mob psych 100 manga review:

overall pretty good. i tore through the volumes in a few hours. the tone and themes always felt consistent. i wasnt that into the art style at first but it was expressive and dramatic where it needed to be.

i liked the characters well enough but a lot of them didnt get used to their potential.

a student investigator in a town with weird phenomena could have been cool but she was just a mob fangirl.

a psychic fangirl who was interested in aliens could have been interesting but she was just a background decoration until one arc toward the end.

scars and powerful espers introduced just to get beaten in one chapter. like that puppet girl with 4 lines. and her buddy whos main characteristic was being a psychic who's a woman.

teru and ritsu especially could have been cool ongoing rivals but they became so passive after their arcs.

reigen pretty strong character the whole time, i understand the appeal.

i know a lot of my interpretation comes from reading it so fast. when i watch the anime im sure those characters will feel much more significant when given proper pacing that i cant speed thru.

if they make any changes i hope they have umbrella guy and alien girl join the psychic agency sooner.

and that they dont yadda yadda over the city being destroyed. show the espers putting the bricks back together or something.

#i think shigeo's crush and the improvement club were used the exact right amount #im so happy the boys were genuine friends and not bullies #significant but not too important #and the crush had actual admirable traits #i liked moments when reigen successfully tricked people into thinking hes the boss #or he manages to outsmart an esper by being normal #that arc where he was humiliated sucked #i liked the arc with eyebrow dad #and the arc with the possessed rich girl #the chapter fighting the scarecrow was cool #and dimple #i liked seeingwhat entry level jobs the scars got. i genuinely love the shonen trope of defeated enemies becoming immediately friends.#dove reads mob100
