Modified Snakifications from the legendary "Daddy Cakelegs" Bugsnak!

Remaking the body texture was tricky but rewarding. I replicated the sprinkles from the original texture as a collection of meshes scattered across a base grumpus mesh with geometry nodes, then baked it into a flat texture with the grumpus model's UV layout. From there, it was a lot of tweaking in GIMP. I've done something similar with a few of the other body textures I've remade.

Next up will be Baby Cakelegs, which is similar but also gives me the texture of a layered cross-section of a cake to work with!

This next post is gonna be the Daddy Cakelegs infection. I was a bit more creative with this one. I like this one more.

This is the Daddy Cakelegs infection. This infection makes the infected quite large, about 20 feet tall (I don’t know exactly how tall the actual Daddy Cakelegs is so if I’m wrong I’m okay with you correcting me). It gains the lower body of a cake and the legs of 8 candles in a spider-like fashion. It has candles on its back and candle-like fingers and burnt candle sticks in place of claws and Its mouth is split to make it larger.

This infection gives the infected the ability to burrow underground, light things on fire with its candles, throws needle-sized candles like spears which, when it hits a grumpus, burns them from the inside out, it can throw frozen ice cream scoops at grumps to freeze them and summon pillars and spikes of ice.

The Daddy Cakelegs infected grump stays in one place which is a large, abandoned building which is covered in ice pillars and spikes which claim its territory.

I might add more info or maybe change the design later on but I’m not sure yet. Also, I hope you like this

DADDY CAKELEGS

Here we are! The last of the 100 Bugsnax, and fittingly, the very last one I ever caught in game! Even more fitting is that today is the one year anniversary of the release of Bugsnax! Happy birthday, Bugsnax! And thank you and congratulations to Young Horses for such a fun, sincere, and wonderful game! Here is Bugsnax’s birthday cake, and it is a whole guy!

Daddy Cakelegs lurks within the lower cave of Frosted Peak, though “lurk” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here, because he is really just sleeping under a mound of snow. There is no sign of him actually existing until you enter with Snorpy, when there will be a Suspicious Candle sticking out! What happens if you light it?

He will get angry, that’s what! That was kind of rude. Daddy Cakelegs will use his Ice Powers to summon ice pillars and march within them, but these can be used against him, to connect a flaming Trip Shot, which will light his other two available candles. Because he hates that! This whole battle is really just about bothering this poor guy. Sorry, Daddy Cakelegs! It’s Games!

With both candles lit, Daddy Cakelegs will shed his bottom layer, which will break into Babies, and drill elsewhere on the mountain. If the babies are left alone, they will lead you right to his new location! And here, he has a new attack, and WOW this is one of the most ridiculous things in the game. And I see no one talk about this! Daddy Cakelegs will, using his green legs as arms, use part of one leg as a GUN, which he will hold, aim, and use to fire ice cream at you! He even closes his top right eye for better aim! It happens so quickly, but it is an incredible thing to witness. One of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen. Awesome!

In his third and final phase, with just one small body segment, Daddy Cakelegs is looking much more like an actual Opiliones! Here, only one candle on top must be lit until he admits defeat and shrinks into his catchable form, but he is more agile than ever, even climbing on the side of the mountain like Chippie. Once he is caught though, that is that!

With that, each of the original 100 Bugsnax has received its own post, in time for the first birthday of Bugsnax! This blog is not over, though it will no longer update daily, I still have stuff to talk about, especially when the Isle of Bigsnax releases next year!
