A beach on Denman island that is very difficult to get to, pebbled steep roads with no direction signs to guide through the journey. Beach’s name was amusing and the thought of taking a morning dip in the pacific, after two days of going without a shower, was ever more tantalizing. Someone at the cabin warned me to watch out for the 100-step staircase. Curious about whether they counted their steps, I carefully descended a narrow half steel half wooden staircase, which satisfyingly counted to exactly 100 stairs, and safely made it to the beach on a fine Monday morning in September. Having my bathing suit on, I quickly submerged in the water and unintentionally raised much mud to the surface. Flicking my hands to clear the mud, the favourite ring I had bought at the Saltspring island’s artisan market on saturday slipped out like a newly caught fish on a fisherman’s yacht. After many minutes of disappointments in myself, I miraculously found the ring among the muddy and bushy reefs with almost frozen fingers in the close to zero degrees waters (the kind that wakes you up without a coffee). Even though I wasn’t looking forward to the way back, the nippy bites on my fingers made my content stares at the horizon short-lived. I did make a long and weary trip back to the ‘down-town’ which has slightly more than an un-manned grocery stand. The story of reaching the park is in the park’s ancient guest log book, hidden away in a wooden box to protect it from the environmental calamities common in the region. These pictures and some etheric encounters with a few interesting island residents are souvenirs from the morning beach. One of the 4 parks on the island, bequeathed to the province by George Beadnell, whose grave is still on site. An island of now 1,165 residents was first inhabited by Indigenous peoples of Pentlatch and Sliammon as a summer home. The first foreign visitors were Spanish ship voyagers of 1791. Smallpox endemic wiped most of the indigenous peoples and the island was named in 1864 after Admiral Joseph Denman, commander of the Pacific station. Even though I made it to this magical land on foot, I will bow my head to you if you visit by any other means. #denmanisland #denmanislandlife #denmanislandphotographer #denmanislandbc #beautifulbritishcolombia #beautifulbcviews #seameetssky #fillongleyprovincialpark #fillongleypark #fillongleybeach #fillongleylife #fillongleyphotography (at Fillongley Provincial Park) https://www.instagram.com/noushinn/p/CXNIC3LlnHV/?utm_medium=tumblr

Once upon a time in a far away land, I dared to go off the beaten path under the radar and got to this gem of a place. #littleredridinghood #denmanisland #denmanislandbc #denmanislandlife #denmanislandphotographer #denmanislandlove #beautifulbc #beautifulbcviews #rockphotography #ancientrocks #beachvibes #rocksrock #beatenpath #unbeatenpath #robertfrost #theroadnottaken (at Denman Island, British Columbia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXQDgPZraCx/?utm_medium=tumblr
