Illustrations loosely based on "fables from Nicaragua and Guatemala"
Hello!
This is an old college assignment, that unfortunately is not holding up so well as time goes on - but I still have some fond memories of being super proud of how it all came out (especially the first illustration).
I used to NEVER work in color, because I really had no idea how to make it look good - so I would always hand in my artworks with some bullshit explanation as to why it's lineart only haha
But as time went by (and my teacher's patience got thinner) I had to start using color aaand this was my first time doing so!
As you can see, it's still pretty bare so I'm thinking of re-doing it someday to see how much I've improved (in that area at least;;;). Especially because I found out how you can use gradient maps to try out different color palletes when working from b&w - which this illustration is fully based on.
I rememeber heavily relying on reference for this work - I don't know what it was exactly, but I probably copied some of the more detailed elements to save up on time. The deadlines were extremely short for some of these projects, so I scrambled to get anything out haha
But yeah, I'd definitely would like to do better than that, now that I have more experience and time under my belt!
