Ready, set, let’s go weekend! The 1st 5 days of training are off to a fantastic start! All the runs I dreaded and the swims I loathed to show up for turned out to be way better than anticipated. #happydance 💃🏻 . I wake up every morning with aches in my feet and hips, arthritis in my knees and now a crick in my shoulders & neck too. I’m reminded how I’m about to step over into the latter part of my 4th decade on the planet. 😳 . However, getting my body moving quickly reminds me why I do this. Because while I’m doing it and especially when I’m done, I am overcome with GRATITUDE that I CAN. And bonus, all those ailments are gone. They’re replaced with muscle soreness but that’s the awesome sauce. 😜 . So, if you’re thinking you’re “over” trying to get on to your self love or fitness journey because it’s too hard...take a second and think how much harder it will be if you don’t take care of you while you can. . Jumping into a new week like... . . I wish I could say I woke up like this 👆🏼 but it’s a slow roll for sure. The post workout feels though is what motivates me to get up and go do it. . Running into the week and closer to home like... . . Colorado... We spent the most nights here and as a result, slept more and did less. Go figure. Lol. We hiked Fish Creek Falls and tubed the Yampa in Steamboat Springs, visited Garden of the Gods, The Royal Gorge and got my trail run in at Colorado Springs. (I’m sure we did more but I took less picture and I can’t remember much anymore🤪) . The highlight was getting a night out for dinner (sans kids and HUGE van) to meet up with an old Houston friend in SS. . We are over 4,500 miles in on this road trip, a PR for this crew (personal record 🤣) and we are still not home. However, we are closer and the realities of what’s to come in this Fall is weighing heavy on me. . I’ll be enjoying this last vacation as a rest day as I’m sure I’ll be needing it. 🤪 . Wyoming... It wouldn’t be exciting if the GPS didn’t send us down a dark, narrow winding, narrow road only to find out that it was a closed road and that we’d have to loop back around for another 20 miles AND get pulled over 2 miles from our destination. At midnight. 😳 Luckily, we got off with a warning and when we woke up, our hotel was situated in the most beautiful place ever - Teton Village. 😍 . We started at Jackson Hole, drove up grand Teton Natl Park, Yellowstone and saw the Old Faithful geyser (though it was puny when we visited), the Grand Prismatic Spring (we missed catching it’s rainbow colors because the sun was setting). . Got my run in the next morning...first up the mountain and quickly pivoting when I realized I was being ridiculous 🤪 - running straight uphill on a hiking trail is not the wisest. 😖 The alternative was beautiful and did. It disappoint in views. 😍 . Last pic was impromptu pull over at the Burger Barn food truck on the way out of the state. Burgers for 2 (while everyone slept) turned into burgers for 10 and some play time too. . . Still keeping up with the #bunsgunsabschallenge and I’ve now run in: AZ, UT, ID, WY... still on the road. We are over 3,500 miles in. 👊🏼 . Oh hey! A pocket of service and time so 2nd post from our Summer adventure! . Since our stop at Cadillac Ranch, we blew thru New Mexico and stayed in Flagstaff. There, I got my first run in the neighboring trails from our hotel. So nice to explore the area that way. 😍 . I use the @alltrails app to find running trails at home but now I’ve also been using it to find hikes. You can sort them by difficulty and distance...Something I really could’ve used BEFORE we ventured on to #DevilsBridge in #Sedona. 😳 . I missed the part about the treacherous (hot and long) hike from the parking area to the trailhead. I’m sure they all cursed me. 🤷🏻‍♀️ And my heart can barely handle the heights anymore 😖 check out my daughter and her friend who went across to the top of the bridge. (I felt sick...the boys had done it before I got there, thank goodness or I would had a nervous breakdown) . We continued on to the Grand Canyon and then Page, where we decided to make it a 2 night stay. Spent the next day at Lake Powell and the kids realized that the treacherous hike the day before was only the beginning of their test of fitness. 🤣 They independently ventured across the lake to what ended up being a 3+ hour kayak trip 😳. (So proud of them all!) They found some canyons, white sand beaches and incredible views. *shout out to @wazsupkayaks for hooking up this last minute crew with some fun on the Lake. Impeccable service!! Check them out if you make a trip to #LakePowell The scenery on the road is just jaw dropping and getting to experience the vast change in the topography from one mile to the next is remarkable.
