Cal Kestis Week: Sunday - TOUCH
Tumblr media
Image taken by AnimatedJen
They form a circle around Cal- not for any ritualistic reason, but because it is the simplest way to be close to him. BD-1 sits close to his right knee, his head turned up to watch Cal with his legs stretched out in front of him. She has seen the droid take this position before, when Cal was meditating. Occasionally, the droid bumps his head against Cal, making a small, plaintive sound. She and Greez are before Cal, Greez standing and her crouched. Kata sits a little further back and to Cal’s left, hugging her legs to her Bode stands behind Cal, Dagan’s unlit saber still gripped in his right hand, his expression stony and his presence a blank as he stares at Cal’s red hair, saying nothing. Cal squirms and snarls and gnashes his teeth, the green light in his eyes sickly, his face contorted with fury. The Koboh matter solidified around his form, however, holds steadfast, no matter how much he fights to break from it. It is not the crystalline dark purple that BD-1 usually expels, but a bright, electric violet, pulsing with power. It winds around and around Cal’s arms and torso like a rope, holding his clenching hands tight against his thighs where they have left him kneeling.

Cal Kestis Week: Monday - “THAT DOESN’T LOOK GOOD” + A RIGGED GAME + BOGLING
Tumblr media
They climb out of Pyloon’s Saloon in a group, Kata hefted up in Bode’s arms. He does not want to bring his daughter, that much is clear, but he must have decided that leaving her behind would be worse, since he did not attempt to argue. His arms wrap protectively around her, keeping her tucked to his chest, but the girl is curious, her head swiveling as she looks at everything she can sight. “Is that normal?” She asks softly, pointing towards the stable. It is empty and damaged. The fence circling the plot has been wrecked in several places. In some, blood and feathers dot the broken wood. The inner stalls are smashed, the metal dented by large, powerful legs until the nekkos within managed to break out and run free. The earth has been churned, and seems to be moving.

Cal Kestis Week: Saturday - FREE DAY!
Tumblr media
Image taken by AnimatedJen
Nightsister magick is one that many would consider dark; the power to resurrect the dead, the ability to distort the perception of creatures sentient and otherwise, to warp their connection with the natural world, to unmake and remake the self and others, to move them without moving them. Merrin has never considered it such, has never understood this Jedi obsession with declaring a power to be anything but useful. Mastery of one’s emotion is a skill of great use, of course, but it is not the power itself that is dark or light- only the way in which it is used.

Cal Kestis Week: Tuesday - HOPE IS A SKILL + DROID
Tumblr media
Image taken by FlamMabel
Merrin has quickly grown tired of returning from unwilling unconsciousness. Her body thrums with pain. Her throat burns raw and hot; it feels wet when she swallows but her voice is dry and cracked when she tries to speak. She squints in confusion at the dim lighting around her, the circular room. She recognizes it after a moment, Cal’s quarters beneath Pyloon’s. The refresher is running, and there’s some clanging from the corner. Slowly, she sits up and swings her feet to the ground, flinching as her vision momentarily swims. She swallows down bile and frustration, pressing her cool hand against her forehead. “Oh Merrin, you’re awake. Good timing.” Greez putters down the stairs with a tray of food. The moment Merrin smells it she feels immediately ravenous, her stomach cramping, and she’s reaching for it before Greez even makes it down the stairs. “Whoa, easy,” he tells her when she spears her fork into the medley of vegetables, grains and thin slices of meat. “Don’t choke on it.” She can tell that he is pleased from his voice, from the way he wriggles his shoulders a little.

Cal Kestis Week: Wednesday - SCARS + “WE SHOULDN’T BE DOING THIS” + BAD ENDING
Tumblr media
Image taken by FlamMabel
When the first shouts rise from the Reach, Greez rushes out to see what has happened. His gasp is as a spear through Merrin’s chest, and she struggles to her feet. Again, her knees try to give in, but she slams her uninjured hand on the table and grits her teeth, keeping herself standing forcibly. Bode rises as well, his dark eyes level on her. She snarls when he steps forward, and his face hardens. “I doubt we have time for this,” he tells her sternly. She bares her teeth. “Do not dare tell me what must be done.”

Cal Kestis Week: Friday - ECHO + LAUGH + A DIFFERENT CHOICE
Tumblr media
Image taken by AnimatedJen
The atmosphere feels eerie as Merrin and Kata reach the Mantis, hand in hand. The sky crackles, as if they are contained inside a violet energy net; not the occasional strike of lightning they had seen when they had first flown through the Abyss, but a non-stop transference of powerful energy. It is louder than even the howl of sandstorms on Jedha, and it tingles against Merrin’s skin in a way that feels distinctly unfriendly. Greez rushes to meet them, his mouth open and slanted; he tries to speak but his efforts are lackluster and the words don’t quite leave him as they should, stuttering gasps. “Cal?” He pushes out at last, “where’s Cal?”

Cal Kestis Week: Thursday - FALL + THE SUN COMES UP AGAIN + THE FORCE
Tumblr media
Image taken by AnimatedJen
Merrin wakes again to the sharp sound of the Mantis’s ramp clattering against the landing pad perched behind Pyloon’s Saloon. The planet’s familiar air blows in, metal dust and the tang of animal compost that wafts out from the stables. The planet is nothing like Dathomir, nor Tanalorr; instead it is like most planets, a slumbering giant with little power of its own. Despite its name, Merrin has always known that Koboh Matter does not originate here; at least, not from the planet itself. Priorite is nothing like the poisonous particles that haunt some of the planet’s surface, that crystallize to massive proportions inside the Abyss. Cal emerges from the cockpit and moves directly outside, his steps quick and sharp. She watches him through her lashes, tilted sideways on the couch as she is, the table cutting the view of him into two halves. He stretches his arms high above him, breathing in deeply and releasing a pleased sigh. “Finally!” Cal strips his jacket off, tosses it on the floor as he saunters further into the yellow sunlight. “Out of the Abyss!”
