About Belur Math
Swami Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897.The Mission was to enable monks and laypeople to jointly undertake the propagation of Practical Vedanta, render various forms of social service.In early 1898, Swami Vivekananda set up at Belur one of the famous Ramakrishna Math.Belur Math is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, founded by Swami Vivekananda, the chief disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.It is located on the west bank of Hooghly River, Belur, West Bengal, India and is one of the significant institutions in Kolkata.
