what ever happened to production companies aiming to garner a dedicated fanbase/fandom for their shows and the support of these fandoms ensuring the security and success of the show for future seasons, which when made would bring even more people into the fandom.

but now companies like netflix don't care about growing dedicated fandoms and will only greenlight second seasons of shows if they are watched by a population of half a billion within their first month. which shows me that they only really care about getting the attention of the general public. tbh, i feel like if dr who or sherlock or supernatural or merlin were to have aired on netflix rn, they wouldn’t have been renewed. it sickens me how much media priorities have changed.

Do u have any thoughts on gwaines necklace? Is it a moon? I can't remember if cannon ever explained where it came from :(

It wasn't ever explained in canon, I don't think! I know the ring belonged to Eoin Macken's father and he always wore it so they incorporated it into the character design. According to the wiki page the charm (a crescent moon) is Egyptian and was given to him by his mother, though I did read somewhere that it had been added to the necklace to make it something more like what Gwaine would wear, but that was several years ago and I can't remember where I saw it, so it's probably wrong.

I could be wrong here, too, but I think in fanon the ring is considered to have belonged to Gwaine’s father and I'm not sure if there's any popular headcanons for the crescent moon. I quite like the idea of it being involved in his family crest and all of the conflict that could bring with his own identity and perceptions of the world -- though I can't remember if I've actually explored it much. I'm also quite partial to the idea of Elyan (usually in an Elyaine context) adding other charms to the necklace as the years go by. It can be a really neat detail to explore in fics, for sure, and now you've reminded me of it I will definitely be paying more attention in things I read to see if there are any headcanons there!

I refuse to shut up about this. Merlin is not queerbait!! At no point during the show is there a genuine possibility of Arthur and Merlin to be in a romantic relationship. They are queer coded but they do not create a false impression of their relationship. See Sherlock for good example: they constantly bring it up in the show itself and dangle it in front of the viewers, only to not follow through. The show Merlin does not set them up. There are no offhanded remarks, comments, or jokes that they’re more than friends. There is simply no chance in the show that they will get together. They are queer coded, which is not the same. Coding says: this character displays some traits and characteristics that ___ people may relate to. Baiting says: oh you want these two together? hmm, you wanna see that? wouldn’t that be nifty? what if they talk about it and act like it? aren’t you gonna keep watching to find out if they really do? Then follows up with: SIKE! Wow we got you, of course they’re not together! All of that was meaningless! Let’s please stop confusing these two entirely separate concepts!

merthur totally should win for so many reasons but mostly. most because the show writer, when advertising the last episode, said it was “a love story between two men” and then arthur just died in merlin’s arms for 42 minutes. on the day before christmas.

There's a moment, after he buzzes the tower and before he prepares to lend that old shoe box that should be in a museum and not up in the air, where he waits to hear another jet doing the same maneuver as he did. Rooster's laugh is so similar to Goose's that he can almost pretend his RIO is still in the back of his jet and it just needs that specific sound to happen, because if it happens, it means-not even Maverick knows what it could mean.

But then they're back on the carrier, alive for some kind of miracle, and there isn't a cloud in the sky, nothing to hide the vastness of it all. Nothing to hide that no second jet buzzed the tower with him because Goose wasn't in his backset and neither was Merlin. And up there, on his wings, he was alone with the hope of a shadow that he would never see again.

It's all a split of a second, but their absence burns in his heart so fiercely that he can almost feel like he will pass out. When Phoenix, and then Bob, and Hondo and Rooster, hug him, Mav can't help but let the memories linger for a little longer. Long enough to feel another pair of hands hugging him against his chest, another pair of hands checking out for injuries. Another voice asking him if everything's okay.
