I think the biggest problem is the writers want them to be a couple but SEGA has a rule that they can't have relationships and keeps all them in the 'will they won't they' phase. They can only do the bare minimal at best which suuuucks when you want to show characters as a couple or hint at liking each other more than just at a platonic level sadly...

Oh yeah no, I know about that. And I can definitely see the limitations that creates, but at the same time, Sega themselves have been able to portray romance just fine in the franchise before, so it's probably much closer to Sega just telling them to not hyperfocus on it like they did during the Archie days.

Ultimately though I think it just comes back to the fact that I don't like Flynn or Stanley's writing, but the basic concepts of Whisper and Tangle are very compelling. So everything surrounding them narratively, or at least beyond their first few appearances, is just stuff I don't like period. Whether it be them, or how they write the game cast.

Name: Cuffs Gender: Female General Appearance: Echidna with longer spines. Red (dd0011) fur with emerald green (046307) tips and Indigo (4B0082) eyes. Wears practical earth tones with a climate appropriate jacket depending on where she is - and the hat everyone loves. Personality: Gruff and crude when she speaks up, but often a bit reserved. Has a temper on her that can get set off easily and quite a bit of an ego, but also a strong sense of duty. Will crack jokes at the expense of others. Soft, nurturing side that will do anything to protect kids, chao, and critters. Name: Capella

Gender: they/them or any/all.

General Appearance: Almost looks like an echidna, except they have a whip like tail and black sclera. While the "pupils" are a solid color like Eclipse's, their left one is in the shape of a diamond. Both "pupils" are the same violet as Knuckles' eyes. They also have very sharp claws they often keep hidden under leather gloves. They have similar markings as Eclipse, while still have the same body structure of an echidna like Knuckles.

Personality: Calm and collected. Graceful. Polite and charming to an extent. But a fierce warrior when against a threat. Fairly socially awkward and enjoys books and astrology.

Special Talents: Teleportation and agility like you wouldn't believe. Heavily skilled in combat and photographic memory. She only needs to see a map once. Advanced in manipulating Chaos Energy and seems to be able to connect with the spiritual world.

Who they like better: Close to both parents, no question.

Who they take after more: In most cases, Knuckles. But their desire to see everything and learn deffo comes from Eclipse.

Personal Head canon: they can see Tikal and calls her "Auntie" at times. Has met Chaos a few times and sees them as a grandparent in some ways. Has three chaos that follow them around. Spars with Shadow. Does research with Tails due to him becoming a teacher to them.
