Starting My Journey: Eltville on the Rhein, Germany

🌍✈️The moment I've been eagerly awaiting is finally here: I'm starting a four-week adventure through Germany, beginning in Eltville on the Rhein, where my brother lives. My sister-in-law and me, we're all set to kick off this Friday.

Visita familiar. Parte 1

Otra semana que se esfuma, pero esta vez en compañía de mi madre y mi tía, que han venido a verme unos días. Llegaron el miércoles y, sin tiempo que perder, hicieron conmigo un free tour para conocer la ciudad de Frankfurt un poquito mejor.

El tiempo estos días es de lo más otoñal por aquí, frío y lluvia sobre todo, pero a pesar de ello, han podido aprovechar los días a tope, sobre todo las mañanas mientras yo trabajaba (sí, yo trabajo aunque no lo parezca jejejeje). El jueves visitaron Würzburg (Baviera), el viernes, Heidelberg (Baden-Wurtemberg) y ayer fuimos juntas a Mainz (Renania-Palatinado). No cabe duda de que hemos sacado el máximo provecho al Deutschlandsticket, que cuesta 49 euros al mes y te permite viajar por toda Alemania en todos los medios de transporte, excepto trenes IC/ICE.

Mainz es una ciudad muy chula; es sobre todo conocida porque aquí nació Gutenberg, está bañada por el Rin, es una zona donde producen buen vino (según los entendidos 😄) y aquí se celebra uno de los carnavales más importantes de Alemania. Nosotras ayer pudimos visitar la catedral, paseamos por las callecitas que tienen casas con entramado de madera, entramos a la iglesia de San Esteban (muy bonita por sus vidrieras) y echamos un vistazo al mercado.

Después, se unió Pilar, que es otra profe visitante que vive en Eltville, y nos llevó a ver su pueblo. ¡Es una preciosidad! ¡Nos gustó un montón! 😍 Comimos a orillas del río y nos dimos un paseo por esas calles que tanto encanto tienen. Terminamos el día haciendo una visitilla a Wiesbaden, la capital de Hesse, y de vuelta a Frankfurt a descansar.

Hoy despedida y vuelo de vuelta. Han sido unos días muy bonitos, en los que hemos disfrutado mucho, nos lo hemos pasado genial, nos hemos reído y hemos comido hasta reventar. Ahora ya deseando de que llegue la segunda visita familiar... 😁

Von Eltville nach Hamburg

Heute geht es auf in den Norden. Hamburg ist unser nächstes Ziel.

Den gestrigen Sonntag haben wir gemütlich begangen. Ein Besuch in Rüdesheim mit einem köstlichen ,,Rüdesheimer Kaffee" war am Programm. Rein wettertechnisch war es sehr wechselhaft, somit war es ein kurzer Ausflug. Am Nachmittag der obligatorische Spaziergang mit dem Hund, der im Anlieger 511, einem kleinen Lokal am Rhein, bei einem Getränk, endete.

Den Abend ließen wir gemütlich mit unseren Verwandten ausklingen und nach einem stärkenden Frühstück sind wir schon auf dem Weg. Bis morgen...

Rheinhessen: Ress Family Winery

Balthasar Ress opened the “Hotel Ress” in Eltville am Rhein in 1870 in what is today’s “Hotel Kronenschlösschen,” and soon after, wines listed with the Ress family name began appearing on the restaurant’s wine list. In the 1920s, Carl Ress, son of Balthasar, further developed the winery, and in the 1950s, Carl and his nephew Paul took over the acclaimed export winery “Hasensprung – Joachim Bäumer.”

Stefan Ress, the eldest son of Paul and today’s senior, joined the company as a limited partner in 1963. With a 1976 restructuring, export activities fell under Stefan B. Ress KG Weinkellerei, while Weingut Balthasar Ress became a pure wine estate.

Christian Ress, Stefan’s son, leads today with innovative ideas such as the private members’ club wineBANK and partnering with Olivier Brun to form Veritable Groupe. A négociant business named “Ress Family Wineries” was developed to produce brands from contracted growers. RFW brands include the popular WHITE RABBIT Riesling and a new RESS Organic line.
