Historical revisionism? Nah, this movie directed by Darryl Yap depicts the life of the Marcos family last 72 hours at the Malacañang Palace in 1986 before getting ousted and kidnapped then sent to Hawaii wherein they were held as hostages by the power and order of the newly elected President Cory Aquino. In this era, the EDSA People's Power Revolution is also held in protest alongside with the nuns and priests for the benefit of the country's democracy and freedom against whom they called a "dictator" Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

“Can you blame the woman for having emotions and reacting out of her emotions? No” - Diego Loyzaga

There are certain words and things that trigger memories of pain, betrayal, and hurt that I’ve experienced in the past. It’s a bittersweet journey down memory lane, but one that ultimately reminds me of how far I’ve come and how much I’ve grown.

Certain songs, places, and even everyday objects can transport me back to moments where I felt betrayed and wounded. It’s as if these memories are etched into my soul, leaving an indelible mark on my heart. The sting of betrayal and the ache of hurt are still palpable at times, but they no longer consume me as they once did.

Despite the pain of the past, I’ve learned to find solace in the fact that I am okay now. Time has been a gentle healer, gradually soothing the wounds and allowing me to move forward. I’ve embraced forgiveness, not for the sake of others, but for my own peace of mind. Holding onto resentment only serves to weigh me down, and I refuse to let the actions of others define my present or future.

Looking back, I can see how those experiences have shaped me into the person I am today. They’ve taught me resilience, strength, and the importance of setting boundaries. While I may still carry scars from the past, they serve as a reminder of my capacity to overcome adversity.

So, as I navigate through life, I choose to focus on the present moment and the possibilities that lie ahead. I may occasionally glance back at the past, but I do so with a sense of gratitude for the lessons learned and the growth that has ensued. I am okay now, and that’s all that truly matters.

The Prophet: Kalayaang Sikap sa Lipunang Mahirap

Kadalasan napupuno ang aking iskedyul sa iba’t ibang mga gawain sa paaralan kaya konti na lang ang mga pahina na nababasa ko araw-araw kahit na isa ito sa aking mga paborito na mga gawain. Umabot rin ito sa punto kung kailan mas gusto ko nang bumasa ng mga maninipis lamang na mga aklat. Nakita ko ang The Prophet na isinulat ni Khalil Gibran sa silid-aklatan isang araw. Agad akong naenganyo na basahin ito dahil marami naman akong naririnig na mga papuri tungo nito mula sa mga pinapanood ko na content creators sa YouTube.

Napupuno ang aklat ng mga maiikling tula ukol sa iba’t ibang aspekto ng buhay tulad ng kalayaan, pagmamahal, mga materyal na bagay, pagkakasal, lohika, at marami pang iba. Pumapatungkol ang aklat sa isang propeta na malapit na aalis sa isang isla na tinawag na Orphalese dahil babalik na siya sa kaniyang bayan. Bago pa siya makatapak ng paa sa barko, pinigilan siya ng mga mamamayan ng Orphalese upang mabigyan sila ng payo ukol sa mga malalaking mga tanong ng sangkatauhan. Hindi nakadiin sa mga pangyayari sa kuwento ang aklat sapagkat sumasaklaw sa isang buong araw lamang ang balangkas nito. Maikli lamang ang katha ngunit maraming napupuno ito ng mga makukulay at matalinhagang mga salita kaya nagustuhan ko ang mga deskripsiyon at pagtatalakay ng mga pilosopiko na mga paksa.

Isa sa mga paksa sa mga tula mula sa aklat ang kalayaan ng isang tao. Ayon kay Al-Khazraji (2014), isa sa mga pinakahalata na tema ng akda ang kalayaan, lalo na ang kalayaan mula sa mga inaasahan o mga pamantayan ng lipunan na mahirap matamo. Sinabi ni Almustafa, ang propeta, na nagiging tunay na malaya lamang tayo kapag hindi na natin ginagawang hangarin ang kalayaan, ngunit kailangan nating gamitin ating mga nais at pag-aalala tungo sa ibang mga bagay o tao sa mundo bilang gabay upang makamit ang kalayaan. Inihalintulad ni Gibran ang kawalan ng kalayaan sa mga kadena na pumipigil sa paggalaw ng isang tao. Maiuugnay ito sa takot o sa kawalan ng kapanatagan na maaaring dulot ng presyur mula sa mga social norms.

Lubos akong napahanga at napaisip sa mga talata na ito dahil ito ang lubos na bumibigay-diin sa mensahe:

Kahit na naenganyo ako sa paraan ng pagpapahayag ng pilosopikong diwa ng may-akda, may mga pagkakataon na sumosobra na ang mga mabulaklak na mga salita at nagiging pasikot-sikot ang nais ipahayag na punto. Ngunit, maaaring dulot ng aking kagustuhang personal bilang isang mambabasa na hindi mahilig sa mga akdang pilosopiko ang kritisismo na ito.

Nauugnay ang paksang kalayaan ng akda ang isang kontrobersiyal na pahayag sa vlog ni Toni Gonzaga mula kay Diego Loyzaga, isang aktor, tungkol sa pagkakasal (ABS-CBN News, 2023). Maituturing na isa sa mga pinakalaganap na social norm ang pagkakasal. Sinabi niya na papel lamang ang tingin niya sa pagkakasal. Habang hindi sumasang-ayon ang marami sa kaniyang opiniyon, wala naman silang magagawa kapag ang ganitong pananaw ang makapagpalaya sa aktor sa presyur mula sa social norms na walang kabuluhan sa kaniyang palagay.
