I haven’t mentioned for a few weeks what a shit show crypto is. So let John Oliver do it far better than anybody else can.

I’ll just add is that the only value crypto has is the value that people think it has. As John Oliver put it, it’s totally based on “good vibes”. It’s essentially just digital play money that people buy with real money.  

One of the sketchy crypto characters John mentioned is Do Kwon. He is now in custody in Montenegro – nabbed while fleeing arrest by the authorities in the US and South Korea.

Corea del Sur podría aliarse con Estados Unidos para investigar crímenes relacionados con criptomonedas

El ministro de justicia de Corea del Sur, Han Dong-hoon, se reunió con agencias de investigación de Estados Unidos  en New York, este martes 5 de julio, en el contexto de las investigaciones independiente llevadas a cabo por ambos países con respecto a Terra  y a su co-fundador Do Kwon.El funcionario sustuvo conversaciones con Andrea M. Griswold, co-director del Grupo Especial para los Instrumentos Financieros y Materias Primas, así como con Scott Hartman, de la división de fraude de este último.

La reunión fue llevada a cabo en la oficial del fiscal del distrito sur de New York, de acorde a los datos publicados por Ministerio de Justicia sudcoreano. Los oficiales discutieron sobre maneras de compartir datos investigativos de los casos criminales relacionados con las criptomonedas  entre Seúl y la oficina del fiscal, según agregó la declaración oficial al respecto. Han también se reunió con oficiales del Buró Federal de Investigaciones (FBI, por sus siglas en inglés).

Los funcionarios acordaron elevar la cooperación en la lucha contra los crímenes financieros de índole transnacional tales como el ciber-crimen utilizando criptodivisas o ransomware. La oficina del fiscal del Distrito Sur de Seúl se encuentra actualmente investigan a Terraform Labs  y a su director ejecutivo Kwon Do-hyung, bajo posibles cargos de fraude, mientras que la Comisión para el Intercambio de Valores (SEC) está examinando la compañía por posibles violaciones de leyes federales.
