Under the Umbrella (Kim Mingyu)
Alright y’all...you have my full permission to condemn me for never being on. I meant to have this posted like two weeks ago, but moving is hectic. Anyways, a happy late birthday to @notprincesscharming and @mingyulonglegs and I hope y’all like this! -Bee

“Y/N, don’t forget the umbrella,” Joshua called from the kitchen. “The news said it was actually gonna rain today.” He came into the living room, holding a bowl of popcorn, calmly sticking them into his mouth one by one. He eyed your casual attire, wondering if you’d be able to make it without getting wet.
You shook your head as if reading his mind. “They’ve been saying that since...forever ago and it’s been nothing but hot weather. I’ll live.” You sighed when your roommate shook his head at you, and went back to find said umbrella and came back out with a small huff and he nodded approvingly. You had just opened the door, stepping outside and only stopping when you remembered. “Do you need anything?”
“The will to live might be nice! I’m ready to drop out or get hit by a bus….I’m fine with either option at this point.” He flashed you his famous devil may care grin. “Anything will be better than this torture.”
You pulled out all the won in your pocket and waved it at him. “Sorry pal; the best I can do is an energy drink and maybe some ramen if you’re lucky.”
“I can live with that. Make sure it’s not that low carb shit though! Last time, I had a crash so bad that I slept for two days.” The engagement ring on his finger reflected against the sun and it shone on your face, making you turn away with a grimace. The wedding was a week away and you couldn’t believe how soon so many things that’d change. At least you knew that this would always be intact.
“You take what you get and you don’t complain!” You laughed and closed the door, ready to head to town for the week’s groceries since Joshua would be doing the cooking for a few more days. The sky was blue but a hint of the gray clouds colored around it. Rain had been in the forecast for sometime but it had yet to fall and you knew once it happened, the last traces of the humid weather would disappear for the remainder of the year and the cold would take its place.
Normally, you’d be thrilled to bring out your sweaters and blankets and parade down the streets in your favorite boots but lately you couldn’t find yourself to move past the summer or the adventures it brought. You could still taste the watermelon when you speared it with a toothpick and ate it while you waited in the laundromat for the washer to finish its last spin cycle and you could hear the songs playing on the radio while you roasted marshmallows and swatted the pesky mosquitoes while the campfire crackled happily with the attention. And you could smell the sunblock as you rubbed it on your skin even though you didn’t plan on leaving the shade. These memories you couldn’t let go of just yet and you hoped it could stay like that just a little longer until you could accept it. Especially when those expressive brown eyes and warm smiles that lit your soul from the inside out seemed dedicated to searing themselves deeper and deeper into your heart until a permanent mark took its place. You dusted the nonexistent dog hair off your shirt, hoping to shake it off.
The grocery shopping didn’t take as long as you expected it to, so you took the long way home, picking up a few extra things on the way back, even cutting your roommate some slack and picking up some takeout so he wouldn’t dirty the kitchen you spent a long time cleaning up. You didn’t enjoy the hot breeze that hit your face but it still hinted at the summer weather and for that, you were grateful. You walked past a popular restaurant, pausing when you recognized Minghao and nearly waved at him until you saw that he wasn’t alone. Your breath got caught in your throat and you struggled to get it out, your lungs failing you. Your hands trembled a little at the sight and it took all your power not to drop all the items in your hand and turn around. Minghao saw you and he waved, but you couldn’t. You merely walked past the window, not bothering to turn back until you were sure you wouldn’t see either of them. You faked a smile and a good mood for Joshua (which he bought, bless his soul) as you chatted (or rather gloated at how you were right and you didn’t need the umbrella) at the table and when you went outside to take the trash out, you looked at the evening sky once more.
Not a hint of rain.
*
The relationship you had hadn’t always been this way and you didn’t think you’d even make it as far as it did. You and Joshua had agreed to travel abroad together to experience a life outside of your home while you continued your studies, deciding that you needed a culture shock at least once in your life. You lucked out when you moved somewhere you could still speak English but the same couldn’t be said for others. That’s how Joshua met Kim Mingyu when they became roommates for a year.
Mingyu was someone who understood the basics of English but often had trouble communicating so the pair became fast friends because Joshua spoke Korean almost as well as Mingyu. It’s not that you didn’t have an interest in getting to know him, but you stayed in your dorm a lot, often studying and refusing to leave the place when your social anxiety kicked in, especially when it felt like you couldn’t relate to your own roommate. But when you started spending more time in their dorms, it seemed inevitable to befriend him as well.
He piqued your interest when you saw the photographs hanging all over the place and how good they looked even if he wasn’t a professional. He took a lot of candid pictures Joshua and many other boys you recognized both in your class and around the campus, and you noticed the captions on the back, writing the dates and the activities and the food stains that contrasted against the whiteness of the Polaroid he sometimes used. You were confused when you saw yourself in some of the background photos because you couldn’t remember Mingyu ever taking out a camera in your presence. It surprised you even more when you found out it was more of a hobby than a passion for him.
You weren’t sure what sparked the movement but you just knew that one day he was your best friend’s roommate and the next, he showed you his private world that included bass playing and poetry slams his other friends helped him write. He left after a couple of semesters due to him still being undecided in his major, but exchanged social media to keep in touch with each other’s lives. He was a great friend and even though it hadn’t been meant to have him around for a long time, you were satisfied in knowing you could watch him grow and cheer for him from afar. After all, it was a big wide world and you didn’t expect to cross paths with him again, not when he was destined for great things and his lack of posts on his social media proved it.
Over the school years, you and Joshua hopped around from university to university and meeting new people and being introduced to new things. You two dated around, although no serious commitments ever came out out of that, which sometimes bothered you because of the pressure to find someone hit you out of nowhere but Joshua often encouraged you to shrug it off and have fun. You wanted something serious but also your wanderlust always won in the end and you knew finding someone who was okay with you seeing parts of the world with your best friend was nearly impossible.
Your luck seemed to change when you arrived in South Korea. Tired of always asking your parents to transfer money into your bank account, you obtained a work visa to provide for your necessities and Joshua followed suit. You finally managed to move out of the dorms and into your own apartment with him as your roommate. Granted, you struggled in the beginning but anywhere seemed like a better option than sharing a place with someone you didn’t know.
It didn’t surprise you when Joshua casually announced he was going on a date one night you were doing calculus but you wondered why it had taken so long. When the first date turned into a second and then a third, you felt lonely because he didn’t stay home as much, even though he tried not make you feel left out and you appreciated that. However, you knew that you couldn’t hold onto him forever, especially because he seemed serious about this one. So you sucked it up and let Joshua be, keeping your emotions to a minimum.
One day, while at the hardware store, you were browsing the aisles, looking for the paint section because the living room needed a new coat when you saw a familiar face. He stuck out like a sore thumb even after not seeing him in a few years. Kim Mingyu carefully balanced the bird feeders in his arms and when he struggled to hold onto them, you found yourself running to help when one nearly toppled to the floor. His eyes widened when he saw you but he treated you like an old friend as he chatted away about the old lady near his house who was too old to replace her old ones and your paint was long forgotten. Just before he left, he said it had been good to see you again and it was a small world to wind up there of all places. You left home with a good mood at seeing him even though you exchanged nothing except a small catchup on your lives.
A month later, you found out you worked next door to each other when you had gone out for lunch and you saw him leave a local clinic for his own lunch. He called your name, flashed you a smile and waved you down, heading in opposite directions and all, and you ended up eating at a Japanese restaurant he swore was the best in the area. From there, not only did you try to time your lunch breaks to at least see him, but you finally managed to get his phone number although you quickly realized he was busy outside of work too. He had hobbies that included building cabinets and desks and painting them, and often checked in with the ajumma in exchange for learning her recipes. (He said it was good for future résumés.) He had switched to online courses so he’d have more time to do things so whenever you saw him during the lunch hours you couldn’t meet up, you’d see him with a laptop stuck to his face as he typed away.
The first time he asked you to hang out with him after work happened at the last minute. With work being slow, you were allowed a couple of hours earlier than usual when he had walked out, his phone wedged between his shoulder and his ear as he locked up, assuring someone it’d be okay. He had spotted you the moment he hung up and asked if you were busy. When you told him no, he apologized for asking you last minute but he had planned to go to a concert with his friend Seungcheol, but his sister had broken her arm and they were currently at the hospital and if you’d like to go. You thought about it a moment, quickly weighing out the pros and cons, and agreed. You texted him your address and he promised to pick you up within 30 minutes. Joshua wasn’t there so you wrote him a note not to wait up for you and that you had your keys in case you arrived later than planned and Mingyu whisked you away for the afternoon.
You two hit it off and before you knew it, he became part of your everyday life and you managed to balance school, work, home and now him. He began calling you weekly to see if you’d like to accompany him to do laundry late at night and most of the time, you said yes. Though most of the time he worked on his assignments, he made sure to bring the seasonal fruit in a container for you two to snack on until you complained you were hungry and he dashed to the McDonald’s across the street for a last minute meal. He invited you to a lot of other places that recommended or required a plus one and you went along with him whenever time allowed.
It took you a lot longer that you wanted to admit that he was someone who couldn’t be alone. Most of his personality trait revolved around the fact that he needed constant companionship and it wasn’t a bad thing but when you asked him about it he shrugged and said he liked being around people. But he did, however, invite you to an animal shelter and he rescued a pup that he fell in love with immediately. And then you figured out he liked helping others, felt a sense of responsibility and pride when he looked after people, and when you brought it up to him another night, he gripped the insect repellent little too tightly which made it slip from his hands and fall with a dusty crash next to Aji who woke up scared from her nap. He never thought of it like that and with a shy smile, he placed his hand on your knee and explained his dream to become a nurse to feel that sense of belonging in the world while Ed Sheehan sang contentedly in the background.
Joshua met him again and the two often made plans to hang out when their schedules lined up. Apparently they had a ton of mutual friends and they spent a lot of time together, often making a party out of study dates. You didn’t accompany them those times, instead taking advantage of the peace and quiet to catch up on your work, sleep or latest Netflix binge until your roommate came back.
Joshua noticed the sparkle in your eye whenever he saw you with Mingyu or whenever Mingyu stopped by, but he never said anything in fear of you denying it and pushing Mingyu away because it had happened in the past with a few others. However, he knew it wasn’t his business to interfere with your love life so he let you be, watching you slowly fall in love Mingyu, but also wondering if you’d ever make your move. He could tell that while watching Mingyu spraying your back with the sunblock and begging you to join him for a swim, he’d be your one that got away and he remained unsure if you’d be able to bounce back from that. That was one heartbreak Joshua would not know how to handle.
You swore you could never do that, but it was dusk and you saw him fiddling with the bass trying to keep the somber timbre between Hansol and Wonwoo rapping about hope despite the hopelessness they painted and you could feel Joshua wrapping his fingers around your hand as he let their words of affirmation sink in. You squeezed his hand back in reassurance, his breakdown still fresh in your minds and only let it go when you stood up to give Mingyu his well deserved standing ovation and you realized just how far you fell into the rabbit hole. He met your gaze bashfully and looked away just as quickly, a rare thing for someone as confident as Kim Mingyu. You threw a stray flower in his direction, to which he caught by the pink petal and fumbled out a meek, “thank you,” and walked offstage before anymore attention would be on him.
He might have not been the brightest crayon in the box, with the way he’d suddenly exclaim at a bruise he barely noticed while you talked about the possibility of failing one of your classes or whenever he called you in the middle of the night when you were dead asleep and asked if you wanted to go have dinner because he had just finished building the ajuma’s house for her blue jays (but you rejected those offers most of the time). Rather, it was the way he talked a hundred words a minute when it came down to him teaching Aji a new trick to when he raved about how Soonyoung was his favorite person for giving him extra guacamole so he wouldn’t have to ask for more. And your favorite times were when he’d swipe his eyes happily when he told you about the recovering drug addicts and alcoholics and how long they had stayed sober.
Just like that, you could feel the ache in your chest because you were just one of many of Mingyu’s admirers. He treated you the way he treated everyone else: with common courtesy and basic respect. You could easily find him having a meal with one of his coworkers while on break the same way you knew his everyday hobbies that included people. You didn’t let it get to you; just being his friend was more than enough. You merely smiled when it was your turn to spend time with him, feeling like the luckiest person walking the planet because you had been blessed with an angel...with respects to Jeonghan of course.
You kept him close, often letting him fall asleep during a movie when he overworked himself, and turning the air conditioner on as low as it could go because he radiated more body heat than you ever could and then covering yourselves with a blanket so he wouldn’t get cold and helping him make dinner when he didn’t have enough to go out and pretending you were in a relationship, because when he’d pick up whatever he was cooking with his chopsticks, and blowing on it so he could feed it to you and get your opinion, you couldn’t help but feel how domestic it was, especially if you managed to get sauce on your face somewhere and he’d clean it off with a napkin.
And then somewhere between your own mental breakdown from stressing out over everything and Joshua one day telling you he’s getting married, Mingyu also dropped the news he’d be leaving at the end of the month to Japan to pursue a cooking career which turned your life upside down and you went out of your way to shut him out so the goodbye could be easier. It worked some days, like when you agreed to open or close at work so you wouldn’t bump into him and joining a couple of study groups so you wouldn’t outright fail your classes and even accompanied Joshua to see the caterers that interested him the most. You’d be so tired at night, Mingyu wouldn’t even cross your mind as your head hit the pillow and your eyes closed involuntarily and you brought your blanket as close to your face as you could. And some days, it felt impossible because a piece of Mingyu always seemed to be everywhere: the grocery store, the gym you passed by on your way home, the park and you could recall the details, even the insignificant ones like Mingyu tying tying his shoe and jumping in surprise at the bee that flew in his face, mistaking him for a flower. (Could you blame the bee though? He bloomed fully with the light in his eyes and the clean smell from all the soaps and detergents and fabric softener he threw in the washer, and how beautiful he was to marvel at. You would’ve done the same thing.)
The leaves finally started changing their colors, the department stores breaking out the scarves for the cold weather, the coffee shops with their infamous pumpkin spiced everything, and the night crept in earlier with each passing day and yet, the warm weather remained as if not quite letting you let go of Mingyu either.
And even when the first day of autumn officially arrived with promises of rain in the forecast, you still sighed heavily and wondered when the summer would be over for you.
*
“Don’t wait up for me,” Joshua said on the other end of the line. “We’re still looking for homes and the person who owns the venue might be late.”
“You have three days until your wedding and-never mind. Be careful both of you. You have your key, right? Okay, yeah. I’ll see you tomorrow.” You hung up and immediately went to your room to pick up the (overdue) library books as well as the ones neatly stacked up on the kitchen counter. You were thankful that the librarian working today was familiar with you and wouldn’t charge you the late fees and for that you were grateful.
This particular day brought the time of firsts. You woke up in the morning feeling well rested and okay, and when you opened your window, a cool breeze greeted you. You even checked the weather app, and for the first time in a long time, there was no rain scheduled in the forecast. With that, you burst into a sleeping Joshua’s room and announced the good news, and running out to search for your favorite slipper socks and blanket for the special occasion. You didn’t work and you had finally caught up in most of your classes so as a reward, you binge watched all your favorite movies with your roommate until he had to get ready for the final wedding preparations and hopefully find a place to live. He asked you to come with him, especially because the temperature rose and he found it difficult not to laugh at you for getting carried away but you declined, savoring the day until reality kicked in again. That happened sooner than expected when you saw your books and cursed yourself and gave in, switching out of your pajamas for a pair of shorts.
Chan snickered at you when you sheepishly handed him the books, and as part of the deal, handed him his favorite packet of gum in exchange for the override and after picking out new reads, saw you off with a sarcastic yet happy, “See you next time!” and stuck a stick of spearmint gum in his mouth and blew a bubble.
You hadn’t even been inside long but when you stepped out, you noticed the sky had turned a dark gray color. The cold air picked at your skin and you rubbed your hands up and down along your arms to keep warm. It wasn’t a long walk but you didn’t know if you’d be able to handle it. You stopped long enough to put the books into your backpack when you felt the raindrops...and you groaned. The one time you didn’t bring your umbrella and this happened. And you hated the meteorologist in charge of the Seoul weather for not doing their job properly. It fell long and hard with the pent up energy of not doing it sooner.
You had yet to get up but you didn’t have the strength to, feeling overwhelmed as if you had just experienced a betrayal. You were supposed to enjoy the change in climate, not suffocate in it. And just like that, it stopped…but not really. It still fell around you, but it wasn’t pelting you like before. You looked up to see none other than the Kim Mingyu shielding you and himself from the rain. He offered his hand to you, and you hesitantly took it as you stood up.
“What are you doing out here dressed like that? You’re gonna get sick.”
“I didn’t know it was gonna rain. I...had to turn in some books and got some new ones.”
“Doesn’t Joshua hyung take care of you?” The tone he used surprised you. It sounded bitter, almost angry even.
“Joshua had some stuff to do for the wedding,” you mumbled, staring at the wet ground. You didn’t doubt that a few minutes, it’d be pooling at your ankles and you knew that you had to leave. Fast.
“Oh.” He stayed quiet for a moment, but not making an effort to move. “I haven’t seen him lately but please tell him I’m sorry that I’m not gonna be able to attend the ceremony.”
“Mingyu-” You were at a loss for words. “He’s one of your best friends. You need to be there.”
“I’m sorry, but I can’t. It’d…” He struggled to say thoughts out, only to fail and choke on them. “I can’t go. He’s one lucky guy.”
You nodded. “I agree. It’s what he’s wanted.”
“Is it what you want though?” He asked.
“Huh?” You looked up at him in confusion. His eyes, often telling the stories of his emotions, stared at you intensely, and you wondered if for a moment, he could see the inside of your soul.
“Does he make you happy?”
“Well, yeah. Mingyu, he’s my best friend-”
“Do you know that he’s cheating on you?”
“What?”
“While you’re over here, probably coming down with a cold, he’s out with someone else. I saw them earlier. They were laughing and holding hands and kissing I’m sorry you had to find out this way, but I can’t come to your wedding knowing that he’s gonna hurt you later in life and-”
And you laughed. So hard you cried and with those tears came all the emotions you’ve been repressing and you cried for everything and he held you with the arm that wasn’t holding the umbrella. “Mingyu…” you had to catch your breath before you could speak properly. “Mingyu, I’m not marrying Joshua.”
“Oh thank God you’ve come to your senses.”
“Mingyu, I never was. I could never, not even for all the money in the world. I love him, I really do, but not like that. Don’t you know that by now?”
“But you guys...are always doing things together...I heard you once when he called you about the flavor of cake you wanted...and how you’re always showing up everywhere together....”
“Mingyu, we’re roommates and friends. It has never gone beyond the platonic level.” Except for one drunken kiss you shared a long time ago, but it was a dare. You had witnesses. “We do a lot of things because it’s convenient for us too.” You took his hand and wrapped your pinkie around his. “He’s happy and I’m happy just the way we are.”
“So you’re not in love with him?” He wiped the last of your tears with his sleeve, looking hopeful.
“No...just you.” You dropped your gaze, not wanting to see his reaction, but wating to hear the rejection.
With that, he dropped the umbrella and took your face in his hands, not caring about getting wet. “You have no idea how long I’ve been wanting to hear you say that.” He pressed his forehead to yours. “I thought, I thought-”
“It’s just you,” you assured him. “It’s always been you, I guess. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted something as much as this.”
He finally closed the distance between you, enveloping you in a kiss with so much love, it left you breathless. “Let’s go home.”
*
Mingyu laughed as you stepped on him again but didn’t say anything. Since the band played at the reception, he hadn’t let you take a break and while you had gotten a little better, you still had a ways to improve. He kissed your cheek at the effort, and finally cut you some slack and returned to the table, holding your hand proudly the whole time.
The room was alive with music, the laughter and squeals of the children as they ran across the floor, some of them bumping into the dancers, the compliments of the place and the critiques of those family members who wouldn’t have been pleased even if the venue was made of gold, and still you looked around at everyone, the face of the married man who was still gonna be your best friend, to his friends and their dates, smiling at Vernon and his love, just because you knew their history and how his love denied they were together, even though you could see the Hansol’s ring around the neck, loud and clear for the public to see. (You could hear the conversation despite the noise. “I’m gonna smack you right now. Just walk away while you have a chance.”
“You need to let go of my hand first.”
“I’ll do no such thing.”
“Sucks. ‘Bye.”
“Chwe Hansol, come back and give me attention. I’m not done holding your hand.”)
As Joshua clinked his glass to get everyone’s attention, he caught your eye and smiled at you. He stated his speech about his move with you and even though many things had changed, things were relatively the same as well. He was uncertain about his future but one thing remained clear: with his love, he could face anything.
And you looked at Mingyu again, staring at you with a smile on his face, and you kissed him softly. Because as long as you had him, the world could hurl whatever it wanted at you.

Destinyverse: Daring Do
A look at Destinyverse’s version of Daring and her backstory!
“My work always involves secrets. And since you never know who you can trust, it's best never to trust anypony."
(Very Long) Summary Under The Cut!
- Daring Do was born within the eastern village of Lokai, most popularly known for being the village the hero Mistmane originated from ((which was canonically inspired by asian culture)). She was born under the name “Astelia Kerria Yearling”. Lokai is a village of beauty and it’s not uncommon for foals to be named after flowers and other wonders of nature. Astelia in particular, however, had the last name of “Yearling” passed down by her mother, who had been an outsider from the west.
- Astelia never knew her parents and was never told what had happened to them. All she knows is that she was directly taken in by her strict grandparents. They didn’t seem particularly fond of her, as if she were a mere obligation compared to the rest of her extended family. Not even her high academic achievements seemed to impress them much. The filly eventually decided that it was partly due to her being the first pegasus in their magical unicorn family line. - Her grandparents were incredibly old-fashioned ponies who strongly believed in tradition. Because of this, they had a specific idea of how growing fillies should be; meek, well-mannered and tidy, writers of elegant poetry or painters of still-life, like many of the elderly mares. They held all of the fillies and mares in their family to this standard. But psssSSSHHH, screw that, right? Astelia had a headstrong, witty, and fearless personality. She was independent. Spontaneous. Daring. She loved blindly throwing herself head first into anything exciting or challenging (hello free-falling from a cloud to test her flight skills. Also hello to tracking down a wild boar), no matter how intimidating or dangerous it seemed to others. More often than not, her grandparents had to reign her in and scold her for her reckless and far too bold behavior. Irritatingly enough, she was even considered a “trouble child” within her family. Then again, no one in her family knew how to handle a speedy, spirited pegasus like herself. - Astelia loved flying off to explore the nearby forests and pretend she was adventuring. She was imaginative and was inspired by the adventure-themed books she would read in the town’s library, which was full of donated books gathered from all across Equestria. Eventually she began writing down a diary of her own adventures, throwing in her wild daydreams to make her stories way more exciting. She would have her younger cousins read her writings, and their interest only spurred her on to write more. She even thought that maybe she could earn her cutie mark this way. - Unfortunately, her grandparents disapproved of her overactive imagination, believing it fed her dangerous ideas and would encourage even more unrefined behavior. They tried monitoring what she read, keeping her from running off outside the village, and even forced her into taking flower-arranging classes while squeezing her into tight dress wear of their choice. But as long as she had paper, she could secretly write down all of her ideas. It wasn’t until her secret writings were discovered and torn up in front of her by her controlling guardians that Astelia had enough of being held back. The next chance she got, the adolescent silently packed up her things and ran off, deadset on freely forging her own path. Because she planned on leading a new adventurous life, Astelia decided to discard her fancy name in favor of one that actually fit her; “Daring Do”. Because she knew she was willing to tackle anything, no matter the challenge or odds. ...it might’ve taken her a week to come up with the name, but you know. - Fortunately for Daring, she had a pretty great sense of direction! Unfortunately for Daring, she knew diddly squat about survival skills. After weeks of trekking, attempts at foraging (and getting sick five too many times), and numerous close-calls with wild bears and coyotes, Daring began questioning if she was really capable of making it on her own. Even doing odd jobs in the towns she passed through didn’t really earn her much to get by. And then she met the professor. The middle aged pegasus mare was pretty annoyed when she found this skinny, fluffed up mess of a young mare clinging to the roof of her cottage. But she did feel slightly impressed to find out Daring had been surviving on her own and had just managed to escape the clutches of a jaguar. The professor never gave her name. All Daring really got to learn about her was that she was a recluse (grumpy) historian who owned a lot of books and liked writing papers. But what the prof did offer Daring was an opportunity to learn how to hone her survival skills; if she helped with all of the mare’s chores and errands that is (oh how the prof hated going into town. Socializing. Ugh…). The professor was a pretty pessimistic, indifferent pony, but over the course of a few months, the two managed to respect and grow on each other. Well, if you consider throwing sassy (yet somewhat fond) jabs at each other ‘respect’. - The professor offered Daring a slew of information; books on the safest berries to forage and their locations in the region, books on the local animals. Heck, the prof gave a few lessons on basic self defense (slimy thieves weren't uncommon. And you might have to bop a snake in the snoot every once in a while). But there was one book in particular that captured Daring’s interest. It was a historic book with a special combination lock, filled with pages upon pages of information on ancient relics, old ruins, and ancient prophecies. While the book faciated Daring, the prof shrugged it off, explaining that she had gotten the book at a market over a year ago. After cracking the code, she was disappointed to find it was simply filled with exaggerated myths and legends. After all, since when could chunks of metal have the power to create eternal night and sink a whole town? Pft. Well, even if was a work of fiction, it was definitely Daring’s favorite book in the prof’s collection. - Daring was still a young and trusting mare at the time. So when a trio of ponies politely approached her in hopes of locating a local historian, intent on gathering information on an item they were writing a paper for, Daring didn’t think too much about it. In fact, she recognized the drawing of the item! It was in the professor’s book! Maybe she wasn’t sure whether her loner of a mentor would like company or not, but who was she to turn away ponies that she could actually help? However, she came to regret her decision upon returning to the cottage. The ponies she guided abruptly tried (and failed) to knock her out and in moments were tearing up the house. In her daze she remembered hearing shouting. She remembered seeing the ponies dragging off a tied-up professor, the relic book in hoof, and running with reckless abandon. At first Daring froze, still processing the robbery and kidnapping. But upon realizing her mentor could be in danger, courage welled up within the young mare and Daring quickly trailed them. At first she tried to locate them from the sky, but after a moment of realization, she used the ground to follow their hoofprints and broken branches. - Trailing and eavesdropping led Daring to some old ruins, where she would for the first time meet Ahuizotl. Apparently the creature had hired pony-help to scout and capture the great Book of Relics that the professor was unlucky enough to get involved with. After threatening the mare, he was able to get the code needed to open the ancient book and gain access to all the information he’d ever need on every artifact. At that moment, Ahuizotl used the newfound information to unleash his latest artifact. Daring firsthand got to witness its great power as the sky was filled with dark, powerful storm clouds that could flood the whole land. Within seconds, the heavens unleashed heavy sheets of rain, drenching Daring to the bone. -While Ahuizotl was distracted with his villainous speech, Daring managed to sneak in and untie the professor. Too bad Ahuizotl’s big cats are never too far from him and Ahuizotl had no more use for the professor and some wannabe kid. Daring soon found herself surrounded Yet, as one of Ahuizotl’s cats lunged at her, a ferocity she never knew she had within emerged. Maybe it was adrenaline, or determination, but Daring bucked and stomped and sunk her teeth into fur and skin like never before. In all the chaos, not only did Daring find an opening for the professor to escape, but Ahuizotl’s smallest kitty managed to catapult right into his face. Daring took the chance to drop kick the giant blue ape-dog and snatch up both the amulet and the book before dashing off. As she and the professor flew through the flooding temple, Daring flipped through the book’s pages and was able to solve the riddle needed to deactivate the relic. And luckily for her, the rising water was able to slow down Ahuizotl and his water-deterred felines, allowing her and her mentor to escape. - Running as far away from the temple as possible, Daring was frazzled and panicked. The stories were real. The curses, the dungeons, the powers, all of it. And that giant mutt almost drowned out a whole nation and thousands of innocent ponies with just one of these relics. Daring didn’t think twice. Ahuizotl had scoured through numerous pages of the book before she had arrived and stepped in. He said it himself in his speech; he now knew the locations of a dozen more relics. And if she and prof didn’t get to them first, then well...she couldn’t even imagine what would happen to Equestria. The professor, however, had other ideas; just burn the cursed book and walk far, far away. She was just a historian after all. All she wanted was to study in peace. She had no business facing criminals who nearly tried to kill her just for having a single book. No, she wanted none of that nonsense. And if Daring knew what was best for her, she suggested the filly should think of herself. Daring was shocked. The professor had seen for herself the destruction a single artifact could cause, how could she leave this be without batting an eye? Daring tried arguing, pleading even for the professor to just work with her. But the professor had made up her mind. And if Daring wasn’t going to listen and wanted to risk her life being some hero, then she wasn’t going to stop her. Daring had already demonstrated that she had what it took. - The two parted without any farewells. Daring had never felt so frustrated and betrayed and bitter, being left to process her new knowledge and shoulder the sense of responsibility by herself. So on that day it was settled; she didn’t need help. Her naive mistake already proved to her that she couldn’t trust just anypony. She swore to herself that she could take care of things alone, for her protection and the protection of everypony. In that moment, her resolve to protect the land and secure the relics earned Daring her cutie mark. Daring matured over the years, becoming tougher and rougher with every quest. - Daring used the Book of Relics as a checklist and guide of sorts. Sure, it didn’t have all the fine details to help her locate her artifacts, but it gave enough information to push her in the right direction. From there, information from locals or the nearest libraries helped create a clearer path. Sightings and talk of wild cats or an unknown blue creature usually helped Daring know what relic to target first. - As if Ahuizotl wasn’t already a hoof-full, eventually Dr. Caballeron came into the picture. After Daring turned down his greedy offer to work as her partner so they could sell relics and share the profits, the stallion turned on her. Daring then found herself with a target on her back as Dr. Caballeron used her trail to help lead him to the priceless artifacts he so desired. It was then that Daring began disguising herself and decided to have a secluded base away from society. - During her down time, whenever she needed to rest and recuperate, Daring found herself writing again. Then the craziest idea went through her head; wouldn't it be cool if she published her stories and her adventures managed to inspire kids? Just like her when she was young...she couldn’t have anypony know all of it was real, though, cause who knew how many other grubby hooves wanted unspeakable power. So after finding a publisher and a cover artist, Daring published her first book. But that meant putting down a different name for the author. So why not just shorten a name she already knew? And thus, the author A.K. Yearling made a name for herself, completely changing the adventure genre as ponies knew it. ------------------ Afterstory:
- When she reflected on it, Daring actually felt pretty touched when Rainbow Dash had chosen to stick with her and help out during their first adventure together, despite how harsh and unwelcoming Daring had been. Without a doubt, the excitable goof grew on her. Through Rainbow's efforts, Daring learned to put down her walls and open herself up to other ponies again. Then came the quest that led her to a gruesome wing injury, forcing her to hole herself up in her cottage until she could recover. The results for her wing’s state looked grim, and as criminals ran freely, Daring found herself at her lowest. What would happen if Daring Do retired…? Who was she then? -Rainbow supported her through these dark days, and even offered to take over her work until Daring healed up and could get back into it. Daring acted as support during these days, doing all the necessary research and secret reconnaissance to give Rainbow the information she would need to act. The two found themselves working together as a great team. Daring decided to use these adventures for a new arc in her books, determined to tell the tale of Rainbow’s strength and loyalty (under an alias, of course; Spectrum Storm). - Whether working together to take down a criminal or simply lazing together after a long day, Daring and Rainbow Dash grew closer than ever before. Even when there was no mission, Rainbow would frequently visit Daring after Wonderbolts practice just to check up on her and make sure her spirits were still up. Daring greatly appreciated Rainbow’s attempts at being there for her during these dark, melancholy days. Although it was a little scary, she felt she could truly let her guard down and depend on her friend. Feelings and tension started to build within Daring, something she felt nervous and incredibly embarrassed over. It didn’t help how flippin OBLIVIOUS Rainbow was. Stupid dorky pegasus, being stupidly cute and stupidly attractive with her dumb, charming grin and- UGH. WELL, turned out Rainbow had feelings for Daring for a long while. It just took some time to realize “wait shit, I’m in love with her, O H”. - After months of recovery, it was finally concluded that Daring’s wing would never be able to fully heal and would permanently affect her flight. Thankfully, Daring was prepared and was able to come to peace with herself. She decided it was probably time to just retire as an adventurer, believing she’d only be endangering herself (and others) by forcing herself to go up against criminals and crumbling dungeons in her new state. At first she planned on finding somepony who’d be willing to take her place and continue where Rainbow left off, but Rainbow Dash immediately waved the very idea away by volunteering to take over permanently. Cause well, that meant she could keep working alongside Daring. And that’s where she wanted to be anyway.. Daring was a flustered (but touched) mess of feathers, to say the least. Eventually these two dummies got married and had two fluffy, hard-headed kiddos together. -------------------- Extra: -Daring still goes by A.K. Yearling in public, but since “Daring Do” was such a prominent part of her, she considers it her true name. Rainbow has come to call her Daring and Dare when they’re alone.
-For her interviews as A.K., Daring made up all the information about where she grew up and where she studied literature. However, there’s a possibility she eventually wrote a prequel to her Daring Do series, revealing ‘Daring Do’s’ backstory. Her backstory, of course. -Daring eventually did return to Lokai. Surprisingly her family was overjoyed to see her alive and healthy, but there was also the disappointment that well...she didn’t come back before her grandparents had passed away. Daring felt some guilt over this, but decided to make up the lost time by getting to know everyone again. Luckily not everypony was stuffy like her late grandparents, and many were genuinely interested in her adventures. Dare visits every once in a while and has brought along Monochrome and Venture Gale once or twice. -Thanks to Daring’s numerous near-death experiences, Daring tends to get nervous over every little thing that could possibly hurt her babies. It sure took a lOOOT of coaxing to convince her that Rainbow Dash could look out for their son on their quests together.
I was never into the idea that Rainbow and Daring were secret relatives. When I acknowledged that, I was like "...I could make a next gen with these two...". And that's how Monochrome came to be. Then when I drew Daring for the first time in 'Admirer', I really liked how she looked and it made me think about how cool it'd be if she were, in our world, asian or part asian. So then I developed this backstory for her. Just two more things; don’t think too hard about the professor and who she is. She just seemed detached enough as a concept that it made sense that a name would not be established. I don’t imagine the two meeting again. Secondly; I actually can’t settle on what happened to Daring’s parents. So that part is free for interpretation! Maybe they died, maybe they eloped and left baby Daring behind. Who knows.

Tell me all about that steampunk game! I love that style :)
nice!! i used to be big into steampunk but i never cosplayed in the style or did much other than watch steam boy (great movie) and listen to dr. steel, abney park and steam-powered giraffe
(putting this under a read more because holy fuck it’s long)
note: if you want to learn more, you can send specific asks about specific characters and i’ll try to answer them as best as i can
characters
1. Victor Porter, 21, cishet male | An airship soldier who has a prosthetic arm; is considered to be a hero by some, a heartthrob by others, but who believes that humans are top race and everyone else is beneath him. Says quite a few degrading/racist things about other races, which is including but not limited to xenophobia and microaggressions. He lost his arm at the age of 8 when a group of soldiers from another country came and murdered his parents, then targeted him and his sister. He was already bleeding heavily but he saw them about to hurt his sister so, with a punch of adrenaline, he lunged between the blade and his sister and thus had his arm cut off completely. He felt no pain due to the adrenaline, but then spent a week or two in the hospital recovering. He screamed quite a bit when he realized what had happened. He was later given a weak prosthetic arm with working fingers to be able to work in the city but was fired because the hand couldn’t properly grip things, so he spent most of his time reading about airships and piloting them. At the age of 16, he was given a golden prosthetic arm with working parts that made the fingers move so well and fluidly that it was a blessing; he put the arm to good use and cleaned it every night to keep it in good shape. He experienced ghost pains in his arm for the longest time which he thought were fixed with a few sips of alcohol in a secret carafe, and later he joins the army to protect his friends and family from outside forces.
2. Amelia Porter, 16, cishet female | Sister to Victor, Amelia is a young woman who loves fashion and sewing and creates her own clothes by thrifting old clothes. She works primarily with a large fashion company and models their clothes, most notably corsets and stockings. She rarely show much skin other than her arms, chest (cleavage) and legs (no higher than mid-thigh), and she is very child-friendly and polite to everyone she meets. While her brother is the dark, brooding type, she sees the good in everyone and everything and is very fascinated by the different races and cultures that mix in her home city. She is very small and petite, and although she remembers vividly her brother protecting her from soldiers, she refuses to let him keep a close eye on her, reassuring him that she’s a grown woman who doesn’t need a man to tell her what to do. She’s very independent and mature for her age, but prefers to act like a Disney princess. Like her brother, she can say some sort of racist things without realizing it but apologizes for being insensitive and wants to better herself and respect those she’s wronged. She really enjoys pastel and pink and “girly” things and is most always wearing a large skirt with a high bustle and corset with her hair in pigtails, braids or a bun.
3. Kit and Kat Enrora, 18, cishet male/female | Twin siblings who hail from a foreign land that moved to the main city in the sky to open a bakery under their family’s name of Enrora. They traveled by airship to arrive in the city only to face poverty at the prospect of being in a new land, and soon worked their way up to be able to open a bakery and sell their sweets. They are elves with long ears and markings to signify which lands they come from, and hold fast to the lore and legends of their hometown. They are skilled with herbs and incorporate them into their sweets to bring blessings upon those who purchase them. The female elf - Kit - embraces her elf heritage and dresses in garb from her hometown - primarily sheer skirts, soft-colored tops and gold jewelry to compliment her tanned skin and emerald green eyes. Her brother, Kat, has decided to build a new life for himself in the city and wears the garb of those that live there, which consists of slacks, spats and button-down shirts with vests. Despite their success so far in the city, they are looked down upon by most humans for being a different race and people believe they have an ulterior motive because of the way their menu is written in their native language and the language of the humans (similar to how white people are immediately suspicious of people wearing hijabs). The airship soldier, Victor, walks in one day and quickly falls for Kit based on her looks but is rude to her because of her elf heritage. Kit soon realizes he’s a dick and stands up for herself and her brother by kicking him out, and when he returns to apologize, she refuses to let him get away with a simple “I’m sorry” and gets him to face the truth that he’s an asshole.
4. Enoch Davies, 18, demisexual man| Enoch is a man of very few words, but very high intelligence. Born and raised on the city in the sky and living his life as a human, he is still underestimated due to his dark skin and stagnant silence. Enoch has had high marks in all his academic courses since elementary school, and yet people view him as little more than a “steam cleaner” because he repairs airships for the military and little else. He can be seen hanging around the bakery very often as he has a weak spot for the sweets sold their, and if properly asked, he will admit that he has a secret love of poetry; on rare occasions one can see shelves and shelves of journals in his office that he’s filled up over the course of a few months. He has dreads that reach the center of his back when let down, and wears them up in a bun while he’s working to keep them out of his face. Although his work for the army is a greatly appreciated task, he is still disregarded as a mere worker. However, when the army needs him most, he can easily calculate strategies and analyze data at lightning-fast speeds. When he speaks, his voice is gentle and soft and highly inquisitive.
5. Ewan Gilian, 20, poly agender person | A werewolf who’s spent most of his life collecting peculiar items, Ewan is a travelling merchant who brings his wares to far-off countries for a great price - and perhaps some juicy gossip as well. For the right price, Ewan will tell you how the people far away dance till the sun comes up, or how Miss Augustine down the road frequents the bar a little too often before she has to teach classes. Ewan also has a way with words, which has gotten him out of a few situations regarding the police, capitalism and the royal guard. Every so often, however, Ewan’s signature merchant’s carpet won’t be found at the marketplace, and by that logic, it is safe to assume that he’s either sick as a dog (*cough cough*) or just simply out having a nice date night with his partner(s).
*this is only a very short list of who i have set up. there’s also faun people and fairies and much much more in terms of npcs and characters.
i also have a concept for a religious faction to divide the town - those who believe in the Goddess of Steam and those who believe in the Goddess of Science.

EFFIGY- MINA EIKMANIS
HISTORY ♦ It started with Art school. That's where Alejandra Luciano met Lena Barnes as freshman roommates. They became best friends and more, almost stronger than sisters, and were inseparable for the first two years. Around year three Lena dropped out because her online clothing shop (clothing design was her specialty) had taken off. They drifted apart, and during that time Al started seeing a young aspiring writer that she had met through a poetry slam. Don't judge them, they were young. They both had a love of the classics, of horror novels and movies, and of the macabre in general. Lena, despite being asexual, had tried to have a relationship of her own due to her desperate desire to please her family and to have children of her own. The man she had picked was not a good one though and by the time Lena managed to get away from his abuse he'd managed to alienate her from friends and family alike. In an act of sheer desperation she contacted her old friend Al, who talked Dominic into letting her stay with them. ♦ Not every relationship can be expanded to include a third party, especially if it's not open to begin with. Many can't, there's some level of bitterness or jealousy, this one was different. Perhaps because Lena was asexual and her love for Al easily expanded to include Dom as well. It was like living with their best friend and everyone was happy with this set up. Her friends filled the companionship void for Lena and the romantic void she filled with online dating, never to meet, it was better for her that way. The trio grew even closer when much to everyone's dismay Alejandra had a miscarriage and her doctor informed her that due to some deformity of her uterus it was highly unlikely that she'd be able to carry to term. Lena agreed to be their surrogate. They named the boy Byron, because of course they did.   ♦ Lena agreed to play surrogate again two years later and Mina was born. The three have raised the children as co-parents. While both Mina and Byron think of Dom and Al as mother and father, Lena is something like a step-mother or close aunty. Mama Lena was shortened to Ama-li by Byron when he was 2. She's been Amali to both children ever since. Lena designs alternative clothing for a small company (think heavy redd or killstar but tiny more like drac in a box). Al specializes in painting, digital or oil based primarily, and telecommutes as an illustrator. Dominic is the most successful of the trio, being a horror author, not quite on the level of Clive Barker or Stephen King, but he makes a very good living all the same. Between the three of them, they have a very nice home overlooking the ocean. ♦ Aside from having a home that was one part fairy estate, one part victorian demesne, and one part haunted mansion Mina had a fairly normal childhood. Okay, okay, so her parents couldn't afford the big nice house they currently live in until she was about 12. Still! She played outside, had a dog, alternately hated and worshiped her big brother, had doting parents, the usual. Her life's just always had a bit of a macabre twist to it and she wouldn't have it any other way. It caused her problems when she was younger, being called Wednesday and such in elementary school. ♦ Dominic is a mutant. He's got a peculiar form of pattern adaptation, his brain sees the patterns in written or audible languages and lets him translate them after a few hours of listening/studying. It's helpful for reading novels in their original text, or when traveling abroad, but nothing too out of the ordinary. He firmly believes (and writes about) the paranormal because of the alterations in the patterns of life going on around him. He can't see ghosts or spirits or anything like that but he can see how something effects change in the weave of life around him, be it magic or ghosts or whatever. So when first Byron developed mutant powers it wasn't surprising or disappointing to anyone in their happy little family. ♦ Mina was a late bloomer, at least as far as mutant powers were concerned. They weren't sure if she'd get any at all, if she even was a mutant. Last year, things began to change. Mina started modelling for Lena and her pictures ended up on more than just that one clothing site. At least, that's what they suspect happened, it could have been someone that saw her walking down the street, someone that saw her at school. It could have been any number of things, chance meetings, she really doesn't know and there's no way to find out now. All she knows is that the stalking began in September of 2017. It began simply enough, small gifts, a little stuffed black cat that looked like their Binx, complete with copper eyes, a bunch of calla lilies (her favorite), but soon progressed to odd text messages and phone calls.  Nothing really bad, the text messages were simple things like 'you looked pretty today' or 'i like your hair that color, you should wear it like that more' and the phone calls were hangups. ♦ Things eventually progressed though, the messages spread all through her social media, she'd block the ones that seemed like they came from the same person, even got pretty good at figuring out particular text patterns. She changed her number when the calls and text messages became too frequent and kept her up at night. Her parents contacted the local police but since it was done through an anonymous temporary number service there was no way to track it, and the guy had never actually threatened her. Once he could no longer hear her say 'hello' and all of her social media was changed to friendslocked and she weeded out anyone she wasn't close to, he became more desperate for contact with her. That was when the black car started lurking outside of her house. It didn't belong to any of the neighbors and asking for extra patrols of their neighborhood did no good, the car was always gone when they drove through. He started leaving letters in their mailbox or actually slipping them in through the pet door, under car windshield wipers, and somehow managed to avoid the security cameras each and every time. The most any of them had ever caught was a black clad elbow. Not exactly identifying. The letters were creepy, long and rambling things that explained how much he loved her, how they'd one day be together and how she would see that it was meant to be. The police dusted them for prints but nothing was in any of their databases. The tone of them was just too close to threatening for her Dad and the family discussed sending her away to school if the police couldn't protect her. Matters reached a head when he tried to break into her window while her family was away and she was stuck home sick. This time, the dog intervened, taking a chunk out of the guy's leg when he put it through her window. That was too close for comfort though and her Dad had additional security installed. The dog, Cerberus, was given many treats, although they were surprised, he'd never so much as growled at anyone before this. That had been in May. ♦ August third was when things reached their pinnacle. Mina was leaving school and heading over to a friend's house that was a mere block away. The contact from her stalker had stopped after the dog bite and she had begun to think things were going back to normal. Until that black car pulled up, running up on the sidewalk, clipping her friend (and breaking his leg). A man got out, tall, well-built, in his late 30s, clean cut, actually good looking but that was all beside the point. Mina ran for it, calling 911 on her cell for her friend as the guy tried to grab her. He was faster, knocked her to the ground and dragged her back into the car. That's when her powers appeared, leaving this asshole a 6" figurine on the ground and her sitting in a pool of her friend's blood screaming. The car had been filled with a grab bag of kidnapping goodies. ♦ Due to extenuating circumstances, Mina was not charged with a crime, even though she can't actually bring that guy back from being a figurine (or maybe a part of her psyche just doesn't want to). Everything else turns back on its own after a small amount of time. She's been practicing as she awaited the outcome of the investigation. She will be going to Xavier's as part of the agreement not to charge her. In the meantime, she has accidentally turned her brother into a figurine (it was during one of those explosive sibling fights) but he turned back the next day on his own, her attempts to fix it prior to it wearing off failed.
APPEARANCE
HEIGHT:
5'9
WEIGHT:
120
HAIR:
>waist length/multi
EYES:
green
MARKS:
nothing noteworthy
APPEARANCE:
Mina takes extremely great time, care and energy for her look. It's not standard, it's not what others might do, but she certainly puts effort into it. Her hair must always be perfect, no matter what color it is and though she often wears colored contacts for different looks, her naturally green eyes are still a little odd. She's tall, pale, curvy and poised, preferring nugoth clothing in the form of short dresses that flatter her small waist, cropped shirts and fitted pants, oversized sweaters with loose tattered weaves and stompy knee high boots.
PERSONALITY PERSONALITY: Mina is her own person. Yes, she likes dark and macabre things. Yes, she was raised in a fairly non-traditional home but she's generally a good person deep down. She's not going to kick your puppy or spit in your cereal. She's also not going to take your shit though and really has no interest in your self-absorbed drama. She's been bullied and frankly, she's over it. She knows she's attractive and doesn't need your approval or agreement. This isn't a phase. She isn't doing this for attention and she really has zero interest in your opinion on it. Like her dress, cool, her Amali made it, don't like her dress... that's okay but what's your point? Mina can be rather prissy when it comes to her hair and makeup being on point and she will happily talk about hair and makeup with anyone interested but that's also not her sole focus in life. Her emotions aren't something she displays openly to most people, though give her a reason and she'll give you a smile easily enough. LIKES: dark and macabre things, halloween, spooky fun, general creepiness, homemade spaghetti and garlic bread, hugs from friends, having her hair brushed, makeup tutorials, skincare routines, long hot baths, rom-coms though that's a secret, good ghost hunter type shows. DISLIKES: sunburns, bullies, stalkers, judgey people, the bad ghost hunter type shows where they try to 'provoke' shit.   NOTES: Believes in ghosts/spirits/shadowpeople. Believes ancient astronaut theories. Is not religious in any particular manner but believes there's a lot of things out there that she doesn't understand, that she can't understand. Likes the idea that we are all a part of this greater being, who tore itself apart to try to understand itself and the world around it, thus all connected. Rarely talks about this stuff though, doesn't want people to think she's crazy. Pretends not to care what others think of her.
mutation Primary: Figurine Creation: Mina has the ability to shrink any object from a working, moving, and in some cases breathing, thing into a nearly static figurine that will fit in the palm of her hand. Her figures are all at a 1:12 scale so anything that would be larger than she could easily carry she can't change. That means she won't be able to alter the mansion but she would be able to stick the blackbird in her backpack. The bigger or more intricate the item is the shorter the amount of time that she can maintain control of her figurine. A person is extremely complicated so she wouldn't be able to miniaturize them for more than a day. The more static the object the longer she can maintain without issue. A park bench she could probably keep miniaturized forever because it is unchanging, simple and small. A cat she could maybe keep for three to five days. Her ability to change the scale and her control over maintaining her figurines will grow stronger as she trains. One day, maybe she could put the mansion in her pocket but not today. So what happens to living beings when she puts them in a figurine state? Time dilation is the easiest answer, but really, she doesn't understand it. They seem to slow down to the point where they are almost complete statues but if you come back and look at them an hour later you can see that they've shifted position slightly. She's only done it twice and the one who came back from it told her that he didn't feel like more than ten minutes had passed, though it had been more than a day.

TAG I’m IT....K-DRAMA
I can’t think of any new questions so I’ll just answer the current ones
Thank you @belladonna2017 for tagging me.
If you could change one thing about one drama, what would it be? Hwarang Episode 19 and 20. Okay, that was two. I would definitely change the way it was edited. All the re-writes and flow of the storyboard in a film is done in the editing process. When Episode 18 closed out with SMJ taking the crown--the story shifted. So I was not surprised when E19 opened up with SMJ. This is Dog Bird’s story. Edit the film so it remains Dog Bird’s story. HOWEVER, the story had more urgency with the fact that AH RO just took a fricking gdamn arrow. WE all know SMJ wants and will take the throne. Go to the deeper stuff: LIFE and DEATH. IS AH RO breathing, is she ALIVE? I mean com’n if you aren’t going to pay attention to the heroine and hero, you just slapped the faithful and very concerned viewers in the face. AND all those scenes of the Queen and SMJ should have been on the editing floor or shortened by 20 minutes. Do these editors use counters to clock in screen time? They should. I did. (fun fact: SMJ doesn’t show up in E1 until the ending of the 11-minute mark). See where I am going with this. Oh, and the scene in E20 when Dog Bird tells the Princess, “You are a good woman.” WTF? This was the most dishonest dialogue and scene EVER! I am an intelligent viewer, do not take me for a fool. Like the famous saying goes: Don’t pee on my leg and then tell me it’s raining. AND AH Ro stays at home? She is not even a physician anymore in Hwarang House or a Wonwha or person LEADING in this Capital? And one, two, three...ranting over. That was actually very therapeutic. And I STILL love Hwarang.
Who is a popular actor that you can’t seem to get into?  I don’t really have one. Okay, I lie...Park Hyung Sik. Is that his name? I am awful. The guy who played SMJ in Hwarang. I loved him in Hwarang. Couldn’t watch him in Strong Woman.....etc... There’s no rhyme or reason to it. I still can’t figure out why.
What’s a popular drama that you didn’t like/dropped? Don’t hate me...but it was Scarlet Heart. I watched three or six episodes probably eight and everything was great. I loved the directing and the actors and the scenes were gorgeous. But within a few of those episodes while reading the film...I knew, pretty much everyone was going to die. So I did not invest. I know...my screen name is also: Captain Avoid Angst.
Underrated favourite drama? Hwarang. I really don’t think people saw how artful Hwarang was. It was definite textbook filming. And I mean beautiful textbook filming. There were so many scenes that flashed back and forth in poetry seamlessly. I keep meaning to gif them. (*cough* except E19 and E20). I am also watching Rebel: Thief of the People.  And it’s a beautiful all around display of how film works. There are so many scenes that I can just talk on and on about. The positioning of the one scene with his two young sons waving at him at the top of the hill. And their father having to travel far to find a new way of life for them. It had HONOR all over that scene. Visually showing how far a father will sacrifice to see his children rise in this life.
An actor/actress you wish would do dramas more often? Bae Doona. I first discovered Bae Doona by watching this amazing actress as part of the Sense 8 on Netflix. She is a STAR!  Her scenes show independence, strength and a lot of kick ass. There is so much honesty in her scenes that I believe and trust her every word and action. And she is FEARLESS!  And Sense 8 Season 2 comes out this Friday, May 5th. I recently read that she will be in a K-drama for TVn called Forest of Secrets. It’s been eight years since she’s been in a television drama. I CANNOT wait!
A guilty pleasure drama? I made a goal last year that guilt wasn’t going to be a part of my life. And I will never be guilted into doing or NOT doing anything. LOL So what's a show that I watch for pleasure? ANY that strikes my fancy. I have enjoyed: Father I’ll Take Care of You.
What drama would you say has the best ending? Hmmmmm....Age of Youth. Any ending that leads to a welcoming Season 2.
If you could crossover two (or more) dramas, what would they be? Age of Youth and Hwarang. A Coming of Age like you’ve never seen before.
Who is a female character that the fandom hated, but you loved? I am with Belladonna on this: Ah Ro in Hwarang. Most of this hate was unfounded. And heavy on alienation by the female audience. I have grown to love the actress who played Ah Ro, the lovely Go Ara. And I loved Ah Ro as a character. There is so much vulnerability that she shows in falling in love with someone. And the torment that comes because she believes she has fallen for her “brother.” What I don’t get is that the information of Dog Bird NOT being her brother is disclosed from the beginning. Yet the misplaced haters don’t understand her or want to understand her. If you are going to “hate” a female character in Hwarang (there were so few) then hate the Queen. The actress acted her butt off to hate her. Give the hate to the Queen. She earned it!
What’s your favourite fictional found family? Rebel: Thief of the People. Unbreakable bond.....I cry and cheer for them. The family they were born into and the family created by choice. I am really hoping that they take in one more member. Can you guess who? Okay, two. Although their family is a whole village and city. See how this theme of family grows as we connect with other human beings?
