My Pokémon fan theories.

1: “Ash” is just a nickname, his actual first name is “Satoshi.” (This is partially canon because ash is actually called satoshi in the Japanese dub)

2: “Gary” is also a nickname, and his real name is shigeru, -after Shigeru miyamoto, creator of super Mario and legend of Zelda.- (once again; partially canon because that’s what he’s called in Japan) and he’s only called “Gary” because he tried to say his own name once as a toddler, and that’s what it sounded like.

3: part of the reason ash wants to be a pokemon master so much is because he wants to be like his older cousin red tajiri.

4: Red and ash are cousins -the relation is on ash’s mother’s side hence the differing last names-

5: Red’s last name is tajiri -after the pokemon francises creator Satoshi tajiri, this is also where ash’s Japanese name came from-

6: part of the reason Gary originally* wanted to be a pokemon master is because he wanted to be like his older brother blue.

7: ash is half mew, this would explain his ability survive things that would ordinarily be fatal, and come back to life multiple times in the event he does die, as well as his ability to wield aura, and the fact that he almost effortlessly picked up and threw a log that weighed almost 1400 pounds.

this one is building off of the last theory;

8: because mew and mewtwo are based on cats I’m assuming they purr, and -since he is half mew- so does ash.

*in episode 272 of the original series “johto photo finish” Gary decided to become a researcher like professor oak, instead of a trainer, and later on is shown to have become an assistant to professor Rowan in sinnoh.
