NOTE: This version of Eddie Gluskin takes place in an ALTERNATE UNIVERSE than the canon Eddie. Their responses to their trauma are very, very different, so their personalities are as well. I will absolutely be willing to have threads involving this version of Eddie and the canon Eddie, especially since they are to an extent already connected in my own version, but please note that they are separate people.

CONTENT WARNING: This bio contains mentions of violence, child abuse, sexual abuse, and other potentially triggering things. This character also originates from a video game that contains very graphic, twisted horror themes. If these things make you uncomfortable, then this muse is not for you!

Name: Edward “Eddie” Gluskin

Backstory:

Eddie was abused from a very young age, both physically and sexually, by his father and his uncle. His mother was also a victim of his father’s abuse, which caused her untimely death. An investigation began after that, and when Eddie was thirteen he was taken from his home by child services, and his father and uncle were both sent to prison to be beaten and killed by other inmates. Despite being saved physically, Eddie had already been badly traumatized, and that trauma followed him to adulthood.

Eddie was prone to getting into fights and petty crimes as a teenager, which caused multiple skirmishes with the police. He was held in a rehabilitation / juvenile detention facility from ages 16 to 17, after which he left and attempted to get his life together.

At one point during his twenties, Eddie started having nightmares. They involved violent, graphic murders, all committed by his own self. He was at a loss as to why he experienced them; he was aware of his trauma, but had expected PTSD symptoms in the form of flashbacks. Why would he make things up in his sleep? In any case, the nightmares led to a bad case of insomnia, as well as Eddie trying to distract himself as much as possible.

Eddie went through a number of different jobs, and developed just as many bad habits, everything from alcohol to heavy narcotics. When he managed to find a job opportunity as a security guard at an art museum, he of course had to quit drugs; to compensate for the severe withdrawal symptoms he suffered from, his alcoholism worsened. Somehow, he passed his drug tests and got the job; after that, the only time he didn’t drink was when he was working.

He worked for years at the museum, enjoying the solace he found in patrolling late at night or helping lost kids find their parents. He wound up learning quite a bit about art, as well as having an excuse to keep himself awake. When he did sleep, he was too exhausted to dream. For a while, he was free of his nightmares.

The first time Eddie truly connected with someone was when he started dating Annie Edowes, a younger woman who worked at the museum. She knew far more about the art and its history than Eddie did, and her passion for it was what had drawn him to her in the first place.

Annie was a lot of things for Eddie - his first positive experience with romance and sex, the only true family that he’d ever known. He trusted her enough to depend on her, so when she was murdered, his life was turned completely upside-down.

Eddie was the primary suspect in the investigation, which didn’t help his grief at all. The police dug up his past without remorse - his drug habits, his criminal record, even his childhood abuse. It cost him his job, the last thing he had left, and for nothing. He was found innocent, and the police had wasted so much time investigating him that they never managed to find the actual killer.

Afterwards, Eddie became obsessed with tracking down Annie’s murderer. He struggles each day to get by on his family’s insurance money (something he’d previously sworn never to dip into, out of pure spite) and what little he’d saved up from work. He’s a budding prodigy when it comes to investigating, and hopes to someday become a private investigator so he can do his research legally. But without work, he no longer has an excuse not to sleep when he’s tired, and the other Eddie haunts his dreams when he does.
