Honestly, it's a little hilarious to think about the fact that, seemingly, the reason the watchers chased Grian after he fled the colony was basically the equivalent of them going "Oh No! The baby! He's gonna get himself killed all on his own!"

I've always mentally likened it to an abusive family who does deeply care but the dynamics are just so fucked that it doesnt even matter, yknow??? These are entities that essentially told Grian-- and hold the deep-seated belief-- that he can never survive on his own again. That he has to give up his independence and live within their control, their rules, all to help bring their population up. And theres the additional horror that if he had stayed, they wouldve viewed their experiment with him as a success, and he would've eventually been forced to do the exact same thing to another Player. The dynamics were just SO unhealthy and horrific, and so he very understandably ran at the first opportunity that presented itself.

Idk theres just a very specific horror to me in being chased and trapped, but out of genuine perceived care, because the disregard for your feelings isnt even something that's intentionally malicious. But a cage is still a cage, and losing your autonomy is still losing your autonomy, no matter how good someone else's intentions are. So to me, the Watchers are basically like Grian's extended abusive family, who would try and force him back in a heartbeat if they happened to find him again

#shouting speaks #asks #hunger au #once he escaped some of the watchers just gave him up as a lost cause #but if they ever found him again. they would do anything in their power to bring him back and KEEP HIM there #does this make any sense i basically just woke up my brain is still coming online #but yeah. the specific dynamic in my head wrt the watchers and grian is one of a very insidious control #that does happen to come from genuine care #also incidentally this is why hermitcraft worked so well for him for so long #hc sticks to the outskirts of the server cluster #whereas the watchers' colony is within the rings of the local dev crystal #he could not be further away from them rn if he tried WHEEZE #txt

Cad death fungus is this pretty mushroom that forms networks with everything else around it and forms symbiotic relationships but if you even look at it too long you trip absolute balls.

all mycelia are symbiotic with the plants and trees and animals around them (we would be nowhere without fungi, like life just wouldn't exist how it does on earth) but yes i see your vision, especially a v cool pink fungi maybe, like kinda wet like waxcaps but more translucent. also sidenote - i was thinking maybe there are specific kinds of fungi that firbolgs eat for a high, maybe as part of ritual for the clays, maybe just recreationally, but they've cultivated it at least somewhat in the grove. . but thatd be fun lore i think

#jubilee waxcaps are the kinda colour im thinking of. but maybe translucent and paler (for cad death mushroom)#and they turn darker pink when you dry them. thatd b cool #i think he should become i nice cluster or ring around one of the willows in the grove tbh #asks
