chronicling my fursona development pt 1
What could possibly go wrong?
well it's quite simple - many, many things. I've started using Bubsy as a reference material (my fursona is a bobcat after all, kinda a cross between Dixie Mae Carlyle and Bubsy), and i've been making notes on what makes him "work", and i've been doing that with Eric W Schwartz's art for ages (my fursona used to be a skunk, is all).
to summarise what i've learnt so far:
large eyes and a mouth can make a character more expressive.
you don't need complicated eyes to convey emotion - even just the pupil can convey a lot.
large cheeks are helpful with some felines - not just rodents
the simpler the design, the better.
The 90s clearly had the right idea when it came to character design.
