the ending with gerry makes me so sad...

and i'm trying to understand WHy he would give away dale's secret. i can't remember the gossip columnist's name but even if gerry had stopped her from talking about him by trading the story about dale, the story had still broken, and people still heard about it in other ways. he hurt himself by crossing dale and losing his biggest ally. if he could've stayed on the desk, maybe he could've weathered the pr storm... but then again, the gossip lady probably had a lot of material about gerry from throughout the years, and was going to really expose him, and he had literally no hope.

(edit: original post below, but the more i think about it, it really seems like gerry DIDN'T betray dale so 😭)

so it must have been gerry who told the gossip column about dale, because of his threatening tone when he told dale about the arrest, and it's the only thing that really makes sense. but gerry seemed so genuinely surprised and upset when he showed up at the studio :(

i know gerry saying "i would do the same for you" was a threat and not a genuine sentiment. but he really did say that to dale and then turn around and do the complete opposite, opening dale up to the exact same scrutiny he'd asked for help to avoid 😭

im going to have to believe that the expose would've been so bad, it would've ruined gerry and his whole family's lives forever basically. and this turned out to be the best outcome, with gerry and dale trading up stories to minimize their exposure. cause otherwise it's like gerry just tried to ruin dale's career for no reason and ended up ruining his own for good and also destroying a rlly nice friendship :( they were such good friends

Dalegerry, to me, is like that Dylan Moran gag where he's like protestants can see a plate of biscuits eat one and go "its just a bikkie" and walk away, whereas Catholics will eat the whole plate and feel shame the whole time. Except instead of bikkies it's gay sex. And Dale still feels ashamed, it's just Gerry (who also definitely still feels shame too) is so used to growing up feeling shame about everything he can override it now.
