Important secondary introduction: CREVICE.
He likes to drive nails into himself and belittle people with no instigation at all <3
Crevice is a wizard of ill renown. He makes his keep through his keen sense of smell, which is able to sniff out magic and track down even the most elusive sorcerers. Its a lucrative business n he has no qualms about bringing ruin onto fellow magic users. May in fact have a personal vendetta against a certain wizard(and his apprentices) hes trying to track down, too. Was once imprisoned by said wizard for possibly hundreds of years and he hasn't exactly forgiven the guy for it. Crevice is dangerous and hard to stand for extended periods of time, largely due to his intense misandry and frequent discussions of various violent acts he'd love to enact on both you and himself or you on him. Has great mastery of the scythe and the sickle, rarely resorting to showing his own magic to outsiders.
Funny guy whom I kinda still wanna make more of a world for. Something Mad Max-y, Conan The Barbarian-y, fetishistic ultraviolent psychosexual like. You know the type. Even got some ideas for how the magic system works! Kinda makes the whole spellcasting thing function like a shark tank pitch - its good stuff.

CROW!!!
I demand headcanons for Milli Milli aka Millicent if you have any!
And if not, go have a lovely weekend you muppet!!! 🔥
YAYA BIM LET’S GO!! I’D LOVE TO TALK ABOUT OUR GIRL!
(SO SORRY FOR HOW LATE THIS IS!! My Elden Ring inspo hasn’t been at peak performance, I’ll be honest, but I hope this brightens your day, anyway!)
Tumblr media
🍂 Millicent was an autumn baby, born of the Aeonia swamp some time after Malenia was delivered back to the Haligtree by Finlay. Caelid didn’t ever offer much in the way of seasons, but the rest of the Lands Between knew it was later in the year when Millie showed up.
🍂 She was, out of all her sisters, the most like Malenia and represented her truest heart, her nobility, and her desire to be an independent individual free of the bonds of her illness and Rot, the outer god.
🍂 Millie grew up with her beloved sisters, but one by one they each disappeared, setting out on a grand “journey” encouraged by their “father.” Millicent’s memories of her sisters eventually grew hazy because of the rot, but she did miss them dearly.
🍂 Millicent only ever knew Gowry as an adoptive father, and while he had relied on him as a child, she began to mistrust him as she grew older. Something about him was wrong and possessive. She gradually drifted away, straining her relationship with him and trying to live on her own.
🍂 Millicent liked to wander around the Lands Between and that’s actually how she met Malenia’s old mentor, the Blind Swordsman. He was very quiet and stern, speaking little of his old student, but he recognized Malenia in Millicent, and trained her in kindness.
🍂 Millie learn how to Waterfowl and use a sword, but she lacked the exact type of unalloyed gold tools to keep the rot at bay. For a long time she simply stagnated it through combat, rushing to protect villages and travelers should they ever be accosted by bandits or mercenaries.
🍂 A lot of wandering peoples throughout the Lands Between became aware of Millicent through this and how she brought back the memory of Malenia in a small way, especially the Albinaurics. They loved her.
🍂 This is actually how Millie met Latenna. They became friends 🖤
🍂 After a while, the rot slowly took its toll on Millicent and she became too sickly to travel. She reluctantly returned to Gowry in Caelid, asking for his advice. But he was cryptic and deceptive, telling her only to search for the needle. We all know how that ended up lol.
🍂 Millicent grew so sick by the time the Tarnished showed up that she lost much of her memory. Her past life and travels were blurry and Gowry himself was nothing to her anymore.
🍂 She set out on her journey out of some strange pull and instinct, having forgotten that her sisters had made the exact same choice long before. She was not aware of her direct relation to Malenia, but she felt a strong connection there.
🍂 Millicent regained many of her memories after fighting her sisters and withered in grief, realizing what had happened to them and Malenia alike. It was a moment of self-realization, and she took the needle out at once. She wanted to die whole and human, to die as her own.
🍂 Through this action, she redeemed her mother. She preserved Malenia’s true heart and will, dying in peace.
Some more easy-going, light-hearted headcanons include:
Millie LOVED Spirit Jellyfish. Whenever she saw them, she would run over to just sit and watch them float around with an enraptured expression.
She was also just fascinated by the sea and all its life-forms in general. The cool blue rush of the ocean was like a type of freedom to her, pulling her far away from the rotten, arid plains of Caelid.
Besides Altus Plateau, Millie’s favorite place to visit was Ordina. She was fixated on the beautiful phantom buildings and the way they glowed in the snowfall. She even went sledding around there a few times.
Latenna jokingly told Millie that was she part cat, mainly because her big yellow eyes tended to glow in the dark!
Millie was a sucker for broiled prawn. Nuff said.
Millicent liked to eat Erdleaf flowers too. She saw nothing wrong with it. She just ate them.
Out of all her sisters, Mary was Millicent’s favorite when they were young. There was a strange sorrow and solemnity to Mary that came from Malenia’s own grief, but it made for a very pensive and peaceful older figure in Millicent’s life that liked to tell her stories and old legends.
Yes, autumn was Millie’s favorite season and she often daydreamed of seeing the Haligtree in its full amber and golden bloom.
Finlay was Millicent’s person hero, and she went around asking different people to recount various versions of the tale regarding Finlay’s heroic act.
Millicent liked to sew and bead necklaces. It was one of her pass-time hobbies.
Millicent actually went to see the Radahn Festival one time and was a bit put off by the glorification of war that surrounded it, but she felt a lot of pity and sympathy for Radahn himself. She secretly hoped that he would one day regain his mind and sense of self.
Millicent met Melina once by chance and they bonded over their oddly similar life stories.
Finally, Millie had a pet turtle…errr dog, at one point and named him Montie. She never actually kept him, but he wandered around oddly close to Caelid and whenever she saw him, she would just yell, “MONTIE” with affection and then even the birds would stare at her in confusion lol.

HEY HAPPY STS
-your question about my influences is making me write an essay 🤣 but it also made me curious about YOU 👀. I would also like to give a reverse uno card and entice an essay out if you 👀 -
So :3 what are your influences and inspirations? Is it games like Bloodborne? Other games in the same setting as hour of magic? Maybe other shows and media you got story / plot / character inspo from? I wanna know about all of them 😭.
And yes, an essay is expected 👀😂❤️
@bloodlessheirbyjacques (: ✨
"And yes, an essay is expected 👀😂❤️" AHAHAHAHAH If you're sure!!!

Influence Ask
June 18, 2022
One of the most rewarding aspects of being a writer is to not only create new ideas and characters from the raw firmament--to be challenged and pushed through the act of pure creation--but to also pay reverent homage to the various media that have shaped our own imagination and preferences for storytelling. In my debut novel, The Hour of Magic, several key influences have been subtly integrated into the characters, setting, and plot.
Lmao the rest of the answer will be pretty casual. I did debate adding a works cited page though, but I figured the MLA heading was enough of a goof.
So I looooooove Bloodborne and all of the other Fromsoftware Games. It was actually after playing Elden Ring that I realized that immortal, larger-than-life figures could be very fun to include in a setting and as a means of being able to expand on the world's history in a way that's not just exposition. It's not my most subtle reference, but Malenia inspired the queen of Correlaine; she even has a prosthesis. You've probably noticed that I have a lot of lighthearted humor in a lot of my character interactions, so it was a fun challenge to have certain characters just feel more...weighty, if that makes sense. How would this super tall, immortal queen who lived over a 100 years ago feel different from the rest of the cast? She's still very kind and wise, but something always feels slightly unnerving about her.
I also freaking adored Arcane!!! I was already writing Hour when it came out, but Piltover and the Piltover council gave me huge New Nobelia vibes. I think my biggest area of weakness in writing is writing compelling villains (the villain/s of Hour is a massive spoiler) and I would trade years of my life to be able to write a villain as compelling as Silco!!
I play DnD and listened to a lot of DnD podcasts when I used to live an hour away from my work, and one of my favorite things about Dnd is the general banter and relationship-building between the player characters. Especially when they start on their journey up to Correlaine, the Blend, and New Nobelia, I hope Krieve, Godric, Jaisse, Salma, and Fahad give off "fun DnD party" vibes.
And if all of this didn't make me seem like a huge enough nerd, then I'll also share that I love anime. One of my favorite thing about a lot of shonen anime is there would also be some cool, legendary side group, that weren't usually the main characters, but just this hyper-competent group of people that were more part of the world than the main plot. That group archetype inspired the wardens. Their roles and titles, like "Shield Warden", "Forge Warden", "Brawl Warden" etc., and their role as just being legendarily capable side characters is 100% anime inspired. (Oh, and a little bit from the Trails video game series (Trails in the Sky, Trails of Cold Steel, etc.) So many of the cool side characters in that game have cool nicknames and legends attached to them, so a little bit of that series's influence ended up in Hour as well.)
Last but not least (in many ways the biggest influence) are books!! I love writing that has at least a little bit of humor in it, but ideally a moderate amount of humor. I find humor makes characters and situations (especially in fantasy) very grounded and relatable. Characters can go from “characters” to “person” with a well timed joke (or a reaction to one). Sometimes things that have a super serious tone 100% of the time can get a little tiring if my intention is to read something purely for pleasure. I love ANYTHING by Terry Pratchett. He threads the needle so perfectly of writing absolutely hysterical lines, while also having really deep messages, elaborate world-building, and thiree-dimensional characters. After the prologue, I actually made sure that the first joke in the story comes fairly early on just to immediately ground the characters a little more and to show the writing isn’t as reverent as the prologue would imply. This is a complex fantasy world, but don’t worry, it’s accessible and won’t demand you take it super seriously at all times. I also go to books for escapism, so I like it when things can be serious at times, but also lighthearted. (And then when scenes DO have to be somber, they hit way harder. 🥲)
I love capable female characters, such as Serene in Elantris by Brandon Sanderson, Sophie Hatter from Howl’s Moving Castle, and Miriam from Spinning Silver. I loved how compelling the political intrigue was in The Mirror Visitor (along with the suuuuuuuuuper slow burn romance that was almost too slow, even for me).
I don’t want to demand too much of anyone’s time, so I’ll cut myself off there! Thank you for the ask and the high expectations for an answer lmao!!! <3 <3 <3
