I got motivated to draw this because I kept listening to Supercut by Lorde, their national anthem!!!! I personally like how this turned out!

DOAFP Week Day 5 ~ Favorite Character

I was having trouble choosing a favorite for today but Elena is just such a wonderful young woman and I think she deserves the whole world ☺️

1. Favorite episode: Stand Tall. This one is from last month - day seven of jatp week. I just had a lot of fun editing it, and I think it turned out nice!

2. It’s a whole...process. I drew this doafp comic a few months after season 1 as a way to appreciate Bobby’s gay storyline, and the process it took for him to figure that part of himself out. Not only am I really proud of the line art (particularly the first and second panels), but I think the use of the rainbow line - which I included to guide our eyes through the composition - was a nice touch. This is still one of my favorite fanarts I’ve done!

3. Nightime tennis court confession. This one is another Bobby/cartero comic, which I made for doafp appreciation week. I wanted to draw this moment for a long time, but I was always a little hesitant because I didn’t really know what it would look like? Plus, I have very little experience coloring dimly lit scenes. So this comic definitely took a while to get the colors right, and while it’s nowhere near perfect, I’m still really proud of this one - especially because it got me out of my comfort zone!

4. HSMTMTS lyric headers. I made this all the way back in January, which feels like forever ago. I designed each one in such a way that it either related to the lyrics themselves or the general vibe I got from the song. I really like what I did with the last two: I crossed out the word “old” and put stairs beside the word “new” to illustrate Nini’s first steps into her next venture. And for the last one, I illustrated dots and a heart ( . . . heart . . .) to illustrate Ricky and Nini’s love being brief and “just for a moment” in time, before they leave the stage and everything's back to normal. I had a lot of fun just thinking in terms of simple graphics, typography, and color.

5. Katara. This drawing is from my main blog, but I wanted to include it because I’m so proud of it. This was the first drawing I made on my new laptop, which meant that I couldn’t use the drawing program I normally used. Also I had to visualize how her character would look realistically (like, not as a cartoon) so that was a fun challenge. Her cheeks turned out redder than I expected haha, but I still really like this one :)

1. when you need somebody - my doafp/am/hsmtmts superhero au i’ve been working on for so long now lmao. i’m actually really proud of it, and i promise i will finish it (it’s slow-going, but it’s going). every kind comment means so much to me and motivates me to continue it <3

2. i started drawing recently? and i’m pretty proud of the drawings i made to go along with that au (andi & ashlyn and elena & her dad) (i might still have one more to post as well as some other unrelated drawings i’ve done. my favorite is probably the one i did of my rat tbh) i was kind of surprised at how much i’ve liked drawing because i’ve never really done that before or considered myself an artist, so we’ll see how that goes

3. i also started editing videos this year! I think i’m most proud of mine because it was the first one, but never grow up still hits pretty hard ngl. highkey, that was a lot of fun, and i want to do more now that i should have more time (may or may not have 2 unfinished videos rip)

4. there was like a week right at the beginning of quarantine where i wrote a bunch of doafp fics (god, that does not feel like this year), and i’m pretty proud of those (even though i also kind of feel bad for never getting to some of the requests i got around that time). honestly not sure i can pick a favorite (how many different versions of bobby coming out did i write? was i ok?)

5. and of course i have to mention my jatp fics because that show saved 2020. we stan the kenny ortega cinematic universe (kocu), and i wish i could say i can’t believe i managed to write a crossover between jatp and hocus pocus, but honestly, it’s exactly the kind of bullshit i would do, and it turned out surprisingly good? and of course home is where my horse is, named after the best song from jatp, because we stan reggie peters

bonus: my chyan fic that does not feel like i cannot believe i wrote in 2020 (though what can i expect when i started the year off by watching all three hsm movies by myself at my parents’ house?)

double bonus: the fic @penguin-writes-books and i are writing that is absolutely chaotic and fun and i love it so much already even though it’s far from done and we haven’t posted anything from it yet. yall haven’t met spencer or oklahoma and texas yet, but i would die for them

DOAFP Week Day 2 ~ Favorite Moments

“Grief isn’t just about death?”

“It can happen any time there’s changes, or when we’re scared of what might be next.”

I had a lot of trouble deciding on a favorite moment from this show, but ended choosing this moment between Elena and Gabi because of how it impacted me the first time I watched it, and how it helped me to understand a lot of what I was feeling in my own life. It just speaks so much to what a wonderful show this is, and though it is aimed at younger viewers even adults like me can take away new lessons when we watch it.
