I'm laughing my head off over this Doctor Sankey guy treating Bush and complimenting him on his 'classic torso' and Bush thinking what on earth the man is on about.
It's like a scene from an O'Brian novel

The Government Museum in Bangalore, in Cubbon Park on the Kasturba Road side, is the first museum I remember seeing in this city. It has been a fascinating building, as a child and even now as an adult.
The building, a classic ‘Greco-Roman’ structure was designed by a Col. RH Sankey (yes, the same man as the tank), it has the tall pillars, the roman faces above the arched windows and doors, the spiral staircases and is painted a bright red colour. The same red as the High Court, or Attara Kacheri as it was known before, and built on the same axis as well, with an avenue of fig lined trees in between them. The fig trees are gone, but there are some nice honge mara’s as well as a statue of Mark Cubbon and Band Stand on the avenue now.
The building was completed in 1878 (the first museum in India as by our understanding of a museum today was the Indian Museum in Kolkata, built in 1814). They added another wing in 1962; if you stand opposite the buildings and look up, you can see the dates of their constructions inside a large circular medallion. A photograph of the same shall be attempted on a cloudy day, when the sun is not shining down on the structure.
At that time, the museum’s collection included carvings from the Halebid Temples, Roman Coins and Mysore Coins, Arms and Armoury used by Haider Ali and Tipu Sultan, as well as the Begur Stones, which are still some of the most interesting objects at the museum (More on them later!)
Both the building, and the collection are true to its colonial roots, an attempt to categorise and collect objects from the nearby regions to understand its culture and history. The collection ranges from archaeological finds, to weapons, to stone sculptures, brass decorative objects, Mysore paintings and a very silent collection of musical instruments. We shall decode as much as possible as we walk through the rest of the museum.
Dr. E. Balfour, who also founded the Government Central Museum in Chennai, was instrumental in setting up the museum in Bangalore. The man is especially interesting because he kept a record of all the visitors who came to the museum and wanted to ‘open the museum to all classes’ as well as have objects to ‘amuse and instruct all classes’. One does wonder what he meant by class, and how truly open museums are to the all sections of our present society in India.

Dr Tully's House by National Library of Ireland on The Commons 1888, my grandad Sankey was 12 yrs old
Via Flickr:
An eviction on the land of the Marquis of Clanricarde at Woodford, Co.Galway. Farmer and boatbuilder, Francis Tully, known locally as “Dr Tully”, was an activist for the Plan of Campaign in Galway. The Plan of Campaign was an attempt to gain lower rents through collective bargaining, because prices for agricultural exports had fallen dramatically in the 1880s. Maud Gonne agitated for change by projecting images like this one onto a building in Parnell Square, Dublin. Read through the comments below for fantastic background to this photo... Date: Saturday, 1 September 1888 NLI Ref.: L_ROY_02482
The eviction campaign of Lord Clanricarde’s Woodford estate was brought to a close on Saturday, after an exciting struggle. The force, under the command of Mr Byrne, Divisional Magistrate, left Clondegoff Castle early in the morning, and arrived at the house of Dr Tully, who was prominent in the action brought by Mr Wilfred Blunt against Divisional Magistrate Byrne, and whom it was now sought to evict. The military and the police formed a circle round the house, which was protected by earthworks and held by a number of men who were reported to be determined to offer the most determined resistance. The emergency men were first first ordered to remove the earthworks, but they were afterwards withdrawn, and it was resolved to enter the house by the roof. Large scaling ladders were used, and the defenders then made holes in the roof for the purpose of repelling the attack, but in doing so they played completely into the hands of the attacking party, for immediately District Inspector Murphy and several constables made a rush up the ladders and forced their way through the roof. The men inside endeavoured to throw down the ladders with long hayforks, but without avail. A large opening was made in the roof , and through it Inspector Murphy conveyed fourteen prisoners – twelve men and two girls. The last prisoner brought out was Dr. Tully himself. He was brought out in a prostrate condition, handcuffed, and exclaimed that he had been struck with the end of a policeman’s rifle. Owing to his condition, Father Coey, parish priest, was sent for, and to him Dr. Tully stated that had it not been for the interference of Inspector Murphy the police would have killed him. The next house visited was of a man name Toohey. The premises were barricaded, but soon gave way before the crowbars of the emergency men. The defenders threw boiling water upon the attacking party, and the police arrested five men who were found in the house. The evictions having been completed, the police and military withdrew. Several men who were in Dr. Tully’s house are stated to have received bayonet wounds, principally in the face

Short Name: P. P. Bliss
Full Name: Bliss, P. P. (Philip Paul), 1838-1876
Birth Year:1838
Death Year:1876
Bliss, Philip, b. at Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, July 9, 1838. In 1864 he went to Chicago in the employ of Dr. George F. Root, the musician, where he was engaged in conducting musical Institutes, and in composing Sunday School melodies. Originally a Methodist, he became, about 1871, a choirman of the First Congregational Church, Chicago, and the Superintendent of its Sunday Schools. In 1874 he joined D. W. Whittle in evangelical work. To this cause he gave (although a poor man) the royalty of his Gospel Songs, which was worth some thirty thousand dollars. His death was sudden. It occurred in the railway disaster at Ashtabula, Ohio, Dec. 30, 1876. ... Some of his verses have obtained wide popularity in most English-speaking countries. The more widely known, and specially those which are found in collections in use in G. Britain, are in the following American works:—
1. I should like to die. Death anticipated. This is one of his earliest compositions, and is unworthy of the position it holds.
2. Through the valley of the shadow I must go. Death anticipated.
3. Whosoever heareth, shout, shout the sound. Jesus the Way. Written during the winter of 1869-70 after hearing Mr. H. Moorhouse (from England) preach on St. John iii. 16.
4. Almost persuaded now to believe. Procrastination. This was suggested by the following passage in a sermon by the Rev. Mr. Brundnge, Bliss being present at its delivery:—" He who is almost persuaded is almost saved, but to be almost saved is to be entirely lost."
5. Ho! my comrades! see the signal. Faithfulness.
6. O! Jerusalem, the golden city, bright, &c. Heaven.
7. On what Foundation do [did] you build? Christ the Foundation.
8. Light in the darkness, sailor, day is at hand. Safety. This hymn, “The Life-Boat," has attained to great popularity. The incident upon which it is based, that of the rescue of a ship's crew by a life-boat, is given in detail by Mr. Sankey in his Sacred Songs, &c, No. 99 (large ed.). It is sometimes known by its refrain, "Pull for the shore," &c.
9. In me ye may have peace. Peace.
10. To die is gain. Death anticipated.
11. Down life's dark vale we wander. Death anticipated.
12. More holiness give me. For Holiness.
13. Only an armour-bearer. Soldiers of the Cross.
14. Standing by a purpose true. Faithfulness.
15. This loving Saviour stands patiently. Invitation.
16. A long time I wandered. Peace and Joy.
17. Brightly beams our Father's mercy. Mercy.
18. Come, brethren, as we march along. Praise.
19. Free from the law, O happy condition. Redemption.
20. Have you on the Lord believed? Fullness of Grace. This hymn arose out of the following circumstances :—" A vast fortune was left in the hands of a minister for one of his poor parishioners. Fearing that it might be sqmandered if suddenly bestowed upon him, the wise minister sent him a little at a time, with a note saying, “This is thine; use it wisely; there is more to follow.” Hence also the refrain ‘More to follow,’ by which the hymn is known."
21. How much owest thou? Divine Claims.
22. I know not the hour when my Lord will come. Death anticipated. Suggested by reading the book, The Gates Ajar.
23. See the gentle Shepherd standing. The Good Shepherd.
24. Though the way be sometimes dreary. Divine Leading.
25. Will you meet me at the fountain? Fountain of Living Water. The incident out of which this hymn arose is thus stated in The Christian, No. 365, "At the Industrial Exposition at Chicago it was an everyday appointment to meet at the Central Fountain. Mr. P. P. Bliss, whose mind seemed always set on things above, caught up the words, and wrote this hymn, 'Meet me at the Fountain.'"
26. One offer of salvation. The Name of Jesus.
27. Wandering afar from the dwellings of men. The Lepers.
28. Weary gleaner, whence comest thou? Duty.
29. The whole world was lost in the darkness of Sin. Light of the world.
30. Man of sorrows! what a name. Redemption.
31. The Spirit, O sinner, in mercy doth move. Holy Spirit.
32. At the feet of Jesus. The good choice.
33. Come, sing the Gospel's joyful sound. Salvation.
34. Cut it down, cut it down. Justice and Mercy.
35. Do you see the Hebrew captive? Prayer.
36. Hallelujah, He is risen. Easier. Written in the spring of 1876 and first sung by Bliss on Easter afternoon, 1876, in the Court House Square, Augusta, Georgia, to 5900 people.
37. In Zion's rock abiding. Safety.
38. Repeat the story o'er and o'er. Grace and Peace.
39. Tenderly the Shepherd. The Good Shepherd.
40. Hear ye the glad good news from heaven. Faith and Salvation.
41. I will sing of my Redeemer. Praise.
42. 'Tis known on earth and heaven too. More about Jesus.
43. Sing over again to me. Words of Life. This appeared in a paper entitled Words of Life, 1874, The following are undated:—
44. March to the battle-field. Duty and Victory.
45. There is sin in the camp. Hinderances.
46. 'Tis the promise of God. Praise.
47. While the silvery moon-beams, fall, New Birth.
48. God is always near me. Omnipresence.
Two hymns," I am so glad that our Father in heaven," and " Sowing the seed by the daylight [dawnlight] fair," (sometimes given as " Sowing our seed in the morning fair ") are usually attributed to Mr. Bliss. In his Gospel Songs, Cincinnati, 1874, however, he lays claim to the music only. Mr. Sankey attributes this last to "E. A. Oakey." With the exception of No. 48, these hymns are given in Mr. Sankey's Sacred Songs & Solos, Pts. i. and ii. Their popularity is far beyond their literary merits, and is mainly due to the simple melodies to which they are wedded. As a writer of hymns of this class Mr. Bliss is second only to Mrs. Van Alstyne. Many anecdotes concerning hymns of this class are given in American Evangelists; an Account of their work in England and America, by the Rev. Elias Nason, Boston, U.S., Lathrop & Co., 1877.
Mr. Bliss is usually known as "P. P. Bliss." This is found on the title-pages of his collections. On his own authority, however, we are enabled to say that his name originally stood thus : “Philipp Bliss.” Early in life he separated the final p from his Christian name, constituted it a capital P, and thus produced "P. P. Bliss." (For this article we are mainly indebted to Professor F. M. Bird, and Mr. H. P. Main.)

WHO's responsibility is put on the shelf, and Tedros's secretary general criticizing Taiwan points out that it is a Chinese conspiracy
WHO Executive Director Tedross (ITU Pictures from Geneva, Switzerland/Wikimedia Commons)
∙ The number of new infected people in the new Corona is more than 250,000 worldwide every day and more than 1,000 in Japan. Meanwhile, as of the end of July, Taiwan has recorded 100 domestic infections (excluding returnees) for 110 days. A total of 474 people have been infected and only 7 have died. Such Taiwan is in conflict with the World Health Organization (WHO) Executive Secretary Tedros.
***
Taiwan was able to contain the coronavirus because of its early start, measures at the waterfront, mass production of masks, etc. This is a big deal since the number of infected people has continued to be limited to Japan since April 13th.
"56 days after that, on June 7, a safety declaration was issued. The incubation period of Corona was 14 days, 56 days was 4 cool infections zero. With that, you saw that it was completely converged. When riding a train or bus, it was obliged to wear a mask, and a violation of 15,000 yuan (54,000 yen) was fined, but it was also lifted. 60% still wear masks."
Mr. Shigeta Fujita, a former Taiwanese economic department think tank advisor and representative of Asian Market Development Co., Ltd., explains. He graduated from Taiwan University Faculty of International Trade. He has lived in Taiwan for 34 years, and recently published "Taiwanese Corona Battle I Want to Let Parliament Members Read" (Sankei Shimbun Publishing).
“Taiwan, which entered the mask production system as a measure against corona, became the world's second largest mask producer after China. On April 1, President Tsai Ing-wen said at a press conference, “Watch out for the spread of global infections. We will promote quarantine cooperation with each country.”, 2 million masks in the United States, 7 million in Europe such as Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, 1 million in countries that have diplomatic relations with Taiwan, 200 in Japan. We started a donation activity to send millions of copies."
Chinese conspiracy
However, as if to restrain Taiwan's movements, the WHO Executive Secretary Tedros suddenly criticized Taiwan on April 8th.
"Tedros said in a press conference, "I've been under racist attacks (online) for more than three months, and that's from Taiwan. I knew Taiwan's foreign affairs, did nothing, but rather criticized me. In response, the Taiwanese side objected to the fact that the fact was "rootless" and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanded an apology for this "slander."
President Tsai Ing-wen wrote on Facebook the following day, 9th.
<< Taiwan has long been excluded from international organizations and knows the taste of discrimination and isolation more than anyone else. I would like Tedros to come to Taiwan and see how Taiwan strives to contribute to the international community despite discrimination.”
"The investigation department of the Ministry of Justice, which is an investigative agency in Taiwan, argues that the basis for the slander from Taiwan to the Tedros Secretary was not found. After that, I apologize to Twitter as "Taiwanese," Mr. Tedros, sorry. More than 100 posts were posted to Mr. Tedros, but I have found that they are from the Chinese mainland. The investigation station said, "A fake post by the Chinese side disguised as a Taiwanese person, It is a conspiracy that makes the Taiwanese side appear to have acknowledged the attack.” Racist writing to Secretary-General Tedros is also likely to be a Chinese work. Secretary-General Tedros is from Ethiopia. , China has invested heavily in Ethiopia, and it's clear to anyone that he criticizes Taiwan in China's accord," he said.
When Taiwan argued, a spokesman for the Taiwanese Attorney's Office of the State Council of the Chinese government said this time.
"The Democratic Party uses the corona problem and is willing to resort to Taiwan independence. It allows its own net forces to spread discriminatory speech at will."
WHO ignores Taiwanese report
"Angry Taiwan released a mail at a press conference at the Central Infectious Diseases Command Center on April 11th, telling WHO that Wuhan is treating patients with pneumonia in isolation on December 31st last year. "(same)
It was on December 31 that China announced that 27 cases of pneumonia of unknown cause were confirmed in Wuhan, of which 7 cases were severe.
"On the 30th of the day before that, Dr. Li Wenling of Wuhan warned of the outbreak of a new type of viral pneumonia in a post on SNS. The post attached an inspection report and an image of chest CT. Taiwan Sanitation Welfare A spokeswoman for the Department of Disease Control (CDC), Raichi Yan, saw Dr Lee's post on 31st and reported to WHO the same day. It is said that the medical treatment specialist suspects that isolation is a person-to-person transmission, but the WHO reports in Taiwan. I completely ignored it."
WHO also announced in a statement on January 14 that "person-to-person transmission has not been confirmed."
"Taiwan had been an observer at the WHO General Assembly because the Ma Ying-jeou administration of the KMT, which lasted from 2009 to 2016, was on a harmony route with China. Observers are no longer available and it is clear that China is behind the scenes."
There is no reason to say that WHO's ignoring Taiwan's report was one of the causes of the corona's pandemic.
"If WHO was able to report Taiwan's report to the world, it is possible that the blockade of borders could have occurred at an early stage to prevent the explosive spread of infection as it is now. Taiwan was ignored by WHO January 2 The Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare held an infectious disease prevention and treatment advisory committee to launch measures against corona, and the speed of this initial action is a major factor in containing corona.”
After all, I must say that Tedross's responsibility is serious.
