Turns out he's best friends with Jackie Stewart and Niki Lauda (also befriended Emerson Fittipaldi plus Jody Scheckter), was inspired to write Faster after Niki's crash, then dedicated the song to Jackie and Niki.

Do you know that Nigel Mansell tried rallying, and also ice racing ? He participated in the 1998 24 Hours of Chamonix at Mont Blanc in a Ford Escort. And guess who was his teammate ? Ari Vatanen !

They qualified for the grand final but had a serious damage (2nd last pic) so ended up 12th in the final results.

Audi Quattro three-wheel drive (or The story of how Hannu Mikkola and his co-driver Arne Hertz managed to finish SS11 of 1983 Lombard RAC Rally at Knowsley Safari Park with just 3 wheels on his car)

Having hit a tree stump which collapsed the front strut, Hannu had to remove the front wheel, while Arne sat at the end of the car in an effort to reduce pressure on the broken suspension and increase traction at the rear.

They finished the stage, which was won by Henri Toivonen and Fred Gallagher, and eventually placed 2nd overall.

So okay I was trying to dig up pictures for my goofy Jochen Rally exploits series but I ended up with some really interesting scans (thank you to the lovely old Italian men on Facebook from whom I have thievered these).

At the right scan, look for "Categoria Gran Turismo", then at "classe fino a 1300 cc", you will see Jochen's results. Or if you're too lazy to read all that words, look at the "le classifiche" then you can easily spot his name: Rindt Jochen, Austria(id.) 15'35''

But then, hey, once again let's look at the the final classification (classifica assoluta). It's Ada Pace, placing 8th in her Osca 1000, and 1st in her class (classe fino a 1000cc, categoria sport). Biggest gratitude to lellalombardiapologist for their post because without that I would never notice her.

Since 1962's top classification was mainly Porsche drivers (and for a certain 1961 event) , the writer likened such domination to 1958, when Taffy won the Trento-Bondone hillclimb in a Porsche. And he finished the hillclimb in just 9 minutes; how cool is that !
