Note
El Chapo on Netflix is really good. I'm sure people are polarized on it cause the Narcos show as well, but in general i try not to consume media that glamorizes the whole narco trafficking thing in Mexico. Simply because it's tearing people and families apart and it's creates a sort of vacuum, where's there's little to no opportunity for hard working people and their descendants outside of that game.
alright i feel that. i don’t think i’ve ever heard of El Chapo, i don’t get on netflix much. ty for the anon!

The Routledge Companion
Chapter 34
Lately, the obsession with Narcos and cartels have been unbelievably trendy. I remember looking at tiktoks where young women were obsessing over El Chapo’s son but in all reality they forget how horrible it is to be in constant fear because of the cartels. I have been seeing how tv shows are glamourising and romanticizing cartels and it is beyond what people can imagine. I have not gone to visit my family in Mexico for more than 10 years because of how overpowered cartels are in our area. More and more we are seeing how this lifestyle is influencing the media from tv shows to music. We are seeing more and more violence everyday and the romanticizing of it in the media but they never seem to speak on the reasons why many people in Mexico are suffering. I have yet to hear more about the War On Drugs other than the small introduction in the show Narcos on Netflix. I have yet to hear more about how our current gun control policies in the U.S. has made it easier to distribute military grade arms to the cartels. I have yet to hear more about how the U.S. has not taken ownership of the mistakes it has made that has harmed other countries and has caused push and pull factors in the flow of migration throughout the years. But yet here we are, glamourising and romanticizing the corruption and violence that comes with cartels.

'She laughed often and made the students laugh,' Palmer added.Īnd to Sorokin's delight, students also took note of how she didn't sound anything like her character, played by Julia Garner, in Netflix series Inventing Anna. Sorokin, who greeted each person individually, often by name, candidly answered every question she was asked and did not hold back in her responses. Students were asked to have one question prepared for Sorokin, who was granted 20 minutes to speak through a call service for inmates at Orange County jail in Goshen, New York. 'Despite El Chapo's absence, she agreed to make the time and talk to the class.' Sorokin was convicted in 2019 of second-degree larceny, theft of services and first-degree attempted larceny after she refused to pay at some of the city's most expensive hotels She asked if El Chapo was also on the guest list,' Palmer said. 'I messaged her and asked her how she felt about popping in for a visit on Day 1.

Palmer told she reached out to Sorokin again last month, this time to invite her to participate in a lecture where students would have the opportunity to speak to a source and learn how to gain their trust. Palmer covered Sorokin's trial for the paper as a freelance reporter and interviewed her at Rikers Island several times. Her comments later came back to haunt her when she was asked about the article by the parole board. In a 2019 jailhouse interview following her sentencing, Sorokin infamously told New York Times reporter Emily Palmer that she wasn't sorry for any of her crimes. Sorokin had drawn widespread media attention after her story went viral in 2018, but she would continue to make headlines in the months to follow due to her blatant lack of remorse. When asked if there was a particular question she wishes reporters would stop asking her, she replied: 'If I'm sorry.' You're not going to talk to somebody who is hostile or you don't like.' And you're obviously willing to tell more to the person that you perceive as being friendly or is at least understanding. Students were asked to have one question prepared for Sorokin, who was granted 20 minutes to speak through a call service for inmates at Orange County jail in Goshen, New York 'It's a fine line between getting too friendly or like being friendly enough so that story becomes better,' she told the class. In a transcript of the call shared with, the con artist emphasized the importance of treating sources with respect and not treating her like she's crazy. Members of the 16-student class quizzed the scammer about her experience as a 'source' and why she agreed to give interviews that later turned her into a celebrity. Sorokin - also known by her fake name Anna Delvey - gained notoriety after a 2018 New York magazine article exposed her life as faux socialite who swindled hundreds of thousands of dollars from banks, hotels and friends in New York City. The infamous fraudster, 31, spoke candidly about her relationship with the press after agreeing to participate in an Introduction to Reporting course for first-year students via phone from a detention facility on August 29. I love how the most DISORGANIZED Drug Scheme (Black Lives Matter) started with Beyonce being flat out racist instead moving to a different country, Narcos dropping on Netflix, El Chapo giving north of $10 BILLION to the US Government, the Panama Papers, Kylie Jenner being called the Youngest Self Made Billionaire by Forbes while PARTYING AT TURKS AND CAICOS (even though she was on Keeping Up with the Kardashians YEARS after Kim the main character), the EU Blacklist, Then a black male who had market value of $16 million for no prior experience in a $10 Billion Industry becomes a target
