If a tree fell in the woods and no one was around to see it happen, then did a teenage girl really kick it down?

Well, whatever bullshit rhetorical, philosophical question that was would have to wait, because Van Palmer had just caught Faith in the midst of felling a particularly sturdy tamarack tree all by herself. They needed more firewood but Faith kept getting put on laundry duty. She was burning precious slayer fuel just sitting around and doing the domestic -- without much to slay out here, her muscles were just aching for release. So she volunteered to do the firewood by herself. Or rather, volunteered herself without much of a heads up to the group, taking an axe and mobilizing. No wonder Palmer wandered her ass in search of their wannabe Voorhees.

"It, uh, I think this one had a lotta wood rot," Faith immediately lied as the dust settled around the fallen tree. Cursory inspection would prove her statement to be false -- the tree was healthy and weeping from the severed fibers. "Yeah, the base was real flimsy and honestly, it was bound to fall any time -- lucky it wasn't on one of us."

She was so not going to tell her teammates now that she had superpowers (and a wicked metabolism that was going to outpace their own hungers come winter).
