i'm seeing people theorize that gilear is somehow figs new patron but i'm gonna suggest the exact opposite. fig is an arch devil. she could absolutely give someone some incredibly basic warlock spells (the kind that would be perfect for someone who doesn't actually want to be powerful in any real, meaningful way) and it makes sense that a warlock pact is at least somewhat symbiotic between the warlock and the patron.

and i could absolutely see fig being hesitant to draw on any power for fear of how it would affect gilear. especially since she probably would have made this deal in hopes of making it so gilear could protect himself anyways. but the rest of the bad kids being in danger is the exact sort of extenuating circumstance that would convince her to draw on this magic for the first time.

Watching the scene with Gorgug & Porter was so interesting to me because I felt like… sure, Porter crossed a line in terms of what was appropriate but I also get it. He’s not wrong to feel devastated that a gifted student doesn’t appreciate his class.

I’ve been on the receiving end of it. I had multiple members of the languages department LITERALLY coming up to me in the corridors or in the lunch queue over a number of months to beg me to do German A Level and I ended up caving because I could tell it was because it was personally important to them (also I figured if I did multiple languages maybe MI6 would offer me a job because I am and always have been a wild fantasist).

And yeah, it makes sense, because I was the best in the year, and my disinterest was hurtful to them, because if I didn’t want to do something I was naturally and easily good at, why? Was it that I didn’t like THEM, specifically?

I get it. Your life, your education and employment history, is all geared around your subject. Your vocation and training is to share it with children. And then a child says, essentially, “The subject you love, which comes so easily to me, I do not care about. The work you do, which fills your life and takes all your energy, I do not want part of.”

Of course it’s upsetting! I think teachers are allowed to feel that way! The problem comes when they externalise that and make it the child’s problem. And that’s where my German teachers, and my Chemistry teacher, and Porter, went wrong.

I'm really struggling to follow along with FH:JY for some reason, so I'm rewatching everything in the hopes that something starts to click in my brain and. I'm not insane because Cassandra and Kalina literally did NOT make it clear that Kristen should have been at the mall with them and I can't decide if it was a genuine misunderstanding between Brennan and Ally or if it's somehow plot relevant.

see i still have questions about the existence of mcr and fob in the fantasy high universe.

fall out boy exists. canonically, pete wentz is 17 years old, making andy hurley 16, and joe trohman + patrick stump 12. so the earliest album they could have out is eowyg, or tttyg at the LATEST. (bc clearly, they’re popular enough to have made an impact in the emo/pop punk/alternative scene, so much so that fig brings up pete’s name as an attempt to show ruben how #cool and #emo wanda childa is)

what does this say about mcr? its unclear if my clerical gnomance is (in universe) directly copying mcr, or if they (ruben + his band) came up with the name. if it’s the latter, that means that we’re looking at a world where mcr doesn’t exist, but fob does.

i’m somehow more confused if it’s the former. mcr existing means that 9/11 happened (or an equivalently traumatic event happened in Solace), but also. the logo used for Ruben’s band is the one mcr used for the black parade. so does that mean that mcr is 3 years ahead of fob? how old would they be then? when did they start their career? who is letting all these teenagers start bands and have nation wide tours????

does this mean that fig & the cig figs potentially toured alongside mcr/fob? (or. ok. ik F&tCF is a heavy metal band. mcr and fob both lean more towards pop-punk/rock but. surely they’d both be AWARE of each other?)

these could all be called plot holes, sure, if this was anything other than a role-playing dnd comedy campaign. so you know. maybe i’m the one who’s putting too much thought into a few off-hand comments.
