               nature     still     surrounds     her          ,          but     not     the     same     nature   .     too     hot          ,          too     sticky          ,          &          the     trees     are     wrong     ;          broad     leaves          ,          splashes    of     color          ,          replace     the     evergreens     which     she     became     so     accustomed     to     in     her     youth   .     where     is     she          ?          how     did     she     get     here          ?          so     many     questions   .     for     a     time          ,          she’s     sure     she’ll     never     get     the     answers          ,          but     that’s     when     she     seems     him   .    boots    crunching     in     the     underbrush          ,          short     skirt     swaying     over     scraped     knees          ,          lizzie     finally     comes     to     a     stop     so     she     can     holler          &          wave   .          (          seems     more     excited     than     worried          ,          but     who’s     to     say          ?          )

               what     isn’t     happening          ?          alex     flashes     aiden     a     tired     look          ,          as     if     he     lacks     the     will     to     give     any     answer     beyond     this          ,          but     he’s     been     asked     a     question          &          he     knows    he’s     meant     to     answer          ---------------          even     if     he     regrets     saying     anything     in     the     first     place   .     it     was     supposed     to     be     a     joke          ,          a     bit     of     self     ---     deprecation     based     in     fact          ,          something     that’d     bring     some     sort     of     amusement     to     the     older     male   .     he     isn’t     supposed     to     be     concerned          ,          but     that’s     how     he     sounds   .     weird          .   .   .
