Kiku doesn't remember if Kiku posted about Kiku's white cane here or not. But this is Angel. ☺️
Tumblr media
Angel is a pink Ambutech graphite slimline folding cane with the handle covered in pink ducktape because Kiku couldn't handle the feeling of the foam handle and a rolling marshmallow tip. Kiku also has non-rolling marshmallow tips but prefers the rolling marshmallow tip. Kiku takes Kiku's cane when goes anywhere out of the house and it helps a lot.
Kiku also applied to the National federation of the blind's free white cane program so Kiku will have a backup but it hasn't arrived yet. It will be a rigid (non folding) plain white cane with a black handle and a metal glide tip.
Kiku eventually wants to get a regular (non slimline) version of Angel and a rigid version to see how they are different.

like say is really not sure exactly how bad some of problems is or if would fall under this CVI , but , think really nice to have this list and links because do struggle with and need strategy for some these … and already use some these strategies , especially with visual clutter . oops . good things to know .
( as say with intellectual disability , relate to some points do not mean have , there is some overlap with autism and sensory problems in general but also deeper nuance . still , here in this case , know help personally have better words for some problems , and strategies too . visual process trouble is visual process trouble , just not think all definitely is CVI . )

I've been thinking a lot about how my ocular head postures and odd visual behaviours were punished throughout my life.
I was told off for lying my head flat against a book to read or write neatly, or resting my head against my shoulder so I could see my teacher better. I would fiddle with objects without looking at them so I had a good understanding of what they were, and my teachers hated that. I was told off for overreaching and knocking things over, and for tentatively reaching and coming up short.
The amount of times I got yelled at because I couldn't find an object in a clutter of other objects is uncountable. But I would get yelled at more for marking important objects with yellow so I could find them easier.
There were so many signs I couldn't see properly growing up, and all of my adaptations were punished. I didn't get accomodations because despite constantly struggling and being bruised and exhausted and crying from stress nobody bothered to believe me when I talked about my vision. All the ways I tried to accommodate myself were swiftly put down because I didn't behaviour normal or sighted enough for them.
I wonder what my life would have been like if I'd gotten help.

July is Disability Pride month!
Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) is a type of bilateral visual impairment which is caused by damage to the brain rather than damage to the eyes. It is diagnosed when children show abnormal visual responses that aren't caused by the eyes themselves
Did you know? Adults can also develop problems with their vision after a traumatic brain injury (such as a head injury or stroke that damages the brain). Veterans may be at higher risk for visual problems as a result of combat injuries.
These problems are sometimes called acquired CVI,  but it isn’t the same as CVI. A brain injury that happens later in life usually has different symptoms than CVI, which is caused by an injury early in life.

thyroid cyst alcohol
Thyroid cyst alcohol ablation is a medical technique in which alcohol is injected into a thyroid cyst to reduce or eradicate it. This minimally invasive procedure is widely used to treat benign thyroid cysts that produce symptoms such as swallowing or breathing difficulties. The alcohol injection causes a controlled inflammation in the cyst, which eventually leads to its collapse and absorption by the body. This operation is regarded as a safe and effective alternative to surgery for the treatment of thyroid cysts, offering relief from related symptoms while avoiding the risks associated with surgical intervention.

Kiku is moving very soon. And it is scary but also exciting.
One of the things Kiku is planning on doing after Kiku loves is making a CVI friendly calendar/schedule. It's probably gonna be tactile as well as visual, but Kiku isn't exactly sure how Kiku is going to do it. Kiku is excited though. ☺️
