this may be cringe and fail, but my ridiculous headcanon backstory for our good ol’ five-eyed ichthyophiliac wizard pal is that of some halcandran dancer twins. whose souls possessed a pair of powerful ancient artifacts intended to be used as conduits for craftswitch magic. akin to the Power Paintbrush

it would explain their design (vaguely resembling feline ears / hoods, respectively), proximity to Magical Things, their hatred for bells, love of fish, penchant for playing with yarn and ripping important fabrics apart.
