All battles are fought by scared men who'd rather be someplace else. Jerry Goldsmith - In Harm's Way - Original Soundtrack (1965) Don't skip - Liz In Harm's Way Underrated track - Change Of Command So this is honestly a GRAIL for me. In Harm's Way is my all time favorite movie...I know, weird, but hear me out. I love war movies, and this one just caught my eye at a young age, maybe 5 or so, on a Sunday afternoon TV matinee when I was home sick. I just fell in love with it. And honestly is just a killer cast too...John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Kurt Douglas, Patricia Neal, Burgess Merideth and young actors Larry Hagman and Carroll O'Connor. But even beyond that, I remember being young and just in awe of how the music seemed to make the movie move along. As with all Otto Preminger movies, music wasn't for the background. He used the music along with long sections of action without dialog to set the tone. And I just love the music to this movie...but have never seen it on vinyl until now. Thanks to @dalesrecordsandskateshop for being awesome and having this great copy in a bargain bin. It's one of those albums that the sentimental will always outweigh the actual monetary value. But anyways...you should watch the movie and listen to this soundtrack...you won't be sorry! #soundtrack #inharmsway #fattyvinylsession #discogs #vinyl #vinygram #vinylcommunity #audiotechnica #recordoftheday #recordcollector #vinyljunkie #nowplaying #nowspinning #igvinyl #vinyladdict #instavinyl #onmyturntable #vinyllove (at Chateau Ruff N Baker City Deux) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqYN-3LOn3_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Inch your way through dead dreams to another land. Grateful Dead - The Very Best Of The Dead (2021 Limited Edition CODA Picture Disc #211/500) Don't skip - Hell In A Bucket (The Oakland Stadium, CA, USA - July 24, 1987) Underrated track - Brokedown Palace (Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, CA, USA - June 21, 1989) with Clarence Clemmons Add time goes on, I've started to collect more of these strange pressings from Europe. This is an unofficial limited release of songs from 1987-90. Honestly I booby it because this was the timeframe of when I got on the bus, and heading these reminds me of those days, finding my tribe and just letting the music roll roll roll. The quality of the recording isn't perfect, and there are a lot of audible pops throughout that I can't get rid of...also one skip that I can't even tell if is actually a skip on the vinyl, or recorded skip. But that's what you get with unofficial releases. In any case, these have become some of my go to versions of songs like Touch Of Grey and Hell In A Bucket. And the shows they come from, especially that Shoreline 89 show, have started getting a lot of play on re:Listen. But I'm not going to go on about nuances, etc. Instead I'll say as a fan is fun to hear...and Brent sounds so incredibly good on this. If you don't know the band, this is a good late career starter. #gratefuldead #bootleg #fattyvinylsession #discogs #vinyl #vinygram #vinylcommunity #audiotechnica #recordoftheday #recordcollector #vinyljunkie #nowplaying #nowspinning #igvinyl #vinyladdict #instavinyl #onmyturntable #vinyllove (at Chateau Ruff N Baker City Deux) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqWOKhXu5ZS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

So I rarely post on here now about vinyl...BUT... LOOK AT THIS!!! Got home from Palm Springs and this was waiting on me...the Amazon Exclusive Depeche Mode Memento Mori crystal clear 3 side plus an etched 4th side. This is probably one of the most beautifully packaged albums I've ever gotten. And I'm already totally in live with this with written homage to Andy Fletcher. The whole album, the artwork and the packaging all leads back to the dark hole that his death left in these two...it's just so beautiful. It is anything but 'est vere malus' (Fletch's favorite self depicting answer to how want DM show went). Even outside of the obvious importance of this album to fans, the details and dedication that Martin and Dave put into this is beyond impressive. #fattyvinylsession #ruff_time_vinyl #depechemode #mementomori #estveremalus #beautifulalbum (at Chateau Ruff N Baker City Deux) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqUTFf2tcCs/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I lose myself like anybody else. INXS - Listen Like Thieves (1985) Don't skip - This Time Underrated track - Kids The Dirt (Falling Down The Mountain) It's no secret that I love INXS. They were such a major part of my early teen years, and continue to be. There's just something so special about them. The tour for this album was my first time seeing them, at the Township Auditorium...I just recently found the ticket stub. And I remember thinking that Michael Hutchence and thinking he was THE COOLEST guy I'd ever seen. He had a way of making every person feel like he was looking deep into them whenever he was on stage. But most important to me was the music. I don't skip anything on this album...even Three Sisters, which sounds a lot like a rip off of the whole Seven And The Ragged Tiger album mixed all into a single song. This Time and Listen Like Thieves went on every mix tape for a solid year after I got the album. But the real stand out songs are the deep cuts. One X One and Red Red Sun are two of the best album closers ever...it leaves you pumped up to hear more. And Biting Bullets is just a perfect rocker. And that chorus...same with This Time as well as What You Need. And I won't even mention the whole crush on Andrew thing...I mean because I had THE BIGGEST CRUSH on him...just so adorable. I'll stop now so you can go listen to it...go on, get at it... #80s #inxs #fattyvinylsession #discogs #vinyl #vinygram #vinylcommunity #audiotechnica #recordoftheday #recordcollector #vinyljunkie #nowplaying #nowspinning #igvinyl #vinyladdict #instavinyl #onmyturntable #vinyllove (at Chateau Ruff N Baker City Deux) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp0YV2qOrCH/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I thought the plane was goin' down. Taylor Swift - Midnights (2022 Blood Moon Marble edition) Don't skip - Maroon Underrated track - Karma / Labyrinth So first off...I'm not a Swifty...I'm what is referred to as a Folker since I discovered her through Folklore and Evermore. And I'm OK with that. Going to say first off, I prefer Folk/Ever over this one, but mainly because of the more apparent work with Desner. Now the 3am version of this album contains 3 more songs that I would say are as good as anything on the previous two albums...but they aren't on vinyl yet. I'm sure at point she will releasethem........and I'll buy it...😔 As far as what is on the album, I can't say any of it is bad. I didn't have the visceral reaction to it that I did before, but pretty much every song is one I'll listen to. This album is definitely less folk tinged, but not in a bad way. Even the songs like Anti-Hero and Bejeweled in all their electronic splendor don't feel overly produced and still feel warm. And let's talk about the variants...Blood Moon, Moonstone, Mahogany, Jade and Lavender Haze...SO PRETTY! I have all but the Lavender Target exclusive, but mainly because these were included in the Walmart $10 album sale before Xmas last year. So if you aren't already burned out on Anti-Hero or Bejeweled, give it a spin. #pop #taylornation #taylorswift #fattyvinylsession #discogs #vinyl #vinygram #vinylcommunity #audiotechnica #recordoftheday #recordcollector #vinyljunkie #nowplaying #nowspinning #igvinyl #vinyladdict #instavinyl #onmyturntable #vinyllove (at Chateau Ruff N Baker City Deux) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpxoqbKuqv6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

This won't be no damn walk in no damn park. John Grant - Grey Tickles, Black Thoughts (2015) Don't skip - Snug Slacks Underrated track - Disappointing Let me start with saying that John Grant gives the absolute best hugs ever. Now onto the album. John Grant is one of my favorite musical discoveries of the 2010's. Someone sent me a link to his Queen Of Denmark album in like 2011. I thought it was really good, but it didn't completely click, except Marz and Jesus Hates Faggots. Then came Pale Green Ghosts with the immediately catchy GMF and the serenely perfect Glacier. And I was completely hooked. When this album came out, it immediately turned me on. First, hero worship in the fact he got Budgie from Siouxsie to play drums (and your with him, resulting in me having a conversation with him at a bar in Chicago between sets). Plus he has guest vocals from Amanda Palmer, Fiona Brice and Tracey Thorn. I mean he really want for it. For the songs, they aren't singular, and instead feel like a cycle. Grey Tickles is one of his most intense songs to me, with deeply personal lyrics. He had revealed his HIV status in 2012; and the song Ernest Borgnine was his first time writing about it. Grey Tickles was poignant in the lyric: 'I can't believe I missed New York during the 70's I could have gotten a head start In the world of disease I'm sure I would have contracted Every single solitary thing' It's both heart breaking and wonderfully cathartic to hear. The whole album is filed with his honesty tinged with his almost humorous lyrics. He's definitely not self absorbed...more like self aware. And as hilariously as he writes, the depth of the subjects just keep building. I mean there's a reference to knitting with Hitler in You & Him. So it's all pop melodies and deep dark lyrics...and it just works. Definitely give this album a listen. Also check out the video for Disappointing...cupcakes and bears...oh my. #indierock #johngrant #fattyvinylsession #discogs #vinyl #vinygram #vinylcommunity #audiotechnica #recordoftheday #recordcollector #vinyljunkie #nowplaying #nowspinning #igvinyl #vinyladdict #instavinyl #onmyturntable #vinyllove (at Chateau Ruff N Baker City Deux) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpvDsr4OhWa/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

And every time it's you, it's like the blood on the stairs is sent away. The Cure - BBC Sessions 1979-1985 (2020) Don't skip - A Forest / Piggy In The Mirror Underrated track - Primary / Forever OK...so The Cure is my favorite group...yadda yadda...first time I heard...yadda yadda...OMG...yadda yadda... So now that's out of the way. Here's an 'unofficial' release of seven different Peel Sessions and BBC recordings mostly from 79-81. But also one each from 82, 84 and 85. And the lineup was Robert and Lol, but also includes Mathieu Hartley, Simon Gallup, Andy Anderson, Norman Fisher-Jones and Boris Williams. The songs go from the fully formed to just sketches. Also songs like Forever and Desperate Journalist In Ongoing Meaningful Review Situation really only appeared once and thankfully were captured. The quality of a lot of the recordings was not great...but it's more about the recording for posterity. If you get a chance to listen to this, do it. It's definitely not perfect, but it's pretty great. #alternativemusic #thecure #fattyvinylsession #discogs #vinyl #vinygram #vinylcommunity #audiotechnica #recordoftheday #recordcollector #vinyljunkie #nowplaying #nowspinning #igvinyl #vinyladdict #instavinyl #onmyturntable #vinyllove (at Chateau Ruff N Baker City Deux) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpsfyNbOAD5/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

It's funny, honey, but you don't care. The Cars - Candy-O (1979) Don't skip - Let's Go Underrated track - Dangerous Type Oh the sounds of my first real 'away camp' in 1980. It was a month long nerd camp at Western Carolina University. We stayed in the dorms and got to eat at the campus dining hall, did classes and most importantly, got to hang out at the old student union and the area around it. One of the places was a weird head shop type place that sold vinyl and cassette tapes...and this was my first purchase there on cassette. I thought it was the coolest thing with the woman on the hood of the car, but not for the woman, for the style of drawing her in detail and the car as a line sketch...what a confusing time it was. But that Vargas painting...it gave me all kinds of cred with the male campers. And I think at one point I even had a poster of it, but again it was for the art and not the subject. Then I listened to the tape, which by now I knew Let's Go from the radio, but for the most part was new to me. And it has ended up being one of my favorite albums. I love Heartbeat City and later records, but this will always be my favorite album of theirs. It is still raw, but you can hear where they were going. It's All I Can Do and Dangerous Type became instant favorites, and I just can't help singing along to Candy-O. I don't think I ever skip any songs when I listen, which says a lot. So give this one a spin...I definitely enjoyed my morning listen. #newwave #thecars #fattyvinylsession #discogs #vinyl #vinygram #vinylcommunity #audiotechnica #vinycollector #that33rpmlife #recordcollector #vinyljunkie #nowplaying #nowspinning #igvinyl #vinyladdict #instavinyl #onmyturntable #vinyllove (at Chateau Ruff N Baker City Deux) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpp_3RvOSm2/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The man who walked across his heart, was doomed to journey to the start. XTC - Skylark ING (1986 (corrected polarity 2010 master Ape House 2018 repress on 200g with Mermaid Smiled included) Don't skip - Summer's Cauldron Underrated track - The Man Who Sailed Around His Soul Ok...a lot to unpack here. Yes I love this album. Got it because of the video for Dear God, but already had copies of English Settlement and Black Sea (thank you Kelly wherever you are). I have several versions on tape and CD that all have different track orders and songs...my first tape had Dear God, broke it and the replacement didn't. Then the CD did. It was a weird time where games would make you satanic and songs made you violent...oh 80's... Plus the album had controversy surrounding the original master tape polarity and a flame war between the band (Andy) and Todd Rundgren who produced and recorded it. And multiple releases that changed almost at a whim. But overall, the album is to me, a psychedelic masterpiece. I honestly love playing it mixed with Rubber Soul and Revolver by The Beatles. Sonically and experimentation wise is like a little sibling. Now...Andy Partridge...holy schnikees he comes off as a wackadoodle. He is very outspoken, and a devout arbiter of what he feels is the truth...founded or unfounded. And he can say things before his good sense censors all the thoughts rambling around in his head. But...these same things allow him to write some absolutely beautiful and gutting lyrics. So I have a hard time condemning him while praising him. He's complicated...as most neurodivergents are. So I try to separate the art from the artist here...which is harder than it seems. Without Andy there are no songs...and I think without his songs there is no Andy. Read up on him to see how confounding his life is and has been. So much more I could write, but just listen to this album...so good...so maudlin and yet uplifting. #psychedelia #xtc #fattyvinylsession #discogs #vinyl #vinygram #vinylcommunity #audiotechnica #vinycollector #that33rpmlife #recordcollector #vinyljunkie #nowplaying #nowspinning #igvinyl #vinyladdict #instavinyl #onmyturntable #vinyllove (at Chateau Ruff N Baker City Deux) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpnfOplOW4-/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

How many gods can there be in one sky? Squeeze - Cosi Fan Tutti Frutti (1985) Don't skip - Last Time Forever Underrated track - Heartbreaking World Far from my favorite Squeeze album, this one has actually grown on me. It was the first new album from the band since Sweets From A Stranger in 82...and their sound (while mainly the same) had changed. Some of the songs are really fun, like I Won't Ever Go Drinking and Hits Of The Year. There was even a little introspection like on By Your Side. But what I have issues with honestly is the production and overall sound of the album. The bass and drums sound almost disconnected on many of the tracks. And the vocals are treated to sound like Culture Club versus the rawness of the early albums. Though I still like the album, I wish there was a way to hear a less manipulated mix. And the track lengths...that is a whole other bailiwick. The version I have from the Electrosound plant in Indiana has different track lengths than the Jacksonville pressing...which differs from remastered and reissue copies. It's like this album keeps being adjusted. But...even with all these picky issues, I still listen to it. Tell me your thoughts. #newwave #squeeze #fattyvinylsession #discogs #vinyl #vinygram #vinylcommunity #audiotechnica #vinycollector #that33rpmlife #recordcollector #vinyljunkie #nowplaying #nowspinning #igvinyl #vinyladdict #instavinyl #onmyturntable #vinyllove (at Chateau Ruff N Baker City Deux) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpkubD1uMF3/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I'm not sleeping... U2 - The Unforgettable Fire (1984) Don't skip - ALL OF THEM Underrated track - Indian Summer Sky So this, going back and forth with WAR, is my favorite U2 album. It's the first that I bought new, and the one that I go back to the most. It's a play at least a couple times a month in one way or another. And the songs...BAD is just one of the best rock songs ever, though yes the Sun Devil Stadium version from R&H is the best version, this is the OG. Plus you have Pride, Wire and MLK that each are just perfect. The weakest song, Elvis Presley, is still better than most songs released at the same time. It hit at the perfect moment for me.. I was just starting to explore political content. I was learning to drive and in need of music to scream at the top of my lungs. And most importantly, I needed a band to love that others would listen to with me. I loved the Cure and Joy Division and Bauhaus...but those are listen in your room alone with the lights out and a candle kinds of bands when you are 15. U2 was cool enough to appeal to me, but popular enough that I could play a song and people wouldn't immediately want to fast forward it. So this was my album. I wish there was a way to see how many times over the years I've listened to it...I'm sure it would be in the thousands by now. So why don't you give it one listen...just for me. #perfectalbum #u2 #fattyvinylsession #discogs #vinyl #vinygram #vinylcommunity #audiotechnica #vinycollector #that33rpmlife #recordcollector #vinyljunkie #nowplaying #nowspinning #igvinyl #vinyladdict #instavinyl #onmyturntable #vinyllove (at Chateau Ruff N Baker City Deux) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpfrb4xueQA/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Then who the hell was I? Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago (2007-8) Don't skip - Flume Underrated track - For Emma So I heard about Bon Iver in a review of this album on Pitchfork. But I didn't actually get to hear the full album for over a year after. All I really knew was the song Skinny Love. Then add u heard more songs I started to appreciate it more. The album as a whole is very ethereal. The recording was super low fi but does what is supposed to. I have sometimes wondered how a lot of indie music after this would be different if he had gone a full band production route instead. It's still fresh sounding and still a pretty regular rotation for me. Not a lot I can say that hasn't been said about this one...it's just good solid compositions and hit at just the right time. #indiefolk #boniver #fattyvinylsession #discogs #vinyl #vinygram #vinylcommunity #audiotechnica #vinycollector #that33rpmlife #recordcollector #vinyljunkie #nowplaying #nowspinning #igvinyl #vinyladdict #instavinyl #onmyturntable #vinyllove (at Chateau Ruff N Baker City Deux) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpdHs4IuH6J/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

You came to me one summer night. The Beatles - Beatles '65 (1964 (1975 pressing)) Don't Skip - She's A Woman Underrated track - Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby So this was the US/Canadian release as an alternative to the UK version of Beatles For Sale. It's a collection of about half songs from the Beatles For Sale album and half songs recorded for Hard Day's Night and singles released in early 1964. Although I feel honestly that is a weird album that kind of sounds like a mixtape of random songs from them with no unifying theme or sound, many critics called it their first concept album with a direct line of songs. I can see both ways...and I do enjoy the album...and the last song on each side are my favorites...Mr Moonlight and Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby. To me this was the quintessential transition album...from the early rockabilly and skiffle based songs to the start of the folkier work. They recorded 3 Carl Perkins songs, and two are on this one album...probably to lean into the American connection. But then you have She's A Woman which sounds like a lead into Rubber Soul or Revolver. It's probably my most played of the pre Rubber Soul albums. So get back into The Beatles...they always are fun. #mid60s #thebeatles #fattyvinylsession #discogs #vinyl #vinygram #vinylcommunity #audiotechnica #vinycollector #that33rpmlife #recordcollector #vinyljunkie #nowplaying #nowspinning #igvinyl #vinyladdict #instavinyl #onmyturntable #vinyllove (at Chateau Ruff N Baker City Deux) https://www.instagram.com/p/CparX67uebf/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The skin is just a roadmap. David Byrne - David Byrne's American Utopia On Broadway (Original Cast Recording) (2019) Don't skip - This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody) / Slippery People Underrated track - Bullet / Hell You Talmabout So I rarely have real FOMO...but I do about the original run of this show on Broadway. But the pandemic and life got in the way. At least I've seen the HBO special of it. I grew up with Talking Heads and David Byrne. I even took a girl (still apologizing @pbowman2) to see an arthouse screening of Stop Making Sense when we were 16. I just love the music. But seeing how Mr Byrne and all his neuro divergent ideas created a new way to not only hear, but visualize these treasured songs as well as new compositions...well that is just special. Some of my least favorite songs became instant favorites in the new context...like Blind and Glass, Concrete & Stone. It's a strange kind of retrospective of new ideas for old songs and new compositions. Much like the man himself, it's a conundrum. So watch the film and then listen to the music without the visuals. See if how you perceive the individual songs has changed. It's a fun little game. #broadway #davidbyrne #fattyvinylsession #discogs #vinyl #vinygram #vinylcommunity #audiotechnica #vinycollector #that33rpmlife #recordcollector #vinyljunkie #nowplaying #nowspinning #igvinyl #vinyladdict #instavinyl #onmyturntable #vinyllove (at Chateau Ruff N Baker City Deux) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpYjSyou4eg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Riddle me this, my brother, can you handle it? Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique (1989) Don't skip - ALL OF THEM Underrated track - Shadrach So 1989 was a good year for music. Several of my favorite albums came out that year. The Cure's Disintegration, De La Soul's 3ft High, Pixies' Doolittle, Pretty Hate Machine from None Inch Nails...and this, the granddaddy, the OG...Paul's Boutique. This album so sounds as fresh today as it did the day it came out. The use of samples I think hit its high point with this album. They came from everywhere...Zeppelin, Johnny Cash, Zamrock, cartoons, movies...even answering machines. They sampled everyone, including themselves. Shake Your Rump alone has 14 samples by 12 artists...on one single song...mixed to perfection with beat changes, break downs and even samples of bongs and straws. And this was before there were digital pads. No hitting a button, it was serious work using samplers that could hold only a small bit of info at a time. The Dust Brothers absolutely made perfection with the tracks. And don't think the Beasties just slacked off. Their rhymes were as dense as the tracks, and we're all over the place. They had references going from pop culture, to hippies, to political satire to biblical allusions. One of my favorites is Shadrach. It's a loose allusion to the biblical story of Sharach, Meshach and Abednego, and how they choose to be burnt by Nebuchadnezzar II rather than bowing to the king's image. They turn the parable on its head and turned it into a boast that they run their lives and choose who and what they honor. That was a bold statement coming from 3 punks who hit it as a novelty rap group. It was a statement of intent. This album just kills...and I could easily go into each song and opine ad nauseum...but I won't. Instead I'll say listen to this album and 3ft High And Rising today...to me, the most influential sample albums of all time. #samples #beastieboys #fattyvinylsession #discogs #vinyl #vinygram #vinylcommunity #audiotechnica #vinycollector #that33rpmlife #recordcollector #vinyljunkie #nowplaying #nowspinning #igvinyl #vinyladdict #instavinyl #onmyturntable #vinyllove (at Chateau Ruff N Baker City Deux) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpVZr9Ru1ug/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
