w. drystan baratheon, day three of the riverlands gathering, @gcldenblades
Tumblr media
alys' report works wonders as both distraction and actual update, but there is only so much words can prepare lynara for when the competitors of the melee begin to be released from the field to the healing tents. some of them seem to forgo it altogether — the stark notices, close to the flap as she remains, as the men prefer to walk away, but the shining shock of blonde hair that comes their way is altogether recognizable, even if she has yet to properly make acquaintance with the queen's son. he looks so much like her that instinct almost guides lynara to try and look busy so they don't have to cross paths, so unpleasant her encounters with his mother had been, but, in a flash, he is too close for her to simply avoid him. "your highness," reverence of tongue is practiced, as is the courtesy offered. "have you been victorious?" she had heard his name being called as part of the melee, and could see it on the scrapes sported on his features. "have a sit," with her hands behind her back, she guides the prince to one of the high cots provided for patient care; hand only reaches out to attempt to soften the miserable surface so the man may rest there.

as the sun rose for the fifth and final day of the king's celebration excitement began to bubble, anticipation for the joust to come rippling through all that were present. seats were taken, bets were placed before the king stood and reminded the crowd of his triumph at the trident that had allowed for all this to take place. as he sat a squire immediately handed him a chalice and he waved to signal they should start.
the tourney got underway with a match between isao serrett and vorian stone. the westerlander sported the favour of cerenna lannister but it failed to bring him the luck needed to beat the valeman. ser vorian was declared the winner after coming triumphant in two of their three clashes, to the applause of the host aysia tully who had given their guard their favour. the tully's cousin was up next with rodric stark going head to head with lord commander of the kingsguard. though he wore his niece, cassandra baratheon's, favour and had the support of king and crowd, the stag failed to triumph against the wolf - there was even a moment where it looked as though the northerner would be able to unseat him.
the next two contests took place between two sets of brothers in laws. the kings son, steffon baratheon, found himself facing lord lefford who was sporting argella lefford's favour. the first two bouts went in the prince's favour - to the king's delight - and though lord lefford claimed the last collision for himself, it was too little too late. the next showdown between good brothers was uthor hightower and royce caron, both wearing their wives' colours. the contest was a close fought one, lord hightower narrowly taking the lead before his brother in law narrow took the next two collisions. vysena caron, who had given her favour to her husband, stayed quiet apart from polite applause.
some were not so fortunate, however, with olynna blackwood's favour providing little luck to stop desmond tyrell from finding himself falling from his horse before a collision had even been made after a mistake from his squire. the accident was ruled in ursula upcliff's favour - perhaps luck granted by their liege araya arryn's favour - and the tyrell found himself out of the competition. ser dayne had the favour of a princess and the support of the crowd but even sporting selyse baratheon's colours could not save him from misfortunate. a loud noise caused his horse to spook and have him fall as control was lost, sending the knight out and lyonel frey through instead.
lorcan lannister sported the silver and sea green of dayana velaryon in his contest against lord fossoway. the fossoway fumbled his lance and the lion seized the opportunity to pounce, striking hard enough to knock the reachman clean from his horse and securing himself a place in the next round. a lannister of lannisport was next with willem lannister and iravan goodbrother's match coming to an equally quick end as the westerlander managed to unseat the ironborn on the first collision despite the master of coin landing a solid hit. there were murmurs in the crowd though whether they were for the lannister's skill or the favour from theon greyjoy he wore might be disputed.
the next round of the competition got underway with vorian stone and rodric stark crossing lances. the battle was tight with both men displaying skills that made it difficult for the other to make any kind of convincing contact with their lances. it was not until the last collision of their contest that the stark was able to gain enough of the upper hand to be declared the victor.
friends found themselves facing one another as willem lannister's name was drawn against lyonel frey's. the pair were well matched with the lion claiming the first collision and the frey claiming the second. breaths were held before their third collision with lyonel taking a moment to secure his green and gold favour from malina tyrell. while it did not bring him victory it did secure him landing a hit on his opponent, willem was simply have judged to hit more skilfully and allowed to progress.
triumphant in her battle with the lord of highgarden, ursula faced the heir to the realm next. steffon baratheon gained the upperhand, seeming to be set to win the bout until the lady from witch isle pulled off a master stroke and knocked the prince from not only his horse but the competition too. despite the display of skill, they only recieved a smattering of applause with the crowd taking note of the displeasure that marked itself clearly on the king's face.
the next context brought the king slightly more joy when the commander of the city watch came up against the queen's brother. it had been thought it would have been an equal match or that perhaps the lion would triumph with ease as he had done previously. but it was the lord of nightsong who emerged victorious after just one collision, hitting hard enough to send lorcan from his horse and the competition.
if royce caron hoped his luck would continue and his skill would carry him through, he would hope in vain. while he had triumphed over a lannister of casterly rock, he came up short against one from lannisport. the contest was a close one but willem gained the upper hand in all three of their collisions to gain himself a place in the final.
the question of who he would face was answered when ursula upcliff took on rodric stark. money exchanged hands in the stands, bets placed on either the northerner or the lady from the vale. but where the upcliff had found their other contests little challenge, it was the stark that proved to be too much. rodric claimed each of the three collisions with ursula only managing to land a few glancing hits.
the final brought stark and lannister together, their first collision being closely contested and rodric only narrowly being declared the winner of it. but the next was far more convincing, the stark leaving little doubt in anyone's mind over who should be victor when his well placed hit sent willem from his horse and shattered his lance. with the event reaching its dramatic conclusion all that was left was for the victor to collect his winning and crown his queen. the stark chose his betrothed, barbrey ryswell, placing the crown of flowers upon her curls and declaring her queen of love and beauty. for the king's part he seemed satisfied enough with the victory of his friend's son and declared the tourney over. he reminded all to make the most of their last night, hinting at a surprise to come later that evening.

w / anyone !! DAY ONE : evening after the hunt .
Tumblr media
❛ robert, you are becoming a terrible example for your sister. ❜ a chorus of giggles flittered through the room as deft digits tickled at her son's sides. the sweetness of his chortle as he squirmed in her arms broadening argella's smile into one that was usually solely reserved for her children. glancing upwards, argella's ministrations stilled as her smile faltered ever so slightly, ❛ you must forgive this one, it seems the excitement of his grandfather's celebrations have gotten the better of him. ❜ with her son held to her and dyana held by one of her ladies, she addressed the person once again. ❛ is there something you need ? ❜

⸻  evening of day five
Tumblr media
beneath a sky soon to be alight with the brilliance of fireworks, drystan found himself in the esteemed company of talisa stark, their boat gently carving a path through the tranquil waters of the river. The soft glow of lanterns illuminated the scene, casting a serene light that reflected both in the water and in drystan's expectant expression. "to share in the spectacle of tonight's festivities with you, lady stark, is a distinct honor," he remarked, his voice smooth and inviting, a testament to his charm. "the north, in its stoic beauty, is celebrated far and wide. yet, it's the allure of its people, yourself and Lord Stark included, that truly captivates the imagination. to witness it firsthand under such resplendent stars is a rare gift."

While the term family only extended to his immediate in his mind ( or else there would be no end of relations if he counted all who bore the name lannister ) he was not a heartless man. so for all he did not consider himself particularly close to the blonde who had struggled in vain to play an out of tune harp, some sympathy was felt given the callous response she had received. "cousin." greeting was accompanied by an encouraging smile, unsure how many faces in the crowd she would know and if his would be among them. "you performed admirably considering the circumstances. a lack lustre response is better than some received."

@cordoleo ; day one ft. lynara stark.
Tumblr media
the lady of the arbor spared cursory glance and the approximation of a smile to the guard as she passed, silently tabulating the man's worth and adding the cost of this service to her mental ledger. though the seat of house tully was from the contested waters of king's landing, securing a private moment alone with the future princess of the seven kingdoms had proven to be a surprisingly difficult affair. difficult, expensive, but like most things, not entirely beyond her reach. "my lady stark," she called as she stepped into the tent, all false smiles and appraising gazes as she sized up the hand's daughter. platitudes rolling lightly off her normally viperous tongue. "stories of your beauty proceed you at every turn, though i see they scarcely do you justice. i do not believe we have been properly introduced. i am lady shireen redwyne."

trigger warning for : violence & alcoholism.
on the third day, the clouds have begun to roll in, yet the sun persistently peeks through, casting its warm glow upon the spectators nestled in the stands. anticipation hangs in the air, eager patrons await the commencement of the free-for-all brawl, governed by the standard rules. the tourney grounds were soon alive with the clamor of steel meeting steel, the cheers of the crowd, and the boisterous taunting of the king— already deep into his cups.
lorcan lannister would clash blades with darron dayne in a dazzling display of skill. but ser dayne was seemingly quicker on his feet and had not earned his place among the kingsguard for no reason. he would outmaneuver the lannister lord, making lorcan one of the first to be eliminated.
meanwhile, antony tarly would go head-to-head with iravan goodbrother. unfortunately, the master of coin would be too formidable of an opponent for lord tarly. their battle ends as quickly as it begins and lord antony is eliminated. lord iravan is offered no respite as royce caron rounds on him. the two engage in a prolonged battle, with each trying to get the upper hand, but finding each other more evenly matched. in the end, lord royce comes out on top and iravan is eliminated from the melee.
ser darron dayne's next opponent is one of the many wolves of winterfell, lord rodric stark. while darron holds more skill with the blade, lord rodric's tenacity seems to overcome it. perhaps the knight of the kingsguard had not yet recovered from his clash with the lannister, but the wolves came out on top and ser darron is eliminated.
a late entry, merrick goodbrother, goes up against lord royce caron, who had just removed his brother from the competition. it was a fierce struggle and to the shock of some, but especially that of the king, merrick would emerge triumphant, eliminating royce from the competition. lord merrick soon found himself facing isao serrett. the ironborn held the upper hand for most of the battle, but in a surprising turn of events, isao would bide his time for the exact moment to strike and remove merrick from the melee.
rodric stark then clashed with daegon drumm. the stark fought valiantly, but daegon's relentless assault proved too much, resulting in rodric's elimination from the competition. daegon would come up against prince drystan baratheon next, putting many on the edge of their seat— but none more than that of the royal family. the drumm proved to be a formidable opponent, but the prince played it smart, tiring out daegon before knocking them out of the melee.
tensions reach an all time high as the prince's sword crosses with that of calon greyjoy. the ironborn comes down hard on drystan and while the prince is able to hold his own for awhile against the assault, he is eventually overpowered and eliminated. king matthos does little to hide his displeasure at this upset and it does not go unnoticed.
the melee continues on. isao serrett, having bested merrick earlier, soon found himself facing the determination of rickon mormont. in a fierce exchange, rickon's brute strength prevailed, and he eliminated isao from the competition.
the final showdown is between lord rickon mormont of bear island and lord calon greyjoy of pyke. the two clashed, each vying to be named champion of the melee. it would be a close and intense battle, and the outcome remained uncertain until the final moments. in the end, rickon would find an opening to gain the upper hand and emerge victorious, eliminating calon from the competition.
king matthos himself would declare lord rickon mormont the champion of the melee to the sound of thunderous applause from the crowd of spectators, thus ending the three hour long brawl. the lord of bear island would then be presented with gifts of gold, as well as a custom longsword— as commissioned by the king— with a gleaming silver blade, decorated with gold inlay that depicted imagery of a herd of stags roaming a forest. the prize seems to have many wondering if the king intended for his son to emerge the victor or if the king simply will not allow anyone to forget that it is a stag that rules them.

trigger warning for - alcoholism
on the second day a cool sun shone over the riverlands and the day was declared perfect for archery and lieges filled the stands that had been set up for their comfort. there's whispered voices making a flurry of bets before hush falls over the crowds as one of the neutral judges hand selected by the king himself briefly explains the rules -each competitor will have three arrows to loose at the target on their turn, the winner will be decided by how close to the centre each arrow is.
barbrey ryswell struggled with an unfamiliar bow. dramatised accounts of the day tell of how her loosed arrow shot straight towards the crowds, causing a brush with death for some unlucky spectator, when in reality it embedded itself in the the stand. narcissa lannister was equally unlucky, arrows only barely hitting the target but still recieving polite applause for their efforts. edmyn mallister shared their luck, an unconvincing display but some more charitable members of the crowd noted that the sun was quite low.
the turn of araya arryn was more successful, but not enough to place any higher than eleventh. late entry renyse caron managed to calm nerves long enough to but a loud cheer from the commander of the city watch caused her second arrow to miss entirely, barely recovering for the third. rhyswick swann fared slightly better and claimed ninth place.
the competition began to draw tighter as each of the next competitors begun to show promise with young cassandra baratheon's steady display comfortably placing her above her bannerman. host aysia tully demonstrated why the riverlands is renowned for their archers - two beautiful shots and one slightly more wayward. the wayward one would cost the liege sixth place, instead claimed by the mistress of laws naevia qorgyle.
elora mooton followed the example set by her liege and performed even better, granting her fifth place and applause from fellow riverlanders. lorent baratheon, youngest child of the king and queen, showed some skill with a bow but was judged to have just missed out on third place. spectators next to the queen swear that they heard complaints fall from her lips and mutterings of a fix but others further away would see nothing but serene smiles and pride.
selyse baratheon became a stag between two roses as her impressive display secured her second prize, the king seemingly more satisfied with this child. malina tyrell narrowly missed out on second placed but came in third to great applause for her impressive display. but it was her sister malaika tyrell who claimed victory on the day after showcasing her skill and calm under pressure.
the king declared the tournament a success and gave the top three their prizes ( the crowd chose to ignore the way that he swayed as the gifts of gold were presented ) each was given an amount in dragons and invited to sit at the king's table that evening. his duty done matthos encouraged everyone to enjoy the feast, boasting of the ale and wine he had procured. whispers in the crowd as the spectators filed from the stands might have remarked that the king had done an excellent job of sampling these drinks already.

w. drystan baratheon, night two of the riverlands gathering, @gcldenblades
Tumblr media
"darling, come and sit by me." request comes genuinely sweetly only when it is to those of hers, and drystan had been the first person to truly be hers, and would always be. once her boy obeys her, joining her just by the high seat of the baratheon tables, the queen brings a hand to stroke at the mop of blond hair upon his head. "there is still time to forget all about the melee, sweetest." a few more hours, at the very least — nevermind that matthos would not let the boy live if he took "the coward's way", but that is not something joanna is particularly concerned about (worry for her offspring comes paramount, even if it battles against the thought of the opportunity of praise from the king if her lion was to be victorious). "if there is something you can not ruin, it is your face. do you think these beasts will have any mercy on you because you are their sovereign?"

w. cassandra baratheon, night one of the riverlands gathering, @stcrnborn
Tumblr media
moods are high, but there are always ways of souring it — not that joanna would allow it to fester, if she had any say in it (she often didn't; the woes of being herself is that she can not always keep a tight rein on her flammable emotions). "lady baratheon," she had never tried to engrace herself to her husband's family — was it not enough she had to endure his brats? — nor were there many attempts by the other side as well, so the queen can not help but to keep them at arm's length, distant but cordial, as long as she can, of course. "you're a better shot than i would have expected. my husband tells me wonders about the masters-at-arms of storm's end." of course, matthos never stops pattering when the subject is about him and his own.

w. renyse caron, day two of the riverlands gathering, @xfulminare
Tumblr media
he can never sit for long during these sort of events — it is as if his brain has been made to accompany rapid movements with sword, shuffle of feet and hand, the release of a bow; all of these brought him no little joy. matthos could not have thought the display of athletic showmanship better, but roy can not help but to be biased, moods high when this is a day he is content to just be a spectator, a brief reprieve until he is to take to the yards himself. "there you are, renyse," lord caron turns to the most familiar sight of his sister, and a hand follows, landing on her shoulder as he brings her closer to where he stood. "i thought you would have joined the competitors. wasn't sure they just skipped your name or something at the call sheet, but i suppose not?” furrowed brows seek to question as to the reason, though if he knew his sister, he could very well know why.

in the sixth moon of the year of 298 a.c., king matthos baratheon began sending ravens to all houses of westeros to announce the upcoming anniversary of the twenty - five years of his ascension to the throne.
after several months of preparation, on the first days of the second moon of 299 a.c., most of the kingdom reunites in the riverlands to celebrate the alleged peace brought in by the baratheon sovereign — auspiciously set around a vast terrain in the ruby ford, where once matthos killed his foe viserys targaryen, the king has arranged for a most luxurious camp to be organized.
upon green plains, near a hundred tents have been put up, one for each house invited, and the greater houses' the best of them all, but none lacking in comfort for the king expects his subjects to enjoy the week-long event in the best of fashion. despite the generosity, inns all around the riverland have been reserved for those who prefer getting to know the famous riverland hospitality — and yet other people (such as the king's family and house stark, the only ones allowed within riverrun) have been invited to be hosted by noble houses of the riverlands who so decide to extend their open hands and lands.
set but an hour away from the campsite, more acres of land have been prepared to host activities to entertain the guests and, most of all, the king. under the light of the sun, the ground will serve as location for an activity each of the five days, with a great jousting tournament to finish off the day-time amusements. quite a few merchants and a couple of troupes have also received the king's permission (for a hefty fee, of course) to sell their luxurious goods and provide entertainment.
during the nights, the equipment is set aside to allow for a dancing floor, allowing for nobles to mingle freely with one another; there will also be seats for the consumption of a marvelous feast each night. on the very last night of the week, the tully will finally welcome guests within riverrun terrain — rather, its waters, as guests are invited to aboard boats to enjoy a spectacle of fireworks.
alongside the betting stands, a schedule has been made available on the activities terrain to inform people of the hours of entertainment, and to allow for people to enter the lists of sports. as it reads:
day one : hunting. on the first day, the king himself will lead one of the hunting expeditions around the bountiful woods, and nobles inclined to the activity are expected to join him and boast of their prowess.
day two : archery. on the second day, the activities terrain will be set up to host an archery competition. the winner will receive a prize not yet revealed.
day three : melee. on the third day, a melee competition will be organized. while many have considered that to be a brutish sport, the king himself has won quite a few melees in his day, and looks forward to the entertainment he will get as a viewer. the winner will also receive a prize not yet revealed.
day four : plays. as a reprieve from athletics, this day will be one for people who love the arts; troupes were contracted to perform several plays throughout the day, all, of course, in praise of the king's feats throughout his reign. onlookers may be allowed to join on the merriment and declare lines of songs or of compositions of their own.
day five : jousting. the pinnacle of the event, a jousting tournament will take place, and the king promises it shall be the best of the decade as it reunites the best knights of the kingdom. each competitor shall be allowed to receive the favor from a liege of their preference, and the final winner will be able to crown one their queen of love and beauty.
Tumblr media
this event is inspired by tudor extravagance; you can get examples of the vibes by the event of the cloth of field of gold ( a depiction can be seen on the spanish princess s2e06 ) and the boat scene on elizabeth 1998 ( a clip can be found here ).
the event will run for at least fifteen days ooc ( from 28th of january to 11th of february ). ic, it will be throughout 5 days ( the 2nd of february to the 7th of february ). you can not start writing until sunday!
there will be a sign up thread on the discord for those who wish to offer their muses for any of the five days' activities. please do so as soon as you can!
every three days, we will be posting an update on the activity. we will be randomizing the signed-up characters for things that will happen during each activity and encourage you to add those to your writing!
that being said, you can write any day of the event at any time you wish. we only ask that you refrain from writing the last night of the event, the boats parade, as it will be our final drop from this event.
when we do write the threads, we advice you to tag them conquest.event1, for your and our organization.
if there are any questions or suggestions, please reach out to us via the ims, the questions channel on the discord or your private channel.
lastly, keep your eyes peeled for updates and have fun!

w. desmera rykker, fourth night of the riverlands gathering, @monarkhes
Tumblr media
she's sick and done of both hearing her husband's beastly behavior and the complaints of their subjects about it — if he is above them, they may as well shut up and take it gratefully to even be graced with his displeasure — and so the queen learns to ignore it altogether, focusing instead on finding a new amusement; it is found as the lists for tomorrow are read, quite a few familiar names called out. "dessie, darling," the mistress of whispers is beckoned as if she was no more than the young girl, tall for her teen years, that had joined her household as yet another maid of honor. "this position of yours is rather unbecoming. you have been no better than a ghost all this week — what have you been doing that i do not see you as often?" the queen raises her fair eyebrows, lips pursing and forming a pout. "it seems you shall also remain quiet tomorrow, if what i heard is correct, and your favor shall not be requested by our common friend. pity. i do like you better, you know this well."

w. elora mooton, day four of the riverlands gathering, @wylldfyres
Tumblr media
joanna laughed, of course she did. how could one remain impassible in front of such a ridiculous mistake — even one that the poor lady mooton has no true fault in? but the queen knows to stifle her merriment as she hears her husband's own roar loud; gaze turns accusatory, before turning to the humiliated lady, seeing a clear opportunity there. from her own table, at some distance from the king's, as the professional singer replaces the woman, joanna has a servant beckoning the young lady mooton to her side. "elora, isn't it?" the name had been whispered at her ear by one of her ladies (you just can't expect her to remember everyone she meets!), and the queen's smile is sickeningly sweet (especially to herself), just enough so that it could almost be convincing of her attempt to soothe a husband's poor behavior (she's already forgotten she laughed too, for that is how joanna's memory works when it comes to her own slights). "have you had some honeyed milk, elora? it works wonders for a sore throat. after all this rain…"

w. rodric stark, day two of the riverlands gathering, @gaudiun
Tumblr media
"whatever do you mean you shall bet fifty gold dragons on barb? are you trying to outdo me?" as they stand alongside the betting stands together, the lady's voice comes out almost shrill, infantile side vibrant near the starks — most of all, the one who often managed to prickle her the way only brothers enjoy doing. "that's not fair! you don't even know if she's that good." lynara gives rodric a sharp look, tempting him to agree or say otherwise (odds weren't good for him either way).
