What I find interesting about Ezmia's backstory is how the offenses of the people who wronged her get less severe as the list goes on, but her reaction escalates in spite of that. The first two did genuinely horrible things to her, then the next two were still bad but much less severe, and the last one literally just friendzoned her and she's more angry about that than she was about the guy who physically abused her. I like how it kind of implicitly shows her mental state getting worse over time so the evilness doesn't feel out of nowhere.

rereading the land of stories bc i was obsessed with it growing up and damn do i understand why. It’s marketed towards kids but it doesn’t baby them and the lessons are true and transcend age and the characters are amazing? Also I kind of love Ezmia as a villain and character and person. I’m reading the enchantress returns and everything she says is so… True? Like yeah. Yeah keep talking queen. I’m so fucking mad she didn’t get the redemption arc she deserved.

Starting off the year strong. This is a commission for someone on discord—someone who really enjoys Ezmia! I was really honored by them wanting me to make them some fanart of her, and it was nice to draw someone else than my go-to’s for a change.

Unfortunately it was a bit of a challenge—especially with her hair. I drew it how I usually would at first (how you’ll see I draw hair in most of my artwork) but it ended up being all muddled and messy and not looking like hair. It actually turned out to be more like fire which…makes sense given I’m me and I draw Xanthous a lot. So I had to scrap the entire hair portion and I opted for my backup ribbon style. It didn’t turn out at all how I hoped and I’m really disappointed by the hair, but I think I just have to keep practicing and get better at it. For now, this is what we’ve got. I hope you all and the recipient of the commission enjoy it as much as I had fun making it!

P.S. I don’t ever plan on going back to ribbon style hair :/ it’s just so unnatural. But then again for this one I kind of like how you can see heir hair twirling through the other strands and it gives a hint at movement—since it’s supposed to be like slow flickering flames. Anyway it was really hard to not make it look like fire :(

Hmm xanrik brainrot am I right. Doth thou hath any canons of head for a weary traveller?

A bunch, actually.

It’s canon that Xanthous is the disaster gay and Elrik is the sauve one, so I headcanon that Elrik is who you want to go to for flirting advice. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad, but it happens.

Xanrik have visited baby Alex and Conner, and for whatever reason there is a picture of the two of them holding them as babies, in normal clothes, in the house somewhere. Elrik is laughing and looks normal, Xanthous is staring at him. Also, Xanthous is wearing a Metallica shirt and Elrik is wearing either a low neck, or a crop top.

Elrik rarely talks to his sister, for one because he doesn’t like his family very much, and for another because she makes Xanthous very uncomfortable, so he never really wanted to.

This more angsty, but Xanthous has panic attacks a lot, in my opinion, and Elrik is pretty much the only thing that can distract him. Otherwise it takes forever for him to come down.

Elrik is the only one he talks about his father with.

In a more lighthearted vein, Elrik has told the OGFC and Witches how they met. Even the lie Xanthous told. So now, whenever Xanthous get is in a tree, or touching a tree, one of them is somehow there asking “Tree climbing championships coming up?” Elrik is the only one who can do it and Xanthous doesn’t throw fire at them. If someone who is a part of the OGFC/Witches does it, they get singed, and they laugh a little. If someone who isn’t them does it… even Rossette and Coral get full on fire blasted if they bring it up. No one knows the context or what it means, but the OHFC, Witches, and Elrik are never letting him live it down.

The gates to Hell got closed off somehow in book two by Ezmia, so Elrik is in Hell and Xanrhous is stuck on the surface and is very pissy about it. It’s also why the demons don’t do anything about it.

Xanthous bottoms.

Elrik and Elron and Elvina were close when they were kids, but then their father drove them apart.

Xanthous has tried to physically fight multiple people when they say soemthing bad about Elrik, and Emeralda has hd to hold him back.

Elrik likes anime. Xanthous likes anime. Elrik loves Romance animes and Xanthous hates them.

They both like sports animes though.

Ironically, Xanthous likes RomComs and Elrik doesn’t.

Page Turner bookstore was still there after the fire during the third book. Xanthous went and introduced Elrik to Mr. Turner and thanked him for helping him come out.

No one currently close to Xanthous, or a part of the HEAA, who isn’t part of the OGFC know he’s married/engaged/married to Elrik.

Ezmia was definitely the best villain in tlos, but my favorite part is that she wasn’t redeemed properly.

Which might be contrary but I appreciate a good villain with a relatable and sad backstory that didn’t think they had any other choice then to be evil but had gone to far down the road of power and hatred to be pulled back.
