesta Grande RV Park in Casa Grande, Arizona. Most of the nearly 800 sites in the park are occupied with “Park Units” which are basically trailer homes permanently set on the sites. Many of the residents carefully cultivate various cacti or orange trees to add a little color to their homes. My wife took this image of a rather large barrel cactus with its fruit still in place. They blossom in April and the fruit appears shortly thereafter. In the desert itself, the various critters would have long since cleared off the yellow, pineapple-shaped fruits, but here in the city there are much better choices for food. MWM
