made it through the first week!!

#had a not so great day and spent most of my evening crying so I almost didn’t write #but I knew I would feel even worse if I didn’t so I sucked it up and got some words down #but hey 7 days of consistently writing 1000+ words?? that’s p solid #hoping tomorrow is a lot better and that’s today’s Events won’t put a damper on the rest of the week :/#if not maybe I will set aside an hour or two to draw and listen to podcasts to help ✨escape✨#was hoping writing would be a good enough distraction but the thing about writing #..is that you’re thinking the whole time #and when you’re thinking.. well ! you end up getting stuck in your head and spiraling. as one does #what sucks is that I had a lot of extra time today that could’ve gone towards writing #but I was so upset I just ended up sleeping and moping #also I haven’t drawn in like a week and I’m not happy about it :/#anyway the portion of scene 5 that I’ve written isn’t too bad. I’m enjoying the dynamic of the two mcs so far #dahl does nano 23

i finished the first scene of the main wip for the month and dumped some ideas for a fic! have mixed feelings about the initial scene I drafted but I’m not letting myself think too much about it, all that matters is that I’m getting words down

all towards the main wip!! I was v lucky to crank out these words within the last hour of the day LMAO I averaged like 450 words per 20min sprint and ngl im kinda impressed B-) I think knowing no one will be reading this anytime soon has made it much more freeing to write so far (unlike fics which take me forever to draft bc of Fear people won’t like it)

also finished the second scene, which is very exciting!! I expect the story will get a bit harder to write from here but by golly I will do it

kinda bullied myself today to write more to make up for the little I wrote yesterday. Wrote 1.5 scenes today, I’m now halfway through scene 7!

#out of 32 scenes btw #the writing has not been going well #the words were not wording it was so hard i wanted to bury myself in the dirt #scene 6 especially is such a flop #but I kinda brute forced it today and I think moving forward I need to break it up more #I don’t usually like having such long writing sessions #feelin super unimaginative it sucks big time #like this week sucked a lot and I’m so tired and lowkey wanna die but like. at least I wrote lol #main wip has surpassed 13k so there’s that #I should be way more excited abt that but :/#anyway hoping tomorrow is better #dahl does nano 23

i finished the third scene of cryptids wip which is great but also it was kind of a drag to write :/ Not too happy with how it turned out but it’s a starting point. On the bright side, I’m officially 5k into the story! a little short if I’m trying to write 50k exclusively towards the novel, BUT i have 8k *overall* which *is* on track for the 50k ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

but again, we’re not worrying about that (<— is starting to worry about it)

#it feels too early to get hit with ‘this idea kinda sucks’ energy but that’s kinda where I’m at lol #i do love the premise so so much tho so I WILL do it justice #i think rn I’m just not being patient enough with my characters #Idk I’m complaining but I really am having fun #this is just how it goes #and honestly it’s kinda invigorating to be going through the process of a first draft #Im excited to see it go through the many tedious stages #the fic on the other hand… yeah I’m in overthinking hell with that one #oh whale #anyway !#dahl does nano 23 #five days strong babey !!!

I didn’t realize how many days had gone by without updating lol but it’s fine bc it’s not like anyone’s really keeping track

anyway it’s v apparent I’m not hitting the 50k BUT IT’S OKAY! I’ve made peace with it. It was p dumb of me to start the month going “I just wanna write as much as I can” bc obv I was setting myself up for disappointment. So if I’m able to reach just 30k on my main wip, I’ll be happy.

Also patting myself on the back for reaching +25k, I think the 30k will be v feasible with the remaining 5 days. That’s <1k a day!

Also finished the 12th scene! We’re over a third of the way through the project :D (which admittedly is around where I hit my typical story middle slump, but I’m hoping I can remain consistent after November)

#also abt the 50k. I posted a fic too so that’s worth celebrating #I’ve written a lot I’m def not discrediting that #plus those extra 20k words are gonna get written regardless just not within this month it’s fine #I’m expecting this project to be ~75-80k #so there’s gonna be plenty left to do after November anyway #scene 13 is a Big Emotional scene so I hope I don’t flub it up #but I’m excited for it I think it’ll be good. I’ve had ideas for this scene in particular for a while #so its crazy that I’m finally writing it #I def feel like this entire story has been a HOT mess so far #mostly bc these characters have been living in my head for so long that I keep forgetting the gradual progression of their development #I feel like I keep skipping significant moments in their growth bc I’m so used to how they’re /supposed/ to be #but it’s cool. I never expected a lot of this draft to be solid anyway but what matters is that it’s something to work with!!#also feel like it jumps around a lot. like the flow between scenes isn’t entirely clear #and that’s mostly bc I don’t wanna write scene connectors rn lol #but that’s always something I can grumble and groan about later #dahl does nano 23

my main priority was finishing scene 9. which I did! I’m a bit clueless as to how scene 10 is gonna go, and I’m too tired to think abt it rn so that’s tomorrow’s problem lol

Officially halfway through nano!! Total word count is 21174, leaving me ~4k short from the goal. I’m hoping I can pick up the pace a bit next week. I keep telling myself that it’s fine if I don’t hit the 50k and I know it’s fine if I don’t. But being short 4k kinda stings lol. Like it’s right there. ah well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ we still have 15 days who knows what’ll happen

finished scene 8 and started scene 9!! was worried about how scene 9 was gonna go, but I’m liking how it’s turning out. It’s a pretty short one, so I should be able to finish it up p quick, and I already have an idea for how i’ll do that B-)

finished scene 7! It started off really shaky and I’m still very iffy about it but I was at least able to end it with a better vision in mind than what I started with. The scene itself, despite being nearly 2k words, is still p skeletal so I’ll have to beef it up later

finished scene 4!!! Wasn’t expecting that esp bc I was extremely reluctant to write it. It started off strong, then got away from me for a bit, but I think I wrapped it up okay ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I’m just happy I broke 2k today, it feels extremely rewarding B-)

was hoping to get more fic writing done today but alas… maybe tomorrow

day 2

Total Word count: 1689; 1421 towards a fic, and 268 towards my main wip

Did a lot of handwriting so I wasn’t able to see exactly how much I wrote until I typed it up today (hence the late update)

day 3

Total Word count: 1603; 901 towards a fic, and 702 towards my main wip

I did two sprints towards my main wip and got ~350 words for both 20min sprints, im kinda proud of that ngl

I’m making steady progress and for the most part on track for that 50k which is kinda neat! (still not what I’m going for tho so i can’t let it get to my head lol)

but overall I’m feeling really good so far I’m excited to see what I accomplish tomorrow :D

I’m almost finished with tough scene #10! I thought I was finished with it tonight but then I came up with another idea to add to it, so I’ll do that tomorrow. It started off super rocky but something clicked Friday night and the words flowed a lot easier! Cant say it’s amazing but I’m glad it went a lot smoother than I anticipated.

anyway I’m just really happy I got out of that weird rut AND I hit 20k. The next scene is also kinda exciting and is the real start of all the horror aspects of the story so it should be fun :D let’s just hope this streak continues and we don’t have any more sub 1k writing days

almost done with scene 8! It went a lot better than I expected so I’m content with the progress even if I didn’t get to write as much as I would’ve liked. Though that limited writing is more due to not having time than struggling with words lol if it’s not one it’s the other unfortunately .—.

but hopefully I carry this energy into tomorrow’s writing session :D

#also drew my characters again today #which was partically the reason why i had less writing time #*partially #but it was much needed. sketchbook time keeps me sane #i need that balance #it was nice I’m quite fond of them #still figuring out how to draw them but maybe one of these days I’ll share some sketches who knows #anyway I’m really tired #cant believe we’re already nearly halfway through the month that’s criminal #ALMOST HALFWAY AND IM 10k OFF FROM THE GOAL #big yikes #i said I wasn’t gonna worry about it but my hopes have gotten too high and now I’m worrying about it #dahl does nano 23 #ok technically that’s a lie. I’m like 6k off the mark which is better than 10k but still not great #can I make that up during my time off??? idk #i think it’s funny that 50k will probably only get me like 2/3 of the way through the story tho…#BUT after November the hustle will slow down so I can take my time with writing and finish some time in January #anyway none of this matters rn
