"fixing" the panic attack scene to be more platonic ™
im extremely active on twt and have been noticing a sydcarmy tweet go viral multiple times a week (like w thousands of interactions its crazy), and its really great to see how much people love and see it for this ship. recently carmys panic attack scene went viral again, and naturally, some ppl gave their piece about how we are all dumb for interpreting it as romantic. that sydney represents his love for his job or his duty to the restaurant (*sigh*).
this scene imo, is the most concrete proof of this ship. i can excuse (not really) interpreting every interaction between them thus far as platonic but this scene....i just refuse. this is gonna be a long post, not analyzing the scene per se because i can't possibly say anything that hasn't already been said but more "fixing" the scene to fit the narrative of antis, and i hope in doing so really shows there's no other way to interpret this scene as other than romantic. again its gonna be a long post bc im just ranting and i think i will lose my mind if i dont type this out.
lets go.
Tumblr media
so first off i like to think of this scene as an equation/experiment. simply a problem that needs to be solved.
problem/reason of panic = ...we will discuss this...
solution # 1 = claire -> failed
solution # 2 = sydney -> worked.
Problem/Reason
s02e09 opens up with carmy and claire finally consummating their relationship, with an interesting song choice might i add and carmy dissociating, looking sad, or broken (???) after. because many have said carmy pulling memories of sydney from his psyche to calm down have to do with work i always remember that, it really doesnt make any sense?
carmy is clearly having a panic attack due to him not being "fixed" as soon as he made it official with claire. he felt pressure from his family both currently and in the past to date claire because she is amazing and perfect. add mikey also being a part of that crowd, and carmy so desperately trying to connect with him when he cannot, is why i think he looks so despondent after that scene. i truly think he thought he would be a changed person after everything with claire and when that didn't happen he flipped...
we know this is the reason bc his panic attack starts with their sex scene and the lyric "I dont know" from strange currencies by REM.
this isn't to say that he isn't nervous or stressed about the soft open but its clear that he's not having a panic attack about work nor have we ever seen him have a work-related panic attack (correct me if I'm wrong). in s1 he has one or two due to him greiving his brother.
platonic fix: To make it about work I would have added scenes like when Carmy started that stove fire in braciole, his meltdown in review, some scenes of his horrible time at EMP, and him grieving his brother. i think these would represent his fear of failure, falling back into old toxic habits pertaining his career, the fear of fostering a toxic work environment like the ny chef and also the idea of "failing" mikey
but theres a reason why none of this occurs bc its not about his job or the opening of the bear. this is explicitly about his personal and romantic love life.
Solution # 1 : Claire
carmy proceeds to try and calm down by thinking of claire through literal rose-coloured glasses...
Tumblr media
the music is distorted, he's thinking of his abusive family, he remembers every one pushing him to date claire bc shes a #goodthing.
again...this is not about his job and wouldnt make sense to think of sydneys place in his work life as a soultion to his clear personal problem....
platonic fix: in the story of carmys love life claire and sydney act as narrative foils. they have been compared and contrasted for all of s2. my platonic fix for this would be making the NY chef this first "solution" of a work-related panic attack. he represents a horrible time in his life but also represents a time when carmy was at the height of his career. when carmy gets locked in the walk in and has his monologue, its alluded to that he will revert back to that mind set in order to not let everyone down.
NY chef abused him for so long, it makes sense that carmys psyche would readily go back to his insults and the time he himself was an isolated 'psycho' bc it yielded results.
nothing is black and white and i DO think sydney represents a healthier approach to the toxic mess that is the culinary world and does represent that for carmy. if the show was invested in that, sydney and the NY chef could be overtly contrasted like sydney and claire have been.
BUT again this isnt about his job and dedication as a chef...thus why he tries to think of claire to solve his personal problem, and it fails.
Solution # 2: Sydney
LMFAOOO.
carmy then in a crazy plot twist starts thinking of his platonic work bestie sydney adamu....the love song dedicated by the show to his relationship with his girlfriend is then made clear highlighting some pretty damning lyrics about desire and love.....all platonic btw. yes you are dumb if you think otherwise (*wink*)
Tumblr media
I actually have two platonic fixes for this...
platonic fix # 1: if we only wanted to focus on sydney as a person who calms carmy down because shes his work bestie who represents his responsibilty to the bear and the postive change they are trying effect in the culinary world, i would add scenes where they are...you know actually cooking???
i think its pretty crazy how the memories carmys immediately jump to are ones that have little to do with their jobs. when they first meet (would also like to note that when carmy first laid eyes on Sydney, he forgot she was there for a job, so this is his raw reaction to seeing a pretty girl lol) and when she comes back after she quit and their break up fight.
i would add their scenes in carmys kitchen (even tho this is extremely damning bc they were flirting DOWN - they don't make this easy at all). this represents their collaboration skills and the way they WORK and bounce ideas off of each other seamlessly. specifically the scene about him wanting to give her a star, representing his duty to her and the restaurant.
*and no shade to carmy but if his responsibility to the bear/syd as a co-worker was bothering him this much and calmed him down wouldn't he have just immediately called the fridge guy.....anyways*
platonic fix # 2 (the best one): if i was chris storer and joanna calo and i REALLY wanted to sell it that carmy isnt in love with sydney then i would put every single member of the OG beef crew + Nat to calm him down not just Sydney.
im talking to them laughing at family, carmy giving tina his chefs knife, richie in his new suit, carmys one on one w Marcus/trying his donut, nat telling carmy shes pregnant (signifing rebirth/wanting to rid all the toxic abuse from his family), carmy trying sydney risotto, and her face when he said it was tremendous etc etc...you get the gist
and honestly?
even as i type this out im tearing up a little bit bc that would have been really beautiful. carmy is changing. he can and is getting rid of old toxic habits from his family and the mess that is the culinary industry. things are changing for the better....that would be beautiful....IF his panic attack was about any of these things lol.
and to even look at this scene without this need for symmetry and we entertain the idea of carmy thinking about his job as a solution for his personal problem...carmy has said himself (s02e01) that this isnt fun for him. i dont think that means he hates cooking i kinda disagree with the ppl who think he isnt passionate about it. i just think currently its something that doesnt bring him joy but i do think its something hes starting to or at least could have started to enjoy if he just committed to working with syd...
conclusion
theres a lot of....delusion? denial? straight up bias? yes all of that, going on.
idk what is happening bc this show is really great at being subtle. but i dont know whats more in your face, dumbed down, even a toddler could understand, than this scene. if you dont come out of this understanding that carmy is falling in love/currently in love with Sydney...and i hate using this term..but you just arent media literate.
Tumblr media
bonus: bc it makes me laugh and connects the purpose and solutions.
i think we need a Snyder Sydcarmy Cut™ of bolognese and omelette.
the start of the episode is when sydney and carmy fight over claires inclusion in the menu, and also when sydney randomly asks him to define his relationship with Claire. the episode would continue until we get to the table scene.
i think its WILD how as soon as Sydney asks him to define their relationship, carmy starts calling claire his girlfriend. then the show proceeds to insert sydney in their romantic montage, shows her tattoo about heartbreak and someone getting in the way of your relationship...THEN proceeds to have carmy compare these two women in his mind and only calms down after seeing Sydney.
i could talk about this scene for AGES. wheres the straitjacket....

Opinion things about teams:
Adelaide - I hate the bogan song and the accents in it and the clear lie because there’s clearly anything but admiration for them of the nation, we all hate them and they suck and I don’t like a thing other than the navy blue part of their jumper and Josh Rashelly. Also I’m beyond terrified of their fans.
Brisbane - I do like Josh Dunkley, i’m partial with their song but it’s too French for me, also the Gabba was alright but like being at a ground from before my time tbh, concrete jungle. Don’t really care about them they’re probably the better of the interstate teams.
Carlton - what’s NOT to like? Besides Koutafides and Kristou. And 2019 32 and Dale Thomas. They suck
Collingwood - I really enjoy watching this club and my 7 year old LOVES them and Darcy and Pat and everyone but I hate their boys club and racist culture, their stupidity and this incessant need to keep De Goey. And I hate what they did to the Brown brothers, Bianco, Grundy, Ginnivan etc. also Port look better in the prison jumper x. Good song tho, maybe change the word cakewalk.
Essednon - solid song, easy to remember but I hate how my autocorrect always spells Essendon wrong lol. Nice jumper, nice colours, but hated the drug saga and James Hird and how much of a fake he is. Ruined Bombed Thompson who was in a way a favourite of mine and @fazcinatingblog ‘s. Not bad.
Fremantle - I like the purple. It ends there. The song is metal, the longer version was good but some of the lyrics are questionable tbh. Also always wanted to see a game in Perth.
Geelong - my eldest child goes for them and passionately loves them, and my older brother who died also loved them passionately. I lived in Geelong, hate the area and the fans but otherwise I’d call Geelong my third team tbh. I don’t mind them at all. Song is always hittin
Gold Coast - I do not like one thing.
GWS - as above. Plus their stadium is fucking stupid. Location wise and everything wise. I do like the song, it gets in my head. Carlton are the biggest and the bestttt
Hawks - Ginnivan lol he’s the only thing I like. My son likes them a lot! The song annoys me cause the only time I ever hear it is against one of MY teams :(
Melbourne - I like the song I like Petracca I like the colours but the royal blue and red guernsey gotta go. That’s the Dogs’ property. Also love that they smashed the dogs in the 2021 premiership and the dogs are so salty about it that they refuse to acknowledge it as a premiership.
Norf - yeah nice colours, nice song + the unofficial entry before the song that I sing and Laura looks at me like I’m crazy, some players are alright but I hate that when a good team plays Norf, it’s the slowest and longest game ever because Norf naturally drag you down to their level.
Port - WE GOT THE POWER TO WIN! POWER TO RULE! COME ON, PORT ADELAIDE AGGRESSION. WE GOT THE POWER FROM PORT, ITS MORE THAN A SPORT ITS THE TRUE PORT ADELAIDE TRADITION. WE NEVER STOP STOP STOP TILL WERE TOP TOP TOP there’s HISSSSSSTORY HERE IN THE MAKING. WE GOT THE POWER TO WIN, WE’LL NEVER GIVE IN TILL THE FLAG IS OURS FOR THE TAKING. POWER!!!! (Power is what I always sing at the end of baggers song lol) I love the song I hate the club and team and the dumb pear. How the hell are they a pear?
Richmond - I love the song and it ends there, also thanks for the win round 1 babes
Saints - idk I’m on the fence with them
Sydney - I do not like one thing about them
West Coast - ugly
Dogs - overrated

🖊️ + rose + pets! 🥺
Ahhhh thank you so much for sending this one and giving me any opportunity to write about Rose and animals. I'm fairly certain this one was prompted by a convo we were having in the server about how Rose deserves a dog so voila. With a touch of angst because why not?
.
It wasn’t a good day.
It wasn’t a good day; it was the middle of the semester so the kids were at school, Dimitri had already left for his shift when Rose had woken that morning, and in their place in the empty house stood the ghosts of her past.
Natalie had stared back at her in the bathroom mirror.  Victor had watched her, gaze heavy with judgement, while she’d made breakfast.  Mason had been waiting outside when she’d left the house.  The Dragomirs had lined the driveway while she’d pulled out in her car.
Why you? their stares seemed to say.  Why did Lissa save you and not us?
Why did I die while you survived, she could have sworn Mason hissed as she passed.
Even Victor and Natalie.  You killed us.  You killed us and got away with it.
Dimitri was on shift, Lissa had important meetings all day, Christian was teaching, Sydney and Adrian were away on business, and Rose was running out of options of who she could turn to.  Who might be able to help chase away the ghosts and the shadows.  She aimed her car towards Eddie and Mia’s place only a few streets away but changed her mind, chucking a left turn without indicating much to the annoyance of the car behind her.
Space was at a premium at Court so it always surprised Rose how much real estate Maria managed to nab for her dog breeding and training business.  The shopfront was modest at best, a smallish room big enough for a glorified table masquerading as a front desk for general enquiries.  But it opened out onto a massive outdoor space bordered by kennels with plenty of space for the hounds to run around.
Rose parked out front and headed inside, letting herself through the back and outside where she could see Maria working with some of the psi-hounds, training them to take commands from their future masters.  She glanced up at Rose, her ancient face seeming to devolve into yet more wrinkles as an expression of faint surprise appeared.
“I wasn’t expecting you today,” she croaked and Rose shrugged,  the gesture hardly making her feel like the approaching middle-aged wife and mother that she was.  A bit like Yeva, Maria had the ability to make her feel like a teenager all over again.
“I didn’t have a shift or anything else to do today.  Figured you might need some help.”
Maria blinked and cocked her head, her face revealing nothing.  “Fine,” she said finally, almost sounding impatient now as if Rose were holding her up.  “Almost time for the lunchtime feed.”
The familiar movements of hauling out the large bags of kibble were so comfortable that Rose could almost ignore the way Tasha was trailing after her.  The psi-hounds growled at her approach as they usually did but quickly got over it when they saw what she beheld.  As a dhampir it was always a little harder for her to win over any of the canines but especially the hounds.  The dogs, who would be adopted out as pets once they'd finished the basic training Maria offered, were friendlier and she was greeted by lolling tongues and wagging tails when she headed to their kennels.
Rose usually didn’t allow herself to get attached to any of the canines that Maria bred, knowing that they would all go to royals eventually, but there was one Australian Shepherd that she’d involuntarily grown close to, breathing a little sigh of relief every time she turned up and he was still there.
“Hey, boy,” she said, letting herself into his kennel, the last in the row and filling up his bowl.
But he didn’t swoop upon it straight away as all the other canines had, instead regarding her with serious eyes, one a bright dazzling blue, and the other the colour of warm hot chocolate, so Rose flopped onto the warm concrete beside him, reaching out a hand to stroke his soft fur.
Tasha approached the kennel, her gaze cold and accusatory and Rose shut her eyes to block it out, taking a small comfort at the feeling of the shepherd’s head thumping down on her thigh, a feeling she hadn’t felt since her beloved German Shepherd, Zeus, had passed several years earlier.  She hadn’t realised how much she’d missed it.
Tasha’s presence lingered outside the kennel and Rose sucked in a deep breath before letting it out again, trying to remember what her therapist had told her to do in these situations.
“Not real, not real, not real,” she murmured under her breath.  Tasha was not real.  The concrete, warm and hard, was real, the softness of the dog bed beside her was real, the barking of the other canines was real. The shepherd leaning his head on her leg looking for a scratch behind the ears, he was real.  The warm puffs of his breath against her skin, that was real.  The silky strands of fur between her fingers, they were real.
Rose slowly opened her eyes and Tasha was gone.
In her place, Maria stood, hands on her hips and one eyebrow raised.  Rose braced herself to be yelled at for mucking around; it didn’t matter that she came to help out in her time off from work, Maria still thought that she could order her around just the same, but far from annoying her as it would have as a teenager, now it just amused Rose.
But Maria didn’t yell.  Instead she just jerked her chin at the dog by Rose’s side.  “Keep him if you want,” she grunted in the same no-nonsense way she had when she’d dumped Zeus in her arms nearly a decade before.
Rose’s eyes widened in surprise.  “What?”
“He’s a troublemaker who won’t learn.  Reminds me of you,” she added with a scowl.  “No one will want him and you need a dog, yes?  Keep him.”
Rose blinked and glanced down at the dog, who was still just a puppy, butt already wiggling with excitement.  A slow smile started to unfurl across her face as she picked the puppy up and hoped that Dimitri wouldn’t mind the surprise when he got home.

Mastering Concrete Grinding Sydney for Epoxy Coatings
Epoxy floor coatings have become increasingly popular for their durability, resilience, and aesthetic appeal, making them a favoured choice for both commercial and residential spaces.
However, the key to a flawless epoxy application lies beneath the surface — in the meticulous process of concrete grinding. Concrete grinding not only prepares the floor but also ensures the longevity and adherence of the epoxy coating. This article delves into the critical role of concrete grinding in the preparation of floors for epoxy coatings, emphasising its importance for achieving the perfect finish.
Creating the Ideal Surface Profile
Concrete grinding is an essential first step in the application of an epoxy coating. The process involves:
•    Using abrasive tools to smooth and level the concrete surface.
•    Removing any imperfections, such as bumps.
•    Ridges.
•    Previous coatings.
This is crucial for ensuring that the epoxy coating adheres properly to the floor. A well-prepared surface allows the epoxy to bond effectively, reducing the risk of peeling or flaking over time.
Grinding provides the ideal surface profile needed for the epoxy to adhere. The goal is to achieve a slightly porous, clean, and even surface that will allow the epoxy resin to grip effectively. This ensures that the final coating is not only aesthetically pleasing but also durable and resistant to traffic and wear.
Ensuring Longevity and Performance
The quality of the surface preparation significantly influences the durability of an epoxy floor coating. Concrete grinding removes contaminants such as oil, dirt, and grease, which can interfere with the adhesion of the epoxy coating. By thoroughly cleaning and levelling the floor, grinding ensures that the epoxy application is uniform and free of defects.
Moreover, grinding can help to open up the pores of the concrete, allowing the epoxy to penetrate deeper into the surface. This results in a stronger bond between the coating and the concrete, which enhances the longevity and performance of the epoxy floor. A well-prepared floor can withstand heavy foot traffic, impact, and chemical spills, making it an ideal solution for various settings, including warehouses, garages, and retail spaces.
Achieving Aesthetic Excellence
Beyond the technical benefits, concrete grinding plays a pivotal role in achieving the desired aesthetic outcome of an epoxy floor. A smooth, well-prepared surface ensures a flawless finish, free from bubbles, ridges, and uneven textures. This is particularly important for high-gloss and decorative epoxy applications, where the final appearance is paramount.
Grinding allows for the customisation of the floor's texture and finishes, providing a uniform canvas for the application of coloured epoxies, decorative chips, and other design elements. The result is a visually appealing floor that reflects attention to detail and craftsmanship, enhancing the overall ambience of the space.
Conclusion
Concrete grinding is not just a preparatory step; it is the foundation upon which the success of an epoxy floor coating rests. It ensures optimal adhesion, longevity, and aesthetic appeal of the epoxy coating, making it an indispensable process.
Tumblr media
Whether you're renovating a commercial space or upgrading your home garage, understanding the importance of concrete grinding Sydney can make all the difference in achieving a durable, attractive, and high-performance epoxy floor. By investing in thorough surface preparation, you set the stage for a flooring solution that combines beauty with resilience, standing the test of time.
