New: Malaysian Drug Fugitive Arrested in Laos
A Malaysian fugitive, a key member of a drug syndicate, was arrested in Laos during a joint Thai-Lao operation. The suspect, wanted in Thailand for drug smuggling, had been in hiding in Laos. The suspect, identified as Ong, 39, was captured in Laos on Dec 29, says Bangkok Post.

Rogue cop nabbed in Kelantan's biggest drug syndicate
KOTA BARU, May 5:
Federal police routed Kelantan’s biggest drug syndicate whose trafficking operations were allegedly assisted by a rogue police officer based in Kuala Lumpur, by way of providing information on impending police raids in the state.
The suspect, who is a corporal based at a police station in Kuala Lumpur, was said to have been the “link man” for the syndicate for about a year, in its distribution of three types of drugs, namely syabu, ecstasy and yaba.
Also arrested were the policeman’s accomplices comprising two Thais and four locals who were allegedly involved in distributing the drugs to Kuala Lumpur which served as the main distribution centre, from the transit point in Kelantan
The policeman and two of the suspects were picked up in Kuala Lumpur while the rest were nabbed in Kelantan.
The arrests and drug seizures in four raids were carried out last Thursday.
Bukit Aman’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said besides the seizure of the three drugs worth about RM3 million, the police also seized the syndicate’s assets valued in excess of RM1 million.
“We believe the syndicate had been running the drug distribution operations for about a year. The police surveillance began early this year.
“We are investigating the police corporal’s connection to the drug syndicate which smuggled drug supplies in vehicles from neighbouring countries, via main entry points,” he told a press conference at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters here today.
Noor Rashid said in joint operations conducted last Thursday by the federal and Kelantan police, and the Narcotics Surveillance Tactical Special Force, various types of drugs were seized, including 19.31kg of syabu, 6,969 yaba pills, 15 ecstasy pills and 1.73kg of ketamine.
Also seized were seven vehicles and a motorcycle which were used to smuggle drugs to the syndicate in Kelantan.
Noor Rashid said the suspects were remanded for a week to facilitate investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
