Ask Real Nice Pt4
Tumblr media
This is over 4k now and I just don't know how this happens. This was a drabble ffs.
Anyway it starts here if this is your first rodeo. Tess Lives, Jackson years, Tommy kidnapped, Maria POV.
Now and again, Maria saw markers of bygone days. They must have been following some established track, maybe this was Dog Creek or some other connecting to it. But the forest was quick to claim back all ways once cloven. Maria imagined that, without the Rangers and the hikers, this path would have vanished within Year One of Cordyceps. Now, all that showed it had been there at all was the occasional educational plaque sharing information about wildlife that might be spotted in the forest.
She glanced at every plaque on the way, collecting creatures, filling her mind with fur and feathers in an effort to smother her fear. Every step brought them closer to Tommy, and whatever that meant for the rest of their lives. It was growing harder to stamp down on the emerging panic.
Maria didn’t remember feeling anything like this - maybe not even since the early days.  It was a slow, creeping panic, the kind that crawled out of her pores and dominated her senses, slowly.  Like Cordyceps, this panic would own her eventually.  It was starting to claim her even now.  She could not be expected to remain this rational for too much longer.
Joel held up his hand and the little rescue party came to a stop.
"Tosh," he said. "Go on ahead. Quiet. The camp's not far now. You know you're close when you cross the stream. Patrick will go with you just that far."
Maria watched the pair head quietly down the lost track.  She rode up to Joel’s good side and forced measured breaths into cramping lungs.
"That's the hardest thing I ever had to learn to do," said Maria as Patrick's back disappeared.
"What's that?" Answered Joel, grim.
"Delegate."
He looked at her, eyebrows raised in slight surprise.  He shifted slightly in the saddle.
"Yeah, well … I ain't as young as I used to be."
A sticky silence fell between them.  Maria, realising she couldn’t count on conversation from Joel to save her - he was notoriously stingy with his words, what was the thinking - checked the load on her pistol.
"But Tommy is. He's still young. Strong. Still got enough fight in him to be a pain in the ass,”  Joel coughed slightly.
"Is this your way of telling me he'll be all right?"
"I gotta give you some … you've held it together better than most people might."
Maria stared right ahead, the leather reins biting into her palm. "I have a community to manage."
“Yeah, you do everything for the good of Jackson,” Joel muttered.
"I guess I haven't been tested like this before," she continued, because talking to Joel was better than waging the war in her head. She deliberately ignored the bait.  "I've lost people, same as everyone else here. But to have them taken? Withheld?" She shook her head slightly. "This is … different.  Feels different.”
“Sentimentality is our currency.”
“Did you make that up?”
“No, not me.”
Maria was running out of space for small talk.  Her heart had begun to knock sharply against her ribs.  “Tell me the truth.  What are his chances?”
Joel looked at her properly for the first time since they set out.  “Good,” he evenly replied.  “They’re good, Maria.  Assumin’ Tommy hasn’t done anything stupid out here, he should be just fine.  They need him.”
“But not all of him,” Maria went on, unable to stop herself. “They want to show us they’re serious, right?  What better way to show us they’re serious?”
Joel glanced at the others, who were keeping watch, and nudged his horse a little closer to hers.  He leaned forward across the saddle to speak.
“You’re thinkin they’ve been askin’ him.  Nicely.”
Maria worked her chin but said nothing.  She could not give real weight to the words in case it gave them the power to really be.
“Maybe,” Joel admitted, hushed. “But you see, Maria … thing about askin’ real nice is making sure they know how reasonable you really are.”
“Reasonable?”  That did not at all fit with any narrative of torture that Maria thought she knew.
“Reasonable.”  Joel sat back, looking off the way Tosh and Patrick had gone.  “Everyone talks under pain, Maria.  Everyone thinks they won’t - but they do.  And my brother ain’t stupid.  He knows how it works.”  His voice had taken on a lower, more sinister register. “Yeah, Tommy’s alive because he knows what to say.”
Her raging heart began to relax, beating with new, sensible purpose.
Tosh and Patrick returned with their report.  There were just three, as were promised.  They had a perimeter set of string and cans and within, there were three small tents arranged in a circle about the remains of a cookfire.  They had sighted Tommy lying on the ground.  A nervous glance at Maria and careful chosen words told her it wasn’t good.
Joel settled his gaze on her.  “You want more hostages?”
“No.”
“Good.  This is what we’re gonna do.”

AITA for sabotaging Humanity's chance for survival?
Tw: Child Death
I, J(51,M) lost my daughter S at a young age while we were trying to escape from a cordyceps infection outbreak in our city. Twenty years after her death, the world has been transformed to a place full of people infected with the fungus - which can spread easily via bites or scratches or even something as simple as a spore. There is no cure yet so far. I and my partner T(51,F) were given a task by an associate M(40s, F) to deliver this girl E (14F) to a camp of a group I'll refer to as The FFS for anonymity, because E is immune to the cordyceps infection (E was bitten along with her friend R while they were exploring an abandoned mall; R turned, but E remained unaffected) and M believes that E could be the potential savior of the world.
We travelled across the entire country, and I lost T and some more people I'd met along the way, either to the infection, or to humans. I myself was grievously injured on an occasion and E had to nurse me back to health.
Somehow we managed to find the camp, and it turned out the reason E was immune was because the cordyceps in her brain had evolved, but to find a cure, the "doctors" there would have to extract it, which obviously meant that they'll have to kill E to make that happen. I had grown to care for E as my own daughter, and I refused to let that happen. I tried to convince M, but to no avail. Being left with no other option, I escaped from my bounds, and somehow managed to find E, killing everyone else who dared to cross me, including the "doctor" who was the one supposed to be operating on her. On our way out, I was confronted by M, who told me to reconsider my decision to jeopardize the world in such a way. I, of course, refused and killed M so that she could not come after E.
I lied to E about what truly happened there: that they'd already found some immune people just like her, but it turned out that there was no cure. I took her with me to my brother's community and we've been living there ever since.
So, AITA for prioritizing the life of a girl I'd come to care for as a daughter over the entire world, and lying to her about what truly happened?
Edit: E found out what happened and she thinks I should have let the doctor kill her to find the cure. I disagree on two grounds: firstly, E was unconscious while they were planning to operate on her, and secondly, there was only a small chance that the cure would've been successful. I was not going to sacrifice E's life for something that had a minor chance of working, regardless of how it affected the rest of the world. If I was given the chance to go back, I'd do the same thing all over again.

Medic's Shack
A small house resided by Cordyceps, Chishui Moth Tea and Century Egg. It is located in Light Kingdom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cordyceps and Chishui Moth Tea have been experimented by a society of the black robe people. Causing their bodies to grow vines inside them and losing their senses. When Cordyceps overheard the two researches about another subjects being experimented with the same attendant who sold him, he automatically unleash his power threathening those researchers. Guiding him to his sisters prison and saved her, also releasing some other food souls and floofs that have been captured. They entered this unknown underground palace. As they were escaping, they stumble upon a dead end and a figure covered with incantations, was kneeling next to a tomb. A food souls who looks like been sealed ages in this underground. The black robe people catch up to them. With the help of the food souls who have been released by Cordyceps, they defeated the humans. As they exited the underground palace, the holy woman awaits to them. That woman, draped in thin garments and standing bewitchingly, knew the man before her was no longer the gentle and gullible person she witnessed in their first meeting. But she's not there to capture them, but to give compensation ordered by the holy master.
The holy woman is also a food souls named Chicken Strip Soup.
Hibiscus Tea as the controlled Holy Lord in Holy Church, he becomes friends with Cordyceps and secretly alliances.
The trio then settled at the place arranged by Chicken Strip Soup. Just like the siblings dreamed, it was a beautiful wooden shack. It wasn't far from the countryside; the place was quiet and they could still get into contact with the outside world.

His former master was a reincarnation of Xuan Wu, one of the four gods of the Light Kingdom and the first person to bring the kingdom under a single rule. Xuan Wu was a fierce and ambitious person whose sole confidant was Century Egg, and upon Xuan Wu’s death, without Century Egg’s consent, Xuan Wu ordered that Century Egg be walled up in the tomb with him, so that Century Egg would always be by his side. Because Food Souls are immortal, Century Egg was trapped in this darkness for hundreds of years, during which time his entire mind collapsed in despair. After being accidentally saved by Cordyceps and Chishui Moth Tea, he finally saw a ray of light. His long period of confinement left him ignorant of the world, only able to robotically heed the instructions of this light (Cordyceps). He saw him as the light of his soul.
Century Egg swore allegiance to Cordyceps after being rescued by him.

I reread century egg's voice lines and i think i can sorta see what you mean, his voice lines are basically "please don't leave me please don't leave me I'm scared.", but what about his link skill teammate cordyceps? Based on his voice lines he is kinda yandere too
First off imma say it now this man
Tumblr media
Is gorgeous!
Second I took a look and I see it to, I see a very possessive, protective and manipulative yandere. It states in his boi that he has a very protective streak. His voice lines also hint that he likes touch from the Attendant. Also is sounds like he might be sadistic towards others he doesn't like.
Tumblr media
Said it once I'll say it again, we stan pretty yandere boys! I see the potential it's there now him and century egg sharing a darling, now that's a thought to toss around.

Sooooo Century Egg x Cordyceps
His previous Master Attendant was one of the reincarnations of Xuanwu, one of the four gods of Light Kingdom, and the first to unite the people of Light Kingdom. Xuanwu’s only trusted advisor was Century Egg and as a result, he had Century Egg confined within his tomb after his passing, without considering Century Egg’s own wishes. He did so out of a desire to keep Century Egg always by his side, even after death. As Food Souls are immortal, Century Egg was left trapped and alone in the dark for centuries, causing his mental state to disintegrate out of despair. Accidentally saved by Cordyceps and Chisui Moth Tea, he finally saw the light again. Because of his long imprisonment, Century Egg forgot the ways of the world. He merely follows the instructions of his light (Cordyceps) like a machine, viewing him as the light of his heart.
Century Egg imprisoned by his Master Attendant and saved by Cordyceps! He seems to have a weak spot for him after Cordyceps accidentally rescues him, even going so far as to call him the light of his life. How cute! And Cordyceps really only likes Century

I kept on telling myself that I’m not so fussed about the event as I don’t have a good team for the boss fights. Yet here I am, several gems poorer than just yesterday.
