This week’s episode of “Pennyworth”, 3.4, was great!!! :D Had me cracking up at times and part of it reminded me of the 60s “Batman” show. LOL Some unexpected twists too including that ending which I won’t spoil except to say that we’re getting a crossover with another DC title that I never thought of.

‘Why are we doing this again, Dave Boy?’ Hannah asked the already tipsy Scotsman. He was the only one of the quartet of ex-soldiers close to her. Barty and Alfie were talking to an American – though, both of them seemed to be keeping an eye on the room the whole time – and Bazza was actually trying to make it look like they were working, like there wasn’t an ulterior motive to them being at the club.

Dave Boy downed the last of his drink, put the glass firmly on the bar. ‘You need to know how to protect yourself.’

With great restraint, Hannah didn’t question why Esme wasn’t there then; she didn’t remind him that she already knew how to do just that. Whatever was going on around them all was startling the lads more than they cared to admit. And, she knew exactly why Esme wasn’t being put through her paces. Alfred wanted her to have no part in all this. He probably would’ve preferred it if she’d taken that route too, but there was no way Hannah was sitting this out; she refused to be pushed aside. If they were going to throw themselves into danger, those she cared about the most, then they weren’t leaving her behind this time.

Instead, she asked, ‘And we’re training here?’

‘No better place, Han,’ said Alfie in lieu of a greeting. He clapped Dave Boy amicably on the shoulder and lent on the bar to her left. Barty took his usual, protective, place just behind her. ‘Right in the thick of it.’

Hannah scoffed, span in her seat so she could look at her brother and the man she’d grown up with a little better. Barty’s face was carefully blank; Alfred’s eyes glinted almost mischievously as he cast her a sidelong look.

‘You’re serious?’ she asked, unable to keep the scepticism from her voice.

‘Apparently so,’ grumbled Barty.

‘Not the right thick of it, mind,’ said Alfred as she stood, feeling somewhat dwarfed by the others. ‘But you can -’

‘No takesies-backsies, Pennyworth,’ she told him firmly.

‘You sure about all this?’ Bazza asked calmly as he passed, his attention lingering on her momentarily.

Hannah scanned the club, the rowdiness bubbling up near some tables obvious. There was no real telling where the danger hid though, where it might come from. She had to be prepared; refused to be slighted merely because she was a woman and all the biases that came with it.

A man winked, his smile tinged with something that made her skin crawl.

Hannah looked to the four men she trusted beyond doubt, and spoke two words with all the conviction she could muster: ‘I’m sure.’

have you watched the Pennyworth show?

I'm trying to work my way through it, it's really not my type of show but I will persevere 🫡 its growing on me honestly, I'm starting to really like the guy they got to play alfred. I think he does a good job. Plus I like Daveboy and Bazza, I'd love to see more mention of them in comics (even though that 100% won't happen lol)

I love Pennyworth so much:

Alfred is wonderful - he’s polite, he’s violent, he’s perfection

Daveboy and Bazza are great and together with Alfred they’re the perfect trio

I also super love that their ptsd (and Alfred’s trauma in general) plays such an important role in the show

Thomas and Martha are spies for some reason?

Thomas Wayne looks like the guy from Edgar Allan Poe’s Invite-Only Murder Mystery Dinner Party/Gala for Friends

Kaz Brekker is there playing a grade-a asshole

Alfred’s hair is ridiculous

Now I've seen 3.10, couple of points about the Pennyworth S3 finale.

The sequence in the beginning where various characters almost drink the milk in their tea and then don't was hilariously classic suspense building

Sandra being 1000% done with Alfred's shenanigans and nvm the crowd of people high on the lullaby drug who want to kill her, she wants to have it out

Martha and Thomas' entire conversation with Thomas wondering why can't we just go back to being a normal family again and Martha pointing out because they're not, they're a f*cked up family and then both of them just give up and roll with it. They are f*cked up, but very loving.

Martha determined to go save Lucius Fox

Aziz unofficially telling Martha not that he would condone this but if some independent party (and he has no idea who that would be) were to go to Level 7 to save Lucius Fox he would not be completely miserable about it.

the blue P-Dub doing karaoke to Staying Alive was not on my bingo card

Sandra and Alfred are adorable. I hope nothing awful happens to Sandra. Maybe they have a good relationship for a while, then bicker, and part ways, and then Alfred winds up in Gotham without Sandra.

Bet leading the slomo hero-run of the p-dubs. 10/10 would watch again

The doubledecker escaping London bus full of p-dubs and assorted pub people stopping outside the Waynes to collect them. Lunacy.

Daveboy's better qualities are showing more and more. He is smart, and he is brave. I can see why Alfred relies on him.

Aziz and Thursday's unhinged back and forth via the red phone. I don't think Aziz is really gone.

“Pennyworth” is back for season 3 and I just finished watching the premiere!!! :D It’s off to a good start and I’m going to post this behind a cut for spoilers. Will watch the other 2 eps likely tonight or tomorrow and will post more after that. Can tell with the switch to HBO Max it seems like the budget when up as it looks different but could also be the 1972 peacetime setting.

I like how it skipped 5 years ahead and things have changed for all the characters. Alfred’s running his own private detective like agency with Dave Boy, Bet, and others like Lucius, Thomas is fully a doctor, and Martha is working for the government still. We got Bruce’s older sister’s name and it’s Samantha. This is totally new for most of the Batman comics, shows, and movies I know and very curious what is going to happen to her as there’s so many options. It’s a given they’ll still have Bruce at some point but will something tragic happen to Sam too or will she become Batgirl/Batwoman? :) I also loved the shoutout to Barbara Gordon/Batgirl as Martha’s cover identity is as a similar librarian. Also interesting choice with Bet taking that baby Julie as that name is close to Alfred’s own  daughter Julia in other storylines.  Then Virginia, the lady Thomas’ dad Patrick is with, reminds me so much of Amanda Waller!!! :D Excited to watch the other 2 eps up and to see where this goes as the season goes on.

YES!!!!!! Anon, I am so terribly sorry for not replying to this WAY sooner. I'll admit I have a bit of mixed feeling for this season but I am excited and am now trying to update the blog/clean it up in time for the new season.

I love Daveboy and not one damn thing terrible better happen to him this season I swear to god.

I was really thinking about it and I don't know what everyone is going to do this season, as it seems like a madhouse and Bazza was literally the only one with all his braincells in the group (he was literally the alfred of the trio). But it's a good thing they've got Martha doing what she does and kicking ass.

I hope to be posting more gifs from the trailer soon!!
