Ressler.
I felt as if my world was falling appart little by little. Maybe not so dramatically, but a lot of the things I used to believe suddenly weren't real, Reddington wasn't Reddington, and Reddington wasn't a traitor. Two of the things that defined the beginning of my career in the FBI were no longer the things that defined me.
I felt as if the whole idea of Agent Ressler wasn't necessary. The one reason I was here, being the Commander in Chief for Reddington's case, was no more. There was no Reddington.
I'd let it slip after the briefing of a case that I knew Reddington was an imposter by doubting everything he did, and after the persuit of a tape recording, I got to hear in first row how Reddington had been framed.
I'd been called in as a witness for his trial to explain the Intel I had that made us reach the conclusion that he was a spy and had betrayed us. I attempted to not perjure myself, I really tried, but Liz needed answers. And so did I.
Reddington must've caught up on my attempt, and he asked me why I'd hesitated.
After hearing the tape, I felt half relieved that he was going to be taken out of the death penalty, the jury was going to rule to his favor, I knew that.
James had giving me a call earlier in the week, saying he was going to buy me a drink to celebrate Reddington's capture, and I thought after the trial would be a good time as any.
That was my first mistake, because when he made the connection of me having to testify for being head point in Reddington's case, he asked me about the trial.
"You know I can't say anything" I said, taking my beer bottle and giving him a side look.
"I know you can't. But you can not say it." I gave him a frown and shook my head.
"That's a bad idea"
"You can pat me down, I'm not wearing a wire" he said patting his chest.
"It's not because of that" I dismissed him.
"Why was the trial suddenly closed? It was supposed to be aired"
"Of that I actually have no idea" I said convincingly lying. I knew why the trial had been closed, it was for the immunity agreement and the current deal with the FBI and our taskforce. "Believe me, I was the first one eager to be there for the whole thing. I was very angry when it got shut down"
"But you got to see a little bit of it, you got called to testify"
"Yes" i said with a nod.
"And?"
"I testified" I nodded again. He gave me a chuckle and a shake of his head.
"You're seriously not going to say anything"
"I seriously am, I don't want to go to jail, my daughter's second birthday is in a few weeks"
"Oh yeah" he said in realization. I knew Maggie had invited him. "Still have to buy her something. You can give me a hint about that" he said with a chuckle.
"Give her something with a penguin on it, she'll love it"
"She likes penguins?"
"Yeah, it's somehow her favorite animal"
My eyes diverted to the TV on the wall, Reddington's face was on the screen and in the breaking news segment of every news channel. And of course, they talked about the lastest development, the non-guilty sentence on his traitor count.
James' flashed me a twist of eyebrows and a shake of his head.
"Son of a bitch did it. Unbelievable" he took a sip of his beer, finishing it and motioning at the bartender to give him another on. "How could he honestly?"
"It's not like he had a tape recording of him saying he didn't do it" I said.
"Haha, imagine" he chuckled. It took him a while to actually realize that I'd told him the key piece of evidence that was presented. He gave me a bewildered look, frowning in confusion.
"That's...." He scoffed "that's not possible. Not to sway the ruling like that. It can be that exculpatory"
I shrugged and finished my beer, fishing my phone out of my pocket. I looked at the screen, Maggie's face filling the screen.
"I have to go, but I'll see you in the birthday" I said patting James' back and heading out, picking up the call as I exited the bar. "Maggie" I saluted.
"Hey, are you on your way home?"
"Yeah, I just finished here"
"Good, because I kind of need some help" she said with a tired sigh.
"On my way" I said, then hung up.
Mags was definitely busier than me, she was working on a project all by herself, because it was that important, and the rest of the projects were left on hold. Her routine quickly went back to her being at her office at the house with a lot of blueprints, books she was reading for research, calls at all times, drawings, samples, boxes on top of boxes of materials. She couldn't necessarily tell me what she was working on, but it seemed important.
On top of her work, she'd been planning things for Alma's birthday, and now that she was older she put her two cents in every decision.
I arrived at the house and went straight to the office were Mags was walking around the room with the phone to her ear, whilst I waited for her to finish I changed out of my suit, and she found me when I was finishing with my shirt.
"Hey, I need you to pick up some things from the woman that's got the souvenirs for me, and be careful because it's like a-" she made a motion with her hand "it's glass, so be careful"
Maggie definitely didn't look like herself, she was as hectic as when she was with the casino project.
"Right" I nodded.
"And there's some samples I need to pick up from some other place if you could pick that one up, that would help"
"Okay" I nodded again.
"And I love the kid to death but if you could take her and just-" she sighed "I need peace for like two hours."
"Okay love, whatever you need"
"Thank you" she said with a sigh, then exited the room, I followed and looked for Alma on the way, she was in her bedroom, making a mess out of her toys.
"Hey" I called, she turned around and gave me a sheepish smile "let's get changed, we're going out"
She squealed in excitement, and headed to the drawer to pick something to wear. Honestly she had a better sense of style that Maggie and I combined, so I just let her pick a dress because we were in the dead of summer, and helped her with some sandals.
"Alright, let's go" I said pulling her on her feet and motioning at the door.
"I'm saying bye to mommy" she yelled as she ran out of the room, I walked behind her and watched her barge into the office, then began a string of 'mommies' until Maggie paid attention to her. I reached the door office and saw Maggie bend over and cover her phone with her hand.
"Yes, what" she asked
"Bye" Alma replied.
"Bye love" she kissed her forehead and looked up at me.
"Give daddy a kiss" she said pointing back at me.
"No, Alma let's let Mom work" she threw her head back and I walked to her, picking her up in my arms, she began complaining and Maggie complied kissing me quickly.
"There, now go, have fun" she said motioning at the door.
"Bye" Alma said waving her hand as I walked out of the room, closing the door behind me.
I didn't know why Alma always made Maggie kiss me, at first she was very jealous of me and would want Mags as far away as possible, but now she was all about the romanticism. I strapped her in the car seat and rolled out to the city. Mags had sent me the addresses of the things I needed to pick up, and after I did that in maybe half an hour, I took Alma to the mall and the kid's playground for a while.
Somehow even after I did all that and took Alma to the playground and made her play in every single one of the games, we still had one hour to go, and even though I wanted to give her more time to finish with her work, there was so much I could do with the kid.
We walked around the mall, I bought her another book, I bought her some candy, then she sadly saw the toy store and we lost a good half an hour there. I always bought her something if we were out, but she had so many toys that she honestly didn't need any more. Maggie donated often the ones she didn't get to use or the ones that she was too old to play with, and even then she had way too many. I think we could've gone to three vacations with the money we spent on things for the baby.
I quickly reminded myself of our last vacations, and it felt as if we'd just gone to Miami a few weeks ago, work had consumed my time in ways inimaginable.
At one point we were walking down the mall towards the parking lot, I had a watchful eye on Alma because she didn't feel like behind carried, and someone bent over next to her with an enthusiastic cheer. I looked closely to see one of Mag's friends, one of the many, saying hi to Alma. She looked up at me with a smile.
"Hi Don" she saluted, then looked back at Alma "hi princess, how are you?"
"Fine" she replied. She awed at her and leaned in to cup her cheeks and kiss her in the forehead.
"Just saw you guys and came to say hi" she said finally standing up and giving us both a look "say hi to Maggie for me"
"Will do, bye Crystal" I saluted, seeing Alma walk around her and take off. After a bit of walking and almost reaching the parking lot I pulled Alma up, because I didn't want her run around with cars nearby.
"Who's Maggie?" She asked out of nowhere as I reached the car and unlocked it.
"What do you mean who's Maggie?" I opened the door and sat her down at the car seat. "Maggie is your mom" I explained.
"Nah-ah" she said shaking her head. That type of denial she'd gotten it from Nathan in the off times they were together, even though he was like 8 years old now.
"Ye-ah" I said imitating her tone.
"Nah-ah" she said, now more angry, she had an incredible temper for a two year old.
"Yeah, that's her name"
"She's mommy"
"Nah-ah" I said, with a chuckle. I finished with her seatbelt and got into the car, hearing the beginning of a fit. Alma's fits were mostly just fake crying with her head thrown back and staying still until someone came to try and calm her down. She wasn't the type to trash around and scream at the top of her lungs, at least not for now.
I gave in to the joke after she cried all the way out of the parking lot, and she  usually forgot what she was crying about when we got moving and she got distracted looking outside, but I wasn't about to get yelled at by Mags for making the baby cry on purpose, so I just told her okay, that she was right, and she instantly stopped crying.
I turned on the radio to some music and saw her move after a while to the songs, and she continued until we reached the house.
Alma instantly dashed in, probably to tell on me to Mags, and I busied myself taking out the things from the trunk.
"Hey" I heard Mags from the garage door as I took the box with her samples and placed it at my feet "what's with you making her mad?" She asked, I lifted my eyes to her holding Alma on her arms. Mags was just following along, and Alma looked at me, kind of ducking my gaze for making Maggie scold me.
"I'm sorry" I said.
"I'm going to put you on time out, don't make the baby cry" she said, giving me a wink.
"Okay, I'll stop making her mad"
Maggie looked down at Alma, and she hugged herself to Mag's neck, landing her cheek on her shoulder.
"Are those my samples?" She asked. I closed the trunk and took the box again.
"Yes love"
"Nice" she said giving it a quick inspection "can you put it in my office please, I'll check it now before I make dinner" she said walking out of the garage, I followed and talked with her as we reached the office.
"I can take care of that if you'd like" I offered. Mags looked back at me and motioned at the floor. I heard her phone go off just as I was setting the box down, she picked it up and got right back to it.
I was kind of unnerved when I saw a video playing on her computer, and as  she took a piece of tile that she was supposed to match with the one in the video, the camera panned up and focused on the face of a man that I recognized.
He wasn't a particular big deal but I knew for a fact that he was in the list of people that James and the taskforce I used to work on was after.
I didn't know how to react, I couldn't step in to help, and couldn't step in to tell Maggie not to help. I just wished that she wasn't the kind of professional people turned to for an opinion or work.
I wasn't paying attention to the conversation because I knew that would confirm what I suspected. She hung up and patted Alma on her back, she didn't look like she was going anywhere, and Mags had her on arms as she finished with some details.
"I'll take your offer on dinner" she said pressing play on the video again.
"Roger" I said, turning around and walking out of the room.
Making dinner was easy during the summer, and I got that ready in half an hour. Mags finally made it out of the cave and sat Alma on the high chair of the dining room, then walking a few steps to the kitchen to help.
"Are you done?" I said, trying to sound casual.
"Yeah, at least for what I can do today" she said taking a few plates from the cupboard.
I followed with the food as she finished with the glasses and the other things, then gave me a funny look as I served her.
"Okay, Gordon Ramsey" she said, inspecting the plate "any other hidden talents I should know about?"
"There's many, but I like to keep it interesting" she chuckled, then sat at the table. To be fair, cooking was just following instructions, it wasn't hard to cook something watching a ten minute video on YouTube.
I spent a few minutes looking at Mags sort food for Alma, thankfully she was not picky about the food, she ate just about everything, then she looked at me,  checking that I hadn't served myself anything.
"You're not eating?" She asked, getting to her plate.
"No" I said, she frowned and gave me another look.
"Why?"
"I'm not in the mood" I dismissed. She pouted, then moved her chair to sit closer to me, being a little restricted by the corner of the table.
"Are you okay?" She said placing her hand on my temple.
"Yeah, I guess" I shook my head and took her hand in mine, watching her reluctantly start eating. "I'm just... Disappointed I guess. I mean, first Reddington is not Reddington and now he's not even a traitor. That's the two things that defined my job and basically my career path and now... It doesn't even matter."
"It's not like it doesn't matter" she said, giving my hand a squeeze. "I'm sure you'll get to the bottom of it"
"I can try" I said with a chuckle. "Don't know how far I'm going to get, being about Reddington"
"I think you'll get far enough" she assured.
"You have a lot of faith in me"
"One of us has to" I looked at her with a smile, then leaned to kiss her hand.
This woman was just so damn precious to me.
"I'd like you to be careful" I said before she finished with dinner.
"I'd like you to not spy on me" she said with a chuckle, knowing that I had seen what she was working on. "I also-" she said standing up and walking up to where I was sitting, she threw her leg over my lap and straddled me. "Would like a back massage" She rounded my neck with her arms, and I quietly placed my hand on her waist. "I've been working hard"
"I guess I can do that. I've been your slave all day" I jokingly complained, she opened her mouth in a surprised gesture.
"I thought you would enjoy giving me a back massage"
"Oh, so it's a favor to me then?"
"Yeah" she said with a chuckle, I laughed with her and hugged her by the waist, I pulled her in and kissed her on her neck, hugging her fully. I felt her caress on the back of my ear, and honestly it was my favorite spot. I gave a comfort sigh  and placed my chin on her shoulder. When my eyes landed on Alma I chuckled, she was passed out on the high chair.
Mags pulled back and looked behind her, she laughed as well, standing up from my lap and heading to her she carefully moved the tray forward and pulled Alma up, she was startled at first but Mags shushed her and held her to her chest, patting her on the back.
I cleaned up the table and filled the dishwasher, finding Mags cutting the corner just as I was leaving the kitchen. Mags quietly checked that everything was set, then turned off the lights and we both walked towards the bedroom.
"Why did you make Alma mad?" She asked out of nowhere as I was moving my thumbs on both sides of her neck along the spine.
"She found out that your real name isn't 'mommy'"
She chuckled and turned her body to me, rubbing her neck. She placed her hand on my thigh and patted it.
"Are you okay?" I nodded with my head "you don't need anything?".
"I'm good love".
She gave me a tight lipped smile and moved to lay on the bed, covering herself with just a sheet.
"I have the next few days off to help you with the birthday if you want" I said, laying on the bed myself.
"That would be nice" she said with a sigh, I gave her a quick look, she had her eyes closed and was hugging a little pillow.
I didn't sleep much that night. Reddington may have won this battle, but I wasn't so sure he was going to win this war.

Maggie.
It never got easier. It never got easier for Don to see friends and loved ones be hurt, and it never got easier for me to see him like that.
I stared at him for a full minute, watching him talk to Cooper, feeling so defeated about Samar and not being able to help her. I knew he was trying hard but couldn't contain his tears to fill up on his eyes. When Cooper walked away, I resumed my walk to him, leading my hand to grab his before he repaired on my presence.
"Hey" I said quietly, not wanting to look in the room, because I knew I wasn't going to be able to hold my own tears "how are you?"
He didn't say anything, just leaned in to hug me, I held him by the shoulders and sighed, feeling him tense on my arms.
"You know how I get" he said in a little voice.
"I know" I replied, rubbing his back.
I think that the situation with Samar was different for him than how it was with Liz when she got hospitalized. Samar had been his partner for a while, they'd fought together and eachother, she came with Aram once a month at the house for dinner, we were all good friends. And now he didn't have the excuse of blaming Tom Keen for what had happened with Liz. Samar's accident had been under their watch, I knew it was going to be harder for him and for Aram to shake the guilt out of this one.
I pulled back and held him by the shoulders. He cleared his throat and rubbed his eyes, clearly wanting to look though.
"What do you know?" I asked, finally looking in. Samar looked half normal, the other half being her on a ventilator. Aram was just being Aram, painfully optimistic, or at least trying to be.
"Nothing good. She's on a ventilator but they don't know for how long. And we will find out about her state if and when she wakes up"
I bit my bottom lip and tore my eyes off the window, I sighed and looked at my watch.
"I have to go to work but" I placed my hand on his forearm "call me later okay?"
"I'm going home" he said with a shake of his head "I'll see you tonight."
I leaned in to give him a short kiss, then headed to work.
Samar was luckily not in a ventilator or in a coma for long, but after she woke up, things with Don and the cases slowed down a bit, so he got to spend a few weeks at home.
I was checking on some prints I had to review before the weekend, and sometimes hours at work weren't enough to get everything that I needed to do cleared, so I often took work home.
"Mags" I heard the door knock behind me, I turned around on the chair when I heard the door open "are you busy?" Don's head peaked in.
"Hey, this'll take me-" I took a look around and through my papers "an hour maybe. Why?"
"Just checking" he said from the door, opening it a bit more.
"And Alma? You tired of hanging out with her?" I said moving my eyes to my papers again, getting ready to return to work.
"If I have to hear that frozen song one more time-" he said, entering the room and dragging a chair to sit down next to me. I gave him a chuckle.
"I have nightmares with that song"
"There's a second one coming up"
"Oh Jesus" I said with fake annoyance. I obviously loved to see my daughter act out the movie and sing and dress herself like Elsa.
I gave him a look after he sat next to me.
"Any chance they'll tell you when they're going to want you back?" He gave me a pout with a shrug of his shoulder.
"Another week maybe. Samar is having a wellness check next week to see if she's cleared for duty"
"Mm" I hummed and returned to the papers.
"Why is that whole text in French?" He said looking at the computer, I gave the screen a quick look before I continued.
"It's from a French client obviously"
"And why don't you translate it?"
I lifted my eyes to his with a cocked eyebrow.
"Because I know French"
He laughed, shaking his head. "Since when?"
"Since two years ago, when I was finishing the casino project and still pregnant with Alma the firm gave out French courses and I took them because I couldn't go to work. I got my certificate last month"
"I don't believe you. Say something"
I don't know why, it was like a spell when someone asked me to say something in another language, I instantly forgot everything I knew.
"Tu est le plus bel homme que j'ai vu dans ma vie entière" I said.
"That doesn't sound nice" I let my mouth fall agape and chuckled.
"I said you're the most beautiful man I've ever seen"
"That's a lie"
"Yeah, there's also Chris Hemsworth" I joked, that made him laugh. I laughed as well, shaking my head and looking back at the papers. I felt his hand on my shoulder, giving it a squeeze.
"I love you, you know" I tore my eyes from the papers again, giving him a smile and taking his hand in mine.
"I love you too Don" he pressed his lips in a thin line, rubbing my hand with his thumb.
"You know, things have been happening at the taskforce, and with Samar in the hospital, I've been holding onto hope that nothing was going to happen to me, or you"
I took his hand between both of mine and leaned to him.
"Nothing is going to happen to me" I assured "and I'm sure whatever has been happening at the taskforce, you'll be smart enough to avoid being involved"
"It's something about Reddington" he confided.
"It's always something about him. And I know you'll want answers." I patted his hand "just be careful"
He nodded, leaning in to grab my face and give me a kiss.
"I'll let you finish here" he said, finally standing from the chair and walking out of the office.
After Samar came back, Don still didn't tell me what was the thing that had him so eager to get answers. I didn't expect him to walk in the house angry one of those days, because he never got angry enough to drag it all the way home.
It started when the door of the garage banged shut, and Alma jumped a little startled, we were in the living room, I was finishing something on the computer and she was down with a coloring book in the mat in front of me.
Don walked in, taking out his badge and throwing it on the kitchen island behind us.
"Don?" I asked, looking over my shoulder, he walked across the kitchen towards the living room "what happened?"
"I had a suspect ran away from me after he shot up a person" he said taking the remote and turning on the TV.
"-most wanted fugitive Raymond Reddington, was arrested in New York this afternoon, after police officers responded to an anonymous tip"
"And then that" he said throwing the control on the couch. I shut down the laptop and left it on my side.
"So what... It's over?"
"Yeah, pretty much, we can't get him out of the system, and the taskforce is concealed from public knowledge. Do you know what's worst? Keen though I did it." He let out a dry chuckle "I know I hate the guy, but why should I wait more than six years before I decided to bring him in. Why would I do it on the first place?"
"I understand why you're upset" I said with a nod, he walked around the couch and sat next to me
"And she said that she knows I'm not sad about it. I am not sad about it, but I don't prefer it. I don't want the taskforce to shut down" he said, looking into his pocket with his hand. He looked at the phone and sighed, rubbing a hand on his hair. "Ressler" he replied. "yeah, I saw." He continued talking, sitting back on the couch with a defeated sigh "of course I'm happy. I'm just not the one who caught him" he save me a look, then muttered that it was James.
He has probably watched the news and called Don to tell him the good news. As far as James knew, Don had been in the Reddington taskforce, that information wasn't concealed from his record, and James must've probably checked that out long ago when they first met.
They continued talking, Don pretended to not be mad, and agreed to have some celebratory beers in a few days. When he hung up, he threw the phone in the couch and sighed angry again.
Alma was definitely not used to seeing Don angry, hell, I wasn't used to seeing Don angry. So she just sat there looking between him and me, not daring to do anything, just holding her hands together in discomfort.
"She's never seen you angry" I whispered to him. He looked at me questioningly, then down at Alma.
"Hey cupcake" he leaned and motioned at Alma with his hand "come here"
Alma stood up, then carefully walked to him. Don took her in his arms and sat her down at his lap.
"Daddy anwy"
"Dad is a little angry" Don confirmed "but I'm fine now"
"Ine?" She asked.
"Yes, I'm fine cupcake" he said caressing her cheek. Alma shrugged off of his lap and walked a few steps to her toys, getting busy again.
Don continued working with the taskforce, as far as I knew Raymond could still give him cases. He followed up with them for a while. He never really said what was happening with Raymond, how he was doing in jail, if they were going to be able to help him.
He came home one of those days, I was getting a snack ready for Alma when he walked into the kitchen.
"Hey love" I saluted. He gave me a smile, then grabbed me by the neck and kissed me, I smiled over his lips and kissed him more, placing my hands on top of his.
"Hi" he saluted as he pulled back, moving his hands to my waist and pulling me in.
"How are you?" I ran my hand in his neck and caressed his cheek.
"Mm, someone told me today I'm pushing forty with no prospects" he flashed his eyebrows and leaned in for another short kiss "she obviously forgot that I have you" I smiled, he left my waist and walked around me towards the fridge.
"Why would someone tell you that?"
"Mm" he hummed after taking a carton of milk and taking a glass from the cupboard "Keen and I were talking about a wedding I have to go to-"
"A wedding?"
"And she told me about this girl I could take, as if I wouldn't take you instead"
"Whose wedding?" I pushed. He gave me a dismissing wave of his hand as he poured milk in the glass.
"Some cousin I have, she hates cops though, so I'm not going"
"That's stupid, if she gave you an invitation-"
"We're not going" I pouted, he gave me a chuckle and stored away the milk.
A few days later, after we had finished with our day and I was done brushing my teeth and exited the bathroom when I saw him, sitting at the side of the bed with just his boxers on. What a sight indeed.
"Why aren't you in bed?" I asked walking to the bed.
"I was waiting for you to bring that" he motioned at me as he set his phone in the nightstand charging.
"Bring what?" I said looking at him with a playfully frown.
"That body of yours that drives me crazy" he leaned to grab me by the shirt and pulled my to him, his hands instantly landed on my sides as he pushed me to the bed. I giggled as he ran his hands on my sides and pulled off my shirt, leaving me with just a thong in front of him.
"If I'd known you were waiting I would've taken a lot less" I said when he leaned in to kiss me, he chuckled and trapped my lips in his, bitting on them playfully.
He grabbed my hands and pinned them up over my head, and I knew then I was in for a good one, because I absolutely loved when he pinned me under him and had his way with me.
"I'm onto something" he said over my lips after he was done kissing them, I felt them tingle and sore up, along with every part of my body that was getting ready for him.
"For my sake I hope you keep at it"

Ressler.
After Liz was reinstated, things against Garvey moved fast. Liz saw the littlest sign of hope when she found a witness who could identify him as the killer of the detective that was helping Liz, but quickly lost it when the witness was snatched from Aram's custody.
I'd seen Aram looking over at files and  security cameras and CCTV footage in his off time, non stop.
We were stalling in reports so we could get moving. I received an update later in the morning.
"Forensics says the report’s gonna be ready later today." I informed as I walked to Aram's station.
"I promised that we would protect him – that I would protect him." Aram said with a sad look on his face.
"Aram, we’re gonna find out whoever took this witness, all right?" I tried to cheer him up with a pat on the back.
"Tony Mejia was gonna testify that he saw Ian Garvey murder a cop. And thanks to me he probably never will." My eyes fell from him to the side
"Whoa, wait. Is that what I think it is?" I said referring to a little bag I saw peaking from his first desk drawer.
"Oh, uh – it was my grandmother’s. Amethyst is Samar’s birthstone." I chuckled a bit as he handed me the little bag. Birthstones were like zodiac signs to me, how that meant anything related to the day you were born was always going to be a mystery to me.
"Now, here I thought you were all doom and gloom." I opened the box and gave the ring a look, it was a nice ring, definitely fitted Samar. "When are you gonna pop the question?"
"What?" Aram asked with a chuckle and a frown "No. No, no, no, no" he said as I placed the ring back in the bag. "This is not an engagement ring. It’s just a ring."
"But you guys have been dating for over a year. You give her just a ring, she’s gonna think it’s a proposal."
"That’s insane. How can she think it’s a proposal if I do not propose?"
"I can guess what a woman’s gonna do, but why she does it, I got no clue."
"Apparently, I don’t, either."
"Well, why don’t you ask one"
I motioned with my head at Liz, who was walking towards us. Her and Samar tried to convince Aram once again that it wasn't his fault the witness was taken. Upon revising the events, it was obvious it was an ambush. Liz received a call from Reddington and left to meet with him.
We were stalled for a bit until Liz came back, and whilst Samar and I headed out for a case, I leaned that Aram did ask Liz the question about the ring.
"She told me that Samar would only think it's a proposal if she wants to marry me"
I frowned and shook my head a bit. "I guess I really don't know what women want"
He let out a little chuckle and sat down in Samar's chair in our office. "You already have one woman, I guess you only need to know what she wants"
My eyes landed on a photo I had of Mags and Alma when she was a baby. I guess I need to update it. Alma was on her way to her second year already.
"About Liz" I diverted "I don't think we're going to get too far"
"Why do you say that?" he said a little offended by my pessimism.
"Because Reddington is working for his own benefit as always, and we've learned before that even though he cares about Liz, he's always his first priority"
He frowned a bit, confused.
"Do you know about the car? How could you?"
"No, what car?"
"The car we used to transport myself and the witness, it was hijacked, and after I did some digging I got an ID of the person who placed the device. He works for Reddington"
I let out a dry laugh and shook my head.
"See? Reddington is hiding something from Liz, and he values that more than helping her get to the person who killed her husband"
I stood up from the chair with a grunt.
"Makes me sick" I said in a sigh.
I heard someone walk from the stairs, and I exited the office to meet up with Samar and Cooper, he gave us our last directions and we were off again.
That day we resolved the case of the vigilante child bride. I had the chance to go home early and leave the investigation to Samar and Liz. I still couldn't believe she was willing to help Reddington retrieve something he wanted from the girl.
"Don" Maggie called from next to me, I led my eyes to her and then down to Alma who was handing me something.
"Oh look at this" I said taking a piece of paper scribbled all over "what a masterpiece, thanks cupcake" she smiled sheepishly and was off again to  continue drawing in the floor in front of us. Mags was watching a movie after we'd had dinner, I was just there to make company.
"Ever since you came back on the taskforce you've been different" she noted. I stopped watching Alma draw and looked up at Mags, she was hugging her legs on her chest, waiting for me to answer.
"I've always hated secrecy and lies and... That's all Liz is getting and I don't think it's fair. I also had a car bomb explode next to me and some idiot stopped me from getting the unsub but that's beside the point"
"I see" she said with a little nod "but is it just the Liz thing that has you worried?"
"Yes" I answered with certainty, because it was. "Everything else is fine. Because we're fine right?" I asked her, she gave me a little smile and ran a hand on her hair.
"I mean we haven't had sex in a week"
"Oh I see, that's all you want me for" I teased as I leaned over her, she gave me an eyeroll as she looked sideways with a smile.
"No" she said with an obvious tone. I grabbed her by the legs and pulled her to me, leaning over her and latching her legs on my sides "the kid is watching"
"She's not" I downed my lips to hers and kissed her. I realized only then that we had been doing our own things and hadn't been together all that much, because I felt like I hadn't enjoyed a kiss with her in a while. She rounded my neck with her arms and I hummed against her lips. "I guess it has been a while uh?" I said quietly over them. She smiled a little and leaned in to kiss me again. I rubbed her waist and pulled her up, sitting back on the couch with her on arms.
"That's not all I want you for" she excused, hugging me by the neck "I just miss you"
"I know" I hugged her tightly by the waist, pulling her closer to my chest "we should go out tomorrow"
"I don't know, you're kind of unpredictable now" the corner of my lip pulled down to give her a sad smile.
It was crazy how we talked about how unpredictable everything was and the next day I got sent to Paris. After we rode in Reddington's private jet to Paris, he left us in the hotel to wait for him. For hours.
I hated when he left us waiting.
"Okay, enough" I said standing from the rather cozy loveseat in the living room, Samar looked up at me with a little frown "where is he? We need to call him, we need to get moving"
"Okay, I'll call him" she said standing and pulling her phone from her jacket.
After finding out that Reddington was kind of planning things as they went, we met up with him later that day.
He went on with the information he had about Mosadek and his security, and by the end of it I was sure it was impossible.
"No way, this could take weeks to plan out correctly, there's no way we're getting in"
"Let alone get Mosadek out" Samar chimed in.
"Oh come on, where's your sense of adventure?" He stressed.
"So you've got a way to get this lowlife out without getting us all killed?"
"The elevator" he replied simply.
"Oh the elevator?" I asked with sarcasm.
"Oh my God, you had the same idea!"
Few were the times when I actually felt like I could jump to Reddington's throat, because I wasn't in the mood the joke, and most definitely not in the mood to die. The elevator sounded like a terrible idea already.
We went on with the plan barely got the guy, and after Reddington interrogated him and somehow involved us all in a bigger thing that the one we signed up for, I had to call Cooper to get authorization. Later that day I face timed Mags to let her know the news.
"Hey princess" I saluted, Maggie smiled.
"Hey love, how are you"
"Daddy!" I heard Alma yell in the background, Maggie chuckled and moved the camera to focus Alma in the background, she was sitting in a chair eating.
"Hey cupcake" I saluted "where are you guys?" I asked after I didn't exactly recognized the furniture of the place.
"Well" Maggie said and turned around to focus Aram on the background. "I'm with Aram, he invited us over for dinner"
"Oh, it's uh, agent Ressler"
Maggie frowned and gave him a side look.
"I know it's hard but you can at least try to call him Donald, his first name is not Agent" she joked, Aram was clearly flustered.
"Okay, hi Donald" he saluted, then frowned "that sounds awful"
Maggie laughed and shook her head.
"What are you two doing?"
"You left me" she stressed "and went out to Paris with his girlfriend"
I stood up and walked around the suite, finding Samar sitting in front of a computer in the living room.
"We're being cheated on" I announced, sitting next to her and focusing us both in the camera.
"Hi Samar" Maggie saluted.
"Oh, hi Maggie. What are you two doing?" Samar asked, clearly weirded out as well.
I don't think either of them were too comfortable knowing that we were hanging out with eachother's partners, but I'd walked on James having breakfast with Mags too many times to be weirded out at this point.
"I think Aram and I would make a better couple, you know why?" Maggie said holding Aram by the shoulders.
"Because you ramble too much?" Samar answered.
"No, because we-" she motioned between them "believe in ghosts"
It was unbelievable how Samar and I grunted in reply.
"Oh yeah, Samar doesn't believe in ghosts" Aram interjected.
"Neither does Donald, he laughs at me"
"Everything that has happened to you, is completely explainable" I said. Aram and Maggie looked at eachother in surprise, I guessed that Samar must tell him the same thing.
"Anyway" Maggie said walking away from Aram "what are you two doing?"
"I saved Dembe from a falling elevator whilst Samar talked to a Parisian old man" I answered, standing up from the chair and heading back to the couch near one of the windows "I'll have to stay in Paris for a few more days"
"Oh, okay" Maggie replied with a little look I couldn't pinpoint "say bye to your dad" she moved the phone to focus Alma. She was still a little weirded out by the FaceTime method, so she kept looking at Maggie while talking to me "say bye"
"Bye" she complied
"Say bye dad"
"Bye dad" she said, then threw me a kiss and a hand wave. I bet Maggie made her do that.
"Bye love, I'll talk to you later" Maggie yelled, then ended the call.
My time in Paris lasted two more days between shots and not so nice runs in the catacombs of Paris. We arrived back home, then Cooper gave us our leave, even though we didn't catch the blacklister, our case was finished.
I arrived home by the time of lunch, though Mags wasn't at the house.
I was rolling my suitcase down the hall towards the bedroom when I heard a scream on the other side of the hallway, I looked up when I heard hurried steps coming down the hall, I bent down to catch Alma in my arms as she came crashing to me.
"Hey cupcake" I said with a chuckle, picking her up and holding my suitcase with my other hand.
"Hi Daddy" she said showing me some kind of dough she had in her hands.
"Did you miss me?"
"Yes" she replied, I set my suitcase near the door of the closet and left Alma on top of our bed
"Really? How much?" I made conversation as I took off my jacket. She extended her arms at her side "wow, that much? That's a lot" I said with a smile. I finished unbuttoning my shirt and headed into the closet to put on a shirt, then changed my pants to some sweatpants and headed out.
Alma was focused on her dough, I picked her up again and headed to the kitchen, Carol was there setting up something for Alma to eat.
"Hey Donald" she saluted "how are you?"
"Half tired" I replied, leaving Alma on the high chair, I'd eaten something on the way, because we were still on Reddington's jet and he doesn't take a "no" for an answer, so I sat next to Alma as she ate.
The phone of the house rang, I picked it up after a few rings because no one called landlines these days.
"Yes"
"Who is this?" I recognized Mags voice.
"This would be Donald Ressler"
"Oh, then this would be your wife" she answered with a chuckle "what are you doing at the house?"
"Just arrived, what are you doing calling the landline?"
"Carol doesn't pick up her phone while working, which I think it's great, but I wanted to let her know I'll take a little longer today, but if you're home then-"
"Yeah, I've got you covered, why do you need time?"
She let out a kind of annoyed sigh "my sister is going to some doctor for some operation and I'm going to take care of her during the post op"
"Something serious?"
"No" she said with a chuckle "not at all, you'll laugh when I tell you"
"Okay love. I'll make you something nice for dinner" I offered.
"Oh, can't wait" she said with a low voice "I'll see you tonight love"
"Love you" I saluted, then hung up.
Maggie.
"A breast augmentation?" Don asked confused, placing a plate of barbecue ribs in front of me, my mouth watered instantly, and even more when he set French fries in front of me.
"Oh my God I love you" I muttered, taking one and eating it quickly "yes, she wants-" I motioned at my breast.
"I mean, don't take me wrong, but your sister doesn't need bigger breasts"
"She's on a 2 for 1 deal, I wanted to check with you"
He looked at me with a twisted eyebrow, then gave me a sly smile.
"You're not against it!" I exclaimed.
"I'm not against it, but you definitely don't need it either" I laughed and leaned in to give him a kiss on the cheek.
"Thanks for the confidence boost, but I would never get anything done. And my sister is going through some weird middle age crisis thing, even though she's not even 40."
"What's in it for me then?" He joked.
"Is it good?" I said looking at Alma going to town at the ribs. I grabbed a napkin and cleaned up her face. "She's going to surgery in two weeks."
"And the kids?"
"Ethan is going to take care of them for that week"
"Alright then" I looked at him, giving him a smile "I'll take care of the kiddo" he reached to me and rubbed my cheek.
"I love it when you cook for me" I said leaning into his hand.
"I'm trying" I took his hand and kissed his palm, then continued eating because his barbecue ribs were actually heaven.
"What about your whole Liz thing?" I asked, giving that he hadn't talked about it in a while.
"She's working on it, so far not getting us involved all that much" he replied shortly.
"Does that upset you?" He gave me a look over his glass as he took a sip, then twisted his lips.
"A little. She'll come around, Reddington will leave her no choice"
I gave an understanding nod, then leaned my hand to place it on top of his arm.
Sometimes I felt guilty for wishing that Don didn't get involved in Liz's things, I felt bad for wishing he wasn't the way he was, so helpful, so righteous, so overall good. Because when things went bad, they went terrible.

Maggie.
"You don't need to do this, it upsets her" Don said, holding a struggling Alma in his arms.
"I only change her earings once a month"
"All the ones that you've put her are the same"
"It takes me literally two seconds to put them" I latched the last earring on her, watching her wail and begin to cry.
"It's okay we're ready" he said lifting Alma over his head, she instantly stoped crying because she loved to be lifted up high, she put on the biggest smile on her face, Don pulled her to his chest then lifted her up again, making her laugh.
"Let's head down" I said, taking the bag and placing my hand on his back.
We were at our all inclusive hotel in Miami, on our little anniversary/vacation week, and our hotel had a direct exit with the beach, so everyday after brunch, we would head downstairs to the beach for a while, and strolled around the city at night.
When we got down we picked a spot that was relatively empty and set the towels and a little beach umbrella to cover mostly alma, I loved being under the sunshine. I mostly laid face down and watched how Don made sand mountains for Alma, just because she loved to tear them down with her hand, she loved the sand, and she absolutely loved the beach.
Don was absorbed, filling up a bucket and placing it face down in front of Alma, she then lifted it up and saw the sand castle amazed. I moved from my spot and crawled to him, sprawling on  top of his crossed legs, he gave me a little look and smiled at my very obvious attempt to attract his attention.
"Hi" he said, leading his hand to my waist.
"Hi" I said with a smile "so, I've got plans for tonight"
"Okay, I'm listening" he ran his hand over my waist to my sides, hanging lazily over my butt.
"I talked to the hotel management and they told me that they do have someone that gives them babysitting services that they have worked with before, so someone can come and take care of Alma for the night" he instantly gave me a face like he didn't like that idea at all "but-" I interrupted with my finger up "we're not leaving the hotel, we can have dinner here, it's show night so they have live music and we can get drunk and all that good stuff"
He meditated a little, giving Alma a few glances over my shoulder.
"Okay, that sounds fine"
"I don't want it to sound fine, I want it to sound fun. I want you to get drunk with me"
"We have a child to take care of"
"We can be functional adults with a little headache, and you know it doesn't take much effort to get me drunk" Don gave me a smile, then leaned in to kiss me on the lips.
I turned around over him and looked at Alma. She was busy trying to shovel sand into the bucket, looking very concentrated. I leaned back, landing on Don's chest and smiled. This moment right here was my little piece of heaven. The love of my life, my daughter, and that was it. I felt Don's lips on my shoulder, then go up on my neck.
"Now I understand what you mean when you tell me you missed me"
I smiled more, turning my head to the side and looking at him.
"I'm glad" he leaned in to kiss me again, giving me a tight hug.
"I love you" he said over my lips " and I'm very glad you married me" I turned to face him again, hugging him by the shoulders and kissing him longer.
We heard Alma begin to cry, and when I turned around to her voice, I bolted out of Don's lap and ran to catch her, in two seconds she'd stood up and walked over the beach towel towards the beach, but the sand was hot so she instantly regretted it.
"What in God's name are you doing" I said cleaning the soles of her feet and giving her a look, she had tears on her eyes and was pouting, on the verge of crying.
I soon felt the heat under my own feet so I dug them under the sand were it was colder, watching Don reach us and look at Alma's feet.
"Think she's okay?"
"Yeah, she's fine" Alma leaned and extended her arms to Donald, he caught her and held her to his chest. I swear this kid wasn't dumb, and I confirmed that when she gave me a smile.
"This was a whole thing to get me away from you I swear, look at her"
Don looked down at her, Alma wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her cheek to his shoulder. Don hugged her back and gave me a chuckle.
"Wanna go to the beach pumpkin?" I asked Alma, she led her eyes to me, "beach?" I asked again, she nodded and said 'ich' which was very close to beach, she usually said the end of a word or if you asked her something she would ask it back, babling words but adding the same tone you used.
I took her and motioned at Don.
"Ask Dad if he's coming with us"
She made the same motion I'd made with her hand, motioning at Don to come with us.
"Okay, let's go" I began walking to the beach, but I know Don probably trekked back and put all of our things together to make sure nothing got touched, though we didn't have our phones with us, or anything valuable, he had brought a few dollars because Alma would surely want some icecream as soon as she heard the whistle of the man who sold it.
I reached the shore and placed Alma down in the wet sand, and she instantly bolted towards the waves, I held her by the hand and walked with her, feeling the first rush of water hit us, I heard her gasp at how the cold water covered her to her waist, and retreated back. I looked down to make sure she was okay, she was looking out in the distance, moving her feet towards the water again.
I looked back, finding Don looking at us from the shore. I was 100 percent not carrying the baby into the sea by my own, I had Don carry her and walk with her until he was a bit submerged and could make her swim around, but the waves were a little stronger today and I wasn't sure we were going to be able to do that.
"The waves are stronger today" he said from behind me, bending over to the water as it reached us again and pooling a bit on his hand, leading it to Alma's head.
"I mean, we're not going to keep her away, we should head back to the hotel and try the pool instead"
"Yeah, I think that's better" he replied, lifting Alma and walking back to our things. Alma began crying as soon as he pulled her out of the water, she began to wiggle trying to get free, but obviously Don didn't let her go. I heard him tell her that they were going to the pool, but I doubt she understood that.
He headed straight back and I took my beach bag and the towel that was on the floor, shaking it a bit as I walked behind him. Alma was bawling as she looked back at the beach, but it wasn't long until we reached the pool and Don made her look at it.
"See?" She quieted down, looking at the pool "here, we're going in"
I sat at one of the lounge chairs and watched as Don rounded the pool and entered by the shallowest side, Alma instantly began flaying her arms and leaned forward, he held her face down and moved her around.
I walked to the side where they were at and crouched.
"Here" I motioned at him, he walked to me and I cupped some water to wet his shoulders. I had tried to make him get an even tan but he was so freaking white, it was pointless, the least I could do was to avoid him getting all red. I led some water to his face and his head, damping his hair.
"I'm going to ask for a drink, want some?" I asked, he gave me a look and moved Alma from side to side.
"A lemonade would be fine" i nodded and stood up, placing my hands on my hips.
"I'm going to ask for a Mojito" he gave me a look and a little chuckle, walking around in the pool.
"I'm getting a beer then"
"That's better" I said walking back to the lounge chair. I motioned at one of the waiters, and asked for our drinks. It didn't took a while to have them placed in a little table next to me. God bless all inclusive.
After maybe half an hour of Don in the pool with Alma, he finally stepped out when he saw she wasn't moving as much.
He walked to me as I was halfway done with my mojito, I extended a towel in front of me and caught Alma, holding her to my lap as I dried her. Don took the beer bottle and gave it a swig, sitting at the end of my chair.
"You're not going in?"
I shrugged and looked at Alma, cleaning her face and her hair, she mewled and complained.
"Wow, someone needs an urgent nap"
"I'm not that old" he said. I gave him a chuckle, leaning to my bag and pulling Alma's bottle already filled with her formula. He extended his hand for me to give him the bottle, but I stood up and held Alma to my chest.
"It's okay, I got it" I said rounding the chair and walking towards a little bar that was placed in the side of the pool, asked the girl that was tending if she could heat the bottle up for a few seconds then stood next to it as I waited. Alma had placed her head on my shoulder and was looking into the distance. Yeah, she was going to take a long nap after her bottle.
I returned to our spot, already giving Alma the bottle for her to start drinking. She could very well hold it with both her hands. When I reached the spot Don had laid back properly in the chair and had pulled one for me next to him. I laid Alma instead since she was seconds away from going to sleep. I sat next to her, feeling Don's hand land on my lap. I watched as her eyes began to drop little by little as she worked on finishing the whole bottle.
I had leaned to Don's chest and after she finished and fell asleep, I left the bottle in the bag and laid my cheek on his chest, looking up at him.
"Parenting is exhausting" I said with a little sigh, he placed his hand over my sides, rubbing my waist through my summer dress.
"I was seconds away from proposing you to go on vacations by ourselves"
"That's the worst idea you could've had, thank God you didn't ask me"
"Yeah, I was going to miss her too much" he looked to Alma and gave her a smile, leaning the beer bottle to his lips one more time.
"Hey" I called, his eyes landed on mine as I sat next to him. "We agreed that soon as she fell asleep, it goes from family vacation to anniversary" he laughed, a full long mocking laugh, leaning to me and trying to shut me up with a kiss. "I'm serious" I muffled over his lips.
"I know you're serious that's what's funny" he said with another chuckle and pulled me to lay on top of him as he leaned back on the chair. "It's funny how you're so jealous of your own baby"
I pouted and laid my head on my hand.
"I saw you first" I excused. He laughed again and rubbed my sides.
"And you'll probably see me last cupcake, she's leaving us in 18 years"
"But I don't want that either" I complained and rested my head on his chest.
"Well, looks like you also need a nap" he patted my head and rubbed my neck "you really can't hold your licor can you, you didn't even finish the mojito"
"I'm not drunk" I excused, sitting straight and looking at him, he gave me a twist of his eyes brows and finally nodded.
"Okay love" I leaned I again, kissing his lips, then extended my arm to grab the mojito and looked at him with a little smile as I worked on finishing it.
"Do you still love me even if you have to take care of drunk me?"
"You take care of injured me, that's even more of a pain in the ass than drunk you"
"That wasn't the question" I sat on the chair and pulled me in for another kiss, I smiled over them and led my hand to the back of his neck, running my fingers over his short hair. "Mm, that's a good answer" I said pulling back a little and giving him a little chuckle. "I'm going to-"
"You're not taking another one I can't carry the both of you, we're on the fifteenth floor" I twisted my eyebrows and left the glass in the table.
"To the pool" I finished, standing up and taking my dress in one swift move.
"Okay then" he said, relaxing back on the chair, I looked back and motioned at one of the waiters to get Don another beer.
Most of our days had been like this, brunch, pool, a little time alone as Alma slept, though the actual night of our anniversary we did spend it alone in the restaurant of the hotel, we saw the live band playing, we ate, and before I decided to get waisted I had caught myself looking at Donald for way too long, and I felt like it had been a while since I'd seen him in detail. I was very pleased to find that he was still as hot as always, or maybe more. His arm was propped against the back of my chair, and I'd leaned on the table, supporting my head on my fist, looking at him.
He looked at me quickly as he took his drink and led it to his lips, but stopped when he caught me staring, giving me an embarrassed smile.
"Stop" he said, takin a sip.
"No" I said leaning to him and placing my arm over his shoulder "you're like... The actual love of my life"
He gave me another smile, letting his arm drop to my waist and rubbing my side.
"And I'm not drunk" I excused, he chuckled and shook his head.
"I know you're not drunk" I saw eyes move between both of mine, staring me down "and you're also the actual love of my life"
I smiled dreamily at him, leading my hand to my glass, he did the same, we said our cheers, then we kissed, and I believe at some point we got moderately inebriated and I don't know how we managed to get to the room because I don't remember much after the live band stopped playing and they turned the dinning room into a dance floor. But we'd made it up and I was awakened by Alma yelling from the living space we had in the suite. I looked up at the side table and took my phone, giving the time a glance. I heard Alma yell at me again, being beconed by Don to yell 'mom' for me.
"I'm coming" I managed to get out as I sat on the bed and stretched my back, I smiled when I heard Alma shriek in excitement because I'd waken up.
I wrapped myself in a robe and walked to the other room, watching Alma peak from behind the couch, she saw me a smiled, bouncing and shrieking in excitement, I snuck my hands under her arms and pulled her to me, kissing her cheek.
"How are you princess?" I asked, looking at her and fixing her messy blond hair. I rounded the couch and sat next to Don, who gave me a welcoming smile. "Have you been up long?" I asked, looking at him.
"A good hour, it's weird she didn't wake you up, she's been yelling a lot" he placed his hand on my shoulder and rubbed it "want to head down for breakfast or are you waiting a bit for lunch?" I took his phone from the table and looked at the time, it was one hour until lunch.
"I'll just gave a coffee and wait"
The whole morning I had a slight headache and wasn't very in the mood for anything, but we still went out and still made most of our vacation time, we had to return the next day and I didn't wanted to spend it in the hotel room sleeping my hangover away.
We'd gone out to the mall, and had Alma play in one of the kid zones the mall had, we were sitting on the highchairs on one of the sides of the playroom, watching over her.
"I got a text from Liz" Don said out of nowhere, I turned my head to look at him "she asked how I was and things like that. Then she invited the taskforce to her place as soon as we had time, she said she needed to tell us something"
"And what do you think she's gonna say?" I asked, running my hand on his back. He shrugged and turned to look at me.
"I don't know, but I don't think she's coming back anytime soon. She's not like me"
He'd resumed his watch on Alma, and I pondered a little in his words.
"She'll come back at some point, I don't think anyone wants the taskforce to shut down, specially Raymond".
He nodded in agreement, but didn't say anything else. I leaned in to kiss him on the cheek.
"You'll be fine" he chuckled, turning his head to me.
"Of course I'll be fine, nothing happened to me"
I clicked my tongue and gave him an eye roll "you know what I mean"
"Yeah I know" he said with a smile of his own. I heard a faint "mom" coming from my side, and I looked down at Alma on the other side of the half wall, she was giving me a little pout and she was probably about to start bawling. I knew that little face, so I just hopped off the high chair and took my bag.
"I'll be right back" I said to Don, walking around to playground to the entrance and towards Alma, I picked her up and ushered her, she hated being dirty, and I didn't like leaving her with a dirty diaper for much time either, so I took her to bathroom and changed her.
We enjoyed our last day in Miami, and good thing we did, because what Liz had to say to Donald and the team didn't make him feel any better.

"It's funny and disturbing to see you conflicted"
I'd been staring at Don for maybe half an hour, he was pacing around the living room where I hadn't seen him, then he walked into the kitchen with a look on his face like he wanted to tell me something but stopped himself.
Now he was trying to make it seem like everything was normal but he was bobbing his knee up and down whilst sitting on the couch.
It was funny because I'd never seen him nervous, and it was disturbing for the same reason, I'd never seen him nervous.
I sat in front of him, but leaning back on the couch because this little thing called my baby and the love of my life was slowly making it's way out of my body.
"What happened?"
He immediately shook his hand
"Nothing, I'm fine" he shot me a quick glance, then stood up and walked away from me.
"Don, you know there's nothing you can tell me that will impress me at this point" I stood up to chase him, but he stopped in the kitchen door and looked back at me.
"I know, but I really can't tell you what happened"
I bit my tongue, looking at him. He gave me a little look, begging me to not push forward.
"Okay" I nodded, he looked away and turned around walking to the stairs "actually, can I ask you a favor?"
He turned around and looked at me.
"Can you run to the store and get me a few things? I need to keep working on a thing and I don't have time"
I simple nodded, then took his car keys and made a little motion.
"Text me the list, I'll be back in a few"
I didn't need anything urgently, but I guess he would've given me an excuse to leave for a while anyway.
The next day, I got a good idea of what might be troubling him when I was going to work, I had the news station on the radio and they were informing about the National Security Advisor's death, Laurel Hitchin.
He had something to do with that, either him and Raymond, or just Raymond. I had heard Don complaining about how he had to pick up his badge from her house, how he didn't wanted to go because he didn't wanted to see her, because he was angry about her getting away and him doing nothing about it.
I was baking a cake when he showed up at the house, he didn't know that I was here and frankly I didn't know I would be home so soon either.
"What are you doing?" I asked from the kitchen. I saw him show up in the door frame with a frown.
"What are you doing here?" He questioned. I motioned at the mess I had on the kitchen.
"Baking"
"And what about work?"
I gave him a little twist of my eyebrows.
"I could be asking the same Agent Ressler"
I saw him clench his teeth, making his jaw move uncomfortably.
"I'm here to pick up some money"
"Mmm" I dipped the spoon I was holding on the batter and tasted it. "How much do you need?"
"About 20 grand"
I gave him a funny look and motioned upstairs.
"Well, you know where the safe is" because of course we had a safe for that amount of money, along with other random valuable things. When he walked out of my sight and headed up the stairs, I began cleaning the mess on the countertop while the cake continued to cook behind me, the filling and such was what I was working on when he arrived. "That's an expensive hooker you've got there Agent Ressler" I said when I heard him make his way down.
He walked to where I was again, adjusting his suit.
"It's not money for a hooker, I'm not cheating on you"
"You can just tell me then" I shrugged. He ducked my gaze, turning around and heading to the door.
"I'll see you tonight" he didn't let me respond, he just left.
Two hours later I was walking into a motel, cake in hand, heading to the pool.
"You're not making yourself hard to find"
Raymond perked up on his chair and turned around, he gave me a smile and stood up.
"Ah Maggie, what a wonderful surprise" I left the cake on the table and received a hug from him. He then laughed and looked down at me "and what's this?" He cautiously pressed his hand on my stomach.
"Yeah, this happened" I said touching the base of it.
"How far along are you?" He motioned at the table where he was sitting, I joined while he retrieved a fork and knife from the nearby recreation room next to the pool.
"I'm almost 15 weeks" I said, he gave me a smile as he sliced the cake.
"And what's this?"
"It's a bribe" he hummed and tasted the cake, falling back on his chair
"This is an almost perfect replica of Chui's pecan pie" he savoured. I gave him a smile and also fished a fork to eat. "I accept the bribe" I gave him a chuckle as I took a full bite of the cake. Damn it was good.
"So, Ressler, what are you guys up to? Why's he so upset?"
"Donald?" He asked frowning "Maggie darling I have no clue"
"You must know something, about Hitchin? Is that it?"
"Laurel?" He asked again.
"Yeah, she's dead, did you do that?"
He left the fork on the table and held his hands on his stomach.
"Maggie my dear, my entire operation was decimated by Kate, I have no money, no business transactions, no associates, no information worth having. And because of this I have no names for the blacklist, which means, it's not a case Donald is worried about. And no, I didn't dispose of Laurel"
I frowned and sat back myself. I absentmindedly began touching my stomach, is something I did a lot, it was like i was trying to calm down my baby from all the thoughts swirling on my head.
"Then I guess if you don't know what's wrong it must be a real problem"
He gave me a little sad look.
"Sadly I'm in no position to help" he motioned at the building. Yeah, I knew this motel, he truly was in no position to help.
"I don't think Don would want your help either way" I assured him.
I sighed and shook my head.
"What do I do? Do I keep pushing him to tell me? Or do I deal with this on my own?"
"On your own?" He asked doubtfully "like that?" He motioned at me. I gave him a twist of lips.
"Seems like you forgot that I used to work for you, if I wanted to I could find my way to get information. I know your associates"
"That's not wise Maggie."
I staid silent, maybe I was getting to up in his business.
"There should be no secrets between us" I said, I saw him nod with a little twist of lips. "I mean we've literally been through so much, why would he hide stuff from me, knowing that I could help him?"
"He doesn't want to worry you"
"Yeah, well, mission failed" I said a little angry. I gave my watch one quick look before standing up "I should get going. He should be home any minute now" I moved and patted his shoulder "thanks anyway Ray"
"When I can lend a helping hand Maggie I will delightedly do so" I nodded with a little smile and walked back to the car.
When I got back home Don was already inside, he gave me a look when I walked in, sneaking his hand on his pockets and waiting for me.
"Hey" I saluted.
"I'm sorry about earlier" he lamented.
"It's okay" I shrugged. He gave me a nod, then walked around me to head upstairs "I'd like to think-" I said turning around and following him "that there are no secrets between each other. And I meant what I said, I don't think there's anything you can say to me that would surprise me." I walked to stand in front of him, he looked down at the floor "is this about Hitchin? It has to be, what happened?"
"I don't want to implicate you" he said looking up at me.
I moved my hands to grab his wrists, fishing his hands out of his pocket and taking it in between mine.
"Listen Don, if you don't implicate me, I'll implicate myself. I will one way or another find out what you're up to, and I will do anything in my power to keep this family together. So we better do this together" I said in a serious tone.
"Mags-"
"Just tell me" I insisted "what am I gonna do? Turn you in? No way" I shook my head "tell me, or I will forget we ever had this conversation, we will move on with our lives like nothing happened, but I will find out on my own. Because Raymond doesn't know what you're up to and it's not a case so it's definitely something very illegal."
"We had a struggle" he said immediately "with Hitchin, when she gave me my badge, she grabbed me by the arm, I pulled back, she fell and hit her head on the countertop. That's what happened"
I gave him a frown.
"It was an accident" he clarified.
"Of course it was an accident, Donald, and anybody who tells you differently clearly doesn't know you" I bit my lip and pressed my hand to my chin "and the body?"
"I called a fixer"
"A fixer? Where did you get the number for a fixer?"
"I got it from Reddington and Reven Wright, he was holding her body."
"And what?" I made a motion with my hand "he just got rid of everything?"
"The body's still at her house, all the information on the crime scene is going to be processed tomorrow, that's when I'll know if he's not lying to me"
"Okay" I nodded "see, was that so fucking difficult? Did I panic? Did I look at you any differently?"
He just rolled his eyes in defeat and looked down again.
"But now you know"
"Yeah, now I know and I know what to expect from this situation. From now on we share our burdens do you hear me?" I threatened pointing at him. He gave me the faintest of smiled and pulled me in, I circled my arms around his neck and sighed. "Listen" I pulled back "Liz has gotten past a murder charge, she got past the district attorney murder charges, she got pardoned, Aram got past a grand jury investigation, if you get charged because of this, you still have the get out of jail free card"
He turned around and held me by the hand, leading me back to the kitchen.
"I just can't believe I did that"
"It was an accident" I assured.
"No, not the Hitchin thing. I can't believe I called a fixer, that's not the way I deal with things, that's not the right thing to do. Now I'm just digging myself a deeper hole"
"Listen" I stood in front of him and moved my hand on his neck  "I know you feel like you've backed out of your own principles. I know it's tough but you did it, and don't be scared to say you did it because you wanted to be out of jail. Listen I did it too, I haven't forgotten it and I live with that, we just-" I shrugged "we just need to focus on other things, right? This will pass"
He gave me a little nod, leaning in to kiss my lips.
"Thank you" he whispered over my lips, I just shook my head against him and kissed him again.
"Don't thank me for anything, we're in this one together"
Ressler
It felt surprisingly relieving to tell Mags about the whole fixer situation. I felt slightly bad because she was getting herself into things that were my fault, I shouldn't have dragged her into this. On the other hand she was right, I couldn't lie to her or keep things from her, when she found out she would be angry and disappointed that I hadn't trusted her when I had to.
I'm pretty sure Keen also shares her burdens with Tom, and I'm sure they've probably intentionally killed more people than I.
I was relieved when Cooper told me that in fact Hitchin's death had been ruled an accident, and I couldn't wait to tell Mags so she could help me bury this in my mind and never think about it again.
I was not relieved when Prescott got in my car at the end of the day and told me he knew me. He'd found out about me through my prints, and now he was blackmailing me with the evidence of Hitchin's house.
"Mags are you home?" I asked when I closed the front door.
"Yeah I'm up here" she said from the office. I made my way to her, untying my tie.
"He found out" I said, walking across the hallway and into her office. She was sitting in the desk chair, leaning back on it and holding a bag of cookies on her hands, she left it on her lap and fished one out whilst looking at me.
"What?" She frowned.
"He found out about who I really was"
"The fixer?" I nodded and pulled a chair from the side of the room to where she was sitting. "He didn't know who you were?"
"Reddington introduced us, and I kept the charade. He ran my prints and found out I was in the FBI"
"Oh shit" she lifted her eyebrows and fished another cookie. She made a motion to take one, but I couldn't pass a bite. "And?"
"He said he never destroyed the evidence he had on me. He has it and he's blackmailing me with it. Told me I was going to be doing him some favors"
"What a bastard" she muffled, then extended her hand to me "give me your phone. Has he been calling you?"
I fished it out of my jacket and handed it to her.
"I called him yesterday to meet and give him the money. I guess it's the same he will be calling me from"
I busied myself with watching her take a burner from the last drawer of her desk, plug it to the charger and when it turned on, she presses a few buttons and held the phone to her ear.
"Benji, it's me Maggie. Yes, I need you to track a number for me." She dictated the number, and I moved for her to see me and to question her with a look. She just took another cookie and ate it. "Mm hm" she nodded and extended both her hands to her computer, she typed an address on Google maps "yes please, and thank you" she hung up and motioned at the screen. "That's where he's at"
"Okay, first of all, why do you have a burner?"
"Raymond" she replied
"And second-" I continued "why do you have the number of a tracker, who is that guy?"
"He works at the local phone company, and he searches for the numbers and locations of the devices as part of an anti-theft program his company has. He can search any number you give him, it really doesn't matter if the phone was stolen or not, he can do it at any time" she motioned at the screen again "that's a lawyer firm." She opened the business page of the firm and ran through the names "none of these ring a bell?"
I gave the list a quick look and shook my head.
"Mmm" she took another cookie and her can of soda "so either he hasn't given you his real name" she concluded "or he doesn't work there, maybe he's just passing. But he is a lawyer, or knows one in that firm" she looked at me. She got a smile out of me.
"Yes, that's right, those are our two options" she smiled victoriously.
"Okay, so, if you've seen him, you can ID him, we need CCTV from this firm"
"I can't put up a warrant just because on a CCTV camera, I'm going to get questioned"
She rose her eyebrows to me and lifted her lip in a little smirk.
"And who said you would be doing it?"
"Oh, so you know someone that can do that too?"
She stood up from her chair and walked to a framed whiteboard she had, it was full of dates, numbers, post-it notes, drawings. She turned it around to the other side and began writing.
"We'll write down what we know about him, and you'll get me posted if he calls you again or what he's going to ask you to do."
She'd written on the whiteboard only his name, and the location of the last call.
When she finished she turned the whiteboard around and tapped it with the marker.
"We have the next ultrasound next week. And hopefully" she stressed "we can see what it is" she rubbed the base and the side of her stomach, which was a lot more noticeable now, it was round and perfect.
"Are you going to do the gender reveal thing?" She walked to me and I pressed my hand to her stomach, she took it in hers and moved it around.
"I'm too impatient, I want to know the same day, but my sister said absolutely not, she was going to take care of it, just us" she made a circle motion with her hand "and we'll do like a picture sayings 'it's.....'"
She looked at me, waiting for me to finish the sentence.
"A baby" I finished. She slumped her shoulders and gave me a look.
"Yes, but what gender, what do you want?"
"What do you want?" I replied, she looked down at our hands pressed against her stomach.
"I want a girl, like a 51% more, if it's a boy I won't be mad. But girls are cuter and there's so many clothes for them, and they're so sweet"
"You jinxed it now" she rolled her eyes and I chuckled, she sat on my lap and I held her by the waist. "I want a girl too, I'd love to have another you in the house" I leaned in to peck her lips, she smiled against mine and held me tighter by the shoulders.
She pulled back after a while and smiled at me.
"From 1 to 10, how good is my sleuthing?"
I rolled my eyes playfully at her and stood up with her in my arms, leaving her on the floor and walking her out of the office.
"You're like Aram, except I actually like to hear you ramble"

I don't know where I stood right now. After the accident and after I got my strength and mobility back, I made the though decision of staying grounded, helping Maggie in anyway I could.
That entailed me not giving my help to anyone in any taskforce, no consulting jobs, anything. The first week, between the physical therapy and not being able to hold my own just with my right hand, I felt so useless, I was in a bad mood for maybe a week until I was strong enough and stopped having to depend on Maggie.
With the best soothing voice she had she'd told me that it wasn't a big deal helping me, but I knew better, I knew I was a nuisance at the house, not helping with the baby, it was easily the worst week of this year.
After I finished the physical therapy I went to the gym more regularly, and I you know... Got in more shape than I was. Over time that resulted in Maggie squeezing my arm every time she walked past me with a little smile.
I staid at the house when she was away at work, I took care of Alma who was so much bigger and more fun to take care of, she could eat now, we played hide and seek, I walked her around the house, holding her face down on my arms and making train or plane noises, she had the time of her life.
If Maggie couldn't come to eat at home, I took lunch to her place, but we always had lunch together, mainly because after so many hours of being kind of alone at the house, I took any possibility I had to be with her, even for just a little while.
Maggie walked in one day with a face that I knew it was bad news, well, not necessarily bad news but something had happened. I was chopping some tomatoes for some salad when she walked into the kitchen and left her purse and her briefcase on the island.
I sometimes looked at some people and my first thought was "they're rich", the clothes, the stand, the face, the jewelry they had on, the bags they used, the phone, some of those things where telltale sings that someone was loaded.
In the time I'd been with Mags she'd gone from a normal 9 to 5 employee at a firm to the head of a whole division, along with four teams of people who worked for her. She just managed the larger details and trusted other architects that were as good as her with the minor subjects. Seeing the person she'd become now, how much she'd grown in her job despite everything, despite Reddington, job changes, the wedding, the baby. She'd managed to overcome everything, she was the kind of women who went to a car agency, picked a car and instead of being shocked at the price she asked if the seats could be leather instead not fabric.
I was so proud of this woman, luckily she was mine, only mine.
Whilst I was thinking all of this and looking at her talk, I assumed she told me something important, because she stood looking at me for a full second, expecting me to say something, then threw her hands in the hair, slapping her thighs as she walked away from me, shaking her head.
"I got distracted baby I'm sorry" I said finishing with the salad and taking it to the table.
"I was saying important things, I wasn't talking just to talk today" she said giving me a little look. I must admit I would've been angry at myself as well if I was left to talk to a wall.
I always found it funny how she could be giving me an angry look, but as soon as she looked at Alma all of her face changed to the biggest smile, her voice elevated to a high pitched 'hiiii' as she bent down to hold Alma from her mess of pillows and toys on the floor.
She went on for a while cooing to the baby and kissing her cheek several times, I finished carrying the remaining food to the table. Maggie heated up a mix of veggies she'd mixed in the blender for Alma and had stored for the day, she liked to make the food herself, said it was healthier for her.
I'd learned a little dad trick, I put a little bit of food in one of her little plates and handed it to Alma, she liked to stick the hand into everything these days, and of she had a decoy one she wouldn't pay attention to the one I had, the one with which I feed her from.
"So what happened?" I asked Mags after we sat down to have lunch. She just gave me a shrug, still with an angry pout.
"I got suspended"
"What? How?" I asked surprised. I couldn't believe that her being in the position she was could still get suspended.
"Oscar told me that the next important job I needed to take care of was in LA and that I needed to relocate for maybe two months, and I told him that I wasn't going to take it and we fought about it and he told me that you know... Fine, but to not bother coming to work until next week when he has another project for me, even though I'm still managing like 3 on the side"
"And why didn't you take it?"
"Because I'm not going to drag you to LA with me"
"Why not?" I said looking at Mags this time, she just blankly stared at me.
"Because you hate LA"
"What's that got to do with anything?"
"Because, again, I'm not going to drag you to a place you hate" I gave her a little look, I clearly didn't believe that was the reason she didn't want to go, and if it was then she hadn't understand our previous conversation on how we would go anywhere her job required her to go.
I felt Alma's hand on my hand, pulling the plate with food towards her. I think I was being to slow in the deliver of food so I turned my attention to feeding her.
"That sounds like it could've been avoided with a simple phone call, like hey baby" I made a gesture of a phone with my hand "do you mind going to LA with me, and I would've been like 'no cupcake'"
"It's not that easy"
"I just showed you how easy it was"
"Well, again, you hate LA"
"Again" I mocked "what's that got to do with anything?"
"Okay" she said with a frustrated sigh "we're just going in circles now so..." she just dismissed me with a flick of her hand.
"Do you want me to do something about it?"
She gave me a little look, unsure of what exactly I was offering.
"I don't think that would be of much help"
"I could have him beat up" she gave me a chuckle and a shake of her head.
"I'm pretty sure that's not legal"
I puffed and shrugged my shoulders.
"I'm the FBI, I can do whatever I want"
"First, no you can't, second, you're on a forced leave"
"I'm not on forced leave" I fought back  "turns out I'm not useful here, every time I try and talk with superiors or co-workers of other tasks forces they need me somewhere else, like Columbia or London or Paris and I can't leave"
"Can't or won't?"
"Don't want to" I gave Maggie a quick look, then at Alma "mainly because of her, don't want her to grow up on me"
"Oh, mainly because of her and what about me?" She said offended.
"You barely pay attention to me" I teased, she made a whinny noise ad she stood up "and every time you're home you're on your computer and working" I kept fakely whining.
She rounded my shoulders standing behind me and leaned in to kiss my cheek, then a little bit down my jaw and neck.
"It's awful how much I've downplayed you not working, and now that it's happening to me I feel so useless"
"Oh yeah, because you not working for a week is seriously going to halt the household's economy" I dramatized, Mags pulled back and patted me on the shoulders.
I heard her phone ring on the background, and Mags walked to it whilst I finished with Alma's food.
I looked at my girl whilst Maggie talked on the phone. She was looking bigger and bigger each day, she made some random noises from time to time, if we were alone she would suddenly cry out and yell. Maggie told me because she was finding her voice so she yelled a lot.
Maggie left her phone on the kitchen table and looked at me, I stood up and took the plates. Alma yelled at me.
"Hey" I said back, she yelled at me again with a little shriek, I took the plates and turned around, looking at Mags smile at us.
We cleaned the table and by the time I was going to put the plates in the dishwasher Alma had yelled so much that Maggie had to take her from the high chair and hold her.
She stood next to me whilst I loaded the remaining things.
"Very coincidentally I was put on suspension right before Christmas week"
"That's good then, you always plan out a lot of things for Christmas"
"Yeah" she said a little unenthusiastically "maybe I don't wanto do anything crazy for Christmas, I mean I know we used to spend it with my sister but, she's now divorced and" she motioned at Alma with a shake of her head "we have her around so... What do you think?"
I leaned on the kitchen counter and strolled my eyes between her and Alma.
"About what?"
"About spending Christmas and New Year's Eve just the three of us"
I gave her a little smile and walked to them.
"Well you know me, as long as it's the three of us and I don't have to socialize too much"
She chuckled then shook her head.
"I wish you had a group of friends to go out with sometimes, to drink a beer or play pool, do manly stuff"
"I get shot sometimes, that's manly"
"That's reckless"
"I thought girls liked reckless"
"Not these two" she motioned at Alma again with her head.
"I'm planning on going back to work after the New Year's, I've talked to some friends about getting something something here in DC, locally, paperwork and stuff like that"
"That sounds very not like you, but okay"
I leaned in to give her a kiss on the forehead.
"Excuse me" I said taking Alma on my arms. I walked around her, leaving Mags with a little frown on her face
"Uuh, you excuse me, I was holding her"
"Yes, but we have like a little routine and you being here isn't going to interrupt it" I sat down in the couch and put Alma on my lap, then searched for the PS4 controller in a compartment the couch had, Alma laid on my chest when I sat back and pushed a few buttons.
"She goes to sleep like that?" Maggie asked giving us a look, I looked down at Alma, who looked like she was already all set to take a nap.
"Yeah" I said double checking on her.
"With the sounds of you shooting at the cops in GTA 5" she motioned at the TV.
"If I can sleep with a shout-out in the background so can she"
I looked down at Alma again, then moved my hand on top of her head, caressing her side. That was enough to make her fully close her eyes. I kissed the top of her head.
"She can get used to that"
"I'm hopping" I said looking at the screen, I felt Maggie's lips on my forehead, then walked towards the exit.
When I was alone, I couldn't help to pause the game and let the controller on the couch. I didn't know if returning to work was going to be as good as I expected, but I had to be in that mental space by the time Liz woke up.
If and when she woke up.

Ressler.
I've  always thought that the phrase "happy wife, happy life" was nothing but nonsense. I didn't undestrand how the wellbeing of someone else could affect yours so much, we were all responsible for our own happiness in the end.
It wasn't until I met, dated and eventually married Maggie that I understood the truth within that sentence. She could instantly twist the general energy of her surroundings depending if she was happy or sad.
I confirmed this statement when she got pregnant, even though some other things were happening to me, I was still very happy and as thrilled as her, when she neared down to the labor and she was insufferable, I felt that way too, and everything around me felt bad, felt negative.
So, now that we'd brought our baby home, she was just... I don't know how to describe her. I was also excited to have her, a baby really did change everything, but Maggie, she was in a trance of sorts.
She had Alma on her arms everyday, all day, she wouldn't put her down. If she had to go to the bathroom eventually she'd  left her in the crib and didn't  pick her up afterwards, but if Alma so much as sighed in discomfort she'd  pick her up and carry her. I also got to carry her a lot and I understood why she liked to have  her so much, she was like this little ball of I don't  know what and once she touched you it was electrifying, I loved having her on my chest... I just loved the baby in general.
Maggie also had a constant smile on her face when she looked down at Alma, I'd taken a lot of pictures of them both because I couldn't think of another two people who were more perfect  than them.
Mags had also recovered spectacularly which only made me admire her more. Between her and my mom staying at the house for a week after Alma was born it was a surprisingly easy transition from two to three people. Ethan had assured me I had no idea how bad it was going to get. Looking now at Mags cuddling Alma on her chest, her cheek pressed against the top of her head as she quietly patted her back, I didn't know how things could go bad.
I smiled down at them and sat next to her on the couch, I'd  just returned from leaving my mom at the airport for her to catch a quick fly back home. I had my laptop on my hand and placed it on my lap whilst sitting next to her.
I gave her a quick look, she was looking at me with a little twist of her eyebrow as she smirked a little.
"What are you doing?" She asked. I opened a few tabs and showed them to her "Oh my God" she whispered as she looked at the computer "your mom just left and your daughter has been born for barely a week, and you already want to move us out of the house"
"Precisely because she's tiny and doesn't make much of a fuss I want to move us out, when she gets bigger is going to be more difficult."
I motioned at the screen and selected a few houses.
"I want one with just one floor, the stairs are getting annoying" I selected a few things and filtered the results "does it have to be in that neighborhood?"
"It's the best neighborhood there is, I've researched it"
"Researched it" she repeated mocking me a little "the houses are expensive there"
"Don't look at the prices" I dismissed and selected a few, we spent maybe one hour looking at all the houses, the space, the bedrooms, I knew we would need to go and actually see some, but we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted.
We'd swapped items and I was now holding Alma as Mags was searching the houses. I don't know if it was a good or a bad thing to search houses with an architect, she threw around some phrases like the insulation is horrible, the floor is not good for heavy transit, the electric wiring sucks, I don't know how she knew those things just from looking at pictures but I didn't dare to question her or doubt her.
"I think this one is a really good one, it's big and the distribution is very good, it has some space for my office, the baby room, you can have an office right here, the master bedroom is abnormally big, walk-in closet sounds amazing, specially for you"
"For me?" I interrupted "you have more clothes than I do."
"Yeah but your suits take more space, and you have more shoes than I"
"No I don't"
"Yeah, you do, I've counted" she assured me with a little smile. Alma began to stir in my arms and I had to stand up to rock her, something I'd learned very quickly, to keep the baby calm you have to rock her all the time.  "And it doesn't have a big back garden, that's good because I can't be bothered to keep a back garden"
"Where's she gonna play?" She gave me a look at then at Alma.
"Inside" she replied, I tsked my tongue.
"She's not going to play inside, she has to have some things outside, I've already looked for a swing set, and a tree house"
I saw Maggie chuckle, then hold her stomach as she frowned.
"Stop, I can't laugh still" she left the computer on the couch and leaned back "listen I appreciate you being so excited but you're getting too far ahead with everything. She's not going on a swing set for at least two more years"
"Don't tell me what to do" I mocked her, she always threw that card around when I asked her not to do something, something meaningless like to not buy me things.
She gave me a little smile and leaned in to kiss my lips quietly.
"Okay, we'll look for one with the big garden, but you're going to maintain it" she pointed at me threateningly.
"I already keep the garden here"
"Well, you're used to it then" I followed her to the kitchen, leaving Alma in a little crib we had downstairs. Mags and I spent a lot of time in the kitchen/living room, so we had one little crib down here, it was a simple one and it didn't take much space, we only put her in the crib in her room when we were heading to bed.
"Playing outside boosts the inmune system and increases confidence."
"Yeah, I get it, I used to play outside too" my mom had left us quite a bit of already cooked food, I silently thanked her for that. "You just went from 0 to a 100 so fast. Are you seriously going to get her a tree house?"
"Why not?" I shrugged, Maggie let out a little smile and placed the food in the oven, then leaned in to me, I hugged her by the shoulders and kissed her forehead.
"I wouldn't have asked for anyone better than you to have kids with" she said muffled in my chest, I smiled and kissed her forehead again.
"Right back at you love"
We stood there, hugging eachother for a little while, out of all the things I'd read, one that was very important, at least for me, was the part about support and contention of the mom, Mags was still my everything and even though I'd added another person under my care, taking care of Maggie was taking care of the both of them.
We spent the rest of the night and the following day looking for houses, I was still a little grateful to the task force and to Reddington for giving me the spare time to take care of my new family, but I was getting a little restless. There had been times where I didn't have to work, but I had been stalled for 3 months now. I'd noticed that I'd fallen into another routine that didn't quite accomodate to my work, and that worried me a little. I also began to worry a bit too much about Maggie and I eventually going back to work, I didn't wanted anyone I didn't completely trust near my daughter, and the list of people I trusted was very very short, I knew we'd have to get her a babysitter as soon as Maggie could go back to work, I hated the idea already.
In the meantime between Mags and I being out of work, she still reviewed some things from the hotel and the casino, the construction was nearing down the it's completion and she was still on top of everything, it would be pretty unlike her not to be.
At the end of the first week we started to have family around, Maggie had her sister around and the kids were so amazed at the baby.
Within the end of the second week, I was taking Maggie to see a a few of  the we'd picked, I'd made sure that they were all in a very nice neighborhood I'd seen, it was a little far away from my work and Mag's, but the place was so amazingly secured I was willing to take the risk, it was fenced, it had security, cameras,  just about everything, on the way there we saw what you'd expect to see in a high-class neighborhood, people running, kids in bikes, people with their dogs.
"Aw" I heard Maggie say as she looked back. "Look at that doggy" I felt her eyes look at me from the passenger side. "Did you look?"
"I didn't, I hated dogs"
"You don't" she said, I gave her a quick look and a smile.
"I do cupcake, especially that one your sister has, the rat with legs, hate that one"
"It's a Pomeranian-"
"Hideous" I interrupted.
"Her name is Dutchess"
"They're a nightmare"
"And when she has babies, Madison said she'll give us one"
"Absolutely not" I said parking the car in the cul de sac.
I got off the car and was finally able to see the disbelief look Maggie was giving me presumably this whole time. I felt the keys in my pocket to make sure I wasn't forgetting anything, then met Maggie on the other side of the car were she was taking Alma out with her baby carrier, we had one that had a handle on top and it moved around to carry her in the basinet or to adjust  it to the back of the car.
"This is a thing" she declared as I took the carrier from her and she closed the door. It had been a while since she'd given birth but I didn't wanted her to do any sort of heavy lifting just yet.
I held her by the hand and pulled her to the front of the house.
"We'll talk about that later, for now" I motioned at the house with my hand, the one that was holding hers. "What do you think?"
We stood there for maybe a full minute whilst Maggie looked at the house.
"It's really nice, I don't like the houses that have the peaked roofs, and this one has a modern look to it, also, the big window panes are amazing, lots of natural light throughout the day, kind of a pain in the ass during winter because the glass is very-"
I knew that she was going to be like this, it was kind of her job to review the structure of the building and to look at every single thing in a house or a building, at the same time I wished she wasn't so critical about everything because it made this house hunting travesty that, a travesty.
"I get it" it said after she finished "but do you like it?"
"Oh yeah, I love it" she said with a nod. "Let's see the inside"
Inside the house, it was the reaction and behavior I was expecting of a person who is going to check out a new house.
She walked around looking at the house, the space, the rooms, the floor, the walls, then almost died when she checked the in suite bedroom and bathroom. Partially because it was a good and big bathroom, and partially because the bathtub had a curtain and I thought it would be funny to scare her.
In a millisecond it took me to pull the curtain open and stomp behind her she let out a little scream and buckled her arms to her side, as soon as she realized it was me when I hugged her from behind she began to laugh nervously, I kissed her cheek and joined her in her laugh, though she didn't have time enough time to calm down because Alma began to cry from behind us, I'd left her carrier in the naked bed of the room. Maggie quickly dashed past me and took her in her arms.
"I'm sorry I woke you up" she said as she cradled her on her chest and shushed her "daddy scared me" she said with another little chuckle.
We made our way out of the bedroom and checked the garage, it fitted both our cars perfectly.
"So, what's the verdict on this one?" I said locking the door behind me and looking at Mags, she was still holding Alma and by the looks of her she needed to be fed because she was doing that thing babies do when they have their pacifier, like a little muffled mumble to indicate that even though they had the pacifier they were about to start bawling.
"I like it a lot, the distribution is great, the spaces aren't too big or too small and the room that has the glass panel looking to the back garden? I'm in love with that one" she said over her shoulder. I opened the door and left the carrier in the seat on the back, Maggie sat down in the other side. "I'm going to feed her on the way there"
I closed the door and got in the driver seat. The other house was 5 more blocks inside the neighborhood. I liked this one because if something happened, like we get attacked or robbed, it's a major trek back to the entrance and the perps could be easily intercepted in between, the place also had a little guard post and healthcare post near this house, and those always came in handy. Needless to say, because of all this advantages this house was more expensive than the last one.
"So, about the dog" she resumed "she needs to have a dog"
"By the law, kids only need to have health, education, free life, protection, and live in an environment that enables all these rights" I looked at her in the rearview mirror "I didn't read 'dog' in the children's rights panflet"
"But pets are important to children, they stimulate their sense of social interaction and responsibility"
"So does school"
"Don" she whined, I looked at her again through the mirror and saw her pouting at me, I chuckled and turned left in the street where the house was "I want a puppy"
"You have a human puppy right there" I parked in the driveway and stopped the car. I looked back at her and Alma, she was craddling to her chest as she fed her, Maggie looked at me and pouted again. "That doesn't work anymore"
Maggie looked down at Alma again and made sure she was sleeping before she pulled her away from her chest and into the carrier again. I got off the car and made the same procedure again of taking the baby out of the car.
"Oh this is the McKenzie house" she said from the other side of the car. I walked around it as I activated the alarm.
"The McKenzie house?"
"Yeah, I did some work on it" when I got next to her I felt her hand slip into mine, together we walked up the stairs and opened the door. "I already know I like this house, the best part? The bathroom upstairs has a big walk-in shower and it has an hidro-massage system in the shower wall for your back"
We walked inside and it was my turn to be surprised, even though it wasn't furnished, the house was great, and I hoped Maggie would end up liking it because I could see myself living here. Everything was modern, the kitchen appliances were "slick" as Maggie would call them, it even had an incinerator in the corner of the kitchen island, it was a nice touch. The house had in-floor heating which I liked because Maggie tended to get sick a lot in the winter.
We'd split up because Maggie wanted to check out the house and Alma wasn't feeling the carrier anymore, so I had to ditch that and hold her.
I walked inside of one of the bedrooms to look at it, it had a decent size and the walls were painted pink, which made me decide that it was going to be Alma's room when we moved here.
"What do you think?" Alma was now awake, but I knew that it wouldn't last long, I was still holding her to my chest, I looked down at smiled, she was the cutest thing I'd ever seen "this could be your room. For your room in general I was thinking, you know-" I motioned at the space "the bed, and a doll house here, your mom says she's going the build you a tent, like a tipi tent, but also I want a whole wall painted with washable paint, so you can draw on it with markers. That's going to be a problem because you in your little kid mind are going to think that if painting in one wall is fine you're going to want to paint in all the others that are not fine but-"
"What are you doing?" Maggie called from behind me, I turned around, watched her little frown.
"You've so rudely interrupted my explanation to her about the room"
"Okay, I'm sorry" she said with a stiffled laugh.
"What's up?" I walked to her, Maggie took all the time in the world to look at Alma, smile at her, then leaned in to kiss her little cheek a few times.
"How about we get to the painful part where you tell me how much the house costs, because it's pretty obvious we can't afford it and I don't even know why where here"
I gave Maggie a little smirk.
"I don't know if 'we' can afford it, but you can"
She blinked at me once, then frowned and looked at me in disbelief.
"Am I..." She stressed the word "rich? And I didn't know?"
"Well, you are, and you do know. Your tax reports in the last years, specifically the one were you worked with Reddington..."
"I know what I did with my tax reports" she interrupted me. She continued to frown at me, then crossed her arms at her chest. "And you're okay with me buying this house with money I laundered when I worked with Reddington?"
"There's a lot of things I'm not okay with, but we already live in a house Reddington bought for you, so, why not upgrade?"
Maggie had always been very expressive with her hands and her facial expressions, I loved her when with just a little frown and a little shake of her hand she explained her whole though process.
"You-" she pointed at me "first thing, we are going to buy the house because" she gave me a fast shake of her head "I'm not going to say no if you agree but-" she pointed at me again "you're going back home, and get on a suit and go back to do your thing because your whole-" she motioned at me and my attire "polo shirt and leather jacket persona-"
I chuckled and interrupted her with a fast kiss on her lips.
"It's not you and one of us has to be the one with the principles" she continued.
I reflected a little on that phrase because she was right, and she was already the one with the direct affiliation with Reddington.
"I objectively reviewed your tax reports and your earnings and I don't see a possible in on you, and no possible conection with Reddington. You've done the laundering so meticulously and patiently that it would be stupid to doubt where the funds came from if not from your day job. I wouldn't have aimed this high if I hadn't calculated this play and it's outcomes"
Maggie gave me a little look, one that told me that she wanted to tell me something, make a comment or a witty remark, but then another one of her facial expressions told me she didn't really wanted to get in a fight with me, and she was willing to let it go.
"And I haven't compromised my principles, I'm not the one going to jail if something happens" I joked, she gave me another look to tell me that it wasn't funny, but snuck her hand on her back pocket to retrieve her phone.
"Okay, I can call my accountant and have him call the realtor and all that" she gave me a little look to make sure that I wasn't going to be backing out on the house, I just gave her a nod and  watched as she typed a quick message to someone.
When she finished, we headed out of the bedroom and out of the house, I heard her type on her phone answering to texts and things while I secured Alma in her seat and in the back of the car. Once I sat in the driver's seat and a secured my seatbelt Maggie spoke again.
"I meant what I said" I looked at her as I turned the car on and turned it on gear.
"About me going back to work?"
"About you being the one with the principles" I began to drive slowly through the neighborhood towards the exit "I don't want you to think that you're compromised forever because of the whole fixer situation, you're still good"
One of my hands slipped from the steering wheel and landed on her thigh, Maggie's hand quickly found mine.
"I only care about what you think about me, and you accepting my mistakes and what's to come. In return I accept you as you are and the deals you've made and who you've made them with" I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't see in terms of black and white anymore, like what is right and what's wrong. I mean you have the money from Reddington but so do many other people, and they live comfortable lives and no one is squeaky clean anymore... Reddington got the president of the United States to pardon Keen, so... Why should I even bother"
"Because it's who you are" she replied quickly "you're an agent, and you bring people to Justice"
I smiled to myself and parked the car almost at the entrance, I pulled on the hand break and looked at her.
"Okay, you completely glossed over the fact that I killed the National Security Advisor and I will gloss over the fact that we're going to buy a house with money that you laundered from jobs you did to the fourth most wanted criminal in America, we're even, and we can't commit any more crimes, deal?"
She chuckled at me and shook her head in disbelief.
"Okay, deal" she unbuckle her seatbelt to lean over me and kiss me, but stopped a few inches short "but wait, can we put this in effect next week? Because I still need to deal with your ex"

Ressler.
The days after I first met Julian to work with him, Mags and I had the first ultrasound to meet our baby, when we first found out about her state, she was barely 7 weeks along, and we had to wait the remaining time for the 12th and the ultrasound. I'd noticed Mags had a little bump below her belly button, I was used of her stomach laying straight down all the time, and the smallest change I noticed in a second. She was still blissfully unaware of the shit show that was going to fall upon us.
Julian was an extreme researcher, he really got into the mind of the perpetrator, in this case Reddington. He knew every detail in the reports of the victims, he didn't miss a date, a connection, he reviewed everything a thousand times. Working with him brought me back on some level of attention to detail I'd long lost.
The following days, with Reddington dealing with his own stuff and chasing the cleaner, I got word from a detective in Philly who said he could have a break on my case. I went home to pack a bag and let Mags know I was heading there to talk to her.
That was the single worst decision I'd made. The witness was a set up.
I found myself now in a containment cell back in DC with a terrible headache, a pit in my stomach of thinking what they would do to me, and another even darker pit of knowing that I'd been pumped full of drugs, that's what I was worried about the most. I didn't wanted my past addiction to be a thing again.
I'd been stripped from my badge, taken out of the taskforce, treated like a criminal, I'd been manipulated, used, wronged, and I couldn't reach the only person who would make me feel better.
"You've got five minutes" I heard one of the guards say, I lifted my head up towards the door of the cell with a frown, then watched as Mags figure appeared from the side.
I stood up and walked to her, my arms slipped between the bars to hold her by the waist.
"Maggie, Mags I-"
"Hey hey" she stopped me, placing her hands on my neck and looking into my eyes "Samar told me what happened, alright? I'm just here to see how you're holding up and to tell you that everything is fine"
I shook my head and pressed my forehead to one of the bars.
"This is not fine, none of this is fine"
Mag's hand lifted up to the side of my head.
"That's an awful bruise, what was that?"
"I'm sorry" she moved her hand down on my cheek, stroking it slowly.
"None of this is your fault Don. Out of all the people Kate could've gone after you weren't supposed to be one of them. But they're working on getting you out alright?"
I couldn't look at her, I was so ashamed, ashamed for being manipulated the way I was, for being weak.
"Hey, stop it" she said pulling my head up to look at her again, as if she knew what was going on in my head "none of this is your fault. You'll be cleared tomorrow, and hopefully we can laugh about this whole situation in the future"
When I heard the footsteps walking down the hall again, probably to retrieve Maggie, I held her hands and placed a kiss on her knuckles.
"I'll see you tomorrow, alright?" I nodded, kissing her hand one more time before she was led outside.
I felt terrible with myself, specially after Cooper told me I was under investigation and out of active duty. I was free to work with Julian, but I didn't wanted to have anything to do with anything. The whole situation left me nauseous, I hated everything and everyone. Reddington, Hitchin, Kaplan, Krilov, Gale, everyone. I felt like everyone was out to get us.
The next day, when I was released under investigation, I headed to Mag's work, she had to be at the construction site almost everyday, and I knew that's where I'd find her.
She'd been reached on the radio and made aware of my presence, after a few minutes I exited the car when I saw her make her way to me. I held her tight, feeling her body mold to mine.
"Told you everything was going to be fine" she assured, I sighed and pulled back, holding her by the neck and pulling her for a kiss.
"I'm sorry"
"Stop" she shook her head "stop being sorry, you have nothing to feel sorry for."
"I'm going to find a way to make everything alright"
"I know you will" she leaned in to kiss my lips again, and I moved my hand from her waist to her stomach. I'd never done that, but I'd seen her absentmindedly rub it when she was sitting in the sofa, or on the computer. "We're fine, and I need you to be fine as well. So do what you have to do"
I nodded, kissing her lips again and hugging her tight. I was going to do anything in my power to stop the indictment, Gale, whoever was fighting Reddington, everyone. For Mags, for the three of us.
I resumed my work with Julian, he was always in the morgue, always looking at the bodies, always trying to communicate with them.
I don't know how he'd gotten my address, but he had, and one night he showed up with three boxes of files for us to look up.
I was a little confused when I opened the door and found him standing on the other side, and immediately got worried because Mags was supposed to be back in an hour, and I couldn't afford her saying something she wasn't supposed to.
"Are you gonna stand there all day?" He asked, I opened the door further and grabbed one of the boxes he was holding, releasing some of the weight from him.
"Who gave you my address?" I asked, he walked in and I shut the door with my foot.
"The bureau, why? Are you hiding something?"
I motioned at him to keep walking, then set the boxes on the kitchen table.
"No, but I don't want people to be looking at these" I opened one of them I looked around, most of the files that were here were redacted by me. Most of them were from people we'd tried to get them to give up information about Reddington, we promised protection, and here's where they'd ended up, in a box, a file number, a casualty.
"Wow, wow" I lifted my eyes to Julian, who was holding a framed photo of Mags and I on our wedding "is this the missus?" He shot me a glance.
"Yes, that's her"
"Where did you get her from?" He placed the frame back down in the table and opened another one of the boxes.
"She's from Maryland, she moved here 5 years ago, that's when I met her" I explained a little.
"Does she know what you do?"
"She knows the necessary. And I would prefer it if she didn't came back from work and saw the kitchen table full of bodies"
He just chuckled and got to work. Most of the people in the ice rink I had accounted for, and we were able to set up a timeline. Julian had a few other bodies who were identified but he hadn't been able to get the files, all of them were names on the blacklist, I knew not being able to get the files would spark some suspicion in him.
We'd set up the victims in a timeline, and some of them dated years back, the John Does that he had the bodies but not the files dated from 2013, which is roughly the time when the Reddington taskforce was disband, and a new Reddington taskforce was created.
The front door opened and in came Maggie, phone in hand.
"Can you do me a favor and look up in the file the name of the person in charge of the project?" She left her things on the kitchen island and walked around it towards the fridge, she hadn't noticed us. "Oh my God that's my name! And because it is my name you are going to do exactly as I say, and if I say the walls need to be 5 inches thicker, then you will make them five inches thicker, and I don't care if you have to tear them down and redo them, you wouldn't have to if you'd followed my instructions in the first place."
Boy was she mad. I walked to her, she gave me an annoyed roll of her eyes when she saw me.
"And tell Gabriel this is the last time I'm working with him- no no no" she said quickly "I've had you scheduled for a month in advance, first he fucks up and delays the start, now he fucks up the measurements that I personally reminded him of five times. I'm one mental breakdown away from pulling your people out of the site and hiring someone new."
She handed me her water bottle, which I took and opened, she started angrily at it, then took it whilst listening to the other person talk.
"You're gonna stay after hours to fix up this fuck up, and next time you or Gabriel cross me... You don't want to see me mad" she threatened.
She hung up and gave me a chuckle.
"Was that too much? You think he bought it?" She gave the water a big gulp.
"I bought it" I leaned in to kiss her lips, then motioned at Julian, who had witnessed the whole charade. "Baby, this a friend from work, Julian Gale"
She turned wide eyes to him, placing a hand on her chest.
"Oh my God" she gave me a little look "Donald what the hell, I'm going full mafia on people with the police in the house?" She walked to Julian and extended her hand. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean that" she said with a smile. Julian shook her hand "I'm Maggie"
"It's a pleasure, Donnie here is very hush hush about you, I'm pleasantly surprised"
She chuckled and moved her eyes to the table, quickly turning away.
"On my God baby, is that like, dead people? Ugh" she exaggeratedly shivered. "I'm sorry I'm too queasy, especially now" she moved her hand to touch her stomach.
"Oh, wow, you're multiplying already?"
She gave him a smile and looked at me.
"Yeah, Agent Ressler here can't keep his hands to himself" she kissed me on the cheek and patted my shoulder. "okay, I'm gonna go upstairs to yell at more people who think they know more than I do at my own job, and leave you guys to keep working" she motioned at Julian "it's been a pleasure."
She gave me one last look before taking her things and going upstairs.
We spent another two hours working on the files, but there was not much else we could do besides waiting for the remaining files Gale had requested. Those obviously will never reach him, the classification levels on them were too far from his reach. He politely declined Mag's offer to stay for dinner, and left shortly after that.
She'd moved her laptop back down to the table and was looking into the fridge for something to cook.
"Your acting is very impressive" I said to her, she gave me a little smile and closed the fridge, taking some ground beef with her.
"Do you think he bought the unaware wife role? The last thing we need is for him to know that I used to work for Reddington as well" I agreed.
I stopped to look at her cook, and tried to make a mental check of when was the last time I'd actually stopped to look at my wife.
She'd gotten a haircut, she thought I didn't noticed but I did, it was extremely subtle. She'd also gotten the finger tattoo she told me about ages ago, two little letters were now printed on her skin forever, D.R. She was using her reading glasses more often, since she was constantly on her phone or computer, and when she wasn't she was reading papers, prints. The most notorious change was her stomach, she barely had anything noticable for anyone who didn't spent that much time with her, but I'd grown to know every curve of her body, and the little one forming on her stomach, the one that signaled she was growing someone else inside of her, that was my close second favorite, the first one will always be her smile.
She'd busied herself with dinner, but when she had to stand still next to the stove, I led my hand to her stomach again. She looked down at my hand and then up at me with the biggest of smiles.
"You're showing a bit"
"Yeah?" She asked taking her shirt and pulling up "I don't know, I think it's too early."
"I would know, this wasn't here before" I placed my lips on her shoulder, watching her cook from over her shoulder.
"Your friend sound like trouble" she commented.
Yes, he was trouble. He was even more trouble when he ID'd Tanida. That gave him a direct jab at me, and I had to tell him everything, because in his head I was the only one involved in this Reddington thing, but the truth was that I was dragged into this.
I became a mess of a person when Mags called me that very day in lunch time, to tell me that Julian had intercepted her at lunch.
I'd run a program to encrypt the call, just in case Julian had tapped my line.
"Talk to me" I said as soon as the program finished.
"I'm having lunch at the cafe and he just sat down and began rambling like 'do you know what your husband is up to? He's into some serious shit, he might go to jail. If you tell me everything you know, if you testify I can protect you' bla bla bla."
"And what did you tell him?"
"I told him that I didn't know what you were up to, and if you were in trouble that you knew what you were doing and if you knew the risks, so did I. He also insinuated something about Raymond like he mentioned his name and were like 'do you know this guy' whatever, I told him to leave me alone or I would call the police and he left"
I was in my desk, sitting and listening to her, I gave her a tired sigh and rubbed my eyes.
"Is this happening like right now? The jail thing?"
"Yes, why do you think I'm so disturbed?"
"I thought this could take months, like most trials do" she excused herself. She sighed out loud "I'm like getting lightheaded, I don't need this right now"
"Hey hey hey" I tried to calm her down "take deep breaths okay, we're working on an angle for Reddington to help us with the indictment. Don't worry"
"Okay" she said quietly "when's the trial?"
"Aram was called tomorrow afternoon to testify to a grand jury, he's not going to give us up, I'll fix this"
"Okay" she repeated "I believe you" I sighed again, rubbing my forehead "we need a vacation after this" she said with a little nervous chuckle. I half smiled and nodded my head.
"Yeah, we do. I'll call you later okay?" I said when I saw Liz walk in the office "I love you"
"I love you too" she said, then hung up the call.
"It was Mags" I said throwing the phone on the desk "says Gale is going at her."
"We're on our way to talk to Dixon's brother, hopefully we can work this one out before tomorrow."
Luckily, we did, but I didn't expect it to be at the expenses of Reven Wright's case resolution. Knowing that I'd somehow failed her made me nauseous, Hitchin got to walk free, and so did we. What I had to give up, I gave it up because of Mags, and our family. I couldn't afford her going through me going to jail, and the both of us having to raise a child in those conditions.
Maggie had to delay telling her sister about her pregnancy for almost two weeks after we did the ultrasound. Between all the comings and goings of Red's problems, she'd had to reschedule dinner with her at least three times. When I arrived home after being in the clear from the grand jury, I saw her sister's car parked outside.
I opened the door to see her poke her head from the kitchen, then walked quickly to me.
"What happened?" She asked with a frown.
"We're good" she lifted her eyebrows at me.
"For real?" I hummed affirmatively and held her by the waist, kissing her lips quickly.
"Yeah, Reddington helped. Is your sister here?" I pulled her to the kitchen, walking as we spoke.
"Yeah, she just showed up,she got mad at me for postponing dinner so many times she just dropped on us, we were going to ask for pizza."
"Have you told her?" As soon as I walked to the kitchen, Madison was sitting in the kitchen table and heard me.
"Told her what?" She asked whilst she took a sip of her glass.
"Maggie's pregnant" I said. She instantly choked on her water, making Ethan next to her stiffle a laugh and pat her back.
"I knew that already" he said smugly
"No you didn't" Mags walked to her sister with a kitchen cloth. Madison rose up from her seat to hug her, and I assumed the tears on here eyes weren't just from the water she'd tried to drink.
Madison didn't leave Maggie's side during the dinner, she just looked at her and hugged her and reached out to touch her stomach. I just assumed it was her motherly instinct taking over, Madison had basically been Mag's mom, she's taken care of her, half raised her.
Once the dinner was over, Mags was upstairs undressing and changing into her pajama when I entered.
"So" she said looking at me "what happened? How did you fix it"
I sighed in a little annoyance and sat on the bed, getting changed as well.
"I had to give up Reven Wright."
"Give up who?" She asked.
I laid on the bed and waited for her to turn off the light and make her way to the bed.
"Reven Wright, Hitchin killed her, and I've been going through her reports to see if she'd slipped on something so I could charge her. She hired a fixer who cleaned the traces. He led us to her body, and I had the proof I wanted to charge Hitchin. I had to give it away if we wanted her to squash the grand jury investigation"
"Ow" she lamented, placing her hand on my chest "I'm sorry baby. But Reven knows you know the truth, I bet she's thankful you found her and were able to give her some peace."
She moved closer, my hand landed on the side of her thigh and pulled it over on my stomach, feeling her closer.
"So you're going back to work?"
"Yes, I have to go and retrieve my badge tomorrow. Still, I don't know what's gonna happen, Reddington is broke and powerless. It could take time and I want to do other things"
"What other things?" She inquired.
"Well, house hunting, we need a bigger house."
"We 100% do not need a bigger house"
"Yeah we do, where are you going to put the baby?"
"I'll move my office downstairs and get rid of the guest room"
"No, we're getting a bigger house."
"We're not"
We were.

Maggie.
I must admit I wanted Raymond to piss Donald more often, because the sex I got after that was amazing. It was in the delicious verge between passionate and rough, and I'd expressed my satisfaction to Don, he was more than happy to keep doing what he was doing, after all the both of us enjoyed ourselves when he got in bed.
After the scare with his brother he was told by Liz and Cooper that Raymond could be under attack, and he preferred to deal with it on his own for now. In the week after that Don and I staid at the hotels where I was going to snoop around, in the night we would hang out down in the restaurant or the lounge, then head upstairs to bother the other guests with my incessant moaning.
I was working non stop since the digging was done, my plan for the vault was to set in the the lowest part of the hotel, that way we could have more opportunities if it was reached, there could be a persuit and confrontation in the parking lot, but the ten floors of parking space were a definite advantage, since the way up could take a while, there could be time to cut the power in case the elevator was compromised, there could be time to set up a road block in the exit of the parking lot or the adjacent roads before the ones that connected to the city. Unless we got attacked by Danny Ocean, this was a good place for the vault.
I was scratching things off my to-do list for the day when I saw the date.
I had been keeping extensive track of myself since I stopped taking the pills, and I'd tried to not think about it too much. It had definitively worked, because now I was looking at the numbers in my agenda and how none of them were circled out like I did when I got my period.
I turned the pages around until I passed a week, then two, three, four, five. I stopped and then turned back to the page I was originally on.
Five weeks since my last period. I instantly felt my palms sweating and a million thoughts racing on my head, was this it? Was I? Should I take the tests now? Should I wait one more week? Do I tell Don? Or do I tell him when I know?
I stood up and nervously paced around the office in my house, rubbing my forehead with one hand.
Oh my God this was it, I had to take the test.
I was walking down the stairs but stopped halfway, and I guess Don got confused about my indecision of coming down or not he peaked his head around the kitchen frame and looked at me. Apparently I didn't look very good.
"Are you okay?" He asked walking around and get to where I was.
I didn't know what to do. I started to move my arms between me and him to somehow gesticulate what was going through my head, which was a lot.
"I..." I placed my hands on my hips, he walked up the stairs and stood one step below me, his eyes matching mine, I gave him a nervous laugh and shook my head "I'm freaking out"
"Noticed" he said with a little smile, placing his hands on my hips and pulling me closer. "Why, is it about work?"
"No" I shook my head dismissively "I have a delay" I finally whispered. He searched in my eyes for a bit, then I continued "you know, in my period" he lifted his eyebrows to me, finally getting it. "And you know I'm like-" I shook my head nervously "I don't know what to do, should I wait? Should I do the tests now? And I was debating whether or not to tell you like, would you want to just know or be with me with the test is being done? I dont-" I grunted in complain and threw my head back "Don help me" he chuckled and walked up the step to match me, then began walking up whilst holding me from the waist.
"Do you have tests here?"
"Yeah, I do"
"Well, let's take one, what do you have to lose?"
The both of us kept walking to the bedroom. I had a lot to lose, my sanity for one, if I wasn't pregnant I was going to be a wreck for the next few weeks, but I also couldn't afford waiting knowing that I was delayed, that would only make me more distracted and that couldn't happen.
I pulled out a bag from one of the drawers and took out the tests.
"Why would you buy five?" He asked looking at the boxes.
"Because there are false negatives so I wanted to do a lot of tests to make sure"
I began walking to the bathroom, Don was right behind me, in the front of the door after I opened it it I turned to him.
"I'm nervous"
He pushed me gently into the bathroom while leaning to kiss my forehead.
"When you do it you'll be more relaxed, come on" he encouraged.
I had to splash some water on my face before sitting in the toilet and doing the tests, I did the five that I had. There were all from different brands just to make sure.
When I exited I rubbed my forehead and left the door open.
"I'm a mess" I declared. He was sitting in the bed, he gave his watch a quick look.
"How long do we have to wait?"
"5 minutes" I walked and sat next to him, leaning my head on his shoulder. He moved to hug me and bring me closer to him, placing another kiss on my forehead. I waited for a while, just looking ahead. "How long's it been?"
"Like 39 seconds" I complained again and laid on the bed, pulling him by the arm and making him lay next to me on the bed, I mixed my legs with his and placing my head on his chest.
"What if I'm not?" I asked quietly, Don's hand had landed on my waist, and made it's way up my back and my ribs.
"Then we'll keep trying. It could take time"
I remained silent, because yes, he was right, but also I was very impatient in these matters, and this whole situation has reduced me into a whining complaining mess, and I usually wasn't like this. But this was a situation that I had never gone through, and from now on everything was new for me.
I didn't know some of the test gave up a little beep when the time had passed, but that definitively startled me and made me bolt from the bed. I was about to enter the bathroom, but turned around immediately and doubled back.
"Oh my God I can't look I'm going to cry-" I rubbed my eyes and jumped a little in my spot, Don gave me a chuckle, clearly amused at my freaked out state. "I can't look, you go and look" I pulled him by the arm and off the bed, when he stood up and pushed him to the bathroom and then walked away from it.
"What are they supposed to say?" He asked, I didn't know if he was messing with me or he was actually serious.
"It's like two lines in some and a plus sign in others" I said, I don't know how I had my hands holding each other and squeezing hard.
"Oh, then yeah" he answered from the bathroom. I stood frozen in the room, looking in the bathroom.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah".
Ressler.
Yeah, she was pregnant, I was going to be a dad.
From the bedroom, Maggie let out a scream that made me laugh, she came rushing to the bathroom and jumped on me, making me stumble back when I got her, luckily the wall caught us, her lips were on mine in a millisecond, her hands grabbed my neck and pulled me closer to her, she kissed me longingly, then pecked my lips a few times before wiggling off my arms.
"Oh my God!" She squeaked, taking one of the many tests above the counter and looking at them, then placed both her hands on her cheeks.
She looked at me again with such an excitement and a shine in her eyes, her cheeks were flushed red and she had the biggest smile on her face.
She jumped on my arms again and pecked my lips chanting I love you in between them, her excitement and happiness radiated from everywhere in her body.
She moved again to be put down but even with her feet on the floor she didn't let go of me, her lips were still sealed to mine for a few more seconds.
She pulled back slowly and took a deep breath, with one shoulder move she exhaled and gave me another smile.
"Okay, I'm calmed down now" she couldn't help but to look at the test again, her hands moving to her stomach. "We're having a baby" she whispered, then let out another squeal with a little laugh "okay, okay, I'm done freaking out"
"You can freak out all you want love" I pulled her for another embrace and kissed her forehead.
She hugged herself to my chest and laid her face on my shoulder. We stood hugging each other for a full minute, until I head her sniffing. She hugged me tightly when I began rubbing her back. I could only hold her and be here for her until she calmed down. It took her a while, but she finally pulled back from the embrace, her eyes and cheeks red.
"This was too intense" she said cleaning her cheeks, then chuckled "I'm like-" she began, then shook her head and shrugged "I'm light headed, definitively want some ice cream, will more than likely keep crying because this is the happiest I've been in my whole life"
She was looking at herself in the mirror while she talked, cleaning the tears that hadn't stopped falling on her cheeks, I could only look at her because she was somehow more beautiful, she was having my baby.
"Oh baby" she said looking at me, she ran her hand on my cheek and raised herself on her tips to kiss my lips. I didn't realized I'd also shed a tears out of excitement.
Her phone rang on the bed behind us, and turned around to look for it, when she took it she gave me a little apologetic look and answered.
"Yes hello?" She widened her eyes and bolted out of the room "yes, oh my God I totally forgot"
I followed her to her office because I still had a lot of questions about how to proceed with this.
"I was checking some dates and I got distracted" it took a few seconds of her tapping on the computer desk until she spoke again. "There, sent, they'll be there first thing tomorrow, you just have to sign the receipt and they'll start working. Okay, thank you"
She hung up and stood from her chair.
"So" I said walking in the office "what's next?"
"What's next" she said walking to me and rounding my neck with her arms "we should celebrate because I'm hungry" she declared with a little smile "and then, tomorrow I'm going to call the doctor to get a blood sample, and maybe an ultrasound? I don't know we'll see. It depends of how far along I am"
"Great" she gave me a fast kiss and walked around me to the door.
"I mean" I turned to see her turn around before leaving the room "if you want to go out, I don't think I can stop moving, I'm so excited"
I motioned at the door and walked to short way to her, holding her by the waist as we exited her office.
"Celebrations are in order" she clapped her hands happily and slipped from my embrace to go to the bedroom, she picked up her purse and put some shoes on, grabbing a coat before joining me downstairs.
We went out, we ate, we had desert, she didn't stop smiling once. She would look at me, smile, and lean in to kiss my lips.
She'd told me that it was usual protocol to not say anything yet, but I felt like I wanted everyone to know already. I almost broke the rule and said it when we visited her sister the following week, giving that Madison was giving us the 'you should travel before you have kids' spiel. Mags and I looked at each other when she wasn't looking and intertwined her hand with mine.
I don't know what was going on with Reddington, Liz didn't say much other than Reddington was under attack, he was being stripped from his money, his influence, his alliances, his power. I was having a blast with it, nothing could give me a bigger sentiment of satisfaction that knowing he was finally getting what he deserved.
All of this was until we found out that his cleaner had given the authorities 86 of his victims, that got me worried.
It wasn't just the bodies, it was the person assigned to the investigation, a former member of the Reddington task force. He was relentless, a genius, and I was scared, because I knew he would connect the dots perfectly. I was scared because I knew what that meant, and I was even more scared because it wasn't just the taskforce who was affected, it was Maggie, it was our baby.
"You are not listening are you?" I heard her say from the kitchen, I was absentmindedly looking through the Reven Wright case files I'd brought home, those were the only thing distracting me from the Reddington mess.
"I'm just-" I threw the file over the table and rubbed my eyes "I'm worried about a lot of things"
"Mmm" she walked to the table and set down a cup of tea next to her laptop. We were done with dinner and she had to keep working past bedtime, I'd brought my stuff down to join her because I wasn't getting much sleep these days anyway. "something you're allowed to talk about?"
I wasn't really allowed to talk about anything, but this affected the both of us.
"A few days ago Reddington's cleaner gave the authorities 86 of his victims, like a late Christmas gift. The guy ahead of the investigation is an old co-worker, who's a living nightmare, he'll put us all in jail if he finds out about anything related to the taskforce or the deal with Reddington"
She just made a twist of lips and turned to her computer.
"And Raymond can't help with that?"
"Help how?" She shrugged.
"I don't know, he would come up with something, he's very creative"
"Mags" I called her attention, she tore her eyes away from the computer and placed leaned her head on the palm of her hand. "I could go to jail"
"Yeah, I know" she shrugged again "I know that's the outcome of a lot of scenarios, I've known that for a while. And I'm still here, I still married you"
I made a twist of lips and crossed my arms.
"I should've backed out of this when I had the chance" I lamented after a few minutes of being quiet, Mags had resumed her work on the computer.
"Mm, maybe" she stood up from the chair and walked to me, she lifted her leg and moved it over my lap, sitting on it and facing me. "Hey, listen" she placed her hands on my neck "we know that the situation you're in with Raymond will get you in a lot of trouble, if not now, then someday. And I accept it, you know" she shrugged with a little smile that I didn't know what it meant "it's a shit situation, and it has affected you in so many ways, you've changed a lot, everyone has changed. And I'm not saying this jail thing is good but, maybe now everyone else in the taskforce will realize that some things aren't worth risking your lives for"
She was right, all the secrets, the lies, maybe if I was alone I wouldn't mind putting myself at risk for my job, but now I had people that worried about me.
"Listen" she patted my shoulders and stood up from her seat "Raymond is none too pleased with someone who's trying to take away his personal taskforce" she sat back down in her chair and looked at the screen. "you just have to lay the situation to him and tell him he has to do something."
"We already did, but he's in no position to help"
"Well, help him get on position"

Maggie.
I couldn't even lift up my head from the pillow this morning, my body felt so heavy and as soon as I opened my eyes I closed them again because everything around me was spinning.
"Baby" I felt Don's hand on my back rubbing it up and down "are you okay?"
I could barely open my eyes, but when I did I saw him kneeling on the side of the bed.
"I feel terrible" I muttered, then frowned uncomfortable. "What time is it?" I closed my eyes again and tried to turn around on the bed.
"It's 7 am, you can sleep for another while" when I turned around the right side of my body hurt when it made contact with the mattress.
"Ouch" I complained "what happened last night?"
I heard him chuckle and walk around the bed towards the bedroom.
"We went out with your group of friends from work and you can't handle licor at all, I think you had just one shot of that tequila and were done for the night. You told me you stumbled and fell on the bathroom when you went with Gina. Here" I opened my eyes again to him and watched his extended hand. I took whatever he had on it and swallowed it, taking a sip of water when he handed me the glass.
"Out of all the days I would need you here, you had to be called in now" I complained when I saw him with his suit and tie and let my head fall heavily on the pillows.
"That's how it is love. But that would hopefully keep the pain away, just sleep for another hour and when you wake up you'll feel good" he leaned over the bed to kiss my lips "I love you" he saluted.
"Love you too" I said back and closed my eyes.
I don't know what was that thing that he gave me, but it was like magic, even so magical that I almost didn't feel my body, I woke up two hours later and I found that I had a huge black and blue in my waist, when I was at work I was told by Gina that I tripped, hit the sink of the bathroom with my side and then fell to the floor. Talk about embarrassment.
I was at the construction site overseeing the excavation when I got a phonecall from Don.
"Hi baby" I saluted.
"How are you sleeping beauty?" He replied.
"Better, I do have a bruise though"
"That sucks, but the pills did you good?"
"Yeah, they did, I don't know what those are but sign me in" I waited for his reply, but he remained silent "are those... You know, the pills you got hooked on?" I asked weary, when he didn't answered again I kept going "because if they are I get it, it's not difficult to get hooked on them, like I have a bruise and I don't feel anything at all, but you actually get shot"
"I don't get shot as much as you'd like to think"
"Well, you get beat up, ran over, bitten, and those are all worse that a little ouchy on my side... Is this getting too uncomfortable for you? I'm sorry, I ramble a lot" I lamented when I realized I was the only one talking, and we were talking about Don's past addiction.
"There are no uncomfortable conversations between us Mags, you've seen me in my highest and lowest"
"I know, but I act like you're done with that and no one is ever done with the things they did in the past and... Whatever, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to trigger you"
"This is not a trigger, I'm fine. I just called to let you know I was going to Georgia now for a case, I hope to be back by night"
"Okay, let me know. I actually-" I tried to change the subject "have a little something you can help me with"
"Oh yeah?" He asked in a little suggestive tone.
"Not that ki- well yes, that kind of something too, but it's another kind of something"
"I'll be happy to help in both those somethings" I chuckled as well as he. "I'll see you hopefully tonight"
"Okay, I love you" I said, he told me his goodbyes and hung up.
It was kind of uneventful, the next couple of weeks I'd just have to be here, the heavy work was happening at the firm, where teams were working on the designs of the rooms, the casinos, talks were had with every and all kinds of companies, construction, design, entertainment, engineering, Oscar was dealing with all the permits and the likes.
I was just a bit static until the digging was done, then the real job began.
Don did came home, but it was almost 1 when he arrived, I knew he tried to not make noise to not wake me up, but I'd been helping with the designs and the general blueprints until the wee hours of the night from home.
I walked down the stairs when he was entering the kitchen.
"Didn't know you were awake" he said waiting for me, I gave him a little smile while I fastened the stripes of my gown and leaned in to give him a kiss.
"Yeah, I was working until an hour ago, come, I'll heat you up some food" I motioned at the kitchen and the both of us walked in, he sat in the kitchen stool whilst I opened the fridge and took out something for him to eat, placing it in the microwave. "Long day uh? " I leaned in the counter and looked at him.
"Yeah, I've been up and down all day, trying to catch some poor girl"
"Mm" I hummed and turned around to the fridge, taking a water bottle for him and handing it. "Well, about that something I mentioned this morning"
"Ah yes, the something" he said after taking a swig, the microwave beeped and I placed the plate in front of him while he fished a fork and knife from the cabinet.
"The something is a secret mission, undercover"
"Mm" it was his time to humm "this isn't for Reddington right? Because I've been doing a lot of work for him that doesn't necessarily fits the conditions we'd agreed upon when we signed the deal with him"
"No" I answered wearily "is that what you were doing today? His dirty work?"
"Indirectly" he replied shortly.
"Well, no, this is for my work" I grabbed the stool and sat next to him while he ate, he placed his hand on my naked thigh as he did "whilst this whole digging thing is being done I'm working on some other angles, and I thought we could, you know, spy on the other hotel resorts to see what they have and see how we can improve our hotel" he gave me a little smirk "so, wanna come with me to a five start hotel for a night? Well many, I have to see at least 4. Those are like free vacations"
"I'd love a free vacation" I clapped and leaned in to kiss his cheek
"Awesome, so tomorrow, call me to let me know if you're going to make it to the night, I'll book the first hotel which I'm thinking either the Four Seasons, or the Hay-Adams."
"The Hay-Adams is nice, I see it all the time, is in front of the White House."
"So I'll book that one first, is a short walk away from your work"
Well, I didn't book the hotel the next day. My work day came to a screeching halt when I got a phone call from Don.
"Hey Maggie listen" he said as soon as I picked up the phone, which got me a little worried "my brother he's uh-" I heard his voice quiver a bit, and I feared for the worst. "He's been admitted into the hospital, my mom says she doesn't have a word yet from the doctor, they're running some tests on him"
"On which hospital?" I grabbed my pursed and a folder with papers and walked to the door.
"She'll call me when she had more news it's not so urgent yet"
"On which hospital" I repeated a little angry on the phone, because Don's family was my family now and I was going to drop everything I was doing to be at that hospital.
"He's in Georgetown"
"Okay, I'm on my way" I motioned at my assistant to come with me. Yes, I had to hire an assistant much to my distaste "I'll keep you posted okay?"
"Please, and thank you Mags. I love you"
Jen was a senior in college in architecture and she had to do a few internships in exchange for college credits. She was assigned as my assistant but I didn't give her many hard chores for her to do because... I liked to do things myself.
"Listen Jen" I said when we were both in the car "I wouldn't usually ask for any of this because I like to micromanage a lot" I admitted.
"Noticed" she replied.
"But-" I continued ignoring that comment "I have a family emergency and I need to get to the hospital and not leave, so, everything I have to do outside you'll have to take care of, sounds good?" I gave her a fast look, she gave me a thumbs up and I sighed in a little relief.
I'd met Don's mom in a dinner he'd set up for us, it had been the uneventful meeting your mother-in-law, but I soon realized that she was the sweetest person in the world,   she cared for both her sons, and I was at first a little worried she'd be a little overprotective of Don after the Audrey situation, specially because she'd canceled an engagement and I guessed she as a mother didn't wanted to see her son suffer again. I assured her the best I could that I would never hurt Don, that I accepted him just the way he was and that I loved him dearly. She took an instant liking to me after that, and Don's brother had also welcomed me into the family.
That being said, I hadn't seen her or talked to her since the wedding, Don wasn't the one to talk much with his family which was a little sad, because I would give anything to talk to either of my parents one more time.
Don's mom was sitting in the set of chairs outside of the room where I assumed his brother was in. When I saw her I walked to her and she lifted her eyes to me, standing up to receive me in an embrace.
"Maggie" she saluted, I hugged her tight and long "I'm so glad you're here, I just got off the phone with Donnie, he told me he'd try to make it" she pulled back a little and gave me a weak smile while she rubbed my arms. "You didn't have to come"
"What are you talking about?" I said with a little smile of my own "you guys are my family, of course I had to come"
I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and took it out. I gave her an apologetic look as I motioned at Jen to follow me a little further down the hall.
As soon as the digging ended I had to have everything ready for the vault and storage to begin being built, which meant I had a lot of phone calls to make and to be made to me, blueprint deliveries to different agencies, measurements to be taken and so forth, Jen was my errand girl for the day. For every phone call I got Jen stormed off the hospital with a handful of papers and prints, printed a lot of other things, talked and scheduled things. If she wanted a real test of what this job was about then she got it now.
I got a phonecall from Don well into the night, if I hadn't been told by Jen it was already 8 pm I would've kept her doing things, but I dismissed her.
"Hi love" I answered tiredly.
"Hey, any news?"
"Aside from what your mom told you about the surgery, no, he's scheduled to go tomorrow at first hour" he remained silent, poor thing, he's had an awful day "bypass surgery is very common love he's not at risk" I tried to comfort him.
"I'm on my way to Monaco"
"Ow, I've always wanted to go to Monaco and visit Les Jardín Saint-Martin, the Palais Du Prince. And the cathedral!" I gasped.
"I'll trade you"
I pressed my lips together and tsked my tongue.
"I'm sorry Don but you'll be here tomorrow"
"Tomorrow is late, I should be there now, not on my way to Monaco to run errands for Reddington" he said angry.
I'm sorry it's all I could say. There was no other way to mitigate his anger, he just told me to keep him posted and hung up. I looked at my phone background and sighed, then moved around in the chair and pressed my cheek to my palm, holding my head up and looking ahead.
I'd slept in uncomfortable hospital chairs for years, this situation wasn't any different, Don's mom had gone back to her place to rest much to my insistence, she needed to rest and to calm down her nerves.
As soon as the doctors told me Don's brother was out of danger, I gave Don a call.
"He's stable" I said as soon as he picked up. I heard him release a heavy sigh and I could feel him untense his shoulders "told you you had nothing to worry about, he's a strong man" I whispered at the phone, hoping to calm him down.
"Okay, I'll see you tonight" he hung up, he didn't tell me if he'll be coming or not, so after checking one last time that he was out of trouble and checking with Don's mom to see if she needed anything, I exited the hospital and got back to work, given that it was only halfway into my work day.
I saw Don again well into the night, I heard the front door open and waited for him to go up the stairs and meet me in the bedroom. I saw him walk in just as I was pulling the covers of the bed to slip into them.
"Hi" I said looking at him, he didn't look well at all, he looked worn down, had more than likely been crying, I hated to see him like this "did you go to the hospital?" I asked weary, I didn't know if he would want to talk to me about this now.
"Yeah, I did" he replied quietly, taking off his shirt and walking to the bathroom.
I didn't know what was going through his mind, I didn't if he wanted to talk about it, if he was upset, if he was sad, it took a lot for him to let his shield down and actually tell me when he was troubled.
He got into his pijama quietly, and I followed his movements getting into bed. When we were both laid down and with the lights off, I moved a little closed and placed my hand on his shoulder, I could see the outline of his other hand over his eyes.
"He could have not been fine. Something could've happened to him, he could've died, and where was I? I was flying half across the globe, for him. If it was for any other reason I would've been fine but..." he sighed heavily, I could sense a little quiver in his voice "this is not how's going to be when you're in the hospital, alright? For any reason, if you're injured, when you're about to give birth, okay? I'll be there"
"I know you will" I pressed the back of my hand tenderly on his cheek, stroking it up and down.
He turned around to embrace me, I hughed him tight, placing my hand on the back of his neck and stroking it soothingly, he fell asleep shortly after that.
The next morning I had to be up quite early, so I hopped into the shower as soon as I woke up, a few minutes into it I jumped a little when it opened, Don was standing with his workout pants and shirt.
"Do you have to be at work early?" He asked, I nodded him and watched him take off his shirt "mind if I join you?"
"Oh please" I said suggestively, he chuckled as he finished getting undressed and walked into the shower.
Don's arms circled my waist and pulled me to him, feeling his muscles flat against my back.
"Are you feeling better today?" His lips traveled from my temple to my neck, leaving soft kisses on it, he just hummed in affirmation.
His hands traveled down from my stomach to my tight, teasingly touching the inner side of it, I let out a little pleased hum and turned my head around to his face.
"If you're thinking of doing something Agent Ressler" I pushed my hips back to grind teasingly against him "then you better do it before the water cools down"

Ressler.
I spent maybe an hour looking at Mags walk back and forth in the room, getting everything ready and herself ready to leave our hotel bedroom.
I was already dressed into my usual suit and jacket attire, and she'd opted for a laid back graphic shirt with some jeans and boots, she still looked bomb though. Slowly and with a lot of precision she applied the red lipstick, bold colors looked amazing on her.
She pressed her lips together to seal the lipstick and dumped the thing on her make up bag.
"Okay I'm ready" she said, giving the room a quick look to check if we were missing something. I had both her dress and my suit in their respective dry-cleaning bags, the hotel had been very caring to us and had offered the dry-cleaning of our clothes no charge.
"I like that color on you" I mentioned, she smiled as we exited the room and held hands.
"You do? Guess what it's called."
"They have names?" I asked frowning "it's just red"
"It's called wifey" I frowned even more. "And yes, all the make up products have names, like for this brand I have Wifey and Safe Word"
That got a lengthy chuckle out of me, what were those people thinking with the names? Maggie followed with a short one. Once we were out of the elevator and said our quick goodbyes and thanks to the staff of the hotel, we climbed into my car and made our way back to D.C. I was going to drop Mags home and then head to the Post Office.
"My God" she said in a sigh "I loved getting married and the party and all but I don't know if I'll do it again" she admitted
"Me neither, specially knowing what you've been through, you're lucky your boss was so laid back about missing some work days to prepare the wedding."
"That's just because I'm making him rich" she assured with a little wink.
"You should ask him for a raise"
"I don't think he's going to end up being very fond of me" she chuckled "I mean... I want to be a mom" she said slowly, checking for my reaction "soon, hopefully, maybe" her voice elevated to a high pitch at the end, making me smile.
I extended my hand to grab hers who was laying on her thigh.
"Whenever love, I'll make you a baby right now"
"Oh, no no, I'm barely on the "married" mindset, I can't be in the "pregnant" mindset that quickly. Also, imagine if I showed up at work and were like "yeah, by the way I'm already pregnant a week after my wedding". I would be fired on the spot"
We'd arrived home at this point, I parked the car in the driveway and whilst Mags and I unloaded the car we kept talking a bit more.
"Well, you being pregnant doesn't mean you can't work"
"You're right, it doesn't. But it's the things in between that could make it more difficult."
"Well" I walked behind her as she opened the door and held it open for me "if he fires you then, it's whatever. I would prefer you not working either way"
She closed the door behind me and left her purse over the couch, the living room was full of our wedding gifts, boxes and bags occupied most of the sofa and one of the loveseats, also the coffee table and the little space between it and the TV rack.
"There's something called economical independence, and I quite like it"
I gave my watch a quick look and gave her a glance, turning to walk up the stairs and to my office to get my suitcase.
I grabbed it and walked downstairs.
"You don't mind if I..." She motioned at the mess of gifts in the living room "roam around them do you?"
"No baby, you'll show me afterwards" I leaned in to kiss her lips, then she walked me down to the door again.
"Wait" she said quickly and hurried upstairs, then in a second she flew back down it and held a little box in front of me
"Oh no, thanks, I'm already married" I said, she chuckled and opened it, retrieving a thin silver chain from it.
"It's... You know, for your wedding band, I don't want you to be taking it off then putting it on again, and God forbid if you lose it I'll straight up kill you" she said with a serious tone while putting it back on the box and handed it to me.
"It's not a requirement to hide an agents love life" I said placing it inside my inner pocket.
"I know, it's an option though" she said placing her hands on my chest and leaning her head back, I gave her another short kiss and walked down the path back to the car. "Don't widow me" she said behind me, I turned to her quickly to give her a smile and see her sweet one before she closed the door.
Maggie.
I felt so undescribably happy, everything about my wedding had been exactly what I'd hoped for, to the tiniest detail. It was going to take a lot to get me down from the cloud I was currently on, I felt like this was the happiest time period of my life. I had married the love of my life. I looked down at my hand, still being dumbfounded and slightly annoyed that Don had outdone himself by getting me this almost costume wedding band. But I loved him even more for it.
Giving a quick glance to the room, I knew I had to get some of these things out of the way, so I happily made my way to the kitchen which had collected a little dust because I hadn't been here in four days. I made myself some tea, turned the radio on my favorite station and sat down on the floor, picking up the closest thing to me and opening it.
I spent maybe three hours opening up the bigger ones, the ones that took most space on the living room. Most of them were the standard wedding presents, starter packs basically, appliances, decoration items like lamps, the most beautiful set of Egyptian cotton sateen bedsheets that felt like an actual cloud, I was going to love sleeping on these.
I was halfway done, whilst opening the presents I got the boxes and wrappers cleared and most of it thrown out, when the doorbell rang. I walked to the door to open it, frowning when I saw Raymond on the other side of it.
"Maggie my dear" he walked a short step to me and kissed me on the cheek while holding me by the shoulders "you looked absolutely ravaging on your wedding, and the herb spiced rack of lamb, delicious"
I gave her a little smile, letting Dembe in a closing the door behind them
"I wouldn't know, I couldn't pass a bite" I motioned at the kitchen.
"Christmas came early" he said, referring to the gifts.
"Almost Christmas in July" I said, walking him to the kitchen. I got the water boiling as he sat in the table, leaving his hat on it.
"What can I do for you, I mean, Don got called in today, but here you are, so it must not be that important or urgent"
"I forgot to give you your wedding present"
"Oh" I finished pouring the cup of tea and took it to him. "I clearly don't have enough of those" I sat next to him on the table, leaving the cup in front of him.
"When I heard about your father's illness, I got in contact with him after years, hoping that I didn't endanger him with my presence. I visited him in the McAlester Regional Health Center in Oklahoma. When I entered the room he was..." He staid silent for a second, twisting his lips "he barely had any resemblance with the men I once knew, it was almost as if he was... Disintegrating. He motioned at the side of the room, and there you laid, uncomfortably sleeping on a love seat on the corner of the room" he pointed, almost as he was reliving the situation again.
"My daughter, he said" He chuckled "she doesn't leave my side, ever since she was a kid she was always a short look away. He then lamented you were with him at that time, through his disease, the financial burden, the emotional baggage. He lamented the job's you'd turned down to be with him, the opportunities lost, the time of your life he couldn't give you back."
I huffed angry, swatting a year that had fallen down my cheek.
"That's so stupid for him to think. I wasn't thinking or worrying about any of that, I was working on getting him better" I excused.
"He lamented, most of anything, that he wouldn't be around to follow your life accomplishments like he'd done with your sister"
He slid his hands into his inner pocket and produced an envelope, placing it on the table.
"He said that you'd shut him down in any occasion he'd wanted to write his final words to you, I believe it was out of fear on your part, you never meant any harm to your father" he slid the envelope to me and tapped on it.
I led my eyes to it, frowning in confusion as I took it.
"You've had this? For how long?" I asked dumbfounded.
He just shrugged his shoulder and made a little twisting lips.
"Awfully too long. I lost track of you after you moved from Maryland, I assumed you went to Arizona or Colorado, and when I got ahold of you working with Agent Ressler, my belief of fate was restored, I knew it was a message from your father to not let you out of my sight until his final wish was full filled"
I slowly opened the envelope, then took the thin paper inside it, sliding it up. As soon as I saw my name written in the top right, I pushed it back down and placed the envelope back on the table, placing my closed fist on my mouth, I could feel the hot tears threatening pushing to come out. I gave him a look and shook my head.
"For the whole duration of my wedding I was trying not to think of him, trying not to think how much I would have loved to have him there, to dance with me to-" my voice and chin quivered, and a few tears streamed down furiously down my cheeks.
I pulled my legs on the chair and hid my face in them, Raymond's hand landed on my back.
"He was there, I'm sure he wouldn't have missed it for the world" I nodded, then dried my cheeks and looked at the envelope again.
I took a deep breath and looked at him, giving him a weak smile.
"Thank you Raymond" I stood up and so did he, embracing me. I held him tight "this is the best wedding present I've received yet"
He chuckled and pulled back.
"Yet?"
"Yes, yet. We don't know what's inside the other boxes" I joked.
He took his hat with his own little chuckle and placed it on his head.
"Send my regards to Donald"
"Will do" I walked him to the exit, then waved goodbye as he got into his car.
Back in the kitchen, I took the envelope and just held it. I didn't wanted to keep reading, I felt as if if I read it, it would go away. I would read his final words and he'd be gone forever, almost as if that would finally release the presence of him that I always felt around me.
I took the envelope upstairs and into my safe, were I kept important documents, money, and my newly acquired marriage certificate.
Nighttime rolled around, and I had cleared a lot of the living room, I just had some smaller boxes and bags on one of the loveseats, a stack of cards and more envelopes to open, and a few flower arrangements that someone who clearly didn't know I was allergic had gotten for me.
The front door unlocked and opened just as I was placing the pillows on the sofa.
"Hi love" I saluted. "How did you do? Oh, you got into I fight, I can see those from over here" I walked to Don just as he was closing the door with a little smirk.
"Might as well have fought a zombie, the bastard bit me" he said showing me his bandaged hand.
"Oh no" I lamented with a little laugh "what an asshole" I tiptoed to kiss his lips, then led him to the kitchen. "We got the most amazing things baby, you have no idea, I changed the bedsheets for ones that my uncle gifted us, easily a thousand dollar bedsheet."
Don was in the process of taking off his tie when I turned to him.
"That's a little too much" he mentioned.
"I agree, but after you'll sleep on it, God. Heaven, that's what that is." He smiled at me as I continued towards the fridge. I had a lot of meals prepped for cases like this, I usually had one or two plates to save the day, I took out of the freezer an aluminum wrapped dish that had zucchini and fish, I think I bought monkfish for this one. I just had to throw it in the over for 30 minutes and we'll be having some delicious dinner without the mess.
"Also, Raymond came" I said turning my back to the oven
"Oh joy" he said unenthusiastically, sitting in the kitchen table and touching the side of his head where he had a bruise. "what did he want?"
"He" I began, walking to him "wanted to give me his present" I was going to sit on a chair next to him, but he grabbed one of my thighs and pulled me to sit on his lap, his hand landed almost flat out on my ass, but I didn't complain one bit.
"Whatever it was, specially if it was money, you should give him back"
"It wasn't money" I pulled my arm to surround his neck, looking at the little cut he had over his brow. "It was a letter from my dad"
He lifted his eyebrows at me. "Really?"
"Yeah, really"
"And what did it say?" I shrugged "what do you mean you don't know?"
"I didn't open it"
"Why?" He frowned in confusion. I was going to begin to explain, but as soon as I started to formulate the sentence in my head, I realized how stupid it was, I shook my head and gave him a little embarrassed look.
"It's a very stupid reason now that I think about it" I felt his hand travel up my back and rub my ribs. "I fell like.. you know, if I read it it'll be like a send off, he doesn't really have to look out for me, or want to tell me the things he never could. Like I would read his peace and... I'd lose him somehow"
"But it also could be the complete opposite, it could be something saying that he's always going to be around you."
I smiled and look at him.
"You'll never know until you open it"
"Yeah" I said in a sigh "maybe later" I still felt very reluctant to open the letter, Don leaned in a pecked my lips once.
"Nobody's pressuring you. But maybe don't tell your sister until you do, or else she might do it for you"
"Oh, yeah" I nodded and stood up from his lap "my sister would be my nightmare fuel if I ever told her." Don had followed me to the kitchen and was taking out the plates and silverware for us to eat.
I placed dinner on the table and my phone began ringing all the way down the living room, I quickly jogged to it to find a stream of messages from Gina. While reading some of them I made my way back and sat down next to Don, who has already helped himself and was watching the TV.
"Who is that?" He asked. I locked the phone and left it on the table. Getting ready to eat as well.
"Gina, she said she has some exciting news and she'd call me tomorrow to see if we could start working on a thing."
"A thing" he repeated.
"Yeah, a thing" I waved my hand dismissively.
And what a thing.

Ressler.
The days before our wedding, the 7 days prior, were the days when Maggie was a mess of emotions. She was happy most of the time, but also stressed, worried, she'd taken time off from the job the week prior to our wedding day but if anything, that made it worse. Instead of taking care of herself and working herself up to our day, she took calls and spoke on the phone for hours with her people and her clients, fixing problems, answering questions. I was proud of her, she was half running a company and a whole department in her firm, but... Well, I felt lonely, which is totally selfish because I tend to leave her alone a lot.
The last week prior to our wedding I'd become so dependent of her, and I knew why. Tomorrow night I would have to leave to my bachelor party in Las Vegas with Ethan, some of his friends, some of mine. I still really didn't wanted to go. Mags kept telling me I would enjoy it, but with every passing day I convinced myself I really wasn't going to.
I'd been let off the hook early today, and when I walked into the house I immediately went upstairs to get off the suit, get some comfortable clothes on and sit in the couch with Mags, if I was allowed.
I hadn't paid much attention to Mags body these days, and in one hand, I was glad I didn't because now I could really appreciate how much she'd changed physically in result of all the workout and the diet she'd been on.
She was fresh out of the shower with just a thong that did everything to frame her ass so deliciously, she was with her back to me and I was about to get it on when I heard her talking...on the phone.
She placed her bra on her breasts but couldn't latch it on her back since she was talking, but was hanging the cups to her chest while the straps fell lazily down her arms, her hair was messy and wet and staining her back with little droplets.
This sight was everything to me, this woman was going to be my wife, and I wasn't really focusing on the fact that she was disarmingly beautiful, it was the fact that she filled her own skin and her personality flowed with her body, and that made her all the more sexy.
She finally turned to meet my eyes while I took off my jacket and tugged on my tie to loosen it. She gave me a quick flip of her hand to help her with the bra.
I walked to her and she gave me her back, I took both the ends with the latches and pulled, making the straps hug her shoulders.
I leaned to her other ear, the one without the phone and whispered.
"I latch these off, not on"
I placed a kiss on the spot on her neck where I knew she would quiver, and luckily that spot hadn't changed. I hooked the latches together and my hands moved to her sides while she turned her head to me, giving me a little look and a frown, as in asking what was wrong with me.
I muttered at her to hang up the phone, my hands slipping to her sides and pulling her back to me, she shook her head no and muttered back at me the familiar line of 'it's from work'
She was about to turn back to the wardrobe to get some other clothes on, but I couldn't stop my hands from traveling from her sides to her ass, giving her a squeeze that made her jump on her spot. She turned back to me with a confused smile as she tried to get away from me, but I cornered her in the little space between the nightstand and the bathroom door.
"Hang that up right now" I said serious as I placed my hands on her waist again and pulled her chest to flat out against mine.
"I can't hang up it's important" she whispered turning the phone away for a second to speak to me.
I leaned in, enjoying how her eyes fluttered closed, waiting for me to kiss her on the lips, instead I lead my mouth to her jaw, stealing a little gasp from her as I led my hands down her sides again, pulling her legs up to my waist.
I heard a hollow thud behind me and I smirked back at her, seeing her mouth perk down scoldingly.
"You made me drop my phone"
"Oh what a shame" I replied while I leaned in, but she pulled back. "If you really want to keep talking on the phone instead of spending one last day with me before I go and before we get married I'll put you down" I said now a little serious, because she probably hadn't noticed, but we weren't going to see eachother again until we were at our actual wedding.
Mag's stare softened, and she gave me a sorry look while she pouted
"They can handle themselves without you" I said while leading her to out bed and leaning in to kiss her, this time she held herself to the neck of my shirt and pulled herself and myself into the kiss, her hand moving to the back of my head and pushing me into her embrace, I slowly laid her on the bed and I positioned myself in between her legs, tilting myself to the side she helped me unbutton my shirt and take it off.
The feel of her soft and hot skin against mine was my favorite thing in the world, and the following too familiar sensations of her body on top of mine, our connection, the both of us together embracing ourself while we brought eachother to limitless pleasure, that was something I wanted to keep experiencing only with her.
I only wanted half of her body on top of mine the way it was now, and her hands slowly touching the skin on my chest.
All the while Mags and I made love, the phone on the floor hadn't stopped vibrating on top of the tiles, and when it sparked up again I sighed, feeling her smile on top of my chest while I held her close, my hand resting on her waist.
"Is it really that important?" I complained, though Mags didn't make a move to stand up and take the call.
"It's not only from work. I mean I do have two important projects, one of them being a bank vault restoration, but the other calls are probably from Ramona or my sister or my aunts."
I felt her nails raking down my chest, making waves with them as she looked up at me with a playful smile.
"What happened to you all the sudden?"
"What do you mean all the sudden? You're the one parading around the house with a thong, can you blame me?"
She gave me a little amused look as she leaned on her elbow to look up at me properly.
"I was about to get dress, I'd just taken a shower" she excused herself. I gave her a little twist of lips as I muttered a yeah right. She chuckled in disbelief and I pulled her to my chest again. "Believe what you want, that's why I was naked, and besides, this is my house, I can be naked whenever and wherever I want Donald Ressler" she said in a little scolding tone as she poked my chest.
I'd fallen silent, because I suddenly began thinking that I had to start packing for tomorrow to go to Vegas, and how I definitely didn't wanted to go. I thought that the whole prospect of leaving your soon to be wife to go to a club to have semi naked women dance on you to be totally ridiculous and unnecessary, and it defeated the purpose of marriage and what it meant. Loyalty, that's what marriage meant to me.
The front door erupted in loud bangs, along with the rhythmical ring of the doorbell.
"Did you park on the driveway?" Mag asked quietly.
"No, in the garage" I replied.
"Good, we're not here then"
Mags hugged herself closer to me as her phone vibrated again.
"Are you thinking about Vegas?" she muttered over my chest, I moved my finger up and down her side mindlessly.
"I'm thinking that... Next time I see you, it'll be on our wedding, when I'm-" I made a gesture with my hand "waiting for you at the altar"
I flattened my hand on her side and rubbed her back, feeling her smile on my chest, I knew Maggie loved the visual as much as I did.
The house phone rang this time, and Mags sighed tiredly.
"Hi! You've reached Maggie and Donald, we're not here at the moment so please leave a message!" I heard Mags enthusiastic voice coming from downstairs.
"I didn't know if you would mind that I put your name in the answering machine"
"Why would I mind?" I looked down at her, she shrugged and looked up at the ceiling again.
"Because you're so secretive"
"Margaret where the hell are you?" We were interrupted by Madison's voice in the phone "I'm outside your house, and we need to talk about tomorrow alright? I need to know how we're going to do the whole spa day thing, Ethan is leaving also with Don and... Just call me" she sounded exasperated.
"I'm not secretive" I said returning to our conversation.
"You're FBI. You are secretive, you don't want anyone to know anything about you that they can use against you, like a couple, or someone you care about. I've seen the movies alright? You're gonna slip off that wedding band every time you go in the field"
"I'm cautious" I excused myself "what spa thing?" I asked referring to Madison's message on the voice mail.
"I'm going on a spa day tomorrow, you know, to relieve the day before the wedding, it's the theme of my bachelorette party" she explained.
"Well, in that case you should answer your sister"
"My sister" she said leaning up again on her elbow "is freaking out because her very married husband is going to Vegas to have strippers dance all over him, and she's scared of that scenario"
"Why don't I have that problem?" I said half complaining. "Why do I want to buy the milk when I have the cow?. And no I'm not saying you're a cow" I hurried to say when she gave me a look of disbelief "I'm saying I really don't want to do the bachelor thing."
"It's not all strippers, you can slip off to the casino, maybe you'll win something and make us rich"
She laid her head back on my shoulder, and I smirked teasingly
"I'll make me rich, we're not married yet"
Mags lifted up her head again to me with a serious face.
"If I win at the casino we'll have to get a prenup" I followed.
She opened her mouth in disbelief and then smiled, hitting my chest when she figured I was joking.
"What an asshole, you would do that"
"I wouldn't even come back here, I would leave to start a new life"
"Yeah right" she mocked while laughing and leaning closer to me. I chuckled against her lips and pulled her closer. I loved this feeling, the playful teasing, the kisses.
Maggie gave me a quick kiss on the lips as she sighed, then downed her cheek to my shoulder again, resting on top of me.
I held her close to me and closed my eyes, decided to get some shut eye before dinner, enjoying the warmth of my girl's body next to mine.
The house phone rang again and the answering machine did its thing, I listened to the beginning of the message with my eyes closed.
"Hello Maggie, this is Nate-"
As soon as the overly enthusiastic male voice came from the speakers, Mags turned around on the bed and stumbled over her numerous things on her nightstand to pick up the phone line she had upstairs.
I looked at her confused as she took the call, I heard her talking to this Nate guy, only replying with yes and aha's, but at the end she said
"You can drop it by my office or my house in the following days, but the house will be vacant until next week.... Yeah on the 27th" she kept talking after a short pause.
She said her goodbyes and hung up, turning on the bed again and resting her head on my shoulder one more time.
"So-"
"Don't you dare" she warned.
"Who's this Nate guy?" I ignored. I didn't really care who he was, the fact that he was a man meant nothing to me, he wasn't competition. "And why would you talk to him and not your sister hmm?"
She sat on the bed and looked under the pillow to take out her night gown.
"Is he your lover?" I teased while running my hand up her back, she slipped her gown on her body before climbing over me and placing a feet on the floor next to the bed.
"He's my travel agent" she replied pecking my lips and standing up.
She walked into the bathroom and closed the door.
I took that time to also get some clothes on, since it was nearing down dinner time and as much as I didn't wanted to, we had to get out of bed.
She opened the door again and shook her hands dry.
"What do you want for dinner?"
"Pizza" I stood up and took a shirt from my drawer, picking Mag's phone from the ground as I walked
"I can't eat pizza" she complained, I handed her the phone and held her by the waist when I got my shirt, leading her downstairs.
"A slice of pizza is not going to kill you" I argued.
"I had my last dress fitting today, and it looks fine the way that I am now" she motioned at herself, I gave her body one lustful look while we walked to the kitchen, though she didn't notice. "Everything has to stay like this, toned and flat and fit" she motioned at her body with a hand while the other one lighted up the screen on her phone. "Oh shit" she muttered while looking at her notifications.
"If you start stressing up again, I'm taking the phone away" I warned walking around the kitchen island toward the phone, I gave a quick glance to the flyer on the fridge to remind myself of the number and dialed.
I felt Mag's hands moving up my chest as she held me from behind, placing her cheek on my shoulder.
"Some Chinese then?" I asked over my shoulder, she nodded over it and moved to the fridge to get some water.
We ate, then went to bed in silence, it wasn't an uncomfortable silence, it was just that we had nothing to say to eachother.
The next morning, while I made a little bag with a change of clothes and got all my personal effects checked, she brought up a cup of coffee.
I turned and saw the exact moment in wich her sad look turned into a dismissing smile, handing me the cup.
I had to take trips for work too often, but I never came back home to pack a bag for them, so I knew this visual was saddening her.
I took the cup and held her by the neck, slowly bringing her closer to me and pecking her lips.
"I know you're going to miss me, but we're 3 days away"
"I know" she said with a little smile and sat in the bed next to my bag. "It's just that, I feel like everyone is so hectic and they make me hectic, and I need you to level me down"
I smiled as I sat next to her, patting her thigh while I took a sip of my coffee.
"You'll be alright" I assured "just don't listen to people"
"Well, that's simple" she said with sarcasm.
I held her close, chuckling at her while she pulled her arms up my shoulders and held me, I leaned in to kiss the crook of her neck, the sweetness of her perfume hitting me.
Outside, we heard Ethan punch the horn of his car to let me know he was outside.
I stood up with Mags still in my arms and grabbed my bag.
While we walked downstairs, her body still close to mine, she grunted in complain.
"God I hate this" she said between teeth, opening the front door for me and holding me by the shoulders. I pulled her close, making her tiptoe to meet my lips. "Have fun, okay?"
She placed her hands on my neck and cheek, her thumb slowly touching my cheek.
"I'll try" I said, she smiled her beautiful smile and leaned in, kissing my lips in short and quick successions "I'll see you on the altar" I pulled away slowly, she just knitted her eyebrows together and pulled me again again for some more quick kisses.
"See you on the altar"

Maggie.
I let a box fall on top of another as I sighed, looking at my sister across the room and placing my hand on my hip.
"That's all of them" I said, checking my watch. My sister moving in the middle of my wedding planning wasn't ideal, but at least now I had her to help me from here, even though we weren't really that behind on anything.
My aunt Martha gave Donald the money for my wedding cake, even though I asked her not to do it. Earlier in the week I picked the cake, just a simple one with three floors, still, the cake tasting was today and I needed to pick up the samples, Don had already told me he couldn't make it, so I had to pick them up and take them home for tasting tonight.
I had pushed the dress fitting until today because I didn't wanted to get stuffed with cake before having the fit, but Ramona had warned me, I had to have the dress picked by the end of the week, and I was already half way into it.
Once my sister confirmed that was all, she ushered me to the car and to the BHNLD in Maryland. It took us a while to get there and in the venue I was already pissed off.
I really wasn't picky about anything else except the dress, that was something that got me in a bad mood.
Fortunately, we hadn't been to this venue before and they had dresses from the last season, giving that we were closing in on the next spring-summer releases. I was browsing with my sister while we were being served some champagne. With us were my Aunt Martha, who was like my mother, Sara and Gina, so I felt like I had a good aray of people who had met me in different times of my life.
I had given the helper just one condition, backless. At this point I didn't care if it ended up being a skin tight mermaid style dress, I'd beaten around the bush long enough.
While turning yet another dress, I gasped loudly and my sister came rushing from the other side of the store to me.
"What? Oh Jesus" she said, I took the dress out of the hanger and looked up at it.
"I need to try this one on" I said to the vendor, she gave me a smile and walked me back to the dressing room.
"You might be in luck, this one was going to be taken out of sale next week. "
I replied with a smile and took out my pants and shirt while she helped me into the dress, it was a backless like a wanted, looking at it, it was a seath style dress, and from the waist down it just fell perfectly, the length was ideal too.
She zipped me up and helped me get outside while walking to the step in front of the three mirrors.
My sister just looked at me with a straight face but I could see she was trying to hold back tears, Gina had her hand on her chest and so did Sara. This one might be it.
I brought the shoes I was going to wear to try on with the dress and when I was finally standing in the step and making the dress open up in front of me, I looked up, I looked at myself. I looked at how the dress fell from my waist down, and when the girl tightened it around my figure, I fit perfectly. This dress was fucking beautiful, and I looked beautiful in it.
I'd fallen speechless, I was just looking at it with wide eyes, when I turned around a bit and saw the dress open up and leave my back open down until my lower back, my mouth fell agape, I just couldn't believe how good this dress was.
When the dress was tight on my body, the girl moved to expand the dress to it's full length around me, it was big, but surprisingly light, and it had a considerable long train, not too long or too short. Fuck me I loved this dress.
"Mags you look beautiful" I heard my sister say with a little voice. I smiled and looked at her through the mirror, she was crying.
"Maddie don't cry" I said, feeling my eyes fill up with tears. I looked at myself again. I pulled my hair up in the simple hairstyle I was going to have for my wedding and looked again at how I would look for the big day.
"Do you like that one?" My sister asked again, I saw her clean her cheeks from the mirror in front of me.
I grabbed the dress to my sides and moved it around, I felt like a five year old twirling her dress around, seeing how it moved.
"Yes, I love this one" I said looking up at her. I felt nervous, I had a knot in my stomach. "I'm getting married in this dress"
My sister clapped happy and stood up, walking up to me as I walked down the steps carefully, then she hugged me, I heard her sniff away her tears as she held me.
"Do you think Don will like it?" I said, Madison looked at me with a smile.
"He better, you look amazing in it, and you aren't even dolled up, when we get you the make up and the jewelry, the nails, the hair, you'll be a dream come true"
I paid for the dress and the vendors had warned me about not pulling anymore weight, since the dress fitted perfectly with my figure the way it was now.
While walking out, my sister told me she would keep the dress in her place, avoiding Don seeing it before the wedding, and on the way back to the house I picked up the samples and a suit I'd gotten Don just because. He had been given me so many gifts and surprises lately I had to give something back.
I opened the door of my house with a big smile, the image of my dress on me still on my mind.
"Donnie?" I called, hopping he would be here
"Kitchen" I heard him reply. I took of my heels in the entrance and walked in, leaving the platter and the suit on the table.
He turned to greet me but instead I jumped to his arms, downing my lips to his while I held him by the neck.
"I got it" I said over his lips, he walked me to the kitchen table and sat me on top of it.
"You got what?" He said touching my waist while giving me a short kiss.
"I got my dress." I kissed him again "and I don't owe you a thousand goddamn dollars alright?"
He chuckled against my lips and pulled me in closer.
"I'll believe it when I see it" he leaned me back on the table again and kept his lips on mine.
I complained and pulled back, moving to the side and away from his grip.
"Nope, we can't do this now, we need to eat all of this cake" I opened the paper that wrapped the tray "and we need to pick, so, get a few spoons and let's get to it"
He walked back to the kitchen and got a few spoons for us along with water. While we tasted the first little piece I made conversation.
"So what did you do today Agent Ressler?"
He shrugged and gave me a twist of lips
"Nothing, went around talking to people, caught a guy who stole identities and killed researchers." He spooned the next piece "I don't like that one" he said
"It's got" I took the card and read it "it's got cream and strawberries with walnuts."
"I hate walnuts" he said, I smiled and spooned the next one with him.
"And how are you on getting Agnes back?"
"Mm" he hummed "Liz is working another angle with Reddington, they flew to Ginebra hoping to get the drop on him but Kirk seems to be two steps ahead" he lamented. "I never thought it would take us so long to get him, it's been a month, more than a month"
"The lemon one, it's to die for" I was already halfway into the pieces while Don talked. "He's a slippery one, but you guys will get him. Working on different angles help to cover all bases"
His phone rang, and he looked down at it with a frown.
"Ressler" he said while picking up. His eyes moved around and then he leaned back in the chair "right, Aram's friend" he looked at me with a little complicit smile. I leaned to him and he leaned to me to let me hear the conversation.
"I was wondering if you knew what kind of take out restaurants Aram usually orders from. I want to surprise him with dinner tonight"
He gave me a look, and I quickly mouthed.
"Paco's Taco's?" He asked trying to make out what I said. He listened a bit more and then nodded and pointed at me "yeah, ginger beer, he loves that" I nodded and gave him a thumbs up "I'm glad I could help" he said, then hung up.
"That's kind of cheating though, like I didn't have anyone to bother when I was trying to get with you" I jokingly complained, leading another piece of cake to my mouth.
"It didn't take much" he said looking at me, he chuckled and leaned his hand to me "you've got cream all over your face" he ran his thumb on my lower lip, and before he could pull back I held his hand and licked the cream off his thumb.
I saw his pupils turn as he looked at me, I gave him a little smirk and took my spoon back.
"I'm taking you to bed right now" he said, I chuckled and motioned at the pieces of cake.
"Let's pick three, then we head up."
"You pick two then, I'm not a big fan of cake anyway"
"I want the double chocolate one and the tiramisu, and you want-" I lingered, waiting for him to finish.
"Lime and coconut" he said, then leaned to me and held me by the legs, pulling me up from the chair
"Ew" I complained while leaning to his lips
"Ew what?"
"I don't like coconut"
"It's my side of the cake, don't eat it" he said, leading his lips to mine again and walking us to the couch.
Ressler.
I hadn't gotten word that I needed to go to the Post office today, and given by yesterdays mess with Le Bron, I intended to spend the day in, helping Mags and her sister unpack everything in their new home.
We had everything on schedule, wedding wise. Ramona just needed to set up the finishing touches and we just had to wait for the day.
At 6:30 the doorbell rang, and when I opened it I was greeted with a delivery guy.
"Nick's Pizza" he said, handing me a box. I frowned and took it, looking down at it while I walked to the kitchen.
Mags skipped the stairs and walked to the kitchen with me while I opened the box and found an envelope stuck to the lid.
"It's 6:45 am and you ordered a pizza?" She asked.
"I didn't order anything" I said motioning at the envelope as I opened it "it's from Reddington"
"Oh" she lamented "I was hoping since you had your day off you could help me with the-" she stopped to gasp loudly, looking at the envelope. "oh, my, god, I need this" she declared.
"What?"
"That wax seal. I need to get one I wanna feel like the pope"
I chuckled, looking down at her and pulling her from the waist to kiss her temple
"Like the pope" I repeated while laughing. "Okay baby you get one today and when I come back tonight we'll set them up for tomorrow alright?"
"On it" she said taking out her phone and quickly opening her browser. I looked at her with dreamy eyes, I loved how spontaneous she was. "what?" She asked still looking at the phone, knowing that I was looking at her "does that make me sound ridiculous? Wait until you hear how much time I spent on the calligraphy for the envelopes"
I chuckled and quickly jogged upstairs to get a jacket, seeing that it was almost time.
"One Express delivery for a costume wax seal with the initials M and D. Should be here" she quickly looked at her phone while I opened the front door for her "in 8 hours. Perfect" she said giving me one fast kiss on the lips. "Have fun today, hope you get closer to her Agnes back, so you can rest" she silently stroked my chest while still close to me.
"Me too, I'll see you tonight"
It was a slow day, and finding out that Aram's girlfriend was a spy, that she'd backed into our system, that wasn't nice for Aram. After we got out confirmation on Kirk, Reddington told us to stand down from this, and there was nothing else for us to do.
I got back home and from the front door I could see Mags sitting on the kitchen table, going through the invitations, looking at them. She turned her head to me as I walked
"Hey" she saluted "any luck?"
"Apparently so, Liz is going to get in touch with us tomorrow, she has a meeting with Kirk tonight"
"Mm" she hummed
"And by the way" I said taking out my jacket and sitting next to her. "you'll have to delete Aram's plus one, his girlfriend is a spy"
"Yeah well, she might not be the only one" she said with a little smirk.
I looked at her while she gave me a mischievous look and continued folding the invitations.
"You have a tell, and you suck at lies"
"A tell? What tell?"
"You hide your hands when you lie"
She looked down at her hands and frowned.
"I do?" I nodded and took a handful of envelopes, taking the folded invitations and placing one in each. "Is it annoying when you find out I'm lying?"
"A little. But I know you don't do it because you like lying to me. You do it to not bother me" Maggie gave me a twist of lips and opened a little package, pulling out the wax seal and the wax sticks.
"I'm sorry" she said.
"Don't be" she stood up and looked in the kitchen for a lighter.
I handed her one of the invitations in the envelope, she wrote on of her sister's name in a very elaborate font, then she turned it around and burned a little bit of wax on it, pressing the seal before it cooled down.
She took it out and placed a hand on her chest, leaning back on the chair in exaggeration.
"I love it" she said looking down at the seal "I feel like the king in the north"
I chuckled, and we spent a good two hours doing the invitations.
"It's almost time" she said while we were nearing down on the last 10 "are you ready to get married Agent Ressler?"
"I am" I said giving her a quick look and a smile "are you nervous?"
"I'm..." I saw her scratch her head as she leaned forward on the table, stoping for a minute "I'm a little scared"
"Scared of what?" I held her hand and looked at her with a frown, she gave me a little twist of lips.
"I don't know" she avoided my gaze while she held her face with her closed fist "it's just that... Sometimes I think about what you do and... It's scary" she shrugged and finally looked at me "the uncertainty"
I moved to cup her cheek and brought her closer, she took her hand off her cheek and placed it on top of mine.
"Mags, we both know this isn't going to be easy. But there are people who work on what I work on and have a normal life, with a normal family. I'm going to try my hardest to avoid you getting caught up with my work, you and our future family. You don't have to worry about it"
"Those people don't work with Raymond" she said, it was my time to give her a twist of lips, because she was right about that one.
"But" she said leaning in to me with a smile "I knew I was signing up for a challenge" she kissed my lips shortly and I half smiled against them.
I loved this woman, I really did. And I'm going to do anything in my power to never, ever lose her.

Maggie.
Heavily, I threw my legs over the edge of the bed and sighed. I love everything about autumn and the winter, but I hated to leave the comfort and warmth of my bed to get up and be a responsible adult.
After I turned the alarm and left the phone on the bedside table, I stretched my arms above my head, then turned to look at a message I'd just received.
I also hated when people began bothering me when I first woke up, I needed maybe twenty minutes and a hot shower before I could be of any service. This time it wasn't a message from anyone asking me to do anything, it was Don.
"Good morning love. I'm out helping DCPD today, I will call you by lunchtime to let you know if it'll take me more time than I expect. I love you"
I hurried to text Carol, letting her know that we would be needing her today. Some days Don would tell her not to come and he would take care of Alma. He was really good with her, more than what I'd ever expected, and it was a good thing that he spent so much time with her, because I would come back home and want to be with her and he didn't have a say in how much I hogged her.
I went about my day, everything was normal, I reviewed my projects, made calls. I was about to go to the house of one of my clients when I realized that Don hadn't called me all day, and it was well past lunch.
I didn't usually worry about that, I let him do his thing and wasn't controlling, he didn't need to be controlled. The thing was: when he told me he would call me, he always did, and if he couldn't call, he would send a quick text with something along the lines of "its been busy today, I'll call you when I have time". Everytime he was busy it was the same text, as if he had it already written like an automated thing, he could press a button and leave me informed that he was at least fine.
When he didn't at the end of the day, I became worried.
I was gathering my things, rummaging in my thoughts, wondering if I should call him, when I got the call.
"Miss Ressler?" a voice came through the phone.
You never get used to those calls, the ones from the hospital, the ones who give the bad news.
"Your husband had been admitted to the ER. He was in a car accident. Just now he's been taken out of intensive care"
"I'll be right there" I said with a little voice "have they given him any medication?"
"I'm not informed of that at the moment" she excused herself.
"Well, inform anyone who is allowed to give him the medication that they do not have the permission to give him anything until I'm in the hospital"
I ended the call and took my purse. I hated the hospital calls, I hated having to talk to doctors about the patients, the patients were just cases to them, at the time it was my dad the one I had to fight for, and knowing that I would have to fight for Don a lot, already mentally exhausted me.
I arrived at the hospital, made the quick decision to not call Carol just yet, I was just going to check on Don's condition and if I had to stay through the night, I would ask my sister to take care of Alma.
As soon as I entered the hospital and was told the room where Donald was at, I headed there fully knowing that I was in for a fight with whoever I needed to fight with, because I knew that as soon as he was out of danger he was going to be prescribed pain relief medication.
When Don detoxed years ago, we did it all under wraps, no one knew about it. No one still knows about it, I silently hoped I'd gotten here soon enough to tell the doctors that he wouldn't be taking any medication. If they'd already given him something, I knew he would be strong enough to shake it, but him relapsing was something none of us wanted.
I reached the hall were his room was, seeing a doctor exit one of the rooms, the hall was crowded, and luckily he was walking towards me, we met halfway.
"Excuse me" I said, he stopped and looked up from his chart "are you attending Donald Ressler, I'm his wife"
"Ah yes, miss Ressler" he flipped through his notes until he found what he was looking for "your husband was in a car accident whilst he was in a car chase along with another members of the police department. The car collision was on the other side of where he was seated so... He only suffered a concussion, his right shoulder is dislocated and two or three ribs were compromised, along with a few cuts and bruises on his head." He finished
"That doesn't sound so bad, is he awake?"
"He's not at this time unfortunately. Also I have been told that he cannot receive any painkiller medication is that correct?"
"That's correct" I nodded, he gave me a little twist of lips.
"It may not sound like it's life threatening, but he's going to be in a lot of pain."
"He can make the decision if he wants the painkillers or not when he wakes up."
The doctor gave me a nod and closed his chart again.
"Can I see him?" I asked when he started to walk again, he motioned at the door behind him and I gave him a thankful smile.
Thankfully Don had never been in a hospital in the time we'd been together, because if I had to walk into a room and seeing him injured often, I don't know how I would do it.
Seeing him in the bed, just laying there, head bandaged, arm in a sling... It sucked, having to be strong sucked sometimes.
I left my coat in the back of the chair and sat down next to him. I tried hard not to look at him, but at the same time I wanted to make sure that it wasn't in fact something so bad.
After too much time painfully looking at his sleeping face, hoping he would wake up and tell me everything was going to be okay and it was just a scratch, I took my cellphone and sent a quick text to my sister. I let her know about the accident and that I was at the hospital, she told me she could take care of Alma for the night if I needed it.
The truth was; Don would never forgive me if I chose to spend the night with him instead of our still very dependent little girl, so I just texted my sister that I would pick her up in two hours.
After getting the child sorted, I texted my boss Oscar, letting him know of the situation. He expressed his worries and told me to take time if I needed to.
I was not in the mood to work but I had a lot of projects to finish and most of them had a due date.
Don didn't wake up in those two hours I was with him. With much reluctance I slipped my coat on and got ready to leave. I leaned in to give him a little kiss on the cheek and walked out.
Ressler.
It was supposed to be a simple car chase, and I was positive we wouldn't have gotten into the car accident if I had been the one driving, I already felt like we had been faked out in the operation, and when I told the driver that we'd been faked out and that he needed to drop the pursuit, a voice in a walkie contradicted me, and since I was in the matter of a consultant, I didn't have the authority to do anything.
When I woke up it was one am in the morning thankfully, because I could already feel a searing pain in my eyes when the light of the hallway hit me directly, mostly when someone came to check up on me.
I asked one of the nurses about my state, they told me about my injuries, hopefully I was going to be out if here by the end of the week, the problem were the ribs currently, the restraint on my arm wouldn't need to be on for more than today.
When I was left alone again, my mind quickly changed from thinking about me and the pain I was feeling, to thinking about Maggie and everything that it entailed having me in the hospital.
Her not being here already meant that she'd made the hard decision of leaving me alone and going home to take care of Alma. To me it was the obvious thing to do, but I put myself in her place for one second and it suddenly wasn't so obvious.
When the sun began rising and the room began to fill up with light I took the pillow from beneath me and covered my face with it. No one walked in for maybe two hours and I didn't find enough strength to stand up to shut the blinds and keeping the light out, and when I heard the door open I quickly spoke with a raspy voice.
"Thank God, can you shut the blinds please"
The sun was casting down on my body at this point, and when I heard the blinds being shut I stopped feeling the heat in my legs.
"The doctor said that 85% of your wounds could've been prevented if you'd put your seatbelt on"
I think I hurt myself even more when I quickly tore the pillow from my head, reacting to Maggie's voice, I winced and tried to sit straight on the bed.
"Put your fucking seatbelt on next time, or I'll strangle you with your daughter's hands" she said half threateningly, half joking, I could see her little smile.
"I'm in some pain now, I could use you showering me with love instead of scolding me" I said taking the pillow and placing it on my back again, she sat down in the little space next to me
"This is me showering you with love, put the fucking thing on next time. You don't get to die on me" she lowered her voice at the last sentence.
"I'm not going to die on you" I found her hand and held it tight "this is just a scratch"
I saw her eyes running on my face, then gave me a little smile.
"I don't think you would be saying that if you could look at yourself, you're all kinds of fucked up"
"I feel all kinds of fucked up" she gave me a little smile and rubbed my hand with hers "your should go home, be with Alma"
"If I'm not here I'm at work, it's all the same for her"
"I get it, but I prefer you be with her instead of hearing me complain in this hospital bed"
"And I prefer being with you to make sure people are treating you the best they can, they told me you'll have an x-ray in s few hours and if you're okay with the ribs your can go home tomorrow"
"My ribs aren't even broken and the dislocated arm is nothing Mags, I'll be fine if you want to leave"
"Well, I don't want to leave" she said defiantly, the moved to sit on the chair next to me.
It was no use fighting with Maggie about the aspect of company in hard times, she would drop anything she was doing to be there if someone needed her.
"I know that a dislocated shoulder is nothing, I've had my left one dislocated as well."
"How?"
"Well, I was grounded" every story Mags had to tell began with 'I was grounded'. "And I was going to miss my best friend's birthday party, Lila" she said with a shake of her hand, as if I knew just by name which one of the 20 best friends she had was Lila. "And the tree that we had in the front yard was big enough that one of the branches reached out to my room, and I'd gone down it before. I think my dad had trimmed it a bit so there weren't usual branches I would use to come down and I ended up falling from it and landed on my side. I can still hear my shoulder popping out if the socket like-" she shivered.
"What did your dad do?"
"He rushed me to the hospital, I got fixed and he doubled my grounding from one week to one month"
I snorted a little laugh and held my side, not being able to laugh completely still.
"Good grief, I've got a lot of work coming my way"
"How come?"
"Well, if Alma is going to be half as wild as you, I don't know how I'm going to handle her"
"I don't think she's going to be much trouble, I mean, I didn't have my mom, so I was definitely missing something there"
"Yeah but usually the sense of rules and duty comes from the dad"
She looked away, reflecting on my words, then gave me a little smile
"Well then you're kind of fucked"
"All kinds?"
She gave me a chuckle "all kinds"
"And what did you do to get grounded in the first place?"
She gave me a hearty chuckle, shaking her head and covering her eyes with her hand.
"Oh my God" she said taking a big breath and then chuckling again "I stole my dad's car and got in a car accident"
I shook my head and gave her a laugh myself, but had to stop to hold my side because I could feel the ribs just not being at their 100%.
"Is that the car accident your sister always pesters you about?" She looked up doubtfully "wait do I want to know how many car accidents you've been in?"
"I don't think you do" she said we the a chuckle "but to be fair I haven't gotten into car accidents with my license."
"That's worst" she gave me an innocent shrug and took my hand, she kissed the back of it, then patted it.
"You should get some rest, I'll be here when you wake up"
Hearing her say that felt as if she had casted a spell on me, because I instantly felt so tired, and sleeping sounded like a really good idea. I just think that she knew I'd been awake for almost 7 hours now. So I settled in the bed and closed my eyes.
I didn't wake up until I assumed later, because I heard a shriek, opened my eyes, and Maggie was looking at Alma scoldingly.
"I said wake him up quietly"
Alma looked so happy to see me, as soon as I woke up she bounced in Maggie's arm's. Maggie leaned her and Alma latchet to my face and began to bite my cheek.
I knew that she was going to start teething anytime soon, and her gums were itching, her bitting anything she could find was scratching her gums, but Maggie considered them kisses. I sometimes bit on Maggie's jaw out of nowhere, so I could kind of understand where it was coming from.
"Do you have pen and paper?" I asked Maggie after I held Alma on my chest with my good hand, she was still gurgling and bitting on my cheek
"I think" she said looking at the side to her purse "why?"
"To write down some notes on how to shower someone with love, your daughter is a pro already"
I saw her roll her and and give out a loud sigh, clearly done with me.
"Very funny" she said clearly unamused.
Alma pulled herself up with her arms on my chest, she was getting so big, I felt as if I could blink right now and she will be sitting in the dinning table scribbling on a page and telling me about her day at school.
"You're growing up to fast for my liking" I said to her, she looked at me and gave me a smile, as of she knew what I was telling her "did you miss me? I missed you"
"She missed you, until I took her to the bed to sleep with me, she was thrilled you weren't there then"
"Yeah? Well I am extremely offended" Alma pressed a hand to my lips, Maggie chuckled and pulled her off of me.
"We're going to go now, it's kinda late but I wanted you to see her"
"Did anything happen when I was asleep?"
"Yeah, they were going to give you the x-ray today but they finished really late and didn't have time, hopefully tomorrow first thing they'll have something for you"
I gave her a short nod, she bent to the chair to grab her purse, then swung it on her shoulder.
"Seriously, Mags, you don't need to come here"
"I don't want to be known as the wife who didn't took care of her husband whilst he was in the hospital but, I have a bunch of meetings tomorrow so, if I come it'll be after lunch maybe"
"I'll be fine, don't stress it" I gave her a dismissing wave of my hand, Maggie gave a little sad smile, then straighten her posture and smiled more, as if she wasn't fazed by my state.
"I'll see you tomorrow love" she saluted, she leaned in to give me a short kiss, I noted my skin felt tight in some places when I tried to pucker my lips to kiss her. She didn't say anything else, just left.
As soon as Maggie was out of the room i gave myself some space to complain about the pain I was feeling, somehow they'd taken out my cast without me knowing, and the struggle of having to keep my arm and hand up was very uncomfortable, I closed my eyes, and tried to sleep through the pain.

Undercover missions bored me, specially if I had to be the one left out of it, it could be a very long process just to get the information we needed, not to mention the logistical effort we had to go through to make contact and avoid blowing the cover, putting the person who was undercover, in this case Liz, in danger of being hurt.
We tried to monitor her every move, but for the most part, we had to wait for her to request a debriefing meeting with her handler, in this case me.
I'd been at home for almost the entire day, and by the looks of it I wasn't going to be called today, Mags of course had to go to work, the aftermath of our wedding had been settled finally and things were going back to normal. I don't understand how people can get divorced and then do the whole wedding thing all over again. It was fun, sure, but it had been so physically and mentally exhausting I was glad everything was over.
I'd poured myself a cup of coffee and was settling in the living room with the remote in hand when the front door opened, and I could her the characteristics noises of Mags arriving to the house. I turned the TV on which made her question out loud if I was here.
"I'm in the living room" I sat in the sofa and took a sip of my coffee while I head her make her way to the living room, she stood next to me with a frown, her purse still hung heavily from her shoulder.
"You didn't go to work today?" She asked while lifting her feet to her hand and taking her heels off
"Not today" she sighed annoyed and took off her other shoe
"We need to talk" she said leaving her things over the coffee table.
"Oh oh" I said taking another sip
"Yes, oh oh is right" she walked to the kitchen quickly to get herself a cup of coffee and in a minute she was sitting next to me, legs laying on top of mine "I'm going to show you something that I'm not really supposed to, but I'm confident you'll shut up about it" she said taking a thick binder from her purse
"Top secret confidential stuff?" I teased, she gave me a little look and then smiled
"We also have confidential stuff okay? It's not exclusive to you people" she opened the binder and let me look through it "remember two weeks ago I was kinda freaking out, reading a lot and talking on the phone too much? It was because of this. This is a new project for some rich Chinese investors" she passed through a few pages until there was a sketch art of a sign.
"A casino?"
"Yeah, so these people came and kind of made a contest between the different architectural agencies to present projects for their casino. Now, I don't want to say we won because of me, but we kinda won because of me."
She told the binder back and threw it on top of her purse.
"We did the structural design and also the vault and the other metric security system for the same investment price and they loved it, we basically did a 2 for 1 deal. So we have this huge project on our hands, I wouldn't be surprised if it's like in the news or something, a luxury hotel and casino being built here is kind of a big deal."
"But...." I said implying there was a problem, because so far this sounded great for her.
"I..." She sighed and left her cup on the table "I feel like my plans have been botched, like, this is going to take me a year, between building and then overseeing the other sides of the project not only the ones that regard my side of the project. And maybe all the other side work..." She covered her eyes and sighed again "I'm pissed because..." She stopped and let her hand heavily fall on her thigh. "I wanted to get pregnant" she said looking at me, searching for some kind of reaction on my eyes. I didn't give her any, because I knew what she wanted the whole time, I was surprised she wasn't off her pills.
"And...?" I beckoned.
She gave me a complaining whine and pulled her legs to her chest
"You're not helping" she complained..
"Fine, how do you want me to help?" I said turning my body to fully engaged her.
"I want you to be my voice of reason, like "no baby, we can't have a baby yet we've been married for barely a month". Something like that, because if you don't want it then I can wait until you're ready"
"Well, I'm not going to say that" I said with a little chuckle that I was sure was going to make her mad "and I'm also on my late 30's, I think I'm ready, I've known you would want to get pregnant as soon as you could. It's all the matter of your own priorities baby"
"This is my priority" she said motioning between us "you, us, our family"
"Then there's nothing to discuss here" I simply stated, however she wasn't done complaining.
"My God" she said rubbing her eyes and hiding her face between her legs "he's gonna fire my ass"
"If you're going to get pregnant might as well just stop working altogether, to fully dedicate yourself to what you want. I've got you" I said rubbing her arm. She looked up at me and pouted dramatically.
"Why are you so nice?" She complained again, leaning to me and unfolding her legs, I accepted her embrace and pulled her to me, cradling her chest to mine whilst her legs staid at my side. I smiled when I felt her breath on my neck, and even more when she turned to kiss my lips.
With the hand that was previously on her waist, I pulled her closed by the neck and finally felt her smile a little over my lips.
"If you want I can make you a baby right now" I joked
"Stop, this is serious" she complained again.
"I am being serious Maggie. Why-" I stopped to sigh a little annoyed "why do we make such a big deal about the 'right time' to do things. Like you can't get married until you've dated at least two years, you can't have a baby until blah blah blah. Stop thinking about anything or anyone. Stop taking the pills, stop taking them"
Mags pouted and hugged herself to my chest, I did so too, kissing her forehead.
"Thank you" she said against my neck.
"Don't thank me for anything. Everything is just a matter of priorities baby, if your boss can't understand that this is your priority then..." I shrugged "his loss"
Maggie.
I set my toothbrush down and looked at my reflection in the mirror.
It was all or nothing today, I was going to tell my boss that I had other priorities, and in case there were some changes about how we were going to handle this huge project, I wasn't going to be working on it.
It was a scary thing to know that this time I might not get away with it, that I was going to be dropping on him some heavy news, because I knew he thought I was going to be dealing with a lot of it and he would just smile to the cameras of the press that showed up to cover the press conference that was set up to announce the investment and the project to the public.
Then, there was the other thing. Last night Don had told me to 'stop taking the pills'. That was such a scary though, it mad it all real, this was happening. Next time we had sex something could come out of it.
I'd been standing in front of the bathroom mirror for a while, thinking about everything. I pulled my hair up in a ponytail, then opened the cabinet to look for my birth control pills. I'd had all of the required medical examinations to check if I was in conditions to get pregnant and I was, taking the pills would effectively increase my chances. I waved the plastic in my hands while the pills rattled inside of the container.
I debated myself for only a second to maybe hold the baby thing for a while, but I quickly threw the pills inside the bathroom bin and stopped myself from trying to back out of this one.
I walked downstairs, expecting to be alone, but Don was standing in the kitchen, watching the waffle machine.
"I thought you were gone" I motioned at him, he was dressed casual today which made my suspicious "you're not going to work?"
"Mm" he shrugged "I haven't been called, and Keen's out of the country so, we'll resume when she makes contact. Made you breakfast" he pointed at the waffle machine while taking the lid and opening it.
"Thanks" I said walking around the counted and sitting in the high stool "I'm-" I caught his attention "you know..." He was scrapping some peanut butter off the jar and gave me a fast look "I stopped taking the pills today"
"Good" he shot me a smile "is that instant or?"
"Yeah, it's instant. So just so you know" he set the plate in front of me turned to the fridge to take out some syrup. "Something might happen"
"Hopefully" he replied. He then took his cup from the counter mad gave it a sip, I hadn't realized there was a cup of tea also waiting in front of me.
"Do you want to be a dad?" I asked him, I saw him smirk over the cup, then he set it down.
"Why would I not want to?" I looked down at the plate and took the fork and knife.
"Because, you know, I feel like most men don't really want to have kids they just have them and they're like 'well, let's deal with this'"
He pulled the other stool and sat next to me.
"That's not how I feel" he shook his head "I feel like I want to slowly start moving along with other things in life, I'm just sick of everything being about my job. Don't get me wrong, I love what I do and I'm proud of my job it's just..." He gave me a look and a smile "I see you, you know, with your nephews and stuff and it warms my heart, and that's only for a while. Children certainly complicate things a bit but.... I don't know, I like the idea of it, of this little thing that's a bit of you and a bit of me who's also waiting for you when you get home, who sees you as their personal hero... I want to quit" he gave me another look while he ran his finger over the rim of the mug "and I think that this would be the final push to make me realize that there's somewhere or something else I'd rather be doing than what I'm currently doing in the task force"
He finished, then leaned back to leave the mug on the sink, he then turned around and held my jaw with his hand, leaning in to kiss my lips, then my temple.
"Finish up here and I'll drive you to work"
"Okay" I said quietly, he smiled and leaned in for another kiss.
In the car ride to my work office, I was a little fidgety, playing with the straps of my purse. I felt Don's hand slip into mine to take it, he parked along the front door and I turned to him.
"Well, let's see how this goes" I took of my seatbelt and felt a kiss on the back of my hand.
"Call me, either to pick you back up or to have lunch later, I'm free all day" I nodded, then leaned in to give him a long kiss.
"I love you" I said over his lips, he kissed me again and patted my thigh encouragingly.
"I love you too baby. Good luck"
I crossed my fingers in front of my face as I opened the door and exited the car.
Inside, the ambiance was definitely a little hectic, I could see the accountants running around, people walk from office to office with handfuls of blueprints.
I stopped at Oscar's office and knocked, I received the come in and opened the door.
"Maggie, just the person I wanted to see, close the door" he motioned at the door and opened a blueprint over an adjacent desk he had on the side of office.
"Yeah, I need to talk to you, it's important"
"Okay, but make it quick, we need to start evaluating this and head to the site to oversee the terrain we'll be building on."
"Okay, quick. I'm not going to be working on this project"
I saw his shoulders square up and he turned at me with a little confused and angry frown.
"What do you mean? This is a lifetime opportunity Mags, your next promotion for sure, Vice-Presidency is what we're talking about here"
Oh wow, I didn't know he was planning to make me vice-president after this project.
"I understand, but Don and I had other personal plans and we both agreed that this would set us back a lot, so... If your have to fire me I un-"
"No no no, nobody is getting fired. What are we talking about here? Kids?"
"Yeah, we're already looking"
"Well" he ran his eyes over his desk, then placed his hand on his hip thoughtfully "we can do this. We will start working on this normally, when you can't go to the site anymore because you know" he motioned at me "you're showing, you will resume your work here, and try to lead everything from here, hopefully we can get your side of the project done on 5 or 6 months" he looked at me to confirm the timeline.
"3 months if we throw everything we've got at it"
"That would be amazing. And then when you near the final months, work from home, cellphone availability during work hours, and weekly meetings here with me and the rest of the team. Does that sound good?"
"I..." I stutter "that sounds amazing. And I'm sorry if I'm completely rude or you feel like I'm prying on an special deal but-"
"Maggie, I appreciate you were bold about this from the beginning rather than show up halfway through this project telling me you're quitting because you're pregnant. Everything is fixable. Now" he extended his hand which I gladly took in a firm handshake "that deal aside, let's continue with this one" he motioned at the papers again.
I had a stupid smile all day I couldn't believe things had gone as good as they had. Either Oscar was going to regret this deal he made me later on, or I was that important to him.
I spent the rest of the day at the terrain we were going to be building on, we couldn't have asked for a better location, the access to it was mainly deserted, which was a huge advantage because we could really turn up this side of town, have an avenue come right this way and we could set up the entrance to the casino and the eventual guests if the hotel however we wanted it. The excavation process was going to take up to a month, between that and levelling the terrain, we had to dig down approximately half a mile, it had to be massive to accommodate both sides of the business.
I hadn't realized it was nearing down on lunch break until I got paged on the walkie, telling me Don was waiting for me at the security gate.
I had to walk a few feet until I saw the guard and motioned at him to let Don go through with the car, and while he parked on the far side away from all the trucks, I walked the long distance towards the car.
"You're still here" he said as soon as I got into the car. I gave him a smile and nodded, pulling the seat a little behind so I could stretch my legs more comfortably.
"I am. I can't believe what happened today" he handed me a plastic container with a plastic fork.
"And what was that?" He also took his own food to eat it.
"Mm" I hummed while I swallowed to continue the conversation "he basically said I could do it, and when I get too big we would have to adjust working hours and the likes, I could work from home if I needed to. He was planning on giving me the Vice-Presidency after this, now I'm not to sure"
"I'm sure he will" he assured "man, it's been a while since I've eaten fast food behind the wheel"
"You did that a lot?"
"Yeah" he said with a tired sigh "not since the task force, but before, in the other special force it was a daily occurrence. At least now I have some good company" he said moving his hand to touch my thigh up and down. I smiled back and him, then looked down at the almost empty container.
We continued talking after that for the remaining 20 minutes of my lunch break about everything and nothing. He said he didn't know if tomorrow he would have to go to the blacksite, but he wanted us to go out on a nice dinner after I finished my work.
I felt nervous just thinking about it, I felt like a virgin all over again thinking too much about the next time I had sex.
We said our goodbyes, then he was off again.
Hopefully the nerves at the pit of my stomach I was feeling now would go away tomorrow.

Maggie.
I had just finished with my breakfast when Gina called me in the morning. I gave Don one final look as he took his briefcase and stood from the table.
"Looks like you're also getting called in today" he stood up and kissed my forehead. I gave him a smile and stood up to walk him to the door.
"I might as well go, it's not like I can keep myself any more entertained in the house, alone" I stressed.
He turned around opening the door and gave me one last look.
"I love you" he said, I leaned in and pecked his lips.
"I love you too" I waved him goodbye and closed the door behind him.
An hour later I crossed the doors of my workplace, saying hi to Brenda with my hand as I walked past her reception desk and headed to my office.
I was going to close the door behind me but Gina hurried in and held me with a little squeal.
"Maggie!" After she squeezed the life out of me, I left my purse on the desk "I mean, you didn't have to come I could've briefed you over the phone"
I dismissed her with a wave of my hand and we sat down on the seats on the side of my desk.
"Don got called in a day after our wedding, and I've not been here in almost two weeks so... I've been kind of eager to get back to work"
There was a knock on the door, then it opened to reveal my boss Oscar peeking into the office.
"Didn't believe my ears when people told me you were back" he said opening the door widely "ready for a new challenge?"
"Oh yes" I stood up and the three of us headed to the meeting room near his office.
He'd called in for me, Gina, one of the accountants, and three of our other architects.
"I received word yesterday" he began, pacing around the room with a folder on his hands "of a new and very lucrative business opportunity. The offer comes from a Chinese magnate who's name I won't attempt to pronounce, but has has money and has come to spend it in the land of opportunities. And what does he want to build?"
There we several words thrown around, chain of  restaurants,  luxury hotel, a casino. He smiled when he heard them.
"Well, most of you are right" he opened the folder and showed us the artwork for a luminous sign "a hotel and casino, smackdown in the heart of D.C." he passed the paper to us and left the folder on the table "now, the proposition was the following; they want to hold some sort of competition between the most reputable architecture agencies in the west side of the country. All of us will have to design the casino, the suites, the building esthetic and the landscape. I think we have something, or rather someone" he said looking at me "that can give us the edge in this situation. If we also present the security system, and most importantly the vault, we might catch their interest a bit further. This magnate is willing to set up an investment of 10 million dollars, that's a lot of money and a huge boost of the name and reputation of our agency. So, we're taking this challenge" he declared, he made a motion to me with his hand "Maggie, you couldn't come back at a more perfect timing, I'm trusting your set of skills, and I'm trusting this team. We've got a lot of research to do and the timeline is 3 weeks. So, let's get to work"
The rest of the team took their teams and exited the conference room, Gina locked her arm with mine as we walked down to my office again.
"Looks like we have a couple busy days" she said, I nodded and made a gesture to my team, the ones that hadn't attended the meeting and were waiting for the briefing.
I spent the rest of the day talking to them, closing up the projects we were currently working on and advising them to sharpen up on their safe and vault knowledge, we had to thrown everything we knew at this project.
Nearing down the end of the work day, Gina had finished with her paperwork and was waiting on me, sitting on the other side of my desk as I finished she struck a conversation.
"So when are you..." She motioned at me with her hand. "Planning on babies? I know you want them"
I gave her a fast smile as I continued typing on the computer.
"Uh, I don't know. Don said whenever" I shrugged "I should at least wait a month maybe two, until things settle. I have to get on some kind of medical evaluations, I've been taking birth control pills since I was 20 and that is a definitive factor. But just" I shrugged again and saved the document, turning off the computer after that "I'm taking it easy. When it has to happen it'll happen"
"That's so sweet" I took my purse and hung it on my shoulder whilst walking out of the office "you're great with kids, and I saw the way Don looks at you when you are holding one, he definitively wants some too"
I smiled at her as we neared down the parking lot, saying my goodbyes and getting into my car.
This new project thing was a little nerve racking. I'm not going to say I wanted to get pregnant as soon as I got married, but if the project went through it would set me back a lot. I arrived home faster that in expected, the car ride had enable me to start thinking about how I was going to move forward with my life and my priorities, was I going to favor job or family on this one?.
I got into the house, hearing another car enter the driveway an parking next to mine. I waited for Don to reach me and smiled at him.
"Hi love" I saluted, when he got to my side he kissed me on the temple and pulled me into the house with him.
"Guess what I did today" I left my things on the kitchen table, as did he, taking his suit jacket off
It was odd, I usually had to pry the info of the day with various questions.
"I don't have the finest idea baby" I walked to the kettle to set some water for my tea, I head him unfasten his tie.
"So, Keen gets this diorama of a crime scene, there's a reported death an hour later, it matches the diorama." I lifted my eyes in surprise to him and leaned on the kitchen island behind me. "This kick-starts the investigation because, there's a killer who's taunting her. So, a few hours later we get another diorama, the crime hadn't been commited yet, we get the person who's building them. She says they're premonitions"
I gasped and leaned in to get the kettle.
"She can tell the future that's awesome"
I heard him snort and turned my head to him to see him shake his.
"We ask her how does she see the premonitions. She says she's not the one having them, it's her daughter, who's 9, guess what she's called".
I stopped and let the kettle on the counter with a serious expression.
"Linda Hanson" I said. He frowned and shook his head.
"No. Who is Linda Hanson? Why..." He laughed at me and walked a short step  to cage my waist with his arms. "How do you even come up with the stuff you do?" I smiled and led the cup of tea to my lips. "And who is Linda Hanson?"
"It's Sandra Bullock's character in the movie Premonition" he laughed again, making me chuckle.
"Well, no, her name wasn't Linda Hanson. It was Maggie"
"Oh" I said in realization, then placed my hand on my chest "aww, that's so sweet. You've been thinking about me all day" I teased.
"All day" he confirmed, leaning to kiss my lips slowly.
"So" I said when he finished and let go of my waist "how did she have these premonitions?"
"First of all, those don't exist, there was a logical explanation for what she was doing. She had an earpiece and the frequency it operated on made it so that way it caught a cellphone signal of the people who were conspiring to commit the murders."
"But premonitions do exist" I fought back, he just gave me a twist of his eyebrows and turned to walk to the couch.
"They don't, and we just proved it. People get to caught up on these stuff, like Aram got mad at me because I made a joke about holding a seance"
"Oh no, did you? I don't want ghosts in my house" I said serious while following him.
"No" he sat and frowned at me "ghosts don't exist"
I gave him a wide eyed look.
"Yeah, they do" he just muttered an oh my God while leaning back on the couch and taking the remote. "Donald they do, I've seen and had numerous experiences with ghosts before" I sat next to him, pulling my legs underneath me. He just gave me a side look and shook his head.
"They don't" he said again.
"They do! There was this one time-"
"I don't want to listen to your ghosts stories, something logical happened and I don't want to make you look bad"
"I was in a hotel in Texas, I was taking a shower and the water suddenly turns off, the lights went off and the shower curtain was pulled open by its own, and no-one pulled it, there was no one on the other side. I freaked out, ran out of the bathroom almost naked, left the door to my room wide open. I came back with the hotel staff; the door was locked, the curtain was closed again, and the lights were on. What happened there?"
"The power was shut down" he explained "and the water tank probably ran on electricity so that's why the water shut off"
"And the shower curtain?" I inquired. He shrugged "see, you don't have an answer for the shower curtain, that's why we don't have shower curtains on the bathroom, you complain about the glass sliding doors and how they look ugly, I'm terrified of shower curtains"
He was laughing halfway through, and I couldn't believe he was laughing at me.
"This is serious" I said in a not serious tone and a little smile. He hadn't looked at me through my whole story, and he did to pat me in the thigh. "This isn't like those times like yeah I play it out and I'm acting like I'm serious, this is real I do believe strongly in ghosts."
He nodded, and then frowned a little bit.
"Wow, is this like... The one thing I don't like about you, that you believe in ghosts and premonitions? Do you believe in power crystals as well?" He said with a little mocking tone.
Yeah, I did.
I sat straight in the couch and crossed my arms at my chest, pretending to be angry, Don didn't noticed.
"Haven't told you the best part yet" he continued "when we were going to apprehend him, I didn't follow the tactical team, I took another route and shot him from the building across"
"That's nice" I said unenthusiastically.
He turned his head to me, then chuckled as he crawled from the side of the couch to mine.
"Don't come over here" I warned. He chuckled again and kept moving towards me, until he'd caged me on the corner of the couch. I wasn't looking at him, my arms still crossed.
"I didn't mean to make you upset, but ghosts don't exist"
"Fine" I answered shortly.
I wasn't really mad, I just liked to tease him. It would be completely childish to get mad at him because he didn't believe what I believed in. He knew, so he just kept staring at me, to see if I would crack, it took me a while, but a smile finally peaked on the corner of my mouth, making him lean in and kiss my lips.
"You're mean" I said after he stopped.
"And you're irrational" he replied.
He moved to lay his head on my lap, and I gladly placed one of my hands on his hair and the other one on his temple.
"And what did you do?" He beckoned me with a fast look, then he returned to the TV.
"Meh, a thing."
"Mm a thing" he repeated.
"Yeah, just some thing I have to start working on. It's gonna take me a while."
"A while" he turned his head back to me with a frown
"Yeah, three weeks tops, and if we have it approved, which I doubt, it'll take me another while."
"Mm" he hummed again "sounds like we're back on business." He patted the  side of my leg and turned on the TV again.
I mentally hesitated to tell him my worries about the project and how it would interfere with our plans to start a family, but I kept quiet because the casino thing wasn't a thing yet, we'd cross that bridge when we get to it.
