The Three Gs:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Clan Smoke Jaguar are Gaslight because everyone says they were extinct, when there actually were survivors, serving in the Fidelis
Clan Wolf/Wolf Empire are Gatekeep because apparently, when you're ilKhan, Archon and heir to the Federation, nobody can enter the Circle of Equals with you because you have no equals
Clan Jade Falcon are Girlboss, because they had Malvina Hazen, who really can't be contested for the title

Battle Report
Tumblr media
Clan Smoke Jaguar attacked Naginata Battalion's Union-class Dropship Lightning's Messenger. The Smoke Jaguars brought two garrison stars with a mix of vehicles and mechs to the field, while Naginata Battalion answered with their 2nd Company.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Clan Smoke Jaguar brought a significant amount of Arrow IV artillery to the field, enough to allow them to batter the Union's guns into submission, along with a mix of mechs. Naginata Battalion brought an all-purpose force anchored around a heavy assault lance.
Tumblr media
The battle was, interestingly, more decided by battle armor than mechs, as the Clans' objective was to capture the dropship by delivering squads of battle armor aboard, and the Kuritans relied on their own armor(particularly heavy Kanazuchis) to defend it. Artillery was also crucial - the Kuritans wiped out one squad of Clan Salamanders with an Arrow IV's blast radius, while the Clans' homing arrows destroyed two of Naginata Battalion's mechs and battered three more into impotent wrecks.
The most notable single action was by a lone Kage trooper, the final survivor of her squad, who spent three turns slashing at the leg actuators of a Black Lanner with her vibrokatana, shredding one foot actuator and possibly causing the mech to fail a MASC roll and suffer even more damage.
In the end, the game was a Kuritan victory, partly because the Clans killed one of their own battle armor squads with a stray Arrow IV, and the dropship was able to take off and escape the battle without being boarded.
(Most of the terrain is Hextech, aside from the DropShip, which is a rip of the file from Mechwarrior 5. The 40k terminators are being proxied as Gnome Battle Armor)

A Productive Day
I had a super productive painting day doing some elemental bases

Some Smoke Jaguars
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And some Crucian Militia
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It felt so good to get these out of my pile of shame and onto the battlefield! I've already primed the next batch of mecha and I've loved watching my unpainted mini pile shrink.

The Smoke Jaguar claims this world.
Identify the forces that defend it so that we from the mists of space may know on whom we pounce.
So excited, finally get to test my Clan Fire Star. I'm also nervous, I have won my one and only match, tonight could break that "streak".

This is Star Colonel Kat Moon of Clan Smoke Jaguars' Alpha Galaxy, Third Cluster.
I come bearing the evidence of a true Hunchback, the HBK-IIC. The holopict above is of my own HBK-IIC from my younger days, when it was piloted by a predecessor who they washed out of the commpod with a hose. Let it be known that the HBK-IIC is the superior hunchback! All those who would disagree identify yourselves, so that I may know on whom I pounce!
Let all who have opinions on the Hunchback answer the Star Colonel's batchall! For those of us who wish to spectate, I will bring the popcorn.

The Mist Lynx is possibly one of the oddest omnimechs the clans produced because they built it and then immediately decided it sucked ass and everyone rushed to build some sort of replacement for the blighted thing. If you're clan Ice Hellion, you get really into fast, multirole skirmishers as a concept, build the Arctic Cheetah, get it stolen by the Smoke Jaguars, and then build the Hellion instead. If you're clan Jade Falcon, you decide the problem with the Mist Lynx was that it simply didn't have enough GUN and build the Fire Falcon.
This thing has a frankly illegal amount of weaponry for a 25 ton mech- the Prime configuration has a potential alpha strike of 47 damage to absolutely murder the shit out of anything that underestimates it, and many of the other variants have an equally disgusting potential. Planning to use this in an ilClan era Rasalhague Dominion list and blowing the back out of some assault mechs.

Some closeups of the 3rd Canopian Fusiliers I posted before, now with finished bases! I think my next big project is to start painting up some of the forces from The Dragon Roars scenario book. It'll be the 1st Canopian Cuirrasiers and the 11th Alshain Avengers vs. Clan Smoke Jaguar's Beta Galaxy.

Arano Royal Guard
Good old House Arano from the Battletech videogame by HBS. Go play it right now if you haven't yet, it's a masterpiece turn-based strategy game even if you're not specifically a BT fan.
These minis came from the Alpha Strike box. I'd already done up the IS assault mechs in blue for the "Kestrel's Lament" post so I wanted to do the remaining scout lance in red for contrast.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Extra focus on the bases here. Blue team had rivers/marsh beneath so red gets lava rocks and magma.
It's some rubble flocking painted over with Night Scales metallic black. THIS is how it's supposed to look! Glitters of blues/greens/whites in with the black. Fittingly makes it look like magnetite here. The glitters barely showed at all on the Black Marauder. Maybe because that was painted over a black basecoat? Here it went on raw over un-primed brown gravel and turned out great.
Next I painted white in the gaps, then filled that in with water medium mixed with orange ink.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One more lineup from down low, like they're coming over a ridge. It's easy to forget what mechs might look like coming head-on when we're always looking down on the minis from above.
Also screw whoever made the Wraith's short designation "TR#". I guess "WTH" wouldn't go over well haha. But TR? For what, Troll?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
WIPs here. Steps taken: -Platemail silver primer -Blood Red speedpaint -Gold/Night Scales highlights -Dark Tone wash (Only necessary over the non-speedpaints) -Blue, then watered-down white in jumpjets -Matte white, then inks on cockpits and lasers -Glued base flocking then prepared as mentioned above -Gloss varnish (extra heavy on cockpits/lasers)
Next for the remaining clan star, they're primed in black, I figure the classic bad guys of Smoke Jaguar should be a good opponent.
Mechwarrior 3 was my introduction to the franchise. "Die, Clanner!"

At some out-of-the-way station's obligatory 'merc bar':
The Steiner Stein. Big, strong, impressive, expensive. Frankly, more a flex than a drink.
The Liao Surprise. Unassuming, small, but potent for its size.
The Davion Deluxe. Classically done and delivers well.
The Kurita Classic. Fine, pure, traditional to the last drop.
The Marik Mixup. A chaotic blend of flavor. They say it never goes down the same way twice.
The ComStar Comet. Simple and consistent under the cultivated layer of sophistication.
The Republic on the Rocks. A middle-of-the-road flavor; satisfying but certainly never shocking.
The Clan Wolf. Strong and direct, with a consistent, full-throated flavor.
The Clan Jade Falcon. Bitter something fearsome. Takes some vindictiveness to actually finish.
The Clan Hell's Horses. A powerful opening with a kick of a finish to follow up.
The Clan Sea Fox. A hair stronger, and twice as expensive, than you would expect.
The Clan Smoke Jaguar. The pure burn of unadorned but high-quality liquor.
The Clan Nova Cat. Alcohol-free.
The Scorpion Empire. Available to VIPs only.
The Wolf Empire. Classical style derived from the Clan Wolf but with an all-new flavor.
The Alliance Special. A drink off the beaten track, smoky and jagged-edged.
The Dominion Deluxe. A seamless mix of strength and subtlety.
The Devlin's Choice. An unplaceable taste with a kick you'll never see coming.
The Snord's Delight. Fruity and sweet, light but with a sting of something to raise the spirits.
The Highlander Burial. True Northwind whisky, on ice chilled from her pure, crystal-clear springs.
Today's special: down the Malthus' Challenge in one go (and keep it down) for your chance to win a Refuse My Batchall?! keychain.
No longer served: the Jihadi Joy, the Razin' Hazen, the Mongol Doctrine, and the Kentares Crush.

Naginata Battalion
Tumblr media
Naginata Battalion is a unit of the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery, notable for exclusively recruiting women.
Naginata Battalion's origins begin with one woman - Sho-Sa Azisu Misakari, a veteran of House Kurita who earned her rank during the War of 3039. During its aftermath, Azisu was tasked by her superiors with standing up a new formation to fill the ranks of the Dragon's forces. She quickly found, however, that very few mechwarriors of House Kurita were willing to serve under her - some were more willing to accept service in a minor garrison force than to accept her command. Asizu eventually saw that her problem contained its own solution - just as there were many men who refused to serve under her, there were many women whose commanders were happy to be rid of them. Azisu began requesting transfers from her fellow commanders of any women listed on their rosters, as well as spreading the word of her battalion - commanded by a woman and consisting of women - through the ranks. While the word was often followed by snickers and even comments about their status as "comfort women", a swell of willing mechwarriors, technicians, and secondary roles quickly grew Azisu's ranks.
Tumblr media
By 3044, then-Naginata Company had finally reached its paper strength of twelve mechs with sufficient numbers of techs, as well as a Union-class Dropship permanently assigned to their roster. However, Azisu's superiors had called on her to produce a battalion, and her rank of Sho-sa required a battalion for her to command.
Tumblr media
Despite Ganji-no-Kanrei Theodore Kurita's reforms in the 3030s and 3040s, the DCMS was still not an ideal place to be a women, and even Theodore's reformists balked at the idea of a pure-women formation. The Procurement Department in particular continually threw obstacles in the way of Azisu and her pilots, in one notable instance delivering a shipment of maid's uniforms instead of the new coolant suits which had been ordered. Azisu, considering her options, reported the officer responsible to the Internal Security Force for "standing in the way of the effectiveness of the Coordinator's forces achieving their duly appointed glory." The officer in question was quietly reassigned to the frontier of the periphery, and Azisu found herself owing the ISF a favor. This began a long and mutually beneficial relationship - Naginata Battalion, as it slowly expanded to be called, could call on the ISF for both assistance dealing with the rest of the DCMS and with acquiring the newest and best gear, and the ISF could call on Azisu's assistance with "delicate matters best not exposed to those inflexible soldiers who bring honor to the Dragon" - essentially serving as a reliable mech force to be deployed against seditionists, separatists, Rasalhaguian rabble-rousers, and Davion sympathizers.
At the outset of the Clan Invasion, Naginata Battalion had grown to two full companies, not far beneath its paper strength, and was deployed on the Davion border. News of the Combine's early defeats against the Clans, however, caused a strategic reassessment, and Naginata Battalion was pulled from the Davion border to join the counterattack against Clan Smoke Jaguar. In the aftermath of the Invasion, Naginata Battalion was positioned along the border with the Smoke Jaguar Occupation Zone. Sho-Sa Azisu Misakari continued to pilot the Cyclops she had piloted since earning her rank, but it had been refitted with clan-built weaponry and a C3 Master system that allowed her to lead her forces from the front. In the aftermath of the Tukayyid Truce, Naginata Battalion finally swelled to its paper strength via the new mass production programs House Kurita had implemented, including receiving Battle Armor forces and new Kuritan Omnimechs, enough to form a full Omni Company. Reports indicate that Naginata Battalion's Omni Company even included a pair of salvaged Clan Omnimechs - a Vulture and a Grendel - which were never turned over to the Procurement Department, probably thanks to their connections with the ISF. As House Kurita's forces swelled with the glut of salvage and production in the aftermath of Operation Bulldog, Naginata Battalion finally achieved its paper strength.
Tumblr media
As of 3062, Naginata Battalion is engaged against House Steiner and Clan Jade Falcon in the New Exford Campaign
