She’d always wished she could understand people who looked forward to holidays--a family gathering, all of them in one place, under one roof, around one table, like it was a good, welcome thing? Impossible. When your mothers tried to raise you in the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, an easy Thanksgiving was off the table. It would have been so much easier to cut contact with them entirely. (And she had, for a while. It had helped. A lot.) But it wasn’t that easy, because nothing was easy, was it? Mystique was a certified card-carrying supervillain, but she was her mother. Rogue hated them, but she loved them. She’d tried to break the ties years ago, and still they’d come back.
If only it had been easy.

Rogue knocked on the door and ducked her head inside. “Hey, Mama,” she said. “Heard you were looking for me?”

“Oh goodness, excuse me?” Brainy shook their leg, a little rudely, staring at the cat who had decided now was a perfect time to latch it’s claws into Brainy’s new slacks, “This wouldn’t by any chance be your creature making a home here?”

“it’s really great to get to know you better,” sam says, sidling up beside raven. “sticking together through this, it’s important, you know? and i appreciate your willingness to meet with me and all that. i know what it’s like to not be accepted by folks, no matter how proud you are of yourself. makes it harder to reach out.”

hela can count on one hand the number of people she likes on this planet  —  and raven is on that list  .  the shapeshifting mutant is both interesting  &  willing to murder shitty rich men  ,  which is a double-win in hela’s books  .  she sits opposite raven with a smile  ,  immediately starting to speak  :  “  so i met this man the other day  —  real jerk  ,  had the audacity to tell me to smile more  —  and he wouldn’t shut up about how much he hated mutants  ...  what do you say we go freak him out a little before stabbing him  ?  ”

Mary brushed down her skirt as she glanced around at the decorations that were spread throughout the room. She wouldn’t lie, it vaguely reminded her of an upgraded high school dance, but in like a good reminiscent way, and less of gaudy, twerking sort of way.
She looked at the person she was currently with, Raven she believed was her name. She had, in her mind foolishly, filled out the matchmaking survey on a whim. Call it a momentary lapse of judgement, or maybe it was the romantic in her that felt like this was the perfect beginning of a hallmark. No matter what it was though, she was here, and determined to have fun. She glanced back at Raven, before steeling herself to begin a conversation.
“They really went all out with the decorations, didn’t they?”

darkhvlmes asked: 🍌  -   is my muse inclined to help others,  or will they only do it when it benefits them,  if at all?  what makes them this way?  has it ever gotten them into trouble,  or inconvenienced them?
sam is an extremely community-driven and caring person. he tries to see the best in everyone, tries to work through what they’re going through, and calls people in. he’s not a pushover, though. he doesn’t take people’s bigoted nonsense, but he’ll help anyone whether it benefits him or not. in fact, usually when it doesn’t - he’s not always concerned with what affects him; he strives for equity in all areas, for everyone who deserves it.
it’s something he learned from growing up with such an involved family, be that in their town or neighbourhood or the church. his parents taught him and his siblings how to foster community care, and how to love in all ways. and because of that, his community has always had his back, too.
as for trouble...sam decided to help steve rogers and went to jail, became an international fugitive, and quite literally lost his life for him. and that’s only one example of some of the costs he’s had to endure !
🥭  -   how important to my muse is their hometown,  or where they’re from?  are they proud of it,  or considered a hometown hero? did they move away,  or do they wish to?
sam considers both harlem and delacroix to be his hometowns. they carry different significance in being the place where he was little and where he came into himself. sam has a lot of pride for both places, but especially delacroix. it’s a small community of such kind, lovely people that carries so much cultural ties for him. he’s definitely considered a hometown hero; his community is so proud of him !! they always have been !
as for moving away, sam’s left a few times before - from harlem not by choice but with the rest of his family, then from delacroix to go to college, join the air force, to work in d.c., then having to be on the run. it’s never really because he wanted to, sometimes things just got too suffocating, too painful with the memories of his dead parents, of his struggles. he’s always had a deep and passionate love for his hometowns, it’s remained a key constant, especially when he was overseas and so, so homesick.
